How To Write A Descriptive Chicago
I look out the car window and watch the curving road disappear and reappear as it hugs the sides of the Ecuadorian mountains. Contemplating my
growing boredom or an inkling of carsickness, my eyes focus on something new in the landscape. I see children on the side of the road, smaller than
my eight–year–old self and wrapped in striped blankets in light of the cool weather. With their outstretched hands they can only be doing one thing:
begging. Who would stop to help these children on this rural, high–speed road? The likelihood of anyone pausing to answer their plea is close to zero.
Their dark faces soon vanish as the car rounds another curve.
A week later, I sit in a boat on the Amazon River, waiting to depart from the tiny village myfamily and I just visited. Indigenous children of all ages
crowd around our river guide on the sodden bank, their hands eagerly outstretched as they wait to receive the golden coin chocolates he hands out.
Their clothes are mismatched and muddy, coinciding with the mismatched and muddy village in which they live, but all my eight–year–old mind
thinks about is the poor quality of the chocolate they appear so excited about. Now whenever I see those golden coins with their mediocre chocolate, I
think of those children.
A year has passed and I crouch on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
In 1971, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was created. It took time but after a while, it became loved. It was great for children to watch and
adults to watch with or without their children. In 2005. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was created by Tim Burton so of course it had Johnny
Depp in it, making it very popular. It was also great for children to watch as well as adults. The characters in the movies are all rude, snobs, and
treated everyone and everything terribly. The main characters in the beginning of the movie (Charlie's family was very nice). Charlie and his
grandfather were the only nice ones that made it into the factory. The children and their parents who made it into the factory were usually all snobs,
rude, or annoying (Violet Beauregarde and her mother Mrs. Beauregarde). All of these children put together in a group... Show more content on

Some of the stuff that shouldn't be messed with was messed with by children who don't have common sense. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was
very different from Willy Wonkaand the Chocolate Factory. In the original movie Charlie didn't have a father, but Charlie in the 2005 version did
have a father. In the original (1971) movie, the oompa loompas were known as the orange–skinned people wearing odd costumes, but in the recent
(2005) movie they are known as the jungle people, which sounds a little better and maybe less racist. In the 2005 version Mr. Wonka was humorous,
giving the audience a good laugh. He also had flashbacks of his past unlike the 1971 Mr. Wonka. Some things looked like they were more
contemporary. The glass elevator was contemporary, the room that was contemporary, just about everything was pretty contemporary. Instead of using
the average hallway, Tim Burton used a candy boat and a glass elevator. The town that Charlie lived in looked more dark and depressing. When those
tickets came out everyone was happy and excited and looking for the

Why Is Roald Dahl The Best Essay
Have you ever wondered who and what makes a good author? Well I think Roald Dahl is the best, and I think he is the best because Roald Dahl has
made so many good books that were turned into movies like for example, Matilda, Charlie and the chocolate factory and The BFG.So it must be easy
or brilliant enough to be turned into a very good movie to watch.Roald Dahl has written so many books in his lifetime. Roald Dahl was not just an
author he was also a spy, an ace fighter pilot, a chocolate historian and a medical inventor. In this following essay there will be three acceptable
reasons of why he is the best author. The first reason of why he is the best is because Roald Dahl puts an image into our heads without the
illustrations he just describes it really well with just words. Like for example he put Imagery when Mr.Wonka was describing the vermicious knids in
Charlie and the great glass elevator. The way he said it was like this "The vermicious Knid can turn itself into any shape it wants. It has no bones.
Their body is really one huge muscle, enormously strong but it can just as easily give itself two legs like a human." I think it is a very good
explanation of a vermicious knid and it actually seems kind of creepy. In Matilda when Hortensia was describing Ms.Trunchbull I think Roald Dahl
had made a pretty clear explanation when he was making Hortensia describe how terrible Ms. Trunchbull. She said, "She hates every small children.
She therefore loathes the bottom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He always has creative and imaginative ideas that are unusual, unique and hilarious. I also like the illustrator for the drawing, it always matches the
book and it also looks really good combined. Maybe Roald Dahl inspired you to start writing your own stories. Maybe when you write your own
stories there might be,backward words, great and funny characters or maybe you might have literary devices. So Who do you think is the best author

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory Essay
In the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the mise
–en–scГЁne tells the audience a lot about the story going on around them. The movie
starts off introducing the different kinds of candy that are produced in what we can only assume, is the Wonka Factory. With this the director sets a
calm and colorful effect to his audience, thus capturing their full attention. Once this is over we see that kids crave wonka candy since it is the first
thing that the kids do once school is out for the day. Here is when Charlie Bucket is introduced. He is the kid that stands outside the candy store
because he cannot afford the sweets. So after looking at all the happiness the candy brings the other kids, goes on and gets his pay for working as a
paperboy. Once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This one prop is the most important object since it sets the plot of the film. This one prop sets the world on a craze. So as the winners are starting
to be announced we see different types of kids winning the one of a kind prize. The first winner, Augustus Gloop, an avid eater; the second winner
Veruca Salt, a spoiled brat; the third winner was Violet Beauregarde, a gum chewing girl; the fourth winner Mike Teevee, a boy who is addicted to
television; finally there is Charile, the poor disadvantaged one of the group. And to each of the winners a man by the name of Mr. Slugworth, talks to
each of them telling them to steal a Everlasting Gobstopper. So with this in mind the five winners head to the Wonka factory, whereWilly Wonka
himself is introduced in a dramatic entrance. Once inside everything is colorful and childlike, which in turn is a reflection on Willy Wonka's
personality and his way of life. It reflects the kind of person Wonka really is, a honest, loving, and childlike

