White Behavior In Avatar
Another film that has white savior elements to it is Avatar, (2009) which is an epic science fiction film that tackles broad social issues such as
military occupation, corporatism, imperialism, racism, ethics, and environmentalism. Avatar takes place in a fictional world called Pandora, a planet
rich in natural resources, the most important of which is a fictional mineral called unobtanium. The film takes places years after failed corporate
attempts to subtly persuade the local indigenous population, called the Na'vi, to relocate to a less desirable locations on the planet. Corporate greed
eventually leads to the head of the major corporate enterprise turning to the military for help in relocating the Na'vi who occupy locations rich with

Avatar: The West And The Rest
In the movie, Avatar, the human plans to invade another planet in which the Navi, the alien, lives. This excerption comes from the beginning of the
movie, and it is a part of conversation between an investor, Selfridge, and a scientist, Grace. Although the discourse of "the West and the Rest" is
conveyed through the whole movie, this conversation is specifically chosen since the scene seems to foretell the movie will reproduce and challenge
the discourse at the same time. The theme of "natives and nature" in the conversation reproduces the discourse by representing comparable appearance,
language, and environment between the human and the natives. That is, the natives are simplified as having the different appearance and living in
uncivilized environment. To illustrate, in his dialogue, Selfridge points out different outlook and language of them by saying, "If you look like them, if
you talk like... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It challenges the discourse because the theme represents humanitarianism of the West; it reproduces the discourse because it asserts superiority of the
West. As noticed in the conversation, the Navi has refused the human to enter their land. However, even without developed technology and science, the
Navi eventually won the battle against the Human because of Jake, the human. With the help from Grace, Jake became a leader and saves the Natives.
It is against the discourse that the West is forceful and merciless, asserting the humanitarian treats of the West toward the Rest. However, it also implies
the superiority of the West, reproducing the discourse. In short, that the native needed help from the West and that its development is constructed with
the help from the West indicate the maintained knowledge and power of the discourse among the audience. It could claim the maintenance of hierarchy
order in the world with emphasis on the

Analysis Of Avatar
I chose to relate the movie Avatar, that was directed by James Cameron, to Kenneth Burke's theory of identification because the movie was persuasive
enough to make it widely appealing to its audience. Taking a deeper look into this concept, I was able to find the clear distinction of persuasion to
identification which also held many other interpretations of the movie. I will further go into detail how the movie assists Burke's theory of
identification by inaccuracy, sympathy and antithesis and how it efficiently shares those throughout the movieAvatar. The movie sets out on what is
called the alien world of Pandora where the Na'vi's live. The planet's environment is extremely poisonous and the Avatars which is a hybrid of
human and Na'vi, must be able to connect human minds to allow for staying unharmed of the planet of Pandora. A paralyzed former Marine, Jake
Sully, is able to become normal with his body through a particular Avatar. While he is on the planet of Pandora, he ends up falling in love with a
Na'vi woman and while he is on the planet, he finds himself in a battle with the real world to save Pandora. James Cameron, the director of Avatar has
put himself in the scene as an actor. He is able to clearly understand his audience by doing so, which allows him to be dynamic in his approach to his
audience. As for as the identification aspect in Burke's theory, it is well developed by all of the directors, actors and of course the wide spread of
audiences. In

3 Themes Of Avatar
In the movie Avatar, James Cameron depicted 3 themes that I can see, these themes are biodiversity, sustainability, energy pyramids. Avatar has a lot of
themes but the ones i see and think are the most important and noticeable are these. This shows us how humans are greedy and selfish. All they care
about is profit and self benefit. Most humans just think about themselves but one day they will lose everything but the harm they did still affects
others. Sustainability is a big part in this movie because it shows how the environment keeps itself up the energy that flows through the whole forest
sustains Pandora. When the humans wanted to destroy the main tree of pandora, for a very expensive rock. Pandora had its main tree where under it had

Avatar Movie Analysis
Avatar is a blockbuster film from 2009 and one of my most favorite Sci–fi films of all time. The film was directed by James Cameron, who is known
for directing films like Titanic (1997), Aliens (1986), and the Terminator (1984), all of which helped shape the film industry into what it is today.
Although at the time, there was a recession and people were trying to save money, this movie became the highest grossing film in at the time. The
movie provided stunning 3D technology unlike any other movie and this was one of the reasons that made people want to go watch the film. From
visual effects to the camera angles, James Cameron directed this movie to make the audience feel like they are in the movie. Although the film looked
amazing, there were messages and themes inside the film that made it such a success. The film provoked discussions about various messages and
themes embedded inside the film, such as terrorism, Imperialism, religious connections, and connections to current world. Such messages can be
clearly seen throughout the plot of the movie.
The plot of the movie is very simple, it takes place the future, where humans are looking to other planets for resources and this is a very likely
future of the current human race because Earth is limited on resources and as we run out of resources we will have to look towards other planets for
resources. Jake Sully, the main protagonist of the film, is a former U.S. Marine who is paralyzed from waist down and is selected to

Jake's Survival In The Avatar
After experiencing the Avatar, with minimal training he is sent on his first mission on Pandora where he sees a new world of plants, habitats and
weather. He learns new thing about this planet, growing rather attached to the energy it possesses. While exploring the group is stopped by an animal
who chases Jake off a waterfall, getting lost in the large forest landscape of Pandora. The themes of Adventure acts as a sub–genre in this film as it
consists of exploration as Jake learns new thing about the planet and the avatar. There is a continuous idea of entering the unknown in the movie.
Grace continues looking for Jake but it gets dark and they have to wait for him to come back. Jake is saved by a female Avatar after being chased
by the viper wolves. This is when we meet the mentor, Neytiri, a female Na'Vi warrior who later explains that killing animals is wrong and that she
doesn't understand what type of Na'Vi he is. The use of alien language, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This part of the film show us Jakes realization and more moral conflict as he is pressured by the Col. To finish the mission and not to get side tracked.
He is upset by the news that his mission will get terminated if he doesn't tell the Na'Vi to relocate. Still unaware of the spiritual connection the
inhabitants have to the area. The film also explores the sub–genre of Dystopian Fiction. This sub–genre explores the corruption and propaganda that
engulfs the narrative. Such as the manipulation of Jake and his disability, almost leaving him with no voice also subjecting his character into a
sub–altern state because without the military and its advancements he wouldn't have been able to walk. The military acts as the antagonist to Jake and
the Avatars. The movie explores the symbolic code of religion and belief. The avatars are connected to their world through nature and prayer. Belief
gives them strength and unites them with their ancestral

