Integrating Virtual Learning
 Environments and Narrative-
Centred Learning Environments
to create positive teaching and
      learning outcomes.

Definition of Terms
• Virtual Learning Environments (VLE’s) are defined
  by Wikipedia as an education system based on
  the web that models conventional real-world
  education     by    integrating   a     set    of
  equivalent virtual      concepts and academic
  resources.


• Narrative-Centred Learning Environments (NCLE’s)
  are described by Bruner (1990) as a unique
  sequence of events, mental states, happenings
  involving human beings as characters or actors.
Learning Outcomes for Participants

• To understand how VLE’s and NCLE’S
  can be integrated to create positive
  teaching and learning outcomes.

• To discuss the effectiveness of
  combining VLE’s and NCLE’s and how
  they could be used in your own context.

   Read Rowe, J. P., Shores, L. R., Mott, B. W., & Lester, J. C. (2011). Integrating
   learning, problem solving, and engagement in narrative-centred learning environments.

    As a group, discuss your understanding of a narrative-centred learning environment
    and whether you believe it leads to greater or less engagement in learning, relating it
    to your own context where applicable.


• Activity Two
Undertake further research on narrative-centred learning environments.        Discuss
   whether you believe these are viable learning environments which combine narrative
   and virtual worlds whilst ensuring pedagogy is part of the teaching and learning
   process.