Airline Pilots: Who Is Racist?
Asiana Airlines Flight 214, which crash–landed in San Francisco on July 6, had one unexpected casualty this week. On Friday, local television station
KTVU aired what it thought were the names of the airline pilots. Unfortunately, the names turned out to be pure fiction: Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo,
Ho Lee Fuk and Bang Ding Ow. The station quickly realized it had been pranked and issued an apology, but it was too late: word of the blunder
spread all over the Internet. Later, the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that one of its summer interns had confirmed the fake names to
the station. The gaffe was naturally the source of much chortling in the discussion boards. The KTVU news team was universally ridiculed for letting
the obviously bogus names slip through. There was, however, disagreement over the funniness of the names themselves. Some thought the joke was
racist; others insisted it was no more racist than the telephone pranks Bart Simpson plays on Moe ("Is Mike there? Last name, Rotch"). The media
outlets that publicized the gaffe were united in labeling the prank offensive, though you would expect that from companies that rely on a wide audience
for their livelihood.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sure it is. But perhaps a more nuanced answer is that it is racially insensitive. The offensiveness quotient isn't so high that it warrants outrage from
anyone. And I doubt that the author of the prank thought up the names with the intention of demeaning a group of people. But it remains that these
names belong to the same broad category as the racist memes that have long been directed at Asians, particularly Chinese, in

Comparison of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Book...
Comparison of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Book Vs. Movie
For this paper, I chose the Roald Dahl modern fantasy book, Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory, and the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Dahl's
books are mostly fantasy and full of imagination. They are always a little cruel, but never
without humor – a thrilling mixture of the grotesque and comic. A frequent motif is that
people are not what they appear to be. Dahl's works for children are usually told from the
point of view of a child, and they typically involve adult villains, usually women who
hate and mistreat children, and feature at least one "good" adult to counteract the
villain(s). However, this tale offers a different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mel Stuart's direction however takes
some parts of the movie in a slightly darker direction than the book. One sequence, for
example, the boat ride on the chocolate river, in hindsight shows a psychedelic influence
seen more at rock concerts than in films for children. I think that the book can be enjoyed
by readers 3rd grade and up, but I think the film would be enjoyed by a more mature child,
perhaps 5th or 6th grade.
Other differences between the film and the book include:
The film expanded the role of Wonka's rival Slugworth, who tempts the children to give him the recipe for Wonka's Everlasting Gobstoppers. It turns
out at the end, that he is actually an employee of Wonka who participates in a test of character of the ticket holders, which Charlie Bucket passes with
flying colors.
The effect of Fizzy Lifting Drinks that are only described in the book are demonstrated by Charlie and Grandpa Joe in the movie.
In the book, Veruca Salt, the spoiled brat, was thrown down a garbage chute by trained squirrels that could recognize a "bad nut", while the movie had
her dropped down a garbage chute by an egg testing machine that could recognize a "bad egg".
After Willy Wonka, Charlie, and Grandpa Joe fly out of thefactory in the great glass elevator, the book describes the fates of other four children as
they leave the factory. This is followed by the elevator

Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory
After not allowing humans in his Chocolate Factory for the past decade Willy Wonka, a creative genius of all things chocolate and candy, decided to
let five lucky children tour his Chocolate Factory. All the children, excluding Charlie, had to leave the tour early due their greed and disobedience.
Being at a Chocolate Factory full of temptation, the person who is quickly adaptable to not fall into the temptations reaps the rewards at the end. All
the other children fell prey to their temptation and vices, while Charlie did not succumb to the pressure. At the end, being the only one left, Charlie
became the sole winner and inheritor of the Chocolate Factory. This idea follows the theory of Charles Darwin and shows that Charlie will be a great...

How did a poor boy, who lives in a two–room house with only one bed and only enough money to buy chocolate once a year find the golden ticket?
He did not have a rich dad like Veruca Salt who bought her hundreds of thousands of chocolate bars, and he himself did not eat candy everyday like
Augustus Gloop. The difference between the rest of the children and Charlie is that he believes in miracles. Charlie continues forward no matter what
the obstacles he faces, he continued to fight to survive even in the face of starvation with his family during the cold winter. Against all odds and after
three attempts of not finding the golden ticket Charlie finally found it. Charlie believes in miracles and he needs a wild imagination to become the
next big boss and inventor like Willy Wonka. Charlie never doubted Willy Wonka when he said he was creating absurd square
–like things that look
round, or gum that gives you a three–course meal, and candy that gives you hair. Charlie's unshakeable belief of miracles and persistence will allow
him not to give up when he starts inventing amazing candy and chocolate that does not work right

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory
The movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was made in 1971 and is based off Roald Dahl's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It tells
the story of a young boy named Charlie Bucket who is one of five children who wins a golden ticket to a tour of Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate
factory. The movie shows many themes of good versus evil, giving in to temptations and redemption which are also themes shown throughout the Bible.
The first biblical worldview that Willy Wonkaand the Chocolate Factory explores is good versus evil. In the movie there are two characters that can
easily identifiable as good and evil. Willy Wonka represents good as he often brings happiness and joy to his surroundings and is the one who gives
out the golden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done through the character of Charlie Bucket. Charlie is the protagonist in the story, but he is not perfect as, like the other children, he also
gives into temptation. This happens when Charlie and his Grandpa decide to try a drink that will make you fly, although by doing this they nearly
get killed, they eventually return safely back to the group, believing that no one had found out about what they did. This has many connections to
the story of Adam and Eve, who eat a forbidden fruit but believe that God will not be able to catch them. However, God knew what they had done
and in result they were banished from the Garden of Eden. Charlie, like Adam and Eve, also pays the consequences of this actions when Wonka
denies him the prize of a lifetime supply of chocolate. Unlike the story of Adam and Eve however, when Charlie shows remorse for his actions
Wonka reveals to him that he was only testing him and declares that he wants Charlie to take over the factory. This relates to the bible in John 1:9,
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". This idea also touches on the biblical
worldview that no human is perfect and it is impossible for someone not to sin, however it is to ask for forgiveness which is most

There have been different definitions of Hospitality. Broadly speaking, Hospitality is the act of kindness in welcoming and looking after the basic
needs of guests or strangers, mainly in relation to food, drink and accommodation. A contemporary explanation of Hospitality refers to the relationship
process between a guest and a host. When we talk about the "Hospitality Industry", we are referring to the companies or organisations which provide
food and/or drink and/or accommodation to people who are away from home. However, this definition of the "Hospitality Industry" only satisfies most
situations. Can you think of any circumstances where the phrase "away from home" would not be accurate? Resort hotel 1 Introduction to Hospitality