Character Disability In Avatar
As for gender, Avatar does make sure to be inclusive of both men and women in the human and alien society. Kyle Uber from Vanderbilt University
describes the strong female characters as a "refreshing occurrence" and a "positive contribution" to the science fiction genre (Uber 1). Uber talks
about how Grace Augustine is the renowned lead researcher of the Na'vi and how her position of power is established as assertive and unyielding (for
the most part). Augustine stands up for her program in her confrontation of Parker when Jake is introduced as the new driver, challenging themale
authority and demonstrating that she does not passively accept everything that Parker says. Augustine also defiantly takes her team into the Hallelujah
mountains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jake appears to be the only disabled character in the entire movie, and this is a core part of his character. It is evident from the beginning that
Pandora is a hostile environment with many hazards and dangers, making it seem unfit for any disabled person to occupy. However, Jake states that
"he was sick of doctors telling [him] what [he] couldn't do" and that he "could pass any test a man [could] pass". His resilience to his disability and to
its ability to hinder him makes him more inspiring as the protagonist and hero. As Lennard J. Davis states in our week 3 article, "In an ableist culture
disability can't just be–it has to mean something. It has to signify. In this sense, disability is allegorical" (Davis 37). Thehuman environment that Jake is
placed into is clearly one of ableism, which makes it significant when he rebels against the expectations set before him. The military men, upon first
seeing Jake, sneer and call him derogatory terms like "meals on wheels" and "special case" before even formally meeting him. But Jake is able to
survive and even gain the trust of the Na'vi, making his disability irrelevant when it comes to getting the job done. This makes the disability an
allegory for persistence and perseverance. But on the other hand, we see that as Jake begins to grow more and more attached to his avatar life rather
than his human life, he begins to distance himself from reality and his disability, as with his race. The avatar gives him his old life back and more–he
gets the use of his legs and he seems to enjoy the thrills of his avatar life more than his present one. This is a little problematic because we don't see
any signs of disability within the Na'vi society. From what is shown in the film, many of the Na'vi are warriors and being disabled would hinder their
ability to fight and to serve their community, therefore demonstrating

Diction In Avatar
In James Cameron's films they all found a major success with the science diction action theme. Avatar is a perfect example of how the worlds blend
perfectly for an acceptable amount of time. The real world, according to the Na'vi people of Pandora is visualized as a peaceful setting that can be
compared to a church. In Avatar, there is a tree that symbolizes their perfect equilibrium. "Who's Eywa? Only their deity! Their goddess, made up of
all living things. Everything they know! You'd know this if you had any training whatsoever."(Norm, Avatar) This quote was used to explain to Jake
how the people of Pandora function throughout their everyday life. The story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paraplegic Marine, is about how a
human enters a whole new world. There they have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason as to why Avatar can be depicted as the human world is because of the vivid displays that the film provided. The viewer of the
film can imagine being so engulfed by the imagery. When the scenes of Pandora appear with the Hometree, or the Tree of Soul, you feel like you
can smell the trees. This type of imagery is in relation to the real world. The director succeeded with the fact that we felt like we were actually in
the movie. "Everything is backwards now, like out there is the true world, and here is the dream" (Sam Worthington, Avatar). Jake Sully, the
protagonist of Avatar, agreed to replace his brother in the Avatar program. The humans were able to navigate throughout the planet of Pandora. Jake
Sully's transformation was a great experience for him, and one of the best scenes in the movie. "When I was lying in the V.A. hospital with a big
hole blown through the middle of my life, I started having these dreams of flying. I was free. But sooner or later, you always have to wake up"
(Avatar. Film). This scene shows how, after many years or being in a wheelchair, Jake gets to use his

Examples Of Imperialism In Avatar
In the year 2009, James Cameron wrote and directed one of the most remarkable films I have ever seen 'Avatar'. This science–fiction saga has a story
line that is engaging and captivating for its audience. Avatar took place on a moon called Pandora. Humans discovered very valuable natural
resources on Pandora and did whatever it took to obtain what they needed from Pandora. The people of Pandora are Na'vi's, a 10 foot tall,
blue–skinned humanoid alien group that lived in the rainforest or Pandora. The Humans found a way to interact with the Na'vi's by artificial yet
organic avatars that were controlled with a human mind and conscience. Jake Sully, a paraplegic marine who was given the task to manipulate the
Na'vi's into leaving their home. Sully entered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We try to give them medicine and education road! But no, they like mud. I wouldn't care except their damn village is sitting right over the riches
unobtanium deposit for a hundred klicks of any direction. Which sucks, for them, because they need to relocate". This cruel words shows imperialism.
Avatar's imperialism in the movie and the world's history of imperialism have many similarities. People with more military or power tend to destroy
people who have less power for self–gain. Imperialism is the advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation by gaining indirect control
over the economic life. There are many times in history were natives of a country have been imperialized by a foreign country for their land
resources, this happened in the Avatar movie. Africa was imperialized by the Great Britain to conquer new lands for Brits to settle like Australia, New
Zealand, Canada and the American colonies. They imperialized them to get the wealth of their lands. Diamonds and gold in South Africa and ivory
from Kenya. To open up trade routes, to get goods etc. This was why they were imperialized. The humans in the Avatar wanted to obtainunobtainium
which lied beneath the home tree to save from energy

Imperialism In Avatar Analysis
Imperialism: the process of a strong country taking control of what they believe to be an inferior territory or region. The similarities between the
film, Avatar, and real life imperialism is very apparent, and James Cameron, director, conveys the ideas of imperialism through this. In Avatar,
humans invade the planet, Pandora, to study the wildlife, and plants for scientific research. However, this made no money for business moguls like
Parker Selfridge. Thus, he came to collect a resource called unobtanium which is needed on earth. Furthermore, Jake Sully, a paralyzed, former
military personnel, travels to pandora in place of his twin brother, Tommy, who recently was murdered. Originally, Sully was supposed to study the
Na'vi, natives, of Pandora and learn their weaknesses as well as their lifestyle through a process called "linking." Although that was his main goal,
Sully fell in love with being a Na'vi after meeting Neytiri, the Na'vi princess, and assimilating to the culture of Pandora's natives. Therefore, in the film,
Avatar, James Cameron portrayed assimilation, and racism similar to the European imperialism, however did a somewhat accurate job of showing
geopolitics as it occurred in Europe's colonies.
On the planet, Pandora, resources were stripped from the natives by the aliens invading their home and lifestyle, exactly how the Belgians did in
Congo. In Avatar, the sky people went to Pandora for many reasons. Scientists came to study the land and learn from the

Avatar Effect
What I call the Avatar effect plays a pervasive (if unconscious) role on the road. Basically, it comes down to moral hazard: people are more likely to
take risks when they feel they are shielded from the consequences of their actions. Especially when they feel detached from danger via avatars or
proxies.
Like Jake Sully (the crippled main character of Avatar), who uses a super expensive Na'vi human hybrid, to transport himself to a place where he can
make a fortune (for someone else, and a (relative) pittance for himself); people conduct themselves in a manner that corresponds to their perceived risk
/reward ratio.
Jake was quite emboldened by the fact that he himself was not at risk of dying when he was going about Pandora in his Na'vi Avatar. There was
only a small sense of fiscal preservation in his actions. Obviously, drivers are not as reckless as Jake, for whom death was taken ... Show more content

Drivers subconsciously feel almost anonymous and essentially invincible once inside their cars. The rolling metal machines take all the punishment,
while protecting all passengers inside.
That is why people do not mind cutting strangers off in a manner that makes them have to slam on their brakes to avoid collision. The way selfish
people see it, the worst possible outcome of that is a fender bender that gives them a palpable excuse for being late to work.
They (like Jake) are also held aback by the fear of losing such an expensive product. Granted, much of that fear is mitigated by insurance companies
(straight out of pandora's box) who are now brazenly siphoning resources from people (though not the Na'vi's unobtainium (but only because they are
fictional)).
People drive as reckless as they do because they feel safe in their automotive avatars. They have seen countless crash test dummies walk away from
brutal collisions of all kinds, with impacts emanating from every