Willy Wonka Research Paper
Did Charlie really win by his own fate or did Willy Wonka Play an even more prominent role than many readers thoughts? To answer this question
requires examining of the text, where some suspicions arise regarding Wonka. Wonka possesses almost God
–like power and authority over his world
that he uses to manipulate events so that Charlie would inherit his factory by manipulating certain events, influencing the five ticket holders beforehand.
To understand this, the factory and Wonka's power needs analyzing. The initial research throughout the tour involves the relatively infinitely expanding
factory that Willy Wonkacontrols, like Oompa Loompas, the size of the factory that is inconclusive, or the glass elevator that cannot exist without

How Ketchum Is A Small Town Of Northeast Oklahoma That Has...
Ketchum is a small town in northeast Oklahoma that has a present–day population of 450 residents. Ketchum first became a town in 1899 and was
named after a Delaware tribe member named James Ketchum. The town was originally located in the northeast part of Mayes County, close to James
and his wife Elisabeth's home. However, in 1912 once the Kansas, Oklahoma & Gulf Railroad was expanded from Kansas to Texas the town was
relocated. Residents moved the town site to the southeastern part of Craig County sandwiched between Mayes County and Delaware County to be near
the railroad.
In 1803 part of the land that would someday become Ketchum was a small portion of the land that was acquired through the Louisiana Purchase. This
land was unsettled and deemed only suitable for Indian relocation. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson signed The Indian Removal Act and all Indians
West of the Mississippi were forced to move to theIndian Territory. Once the tribes arrived in Indian Territory they began to rebuild. The struggles to
rebuild lasted many years and some tribes never flourish as they once did. Many of the effects of the forced relocation are still felt today. Because of
the forced removal the Indians did not trust the federal government. When the civil war began in 1861 many of the Indians sided with the confederates
due to the lack of trust they had with the federal government and many of the tribes fought alongside with the Confederate army. "Old Military Road"

Human Resource (HR) management
The design of formal systems in an organization to ensure the effective and efficient use of human talent to accomplish the organizational goals.
As human resources have become viewed as more critical to organizational success, many organizations have realized that it is the people in an
organization that can provide a competitive advantage.2 Throughout the book it will be emphasized that the people as human resources contribute to
and affect the competitive success of the organization. Human Resource (HR) management deals with the design of formal systems in an organization
to ensure the effective and efficient use of human talent to accomplish organizational goals. In an organization, the management of human resources
means that they must be recruited, compensated, trained, and developed.

In fact there will never was, nor will there ever be, a time that would surpass the horror humanity faced during the outbreak. We were put through a
trial. Some passed and some failed. The worst traits of humanity were exposed during the outbreak. But at the same time, the best traits shone so
brightly that the darkness of humanity dissipated. It was the survivors that fought to get our lives back who had these traits. Many credit me with
bringing together so many people, with different ideals, to fight back or bringing out the best in people because I inspired them. That was not
true. It was thanks to true humanity. The humanity I always knew existed. It's just that it was always suppressed by the darkness of humanity. If
you said to me a year before the outbreak that this would happen, I would send you to a mental asylum. I guess the joke is on me, so to speak. I
wasn't, what some would say, a confident person. I would just follow others and just do my job. The outbreak changed all that. It changed
everyone, especially me. Some people got stronger due to the outbreak. Some became weaker. Being leader of the survivors? This idea would be
absurd to me before the outbreak. I never wanted to be a leader. I just wanted to get by life like any other person. I didn't believe that I would make a
good leader. But I was wrong. What was that quote by Umbert...? Umberto Eco! It was, "The real hero is always a hero by mistake; he dreams of

The chocolate factory is a physical difference between poverty and wealth. Don't judge a book by its cover as I have been told. From the outside
of the Wonka chocolate factory it seems as if the factory is an ordinary large factory where chocolate is produced and distributed. While within the
factory its true cover the true glories cannot be seen without a closer look. Another symbol is the golden ticket. The ticket represents hope, hope in
which any individual could receive this once in a life time opportunity. The golden ticket also represents poverty vs. wealth. The golden ticket, made
entirely out of gold is the most valuable thing that Charlie has ever touched in his life time. As for the ungrateful children the ticket meant popularity,
being able to be one of the five to ever walk into the Wonka factory. Finding the fifth and final golden ticket allowed Charlie to live his dream. The
last symbol within the film was the glass elevator, or the, "Great Glass Wonka–vator," as Mr. Wonka had said himself. The glass elevator represent

his tales of adventure and magic.
To start off, he created a large range of books from fantasy to non–fiction. He liked literature from the beginning, but after he crashed a war plane and
nearly lost his nose, writing seemed better and better. His first book ever published was actually for adults. He had success and published another book

was mostly put to rest when he said that he was just saying what he meant. To bring it to the end, he died in 1990. His tale of overcoming an

The term constantif, which Metz borrowed from Austin, should be rendered by "constantive" and not by "ascertaining"
(p. 25). Finally, "actor" to translate Greimas 's concept of actant is misleading and actant is usually kept (see DucrГґt and Todorov, Encyclopedic
Dictionary of the Sciences of Language, Johns Hopkins University Press,
1979, p. 224), and discours image when translated as "image discourse" is not very clear, since it is referring to film, which is made up of images.
The following rough spots occur only once each: "Unusual" (p. 5) translates weakly insolite, which has also the connotation of strange, disquieting,
surprising, unexpected, and uncanny. A "slice of cinema" (p.14) would be preferable to a "piece of cinema." "Narrative agency" rather than "instance";
"de–realization"or "de–realizing" rather than "unrealizing."
"A seminal concept" (p. 58) doesn 't really render une notion gigogne
(again the idea of embedded concepts). The title of Lang 's film which is translated by The Damned is actually M. "Signifying statements" should be
"semenes" (p. 26). I have not found an English equivalent for mise en grilles, which refers to a gridlike breakdown of linguistic units and which Taylor

to being zapped into a TV, so that they tend to come across as refreshing and entertaining to the audience. However, it must not be overlooked that this
small book does present some horrid actions in a positive light, including the sadistic treatment of children, removal of a large population from work,
and imperial superiority over indigenous populations. Eleanor Cameron went so far as to deem this novel as a 'tasteless' story that represents the nasty
character of the author (Cameron). Though she is correct in terms of some of the atrocious aspects of the book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is far
from being a 'tasteless' book. On the contrary, it is a book that must be kept on the bookshelves, to inform us of some of the darkest aspects of humanity.
The repulsiveness of Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregard, and Mike Teavey are so obviously revealed in the book that there is no room to
doubt that they are indeed nasty. In fact, they are never even remotely pleasant, resulting in impatient readers that cannot wait for these children to be
punished. Consequently, when karma finally catches up to these spoiled children – and their parents who have raised them that way – it