The Paradox Of Avatar
Movies create realities. As life tells the stories of each, each moulds the reality which he/she believes in. Movies are like these stories of life, but
recorded within the bandwidth of camera to capture a perspective. Also, movies are applied to reality, are the reflection of the world, or are the
doorsteps of escaping reality – fantasy. As of whatJames Cameron's Avatar, this movie reflected the three statements above this sentence. Avatar is a
critical acclaimed hit when it released, spanning dollars after dollars of sales and revenue. The question remains, what is the story of this movie? As
for these statements about Avatar, this blog would try to answer some key aspects of the film through the set questions given by lecturer– though not
all questions will be answered. The first question that will be answered is, where in the film do you see critiques evident of the current state of the
world in the characters, dialogue and content of the film? As clear water reflects the objects around the world clearer than a mirror, the movie reflects

throughout the film? The Na'vi people saw the importance of each species as the balance nature. Relatively to humans, as exemplified in the film and,
at such case, the real world, people tend to abuse nature as it is nothing but a toy to play with. As showed and explained, the humans plan to excavate

Examples Of Greed In Avatar
Avatar tells a story about how the human race will go through great lengths to satisfy their constant need for money and power. The film's theme of
greed is very fitting to today's world as it relates to the majority of us humans' nature of always wanting to gain things for ourselves without observing
what the consequences will be for others and their future. This theme is shown in the film by how the humans, who've invaded the fictional planet
Pandora, are willing to sabotage an entire village just so they can gain money. A war occurs between the humans and the Na'vi, the indigenous natives
of Pandora, because their village lies upon a large expanse of Unobtanium, a substance worth $20 million dollars per kilo. The humans don't care what

Jake, the film's protagonist, begins as a "jar head marine" oblivious to his commanders plan to eradicate the Na–vi's village. Though as the films
storyline progresses, Jakes softer side of his personality is introduced. He becomes accepted into the Na'vi and is taught their way of life. We learn
that the Na'vi are very much connected with their Mother "Eywa", and always treat every organism with respect, understanding all consequences. Jake
soon realises that the Na'vi are actually very peaceful, the opposite of what he had been told, "Indigenous population of humanoids here called the
Na'vi. They're very fond of arrows dipped in a neurotoxin which can stop you're heart in one minute. We operate– we live – at a constant threat.". Jake
resists the human's temptation of greed and becomes one of the Na'vi, helping them and the conservation of their environment at all costs. This is one
of the reasons I admire Jake as a character as when he is first introduced in the film he portrays a character that only cares about fighting and earning
money, but as the story progresses the audience sees that spending time with the Na'vi has caused Jake to become a better person. This is because they
have influenced his thoughts and opinions, teaching him respect and to care for every organism as though it was

Examples Of Imperialism In Avatar
In the movie Avatar, James Cameron, the director, conveys the message that imperialism can cause harm to the environment and lead to conflict. In the
movie, human beings have come from Earth to Pandora to gather unobtainium and to study the native people. Unobtainium is a substance that can be
used for powering things and sells for a large amount of money. It is discovered that a large deposit of the substance sits beneath a tree which is the
home of The People. This discovery causes conflicts between the humans and the indigenous people. Avatar contains the message, to which I agree,
that imperialism can cause conflicts and harm to the environment and it is shown through the struggles between the humans, those practicing

The practicing of imperialism on Pandora led to conflict between the humans and the Na'vi . Due to the humans' want of the Na'vi's land for
resources, they fought against one another in a battle that resulted in a loss for the humans. A similar result of imperialism can be seen in the
Crimean War, in which Russians fought the Ottomans in the hopes to gain land on the Black Sea and get access to the Mediterranean Sea and
resulted in a loss for Russia. It can also be seen in The Great Game, which sparked a conflict between England and Russia over Afghanistan and India
for their resources. Another effect of imperialism on Pandora was harm to the environment, seen in the cutting down of the Hometree and the burning
of the forest surrounding it. This was done by the invading humans to drive out the Na'vi in order to collect the unobtainium beneath the tree. The
environment was also harmed in the European practice of imperialism in Africa. As a result of imperialism in Africa, cash cropping for products such
as peanuts, palm oil, cocoa, and rubber was practiced. This caused famine and starvation in the country due to a lack of food

Avatar, By James Cameron
Avatar is one of those profound movies with a deep meaning that strikes different emotions of the audience, which they might have not known they
had. It hit most of the questionable topics that are mostly unspeakable now. Avatar is a spectacular movie written and directed by James Cameron.
The movie is set in a breathtaking alien world called Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi race. At first, they are viewed as a primitive wild,
race but in reality they are more highly evolved than the audience would expect. Because of the rich properties that the land Pandora holds, it
attracted the Resources Development Admiration (RDA) Company. They at first were viewed purely as a research company but that was not their
only intention. Because of the toxic air in Pandora, the RDA Corporation developed a hybrid mixture of humans and the Na'vi to be able to live and
move around Pandora. This hybrid form is known as Avatar. As one of the Avatars falls in love with a Na'vi he obligates himself to help save her world.
James Cameron uses this movie to show the inhumane activities from our history, which suggests the story may be a metaphor: Avatar, as a metaphor,
has a compelling message which reinforces a strong theme of imperialism; the message suggests a dangerous precedence of invasion, exploitation, and
greed.
Invasion is a central element which is shown early in the story, and signifies the beginning of the tension–filled, rising action. Invasion is also a strong

Introduction Of The Movie Avatar
Introduction:
The film Avatar (italics on titles– plus remove the bold writing on your paragraphs and remove all the planning above when you submit the final)
directed by James Cameron is the story of Jake Sully; the man who is asked to take the place of his twin brothers place at Pandora for a scientific
experiment. At the start he was very hesitant toward taking his brothers (apostrophe) place, there were times when he felt like not continuing with the
program. Along the way he faced a series on tests, allies and enemies. The end result is what he was starting to want near the end of the movie.(the
more formal term is film)
Body:
When he was first called to the mission he had moments of refusal because it was a scientific task and he was in the marine prior to this, therefore
he was used to going in 'all guns blazing' rather than trying to figure it out scientifically and appreciating who they are and what their land means to
them. Other people were not accepting of him, due to his paralysis, causing him to be in a wheelchair. There is evidence of this when someone from
the army side says to their friend that he is 'meals on wheels'.
Later in the movie, once Jake had figured out that the avatars are nice and that the army shouldn't (avoid contraction – should not) be destroying their
land, he starts to refuse orders from Kernell (the army leader). Kernell was demanding that he told him important things (be precise – what are these
important thing exactly?) about the avatars so it would be easier to destroy them, but jake could keep changing from an avatar to a human, so when he
came back to the human life he would usually start to fill Kernell in on what happened but near the end he stopped telling him so he could save the
avatars. He realised that the avatars were actually really nice and approving of him after a while.
Where can you include the how? In other words, the cinematic technique, for instance 'full shots capture Jake interacting with The colonel' or 'a

Dyadic and Mass Communication: Relational Messages in Avatar
Communication beliefs and practices evolve as relationships develop. In the film, Avatar, produced and directed by Cameron (2009), humans have
already consumed the earth's resources, creating an energy crisis in 2154. As a result, the Resources Development Administration (RDA for short)
seeks to mine a valuable mineral, unobtanium, in Pandora, a densely forested planet whose atmosphere is poisonous to humans, and is inhabited by the
blue–skinned, sapient humanoids, Na'vi, who worship the mother goddess, Eywa, and live in harmony with nature. Jake Sully, a paraplegic Marin,
accepts the offer of replacing his identical brother, as one of the operators of Dr. Grace Augustine, head of theAvatar Program. Colonel Miles Quaritch,
head of the RDA's security force, promises Jake that if he can walk again if he can collect intelligence information about the Na'vi and the giant tree,
Hometree, which stands on the richest deposit of unobtanium. However, as Jake interacts with the Na'vi, he acculturates and falls in love with