Edward Scissorhands
Writers, directors, actors and producers, they all play a part in the film making process. However an Auteur is someone whom has a very distinct
artistic influence in his or her films and is well known for their particular style. When it comes to having a reputation in the film industry, Tim burton is
at the top of the list. Burton is known for his peculiar characters and mysterious themes that he features in his films. Born and raised in California,
Burton began his film career in 1981 and produced some of the biggest hits in the entertainment industry such as Alice In Wonderland, Edward
Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Together these films alone made almost 2 billion dollars. Growing up Burton's parents were very

When it comes to using these techniques, Burton is no rookie. He uses movements such as panning and tilts to add authority and power to his
characters and chilling music to add suspicion at times. For example, in Edward Scissorhands, as peg drives out of her driveway, a still frame of
peg's car heading towards Edwards, sinister mansion is shown. This particular shot gives peg a powerless appearance and shows the obvious
difference in the two living styles, giving Edward an intimidating and almost threatening presentation. As peg approaches his mansion, leery music
begins to play adding a mysterious vibe to the scene, giving the audience the fear of the unknown and showing peg's vulnerability in Edward's strange
environment. Another example where Tim Burton has effectively shown the use of cinematic techniques was seen in Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory, where multiple flashbacks occurred from Wonka's childhood. This editing technique not only showed Wonka's interesting past but it also
filled in some blacks in regards to why Wonka may have started up his chocolate factory. These flashbacks showed Wonka's emotional side and his
disconnected relationship with his father in which potentially could have been the cause of his terrible social skills that he now has to face. Overall,

Tim Burton Film Techniques Essay
Tim Burton's films are strange and wonderful with his medium shots, eye level angles, and front or back lighting. His films have great depth of
meaning and he always seems to get the audience's attention with his techniques. In some of his movies like "Edward Scissorhands" and
"Beetlejuice" he used many different techniques to demonstrate sinister moods and tones. The tones of his movies are usually always dark because of
his childhood experiences and past. Tim Burton creates something so odd and turns it into a work of art. The purpose of medium shots is for
capturing the medium distance between the camera and the objects or characters being filmed, it's used to express the main story of what's occurring.
For example, in his movie "Edward Scissorhands", Tim Burton filmed a medium shot of when Edward watched the water bed slush around before he
put a hole in the mattress. The medium shot makes the scene funny and odd to watch; considering the scene is Edward moving along, watching the
bed, then him poking a hole on accident in the water mattress, plus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The technique allows the audience to become apart of the movie, in a way the angle gives the audience the characters eyes, letting the audience see
what the character might be seeing from their view point. For example, in "Charlie in The Chocolate Factory", Tim Burton caught the audience's
attention when some of the characters were just beginning to meet Willy Wonka, before they were invited inside his factory. The scene was shot from
the character's eye level looking up at Willy Wonka and listening to him speak about welcoming them to his factory, although he was reading off of
note cards and just showed them singing, dancing, mechanical puppets that quit working due to catching on fire. The scene was in particularly odd and

The Chocolate Factory Tour
29. The morning of the chocolate factory tour, it was said to be chaotic with people pushing and shouting with policemen trying to keep them back from
the gates.
30. All of the children, with the exception of Charlie who was accompanied only by his Grandpa Joe, were accompanied by both of their parents.
31. Willy Wonkagreets them by doing a funny little skipping dance.
32. Wonka asks the children to present their tickets, one at a time, and them all individually.
33. Wonka seemed just as excited as the golden ticket winners were.
34. There is no mention of Wonka's father.
35. The group has to make many right and left turns that take them deep underground to arrive at the chocolate room.
36. The male Oompa–Loompa's wear deerskins, women wear fresh leaves, and children wear nothing at all. In the Television Chocolate Room, the
Oompa–Loompas wear red spacesuits.
37. Is not mentioned.
38. Veruca's mom is a geography teacher.
29. In contrast, it is shown to be very peaceful and orderly but police are shown to be creating a barrier between the crowd and the winners.
30. Violet and Augustus were accompanied by their mothers, while Mike and Veruca were accompanied by their fathers.
31. The visitors to the factory are greeted first by an automated puppet show.
32. Wonka does not see why it would matter to learn all their names and the children took it upon themselves to introduce themselves to Wonka.

Historical Analysis of the Movie, Citizen Kane Essay
Historical Analysis, Citizen Kane: Camera Movement Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles, was an exemplary and ground–breaking work. In
narrative structure and film style, Welles challenged classical Hollywood conventions and opened a path for experimentation in the later 1940s. Gregg
Toland's deep–focus cinematography and Welles' use of low–key lighting are often discussed aspects of the movie. True, these were areas of
innovation, but when watching the movie in class I was particularly struck by the use of camera movement, or "mobile framing" as described in Film
Art. In this historical analysis, I will take a detailed look at how Welles and Toland use camera movement to develop and challenge the Hollywood
style. By referring... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Murnau, in The Last Laugh uses camera movement subjectively when the doorman is drunk and hears the sound of the trumpet. This is unique, and
shows how some filmmakers used the technique for more experimental ends (just as Lang would use sound in his film M). But in America, in a film
like Wings, the spectacular camera movement in the French nightclub happens only once, and it just establishes a space before the action begins.
With the coming of sound, in movies like Applause, camera movement became clumsy and difficult. Mamoulian still tried it to make his film look
more fluid, but it often was distracting. In Citizen Kane, Welles and Toland blend camera movement with the drama of the scenes, and use it more
spectacularly. They extend the device in two directions, and in doing so they challenge Classical Hollyood's convention of Invisible Style. A good
example is the introduction to El Rancho, where Susan Alexander works as a singer. The camera begins on a sign outside the restaurant and then
climbs upward to the roof. Then it glides forward, through another sign, and approaches a skylight. When it reaches the skylight, Welles uses an
"invisible" dissolve to cut to a high–angle long–shot of the interior of El Rancho. This camera movement calls attention to itself as a spectacle. Not
only is it unusual to begin a scene by climbing up a building and floating across its roof, the cut through the glass window (skylight) is obviously
impossible. Welles uses the