Domination of Poor Lives The movie called Avatar, directed by James Cameron, is about a retired Marine soldier, Jake Sully, who goes on a long
journey to the outer space to explore the planet of "Pandora". The film represents acts of imperialism and how it's the superior situation. James
Cameron accurately paints the picture of European imperialism in the film Avatar by portraying the concept that living beings have homes and great
opportunities to existing, and those who claim their ways for their own purposes shall be decimated. Firstly, assimilation plays its part when people
need to gain information. For instance, in Avatar, the mining supervisor says: "Look. You're supposed to be winning the hearts and minds of the
natives. Isn't that the whole point of your little puppet show? If you walk like them, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in Avatar, the colonel stated his mind about the natives:"Out there beyond that fence every living thing that crawls, flies, or squats in the
mud want to kill you and eat your eyes for jujubes. We have an indigenous population of humanoids called the Na'vi." (Miles Quaritch). Another
example would be Kipling's White Man's Burden: "Take up the White Man's burden––Send forth the best ye breed––Go bind your sons to exile, To
serve your captives' need; to wait in heavy harness, On fluttered folk and wild––Your new–caught, sullen peoples, Half–devil and half–child." (Rudyard
Kipling's White Man's Burden, lines 1–8). This is significant since James Cameron restates the judgment of candidates about the natives. The
assumption destroys the trustworthy relationship between the explorers and the natives due to the disliking of their lifestyle. Therefore, in our history
of European exploration, the white people didn't care about the natives' state of intellect, so the establishers doubted they had more power than anybody
else. Accordingly, they prefer killing them more often than rather helping

Avatars In Second Life
The Second Life gaming environment is casual and allows for people to interact with each other without having to physically be near each other. This
type of environment allows for the possibility of meeting others and interacting with others and would be a possible choice for interacting with other
co–workers in an office party session online. Although there are benefits to interacting with co–workers on Second Life, there are some caveats that
exist as well. Specifically, the avatars in Second Life both support and fail the necessary feelings of awareness and presence of others, expressing
affects or emotions, and communication with others. Virtual reality and actual reality can not ever be completely equivalent to each other because there
are limitations of expressing emotion, awareness of the environment and others, and conversing with others. The Second Life avatars both supports and
fails the expression of conveying verbal and nonverbal communication between people. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dancing to express emotions. However, in Second Life, the avatars do not express emotion as much as humans in real life can express and each action
must be manually chosen rather than naturally expressing their emotionally–led actions. Also, in real life, one can hear others talking and notice the
facial expressions of others and the unique actions of people. The user can receive a wide array of different emotional impressions from the different
kinds of avatar appearances that other uses select for their avatar. Some avatars may give off a dreary aura, while others may appear much more
pleasant and happy and because of the non–human possibilities, this does make the avatars elicit more visceral responses compared to the physical

Avatar: A Hero's Journey
Avatar Archetypes
"I guess that's the thing about a hero's journey. You might not start out as a hero, and you might not even come back that way. But you change, which
is the same as everything changing. The journey changes you, whether or not you know it, and whether or not you want it to," (Kami Garcia). The movie
Avatar, released in 2009 and directed by James Cameron, is an example of a main plot and a subplot carried by the hero's journey and has many
examples of other archetypes. Avatar is about Jake Sully, an ex
–marine, who takes over his dead brother's place on a scientific mission to a planet
called Pandora. Their goal is to collect a natural resource, Unobtanium, and bring it back to Earth. A clan of Na'vi', human–like creatures, called the
Omaticaya, live in a tree right on top of the main source of the Unobtanium. Jake Sully's task is to enter an "avatar" body disguised as a Na'vi' and
learn as much as he can about their kind and what the humans have to do to relocate their clan. Eventually, the Omaticaya assimilate Jake into their
clan and teach him their ways, not knowing that he is one of the "sky people", or humans. As the plot of Avatar moves on, Jake begins to change his
opinions on the Navi, the idea of nature, and which side he should fight for with help of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

there will be afterlife with Eywa and the animal's spirit will become part of her. The death and rebirth archetype is when the cycle of nature and life
are parallel. This is very clear in the movie, because all of life on Pandora has a "network" of connections with nature and

Avatar In 2009 Avatar was released with a highly positive review. Watching this movie around eight times in the first year it was out I concluded
that the deeper meaning of the story could be taken two different ways. In a sense it could be depicting how the European's came and took the
Indian's land, just how the Na'vi seemed to be Native American in traditions and beliefs. The second way of viewing it could be how the humans are
killing the planet and its native population just so they can get recourses and make a profit. This could be a way of saying how mankind is killing the
planet. The movie could mean both of these or something completely different. I am not the best at getting meanings behind works of art or movies, I...

The scenery during this part of the movie shows different tribes around the planet, each with their own beliefs and culture. Every village looked
different from the last and even though it's a short scene it adds more to the world and shows you just how vast and wild the world really is.
They each had a leader and distinct face paint and war paint that they prepared for this fight. Jake would singlehandedly unite every tribe to protect the
Na'vi's way of life.
The seconds is near the end of the movie when you see how everything plays out and all the loss of life on both sides. After hearing the stories from
both Na'vi and human you can't decide who you should root for in the fight. Humans because you are a human of the Na'vi because they are also, the
victims in the movie. It could also be because they give such a rich background to the
Na'vi that you can't help but to love their world and way of life. What I like about Avatar is just how beautiful it is to watch. The director and whoever
oversaw the CGI did an amazing job depicting the world. They made the world vivid with breathtaking views and amazing new animals and
vegetation, each one was unique and vivid with how they seemed to glow in the dark. The second thing I love about this film is how they implemented
enough action to satisfy me, but it wasn't the whole movie. It had story and plot and action when needed. The third thing I loved about

Dances With Wolves And Avatar
"Dances with Wolves and Avatar: Similar but Different"
Dances with Wolves and Avatar are thought to be very different, but they are actually more similar than viewers may realize. First off, these are two
must see films! The viewer walks away with much more than just having seen a movie. Both of these movies encourage cultural understanding,
motivate, and teach individuality.
Dances with Wolves andAvatar are alike in plot and cultural significance. These two films are alike in plot because in both films, two men, John
Dunbar and Jake Sully, willingly put themselves into a completely new culture and lifestyle. They learn to adapt to the differences and learn a new
way of life in order to survive. For example, in the movies Dances with Wolves and Avatar, John Dunbar and Jake Sully had to learn each tribe's way
of life, such as their language, hunting, and self–defense. Eventually, the two men are recognized as part of a tribe, for John the Sioux Indian Tribe and
for Jake the Na'vi Tribe.
These two films are alike in cultural significance because they both show the viewer not to believe all that is said about individuals, races, and
cultures. In the two films, both tribes were first looked at as evil enemies, but once the two men each took the time to get to know the individuals and
the tribes as a whole, they realized that it was all just a lie. The Sioux and Na'vi were actually nice people who just felt threatened by the outsiders.