Charlie Film Techniques
The message conveyed to the audience in the film Charlie and the Chocolate factory (1971) directed by Mel Stuart successfully demonstrates skills
use of film techniques. To analyse this scene I will look at Symbols, Witten, Audio and technical codes or commonly SWAT codes. This film makes
use of very popular theme good things happen to good people. In this scene we see and hear skilled use of techniques to Coney this message.
The world is astounded when Willy Wonka, for years a recluse in his factory, announces that five lucky people will be given a tour of the factory,
shown all the secrets of his amazing candy, and one will win a lifetime supply of Wonka chocolate. Nobody wants the prize more than young
Charlie, but as his family is so poor that buying even one bar of chocolate is a treat, buying enough bars to find one of the five golden tickets is
unlikely in the extreme. But in movieland, magic can happen. Charlie, along with four somewhat odious other children, get the chance of a lifetime
and a tour of the factory. Along the way, mild disasters befall each of the odious children, but can Charlie beat the odds and grab the brass ring?... Show

Chapter 25 The Great Glass House
1.Mr Wonka and the infinite possibilities In Chapter 25, the Great Glass Lift serves as a purpose of transportation from the Nut Room to the
Television–Chocolate room and reveals the existence of the countless number of rooms in Wonka's factory. "Quickly, Charlie started reading some of
the labels alongside the buttons. THE ROCK–CANDY MINE – 10,000 FEET DEEP, it said on one. COKERNUT–ICE SKATING RINKS, it said on

Even when Mr Wonka enjoys ill–timed jokes and rollercoaster elevators, he comforts Mrs Teavee in times of need. While he lets the Oompa–Loompas
get dangerously drunk from Butterscotch and gin, he ensures their safety on the mountain and Television–Chocolate Room. In his factory, the
child–like and fantastical theory of television and magical inventions actually comes true and functions, just like how the teleported chocolate can be
taken out through the television screen. Charlie never speaks unless he is spoken to and he never asks for more than he is given. Behind Charlie's
meek and virtuous exterior, lies a great level of inner strength and courage– features often asked of an ideal adult. In the beginning of the book, Charlie
simply indulges in the savory smells coming out of the factory without feeling bitterness or anger like the other children would. By being passive and
timid on the surface while the other children show opposite traits, Charlie's inner struggle and subtle overcoming of the innate desires can be inferred.
Mr Wonka, with similarity of having both adult and child within him, can recognize that Charlie shares these traits, and finds him fitter than any other
children. Perhaps by being able to be passive and moderate in a world full of desire and excess, all the while enjoying spontaneous adventures, Charlie
deserves to be the

Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory Research Paper
Willy Wonka, the owner of the Wonka chocolate factory, has decided to open the doors of his factory to five children and their parents. In order to
choose who will enter the factory, Mr. Wonka hides five golden tickets in the wrappers of his Wonka chocolate bars. The search for the five golden
tickets is fast and furious. The first four golden tickets are found by the gluttonous Augustus Gloop, the spoiled and petulant Veruca Salt, the
gum–addicted Violet Beauregarde, and the TV–obsessed Mike Teavee. A boy named Charlie Bucket lives in poverty in a tiny house with his parents
and four grandparents. His grandparents share the only bed in the house, located in the only bedroom. Charlie and his parents sleep on a mattress on
the floor. Once a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next day is the date that Mr. Wonka has set for his guests to enter the factory. In the factory, Charlie and Grandpa Joe enjoy the sights, sounds,
and smells of the factory, and also encounter the Oompa Loompas who have been helping Wonka operate the factory since he found them living in
their own poverty and fear in Loompaland, as well as their strong desire for Cocoa beans. The other kids are ejected from the factory in comical,
mysterious and painful fashions. Augustus Gloop falls into the Chocolate River when he wants to drink it, and he is sucked up by one of the pipes.
Violet Beauregarde impetuously grabs an experimental piece of gum and chews herself into a giant blueberry. Veruca Salt is determined to be a "bad
nut" by nut–judging squirrels who throw her out with the trash. Lastly, the television lover, Mike Teavee, shrinks himself into a tiny size. With only
Charlie remaining, Willy Wonkacongratulates him for "winning" the factory and after explaining his true age and the reason behind his golden tickets,
names Charlie his successor. They ride the great glass elevator to Charlie's house and bring the rest of Charlie's family to the

This article will discuss about the selection issues by using the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the 2005 film version. Three different selection
paradigms which are psychometric, social process, and fit will be discuss in this article and how these three paradigms relate to plotlines in Charlie and

Among the selection methods used by the industry to select staff, the traditional approaches seem to maintain their predominance over more
sophisticated techniques. The psychometric paradigm can be adopt in THL industry during selection by select the right candidates based on assess
individuals against the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) that required for the particular job. As shown in the film, Wonka only wants a child
who shares the same belief and value with him to be the successor and he only employ the squirrels to work in Nut Room because only the squirrels
can get the whole walnuts from the shell. THL industry can also practice the same by select the candidates that have the ability, skills and knowledge
to perform the job. As an example, hotel should only employ one who has the knowledge, skills and ability on finance to fill the finance manager

Death Of A Salesman Play Review
Act I[edit]
The play opens with Charlie Bucket searching for valuables in a dump near his home. As he picks up candy wrappers, he speaks with a mysterious
tramp, and heads home to his family ("Almost Nearly Perfect"). His home is a one–room shack under a railway arch. As he and his grandparents wait
for their cabbage soup to boil, they tell Charlie about Willy Wonka("The Amazing Tale of Mr. Willy Wonka"). After Charlie's father returns home
dispirited from lack of work, Charlie pens a letter about chocolate while singing"A Letter from Charlie Bucket", folds it into a paper airplane and sends
it flying out into the night.