Biocultural Analysis: Avatar (2009)
Introduction
According to the United Nations, the world population was estimated to have reached 7.6 billion as of October, 2017 and it will continue to increase
to 11.2 billion by the year 2100. The rapid increase in population requires more food, more lands and other demands. Because of the higher demands,
some companies have been exploiting natural resources to serve people's needs and create profits as well. With the current population pressure and
overexploitation of natural resources, a question has been raised: "What if natural resources run out?". In 2009, Avatar, a science fiction film directed by
James Cameron, which tells us a story about an exploration of a group of people on Pandora to look for new natural resources; because of their greed,
the indigenous people and nature on Pandora suffered many casualties, damages.

Rhetorical Analysis– Avatar (Cultural Assimilation)
In James Cameron's critically acclaimed Avatar, there are many issues/disputes that are represented, but there is only one that especially stands out;
cultural assimilation. Cameron's purpose for this is to better represent and portray the possibility of assimilation to today's modern audience. He adopts
a visually stimulating tone to better impact and leave his viewers with a lasting impression of his portrayal, that will better convey the feelings of
transgression in the supremacist audience he is trying to reach. This is known by the type of subject he is tackling and by showing a similar situation,
unrelated to the 'textbook cover' of Native assimilation, but leaves the same impact. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the way it is visually astounding is only a bonus, it is perfectly executed and displayed. I feel as if this is a masterpiece because of the way it
tackles discrimination, not only from the 'white side' view but from the how the Native populace feels toward the invaders. It exposes the tender side
of two worlds colliding, such as trying to make peace and attempting to learn both sides of culture. The contrast between the two worlds is shown by
Jake Sully constantly moving between both worlds, the audience is eventually more exposed to the Na'vi side just as Jake Sully is. He says "It feels
like out there is the real world, and in here is the dream.." James Cameron does beautifully in showing a 'clichГ©' event in a new

fantasy rests on the assumption that "non–whites need the White Messiah to lead their crusades". It lays on the supposition that lack of education is
the way to dignity. According to him it makes a kind of two–edged cultural imperialism. Native people can either have their history formed by cruel
imperialists or generous ones, but in both cases, they are going to be "supporting actors in our journey to self–admiration." (Davidson: 2010)
The callous and brutal treatment with the Na'vi has been interpreted as an allegory for the predicament of American Indians. Brooks said that Avatar

Avatars As Depicted In The Film Avatar
On the abundant alien world of Pandora live the Na'vi, beings who seem prehistoric but are highly developed. The planet's environment is poisonous,
human/Na'vi hybrids, also known as Avatars, must bond to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully, a paralyzed former
Marine, becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na'vi woman. As the two of them bond, he is drawn into a battle for
the survival of her world.

The film, Avatar, depicts humans colonizing Pandora, a lavish livable moon in the Alpha Centauri star framework, so as to mine the mineral

romanticism being displayed.
According to Lundberg(2015), ethnocentrism is the belief of one's culture is prevalent than the other. In Avatar, the head administrator of RDA, Parker

Romanticism is where traditional people being seen as presenting a better past when humans were at one with nature (Lundberg, 2015). One of the

at the end of his hair braid and the horse's neural queue found at the end of the horse's antenna. Once both neural queue touches, the optic–fiber like

Myths are supernatural or religious tales with cultural and historical backgrounds, often containing moral lessons that are valued by the culture they
originated from. The movie Avatar is a modern myth, its popularity stemming from the inspiration it draws from familiar and widespread themes found
in classical myths. Avatar reuses and refreshes these themes for current audiences. Ancient stories such as those of Icarus, Prometheus, Gilgamesh, and
Hercules, as well as contemporary issues, represent many of the same themes that are revealed in Avatar.
Avatar is the story of Jake Sully, a paraplegic marine that is sent to the world Pandora to take the place of his dead–brother's job as a Na'vi avatar pilot.

In the ancient Greek story of Icarus, Daedalus constructs a pair of wings made out of wax and feathers for himself and his son Icarus to escape the
Labyrinth in Crete. In their attempt to overcome their human limitations, Icarus fails to obey his father's only rule: do not fly too close to the sun. He
reaches too far and the wax on his wings melts, causing him to plummet to his death. This is often thought to illustrate the consequences humans must
face when overreaching and trying too hard to do what they are not meant to do. Icarus's failure to listen to common sense is synonymous with the
failure of the humans to listen to Jake Sully in Avatar. The humans cause the "death" of any relationship with the Na'vi due to their own negligence.
Another myth of a cautionary tale concerns Prometheus, a Titan, who chose to go against the gods by stealing the secret of fire in order to help
humans build society and live as gods. Yet in the end, the humans suffer as Pandora is sent to earth with a box filled with terrible things with which
to punish the mortals who dared to take one of the things that separated gods from humans: fire. The world of Pandora in Avatar is like the Pandora
of myth. The humans had to figuratively and literally dig deep into the world of Pandora to uncover the good and bad, just as Pandora had to open a
box to unleash hope and evil. Jake himself metaphorically opens Pandora's Box by accepting the offer to be the

Argumentative Essay On Avatars
During our class discussion, I found the topic regarding avatars and what they say about us the most intriguing. At a young age, I was an animations
and video game enthusiast; online avatars are nothing new to me and corresponds to one of my current hobby: cosplay. With cosplay, a combination
of the words "costume" and "play," I pick certain characters from video games or animations to essentially dress up as, and proceed to hand make the
costumes from scratch. It is not simply the putting on the costume that makes this experience valuable, it's the physical embodiment of the character
that allows you to experience the two dimensional world unknown to reality. This process of becoming a specific character nails down every detail

In the particular genre of videogames, Waggoner agrees to Marvin Minsky's idea that people's "differentiation between artificial and real or between

Religious Allusions In Avatar
James Cameron's 2009 film, Avatar is a must–watch. The film taps into many aspects of human life, especially spirituality. Cameron has produced the
film with many allusions to biblical times. The planet of Pandora was portrayed as a very spiritual ground. It is that the 'monsters' of the earth are far
more connected to a supreme being than humans, who are the actual "monsters", ought to be to our Savior. In Avatar, the militarists, led by Quaritch,
are determined to retrieve a very useful mineral from the planet of Pandora because the earth has already been eroded. They are trying by all means
possible to destroy the planet, but unknowingly cause destruction upon themselves. The militarists "open" a world that would cause them harm.
Meanwhile, Cameron unveils another spiritual aspect where he included the Na'Vi's relationship with Eywa, a spirit that is a part of the "Tree of
Souls". The Na'Vi's turn to Eywa for everything and their faith is grounded in her. This was demonstrated when these unusual creatures realized that
their land was in trouble. An army of them is pictured praising and pleading to Eywa to help them. The Na'Vi's have a special relationship with their
"mother" and they would stop at nothing to protect her, as humankind ought to be with their environment and God. Cameron uses this spiritual aspect
of the film as a warning tale, which is a traditional story with a moral message warning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In particular the mass corporation known as BnL contributed most in polluting earth and failed to clean it up. They tried to deploy robots to clean up

after humans polluted it after many centuries. On earth there is garbage piled up as high as skyscrapers because of the nonchalant attitude that humans

our planet only bad things are going to happen. The film also shows that humans somewhat pay for their mistakes by living a obese unhealthy life in

White Behavior In Avatar

  • 1. White Behavior In Avatar Another film that has white savior elements to it is Avatar, (2009) which is an epic science fiction film that tackles broad social issues such as military occupation, corporatism, imperialism, racism, ethics, and environmentalism. Avatar takes place in a fictional world called Pandora, a planet rich in natural resources, the most important of which is a fictional mineral called unobtanium. The film takes places years after failed corporate attempts to subtly persuade the local indigenous population, called the Na'vi, to relocate to a less desirable locations on the planet. Corporate greed eventually leads to the head of the major corporate enterprise turning to the military for help in relocating the Na'vi who occupy locations rich with desirable ... • 2. Avatar: The West And The Rest In the movie, Avatar, the human plans to invade another planet in which the Navi, the alien, lives. This excerption comes from the beginning of the movie, and it is a part of conversation between an investor, Selfridge, and a scientist, Grace. Although the discourse of "the West and the Rest" is conveyed through the whole movie, this conversation is specifically chosen since the scene seems to foretell the movie will reproduce and challenge the discourse at the same time. The theme of "natives and nature" in the conversation reproduces the discourse by representing comparable appearance, language, and environment between the human and the natives. That is, the natives are simplified as having the different appearance and living in uncivilized environment. To illustrate, in his dialogue, Selfridge points out different outlook and language of them by saying, "If you look like them, if you talk like... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It challenges the discourse because the theme represents humanitarianism of the West; it reproduces the discourse because it asserts superiority of the West. As noticed in the conversation, the Navi has refused the human to enter their land. However, even without developed technology and science, the Navi eventually won the battle against the Human because of Jake, the human. With the help from Grace, Jake became a leader and saves the Natives. It is against the discourse that the West is forceful and merciless, asserting the humanitarian treats of the West toward the Rest. However, it also implies the superiority of the West, reproducing the discourse. In short, that the native needed help from the West and that its development is constructed with the help from the West indicate the maintained knowledge and power of the discourse among the audience. It could claim the maintenance of hierarchy order in the world with emphasis on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Avatar I chose to relate the movie Avatar, that was directed by James Cameron, to Kenneth Burke's theory of identification because the movie was persuasive enough to make it widely appealing to its audience. Taking a deeper look into this concept, I was able to find the clear distinction of persuasion to identification which also held many other interpretations of the movie. I will further go into detail how the movie assists Burke's theory of identification by inaccuracy, sympathy and antithesis and how it efficiently shares those throughout the movieAvatar. The movie sets out on what is called the alien world of Pandora where the Na'vi's live. The planet's environment is extremely poisonous and the Avatars which is a hybrid of human and Na'vi, must be able to connect human minds to allow for staying unharmed of the planet of Pandora. A paralyzed former Marine, Jake Sully, is able to become normal with his body through a particular Avatar. While he is on the planet of Pandora, he ends up falling in love with a Na'vi woman and while he is on the planet, he finds himself in a battle with the real world to save Pandora. James Cameron, the director of Avatar has put himself in the scene as an actor. He is able to clearly understand his audience by doing so, which allows him to be dynamic in his approach to his audience. As for as the identification aspect in Burke's theory, it is well developed by all of the directors, actors and of course the wide spread of audiences. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. 3 Themes Of Avatar In the movie Avatar, James Cameron depicted 3 themes that I can see, these themes are biodiversity, sustainability, energy pyramids. Avatar has a lot of themes but the ones i see and think are the most important and noticeable are these. This shows us how humans are greedy and selfish. All they care about is profit and self benefit. Most humans just think about themselves but one day they will lose everything but the harm they did still affects others. Sustainability is a big part in this movie because it shows how the environment keeps itself up the energy that flows through the whole forest sustains Pandora. When the humans wanted to destroy the main tree of pandora, for a very expensive rock. Pandora had its main tree where under it had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Avatar Movie Analysis Avatar is a blockbuster film from 2009 and one of my most favorite Sci–fi films of all time. The film was directed by James Cameron, who is known for directing films like Titanic (1997), Aliens (1986), and the Terminator (1984), all of which helped shape the film industry into what it is today. Although at the time, there was a recession and people were trying to save money, this movie became the highest grossing film in at the time. The movie provided stunning 3D technology unlike any other movie and this was one of the reasons that made people want to go watch the film. From visual effects to the camera angles, James Cameron directed this movie to make the audience feel like they are in the movie. Although the film looked amazing, there were messages and themes inside the film that made it such a success. The film provoked discussions about various messages and themes embedded inside the film, such as terrorism, Imperialism, religious connections, and connections to current world. Such messages can be clearly seen throughout the plot of the movie. The plot of the movie is very simple, it takes place the future, where humans are looking to other planets for resources and this is a very likely future of the current human race because Earth is limited on resources and as we run out of resources we will have to look towards other planets for resources. Jake Sully, the main protagonist of the film, is a former U.S. Marine who is paralyzed from waist down and is selected to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Jake's Survival In The Avatar After experiencing the Avatar, with minimal training he is sent on his first mission on Pandora where he sees a new world of plants, habitats and weather. He learns new thing about this planet, growing rather attached to the energy it possesses. While exploring the group is stopped by an animal who chases Jake off a waterfall, getting lost in the large forest landscape of Pandora. The themes of Adventure acts as a sub–genre in this film as it consists of exploration as Jake learns new thing about the planet and the avatar. There is a continuous idea of entering the unknown in the movie. Grace continues looking for Jake but it gets dark and they have to wait for him to come back. Jake is saved by a female Avatar after being chased by the viper wolves. This is when we meet the mentor, Neytiri, a female Na'Vi warrior who later explains that killing animals is wrong and that she doesn't understand what type of Na'Vi he is. Still unaware of the spiritual connection the inhabitants have to the area. The film also explores the sub–genre of Dystopian Fiction. This sub–genre explores the corruption and propaganda that engulfs the narrative. Such as the manipulation of Jake and his disability, almost leaving him with no voice also subjecting his character into a sub–altern state because without the military and its advancements he wouldn't have been able to walk. The military acts as the antagonist to Jake and the Avatars. The movie explores the symbolic code of religion and belief. The avatars are connected to their world through nature and prayer. Belief gives them strength and unites them with their ancestral ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Character Disability In Avatar As for gender, Avatar does make sure to be inclusive of both men and women in the human and alien society. Kyle Uber from Vanderbilt University describes the strong female characters as a "refreshing occurrence" and a "positive contribution" to the science fiction genre (Uber 1). Uber talks about how Grace Augustine is the renowned lead researcher of the Na'vi and how her position of power is established as assertive and unyielding (for the most part). Augustine stands up for her program in her confrontation of Parker when Jake is introduced as the new driver, challenging themale authority and demonstrating that she does not passively accept everything that Parker says. Augustine also defiantly takes her team into the Hallelujah mountains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jake appears to be the only disabled character in the entire movie, and this is a core part of his character. It is evident from the beginning that Pandora is a hostile environment with many hazards and dangers, making it seem unfit for any disabled person to occupy. However, Jake states that "he was sick of doctors telling [him] what [he] couldn't do" and that he "could pass any test a man [could] pass". His resilience to his disability and to its ability to hinder him makes him more inspiring as the protagonist and hero. As Lennard J. Davis states in our week 3 article, "In an ableist culture disability can't just be–it has to mean something. It has to signify. In this