How To Write A Descriptive Chicago

  • 1. How To Write A Descriptive Chicago I look out the car window and watch the curving road disappear and reappear as it hugs the sides of the Ecuadorian mountains. Contemplating my growing boredom or an inkling of carsickness, my eyes focus on something new in the landscape. I see children on the side of the road, smaller than my eight–year–old self and wrapped in striped blankets in light of the cool weather. With their outstretched hands they can only be doing one thing: begging. Indigenous children of all ages crowd around our river guide on the sodden bank, their hands eagerly outstretched as they wait to receive the golden coin chocolates he hands out. Their clothes are mismatched and muddy, coinciding with the mismatched and muddy village in which they live, but all my eight–year–old mind thinks about is the poor quality of the chocolate they appear so excited about. Now whenever I see those golden coins with their mediocre chocolate, I think of those children. A year has passed and I crouch on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 2. Compare And Contrast Charlie And The Chocolate Factory In 1971, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was created. It took time but after a while, it became loved. It was great for children to watch and adults to watch with or without their children. In 2005. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was created by Tim Burton so of course it had Johnny Depp in it, making it very popular. It was also great for children to watch as well as adults. The characters in the movies are all rude, snobs, and treated everyone and everything terribly. The main characters in the beginning of the movie (Charlie's family was very nice). Charlie and his grandfather were the only nice ones that made it into the factory. The children and their parents who made it into the factory were usually all snobs, rude, or annoying (Violet Beauregarde and her mother Mrs. Beauregarde). All of these children put together in a group... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the stuff that shouldn't be messed with was messed with by children who don't have common sense. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was very different from Willy Wonkaand the Chocolate Factory. In the original movie Charlie didn't have a father, but Charlie in the 2005 version did have a father. In the original (1971) movie, the oompa loompas were known as the orange–skinned people wearing odd costumes, but in the recent (2005) movie they are known as the jungle people, which sounds a little better and maybe less racist. In the 2005 version Mr. Wonka was humorous, giving the audience a good laugh. He also had flashbacks of his past unlike the 1971 Mr. Wonka. Some things looked like they were more contemporary. The glass elevator was contemporary, the room that was contemporary, just about everything was pretty contemporary. Instead of using the average hallway, Tim Burton used a candy boat and a glass elevator. The town that Charlie lived in looked more dark and depressing. When those tickets came out everyone was happy and excited and looking for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Is Roald Dahl The Best Essay Have you ever wondered who and what makes a good author? Well I think Roald Dahl is the best, and I think he is the best because Roald Dahl has made so many good books that were turned into movies like for example, Matilda, Charlie and the chocolate factory and The BFG.So it must be easy or brilliant enough to be turned into a very good movie to watch.Roald Dahl has written so many books in his lifetime. Roald Dahl was not just an author he was also a spy, an ace fighter pilot, a chocolate historian and a medical inventor. In this following essay there will be three acceptable reasons of why he is the best author. The first reason of why he is the best is because Roald Dahl puts an image into our heads without the illustrations he just describes it really well with just words. Like for example he put Imagery when Mr.Wonka was describing the vermicious knids in Charlie and the great glass elevator. The way he said it was like this "The vermicious Knid can turn itself into any shape it wants. It has no bones. Their body is really one huge muscle, enormously strong but it can just as easily give itself two legs like a human." I think it is a very good explanation of a vermicious knid and it actually seems kind of creepy. In Matilda when Hortensia was describing Ms.Trunchbull I think Roald Dahl had made a pretty clear explanation when he was making Hortensia describe how terrible Ms. Trunchbull. She said, "She hates every small children. She therefore loathes the bottom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He always has creative and imaginative ideas that are unusual, unique and hilarious. I also like the illustrator for the drawing, it always matches the book and it also looks really good combined. • 4. Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory Essay In the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the mise –en–scГЁne tells the audience a lot about the story going on around them. The movie starts off introducing the different kinds of candy that are produced in what we can only assume, is the Wonka Factory. With this the director sets a calm and colorful effect to his audience, thus capturing their full attention. Once this is over we see that kids crave wonka candy since it is the first thing that the kids do once school is out for the day. Here is when Charlie Bucket is introduced. He is the kid that stands outside the candy store because he cannot afford the sweets. So after looking at all the happiness the candy brings the other kids, goes on and gets his pay for working as a paperboy. Once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This one prop is the most important object since it sets the plot of the film. This one prop sets the world on a craze. So as the winners are starting to be announced we see different types of kids winning the one of a kind prize. And to each of the winners a man by the name of Mr. Slugworth, talks to each of them telling them to steal a Everlasting Gobstopper. So with this in mind the five winners head to the Wonka factory, whereWilly Wonka himself is introduced in a dramatic entrance. Once inside everything is colorful and childlike, which in turn is a reflection on Willy Wonka's personality and his way of life. It reflects the kind of person Wonka really is, a honest, loving, and childlike ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Airline Pilots: Who Is Racist? Asiana Airlines Flight 214, which crash–landed in San Francisco on July 6, had one unexpected casualty this week. On Friday, local television station KTVU aired what it thought were the names of the airline pilots. Unfortunately, the names turned out to be pure fiction: Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk and Bang Ding Ow. The station quickly realized it had been pranked and issued an apology, but it was too late: word of the blunder spread all over the Internet. Later, the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that one of its summer interns had confirmed the fake names to the station. The gaffe was naturally the source of much chortling in the discussion boards. The KTVU news team was universally ridiculed for letting the obviously bogus names slip through. There was, however, disagreement over the funniness of the names themselves. Some thought the joke was racist; others insisted it was no more racist than the telephone pranks Bart Simpson plays on Moe ("Is Mike there? Last name, Rotch"). The media outlets that publicized the gaffe were united in labeling the prank offensive, though you would expect that from companies that rely on a wide audience for their livelihood.