sense, disability is allegorical" (Davis 37). Thehuman environment that Jake is placed into is clearly one of ableism, which makes it significant when he rebels against the expectations set before him. The military men, upon first seeing Jake, sneer and call him derogatory terms like "meals on wheels" and "special case" before even formally meeting him. But Jake is able to survive and even gain the trust of the Na'vi, making his disability irrelevant when it comes to getting the job done. This makes the disability an allegory for persistence and perseverance. But on the other hand, we see that as Jake begins to grow more and more attached to his avatar life rather than his human life, he begins to distance himself from reality and his disability, as with his race. The avatar gives him his old life back and more–he gets the use of his legs and he seems to enjoy the thrills of his avatar life more than his present one. This is a little problematic because we don't see any signs of disability within the Na'vi society. From what is shown in the film, many of the Na'vi are warriors and being disabled would hinder their ability to fight and to serve their community, therefore demonstrating ... • 8. Diction In Avatar In James Cameron's films they all found a major success with the science diction action theme. Avatar is a perfect example of how the worlds blend perfectly for an acceptable amount of time. The real world, according to the Na'vi people of Pandora is visualized as a peaceful setting that can be compared to a church. In Avatar, there is a tree that symbolizes their perfect equilibrium. "Who's Eywa? Only their deity! Their goddess, made up of all living things. Everything they know! You'd know this if you had any training whatsoever."(Norm, Avatar) This quote was used to explain to Jake how the people of Pandora function throughout their everyday life. The story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paraplegic Marine, is about how a human enters a whole new world. There they have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason as to why Avatar can be depicted as the human world is because of the vivid displays that the film provided. The viewer of the film can imagine being so engulfed by the imagery. When the scenes of Pandora appear with the Hometree, or the Tree of Soul, you feel like you can smell the trees. This type of imagery is in relation to the real world. The director succeeded with the fact that we felt like we were actually in the movie. "Everything is backwards now, like out there is the true world, and here is the dream" (Sam Worthington, Avatar). Jake Sully, the protagonist of Avatar, agreed to replace his brother in the Avatar program. The humans were able to navigate throughout the planet of Pandora. Jake Sully's transformation was a great experience for him, and one of the best scenes in the movie. "When I was lying in the V.A. hospital with a big hole blown through the middle of my life, I started having these dreams of flying. I was free. But sooner or later, you always have to wake up" (Avatar. Film). This scene shows how, after many years or being in a wheelchair, Jake gets to use his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Examples Of Imperialism In Avatar In the year 2009, James Cameron wrote and directed one of the most remarkable films I have ever seen 'Avatar'. This science–fiction saga has a story line that is engaging and captivating for its audience. Avatar took place on a moon called Pandora. Humans discovered very valuable natural resources on Pandora and did whatever it took to obtain what they needed from Pandora. The people of Pandora are Na'vi's, a 10 foot tall, blue–skinned humanoid alien group that lived in the rainforest or Pandora. The Humans found a way to interact with the Na'vi's by artificial yet organic avatars that were controlled with a human mind and conscience. Jake Sully, a paraplegic marine who was given the task to manipulate the Na'vi's into leaving their home. Sully entered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We try to give them medicine and education road! But no, they like mud. I wouldn't care except their damn village is sitting right over the riches unobtanium deposit for a hundred klicks of any direction. Which sucks, for them, because they need to relocate". This cruel words shows imperialism. Avatar's imperialism in the movie and the world's history of imperialism have many similarities. People with more military or power tend to destroy people who have less power for self–gain. Imperialism is the advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation by gaining indirect control over the economic life. There are many times in history were natives of a country have been imperialized by a foreign country for their land resources, this happened in the Avatar movie. Africa was imperialized by the Great Britain to conquer new lands for Brits to settle like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the American colonies. They imperialized them to get the wealth of their lands. Diamonds and gold in South Africa and ivory from Kenya. To open up trade routes, to get goods etc. This was why they were imperialized. • 11. Imperialism In Avatar Analysis Imperialism: the process of a strong country taking control of what they believe to be an inferior territory or region. The similarities between the film, Avatar, and real life imperialism is very apparent, and James Cameron, director, conveys the ideas of imperialism through this. In Avatar, humans invade the planet, Pandora, to study the wildlife, and plants for scientific research. However, this made no money for business moguls like Parker Selfridge. Thus, he came to collect a resource called unobtanium which is needed on earth. Furthermore, Jake Sully, a paralyzed, former military personnel, travels to pandora in place of his twin brother, Tommy, who recently was murdered. Originally, Sully was supposed to study the Na'vi, natives, of Pandora and learn their weaknesses as well as their lifestyle through a process called "linking." Although that was his main goal, Sully fell in love with being a Na'vi after meeting Neytiri, the Na'vi princess, and assimilating to the culture of Pandora's natives. Therefore, in the film, Avatar, James Cameron portrayed assimilation, and racism similar to the European imperialism, however did a somewhat accurate job of showing geopolitics as it occurred in Europe's colonies. On the planet, Pandora, resources were stripped from the natives by the aliens invading their home and lifestyle, exactly how the Belgians did in Congo. In Avatar, the sky people went to Pandora for many reasons. Scientists came to study the land and learn from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Avatar Effect What I call the Avatar effect plays a pervasive (if unconscious) role on the road. Basically, it comes down to moral hazard: people are more likely to take risks when they feel they are shielded from the consequences of their actions. Especially when they feel detached from danger via avatars or proxies. Like Jake Sully (the crippled main character of Avatar), who uses a super expensive Na'vi human hybrid, to transport himself to a place where he can make a fortune (for someone else, and a (relative) pittance for himself); people conduct themselves in a manner that corresponds to their perceived risk /reward ratio. Jake was quite emboldened by the fact that he himself was not at risk of dying when he was going about Pandora in his Na'vi Avatar. There was only a small sense of fiscal preservation in his actions. Obviously, drivers are not as reckless as Jake, for whom death was taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drivers subconsciously feel almost anonymous and essentially invincible once inside their cars. The rolling metal machines take all the punishment, while protecting all passengers inside. That is why people do not mind cutting strangers off in a manner that makes them have to slam on their brakes to avoid collision. The way selfish people see it, the worst possible outcome of that is a fender bender that gives them a palpable excuse for being late to work. They (like Jake) are also held aback by the fear of losing such an expensive product. Granted, much of that fear is mitigated by insurance companies (straight out of pandora's box) who are now brazenly siphoning resources from people (though not the Na'vi's unobtainium (but only because they are fictional)). People drive as reckless as they do because they feel safe in their automotive avatars. • 13. The Paradox Of Avatar Movies create realities. As life tells the stories of each, each moulds the reality which he/she believes in. Movies are like these stories of life, but recorded within the bandwidth of camera to capture a perspective. Also, movies are applied to reality, are the reflection of the world, or are the doorsteps of escaping reality – fantasy. As of whatJames Cameron's Avatar, this movie reflected the three statements above this sentence. Avatar is a critical acclaimed hit when it released, spanning dollars after dollars of sales and revenue. The question remains, what is the story of this movie? As for these statements about Avatar, this blog would try to answer some key aspects of the film through the set questions given by lecturer– though not all questions will be answered. The first question that will be answered is, where in the film do you see critiques evident of the current state of the world in the characters, dialogue and content of the film? As showed and explained, the humans plan to excavate "unobtanium" for their sake of survival. Whereas excavation profits some, many suffer. • 14. Examples Of Greed In Avatar Avatar tells a story about how the human race will go through great lengths to satisfy their constant need for money and power. The film's theme of greed is very fitting to today's world as it relates to the majority of us humans' nature of always wanting to gain things for ourselves without observing what the consequences will be for others and their future. This theme is shown in the film by how the humans, who've invaded the fictional planet Pandora, are willing to sabotage an entire village just so they can gain money. A war occurs between the humans and the Na'vi, the indigenous natives of Pandora, because their village lies upon a large expanse of Unobtanium, a substance worth $20 million dollars per kilo. The humans don't care what sacrifices... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jake, the film's protagonist, begins as a "jar head marine" oblivious to his commanders plan to eradicate the Na–vi's village. Though as the films storyline progresses, Jakes softer side of his personality is introduced. He becomes accepted into the Na'vi and is taught their way of life. We learn that the Na'vi are very much connected with their Mother "Eywa", and always treat every organism with respect, understanding all consequences. Jake soon realises that the Na'vi are actually very peaceful, the opposite of what he had been told, "Indigenous population of humanoids here called the Na'vi. They're very fond of arrows dipped in a neurotoxin which can stop you're heart in one minute. We operate– we live – at a constant threat.". Jake resists the human's temptation of greed and becomes one of the Na'vi, helping them and the conservation of their environment at all costs. This is one of the reasons I admire Jake as a character as when he is first introduced in the film he portrays a character that only cares about fighting and earning money, but as the story progresses the audience sees that spending time with the Na'vi has caused Jake to become a better person. This is because they have influenced his thoughts and opinions, teaching him respect and to care for every organism as though it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film is based around an ex –marine who became after a paraplegic after an unexplained wound. He takes up his brother role in a Avatar program on the distant pnet pandora after her brother's death. He is expects to take on the role of becoming a Na'vi and becoming involved with the people learning their culture, becoming close and apart of their tight clan. In the movie, human beings have come from Earth to Pandora to gather unobtainium and to study the native people. Unobtainium is a substance that can be used for powering things and sells for a large amount of money. It is discovered that a large deposit of the substance sits beneath a tree which is the home of The People. This discovery causes conflicts between the humans and the indigenous people. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The practicing of imperialism on Pandora led to conflict between the humans and the Na'vi . Due to the humans' want of the Na'vi's land for resources, they fought against one another in a battle that resulted in a loss for the humans. A similar result of imperialism can be seen in the Crimean War, in which Russians fought the Ottomans in the hopes to gain land on the Black Sea and get access to the Mediterranean Sea and resulted in a loss for Russia. It can also be seen in The Great Game, which sparked a conflict between England and Russia over Afghanistan and India for their resources. Another effect of imperialism on Pandora was harm to the environment, seen in the cutting down of the Hometree and the burning of the forest surrounding it. This was done by the invading humans to drive out the Na'vi in order to collect the unobtainium beneath the tree. The environment was also harmed in the European practice of imperialism in Africa. As a result of imperialism in Africa, cash cropping for products such as peanuts, palm oil, cocoa, and rubber was practiced. This caused famine and starvation in the country due to a lack of food ... • 18. Introduction Of The Movie Avatar Introduction: The film Avatar (italics on titles– plus remove the bold writing on your paragraphs and remove all the planning above when you submit the final) directed by James Cameron is the story of Jake Sully; the man who is asked to take the place of his twin brothers place at Pandora for a scientific experiment. At the start he was very hesitant toward taking his brothers (apostrophe) place, there were times when he felt like not continuing with the program. Along the way he faced a series on tests, allies and enemies. The end result is what he was starting to want near the end of the movie.(the more formal term is film) Body: When he was first called to the mission he had moments of refusal because it was a scientific task and he was in the marine prior to this, therefore he was used to going in 'all guns blazing' rather than trying to figure it out scientifically and appreciating who they are and what their land means to them. Other people were not accepting of him, due to his paralysis, causing him to be in a wheelchair. There is evidence of this when someone from the army side says to their friend that he is 'meals on wheels'. Later in the movie, once Jake had figured out that the avatars are nice and that the army shouldn't (avoid contraction – should not) be destroying their land, he starts to refuse orders from Kernell (the army leader). Kernell was demanding that he told him important things (be precise – what are these important thing exactly?) about the avatars so it would be easier to destroy them, but jake could keep changing from an avatar to a human, so when he came back to the human life he would usually start to fill Kernell in on what happened but near the end he stopped telling him so he could save the avatars. He realised that the avatars were actually really nice and approving of him after a while. Where can you include the how? In other words, the cinematic technique, for instance 'full shots capture Jake interacting with The colonel' or 'a close–up shot reveals the moment Jake realises that the Na'vi people need to be respected' During the 2 hours and 42 minutes Jake faced a series of multiple tests, allies, and enemies. Examples Of Imperialism In Avatar Domination of Poor Lives The movie called Avatar, directed by James Cameron, is about a retired Marine soldier, Jake Sully, who goes on a long journey to the outer space to explore the planet of "Pandora". The film represents acts of imperialism and how it's the superior situation. James Cameron accurately paints the picture of European imperialism in the film Avatar by portraying the concept that living beings have homes and great opportunities to existing, and those who claim their ways for their own purposes shall be decimated. Firstly, assimilation plays its part when people need to gain information. For instance, in Avatar, the mining supervisor says: "Look. You're supposed to be winning the hearts and minds of the natives. Isn't that the whole point of your little puppet show? If you walk like them, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example would be Kipling's White Man's Burden: "Take up the White Man's burden––Send forth the best ye breed––Go bind your sons to exile, To serve your captives' need; to wait in heavy harness, On fluttered folk and wild––Your new–caught, sullen peoples, Half–devil and half–child." (Rudyard Kipling's White Man's Burden, lines 1–8). This is significant since James Cameron restates the judgment of candidates about the natives. The assumption destroys the trustworthy relationship between the explorers and the natives due to the disliking of their lifestyle. Therefore, in our history of European exploration, the white people didn't care about the natives' state of intellect, so the establishers doubted they had more power than anybody else. The movie Avatar, released in 2009 and directed by James Cameron, is an example of a main plot and a subplot carried by the hero's journey and has many examples of other archetypes. • 36. Religious Allusions In Avatar James Cameron's 2009 film, Avatar is a must–watch. The film taps into many aspects of human life, especially spirituality. Cameron has produced the film with many allusions to biblical times. The planet of Pandora was portrayed as a very spiritual ground. It is that the 'monsters' of the earth are far more connected to a supreme being than humans, who are the actual "monsters", ought to be to our Savior. In Avatar, the militarists, led by Quaritch, are determined to retrieve a very useful mineral from the planet of Pandora because the earth has already been eroded. They are trying by all means possible to destroy the planet, but unknowingly cause destruction upon themselves. The militarists "open" a world that would cause them harm. Meanwhile, Cameron unveils another spiritual aspect where he included the Na'Vi's relationship with Eywa, a spirit that is a part of the "Tree of Souls". The Na'Vi's turn to Eywa for everything and their faith is grounded in her. This was demonstrated when these unusual creatures realized that their land was in trouble. An army of them is pictured praising and pleading to Eywa to help them. The Na'Vi's have a special relationship with their "mother" and they would stop at nothing to protect her, as humankind ought to be with their environment and God. Cameron uses this spiritual aspect of the film as a warning tale, which is a traditional story with a moral message warning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The humans have weapons and technology superior to that of the Na'vi. Humans similarly have power over the "prawn" in district 9. On earth there is garbage piled up as high as skyscrapers because of the nonchalant attitude that humans had during their time on the planet. That it is the film's way of critiquing pollution and is also a warning to us that one–day if we continue to pollute our planet only bad things are going to happen.