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sure it is. But perhaps a more nuanced answer is that it is racially insensitive. The offensiveness quotient isn't so high that it warrants outrage from anyone. And I doubt that the author of the prank thought up the names with the intention of demeaning a group of people. But it remains that these names belong to the same broad category as the racist memes that have long been directed at Asians, particularly Chinese, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparison of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Book... Comparison of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Book Vs. Movie For this paper, I chose the Roald Dahl modern fantasy book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Dahl's books are mostly fantasy and full of imagination. They are always a little cruel, but never without humor – a thrilling mixture of the grotesque and comic. A frequent motif is that people are not what they appear to be. Dahl's works for children are usually told from the point of view of a child, and they typically involve adult villains, usually women who hate and mistreat children, and feature at least one "good" adult to counteract the villain(s). However, this tale offers a different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mel Stuart's direction however takes some parts of the movie in a slightly darker direction than the book. One sequence, for example, the boat ride on the chocolate river, in hindsight shows a psychedelic influence seen more at rock concerts than in films for children. I think that the book can be enjoyed by readers 3rd grade and up, but I think the film would be enjoyed by a more mature child,
  • 7. perhaps 5th or 6th grade. Other differences between the film and the book include: The film expanded the role of Wonka's rival Slugworth, who tempts the children to give him the recipe for Wonka's Everlasting Gobstoppers. It turns out at the end, that he is actually an employee of Wonka who participates in a test of character of the ticket holders, which Charlie Bucket passes with flying colors. The effect of Fizzy Lifting Drinks that are only described in the book are demonstrated by Charlie and Grandpa Joe in the movie. In the book, Veruca Salt, the spoiled brat, was thrown down a garbage chute by trained squirrels that could recognize a "bad nut", while the movie had her dropped down a garbage chute by an egg testing machine that could recognize a "bad egg". Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory After not allowing humans in his Chocolate Factory for the past decade Willy Wonka, a creative genius of all things chocolate and candy, decided to let five lucky children tour his Chocolate Factory. All the children, excluding Charlie, had to leave the tour early due their greed and disobedience. Being at a Chocolate Factory full of temptation, the person who is quickly adaptable to not fall into the temptations reaps the rewards at the end. All the other children fell prey to their temptation and vices, while Charlie did not succumb to the pressure. • 11. Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory The movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was made in 1971 and is based off Roald Dahl's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It tells the story of a young boy named Charlie Bucket who is one of five children who wins a golden ticket to a tour of Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory. The movie shows many themes of good versus evil, giving in to temptations and redemption which are also themes shown throughout the Bible. The first biblical worldview that Willy Wonkaand the Chocolate Factory explores is good versus evil. In the movie there are two characters that can easily identifiable as good and evil. This is done through the character of Charlie Bucket. Charlie is the protagonist in the story, but he is not perfect as, like the other children, he also gives into temptation. This happens when Charlie and his Grandpa decide to try a drink that will make you fly, although by doing this they nearly get killed, they eventually return safely back to the group, believing that no one had found out about what they did. This has many connections to the story of Adam and Eve, who eat a forbidden fruit but believe that God will not be able to catch them. However, God knew what they had done and in result they were banished from the Garden of Eden. Charlie, like Adam and Eve, also pays the consequences of this actions when Wonka denies him the prize of a lifetime supply of chocolate. Unlike the story of Adam and Eve however, when Charlie shows remorse for his actions Wonka reveals to him that he was only testing him and declares that he wants Charlie to take over the factory. This relates to the bible in John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". Ketchum first became a town in 1899 and was named after a Delaware tribe member named James Ketchum. The town was originally located in the northeast part of Mayes County, close to James and his wife Elisabeth's home. However, in 1912 once the Kansas, Oklahoma & Gulf Railroad was expanded from Kansas to Texas the town was relocated. Residents moved the town site to the southeastern part of Craig County sandwiched between Mayes County and Delaware County to be near the railroad. In 1803 part of the land that would someday become Ketchum was a small portion of the land that was acquired through the Louisiana Purchase. This land was unsettled and deemed only suitable for Indian relocation. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson signed The Indian Removal Act and all Indians West of the Mississippi were forced to move to theIndian Territory. Once the tribes arrived in Indian Territory they began to rebuild. The struggles to rebuild lasted many years and some tribes never flourish as they once did. Many of the effects of the forced relocation are still felt today. Because of the forced removal the Indians did not trust the federal government. When the civil war began in 1861 many of the Indians sided with the confederates due to the lack of trust they had with the federal government and many of the tribes fought alongside with the Confederate army. It was the survivors that fought to get our lives back who had these traits. Many credit me with bringing together so many people, with different ideals, to fight back or bringing out the best in people because I inspired them. That was not true. From the outside of the Wonka chocolate factory it seems as if the factory is an ordinary large factory where chocolate is produced and distributed. While within the factory its true cover the true glories cannot be seen without a closer look. Another symbol is the golden ticket. The ticket represents hope, hope in which any individual could receive this once in a life time opportunity. The golden ticket also represents poverty vs. wealth. The golden ticket, made entirely out of gold is the most valuable thing that Charlie has ever touched in his life time. As for the ungrateful children the ticket meant popularity, being able to be one of the five to ever walk into the Wonka factory. Finding the fifth and final golden ticket allowed Charlie to live his dream. The last symbol within the film was the glass elevator, or the, "Great Glass Wonka–vator," as Mr. Wonka had said himself. Many can trace their childhood memories to one of his books, but sadly he is no longer alive. His legacy, however, lives on in the hearts of millions of kids and adults worldwide.Roald Dahl created impactful books, applied past knowledge to current events, and illuminated the faces of countless children reading his tales of adventure and magic. To start off, he created a large range of books from fantasy to non–fiction. He liked literature from the beginning, but after he crashed a war plane and nearly lost his nose, writing seemed better and better. His first book ever published was actually for adults. To bring it to the end, he died in 1990. His tale of overcoming an obstacle, and all his books, help him be immortalized in history. The term constantif, which Metz borrowed from Austin, should be rendered by "constantive" and not by "ascertaining" (p. 25). Finally, "actor" to translate Greimas 's concept of actant is misleading and actant is usually kept (see DucrГґt and Todorov, Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Sciences of Language, Johns Hopkins University Press, 1979, p. 224), and discours image when translated as "image discourse" is not very clear, since it is referring to film, which is made up of images. The following rough spots occur only once each: "Unusual" (p. 5) translates weakly insolite, which has also the connotation of strange, disquieting, surprising, unexpected, and uncanny. A "slice of cinema" (p.14) would be preferable to a "piece of cinema." "Narrative agency" rather than "instance"; "de–realization"or "de–realizing" rather than "unrealizing." "A seminal concept" (p. 58) doesn 't really render une notion gigogne (again the idea of embedded concepts). The title of Lang 's film which is translated by The Damned is actually M. • 23. The Great Joys Of Reading Roald Dahl 's Charlie And The... One of the great joys of reading Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, is the catharsis experienced by the readers when four nasty children are forced to undergo some gruesome punishments. These punishments are carried out in very creative ways, from being turned into a big blueberry to being zapped into a TV, so that they tend to come across as refreshing and entertaining to the audience. However, it must not be overlooked that this small book does present some horrid actions in a positive light, including the sadistic treatment of children, removal of a large population from work, and imperial superiority over indigenous populations. Eleanor Cameron went so far as to deem this novel as a 'tasteless' story that represents the nasty character of the author (Cameron). Though she is correct in terms of some of the atrocious aspects of the book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is far from being a 'tasteless' book. On the contrary, it is a book that must be kept on the bookshelves, to inform us of some of the darkest aspects of humanity. The repulsiveness of Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregard, and Mike Teavey are so obviously revealed in the book that there is no room to doubt that they are indeed nasty. In fact, they are never even remotely pleasant, resulting in impatient readers that cannot wait for these children to be punished. Consequently, when karma finally catches up to these spoiled children – and their parents who have raised them that way – it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Edward Scissorhands Writers, directors, actors and producers, they all play a part in the film making process. However an Auteur is someone whom has a very distinct artistic influence in his or her films and is well known for their particular style. When it comes to having a reputation in the film industry, Tim burton is at the top of the list. Burton is known for his peculiar characters and mysterious themes that he features in his films. Born and raised in California, Burton began his film career in 1981 and produced some of the biggest hits in the entertainment industry such as Alice In Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Together these films alone made almost 2 billion dollars. Growing up Burton's parents were very efficient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it comes to using these techniques, Burton is no rookie. He uses movements such as panning and tilts to add authority and power to his characters and chilling music to add suspicion at times. For example, in Edward Scissorhands, as peg drives out of her driveway, a still frame of peg's car heading towards Edwards, sinister mansion is shown. This particular shot gives peg a powerless appearance and shows the obvious difference in the two living styles, giving Edward an intimidating and almost threatening presentation. As peg approaches his mansion, leery music begins to play adding a mysterious vibe to the scene, giving the audience the fear of the unknown and showing peg's vulnerability in Edward's strange environment. Another example where Tim Burton has effectively shown the use of cinematic techniques was seen in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where multiple flashbacks occurred from Wonka's childhood. This editing technique not only showed Wonka's interesting past but it also filled in some blacks in regards to why Wonka may have started up his chocolate factory. These flashbacks showed Wonka's emotional side and his disconnected relationship with his father in which potentially could have been the cause of his terrible social skills that he now has to face. • 26. Tim Burton Film Techniques Essay Tim Burton's films are strange and wonderful with his medium shots, eye level angles, and front or back lighting. His films have great depth of meaning and he always seems to get the audience's attention with his techniques. In some of his movies like "Edward Scissorhands" and "Beetlejuice" he used many different techniques to demonstrate sinister moods and tones. The tones of his movies are usually always dark because of his childhood experiences and past. Tim Burton creates something so odd and turns it into a work of art. The purpose of medium shots is for capturing the medium distance between the camera and the objects or characters being filmed, it's used to express the main story of what's occurring. For example, in his movie "Edward Scissorhands", Tim Burton filmed a medium shot of when Edward watched the water bed slush around before he put a hole in the mattress. The medium shot makes the scene funny and odd to watch; considering the scene is Edward moving along, watching the bed, then him poking a hole on accident in the water mattress, plus ... The technique allows the audience to become apart of the movie, in a way the angle gives the audience the characters eyes, letting the audience see what the character might be seeing from their view point. The scene was shot from the character's eye level looking up at Willy Wonka and listening to him speak about welcoming them to his factory, although he was reading off of note cards and just showed them singing, dancing, mechanical puppets that quit working due to catching on fire. • 29. Historical Analysis of the Movie, Citizen Kane Essay Historical Analysis, Citizen Kane: Camera Movement Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles, was an exemplary and ground–breaking work. In narrative structure and film style, Welles challenged classical Hollywood conventions and opened a path for experimentation in the later 1940s. Gregg Toland's deep–focus cinematography and Welles' use of low–key lighting are often discussed aspects of the movie. True, these were areas of innovation, but when watching the movie in class I was particularly struck by the use of camera movement, or "mobile framing" as described in Film Art. In this historical analysis, I will take a detailed look at how Welles and Toland use camera movement to develop and challenge the Hollywood style. By referring... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Murnau, in The Last Laugh uses camera movement subjectively when the doorman is drunk and hears the sound of the trumpet. This is unique, and shows how some filmmakers used the technique for more experimental ends (just as Lang would use sound in his film M). But in America, in a film like Wings, the spectacular camera movement in the French nightclub happens only once, and it just establishes a space before the action begins. With the coming of sound, in movies like Applause, camera movement became clumsy and difficult. Mamoulian still tried it to make his film look more fluid, but it often was distracting. In Citizen Kane, Welles and Toland blend camera movement with the drama of the scenes, and use it more spectacularly. They extend the device in two directions, and in doing so they challenge Classical Hollyood's convention of Invisible Style. A good example is the introduction to El Rancho, where Susan Alexander works as a singer. The camera begins on a sign outside the restaurant and then climbs upward to the roof. Then it glides forward, through another sign, and approaches a skylight. When it reaches the skylight, Welles uses an "invisible" dissolve to cut to a high–angle long–shot of the interior of El Rancho. This camera movement calls attention to itself as a spectacle. Not only is it unusual to begin a scene by climbing up a building and floating across its roof, the cut through the glass window (skylight) is obviously impossible. Welles uses the ...
