School High School
The question that most students possess coming out of high schools usually refers to "what's next"
or "what do I want to do with my life?" I think that it is important that people have these questions
at their disposal because it forces students to not only evaluate their strengths but also discover what
really makes them happy. The reason for this correlates towards people striving to work in an area
that makes them happy but also provides them with the money they desired in order for life to be
exciting. Whether students consider going to a four–year school straight out of high school or going
into the workforce, it should be a decision that fits both their lifestyle and future passion. High
schools have definite and solidified purposes when it comes to teaching students. One of the main
ideas is that high schools should prepare students for the creativity in the future wherever it may
take them. A key message that Ken Robinson stated during his TED TALK was that classes and tests
are driven more towards standards and less correlated with the creative aspect, which has been lost.
This may be extremely detrimental because creativity allows people to take different paths that best
fit their individual characteristics. It allows students to maximize their abilities on assignments and
better benefit them. The main reason that I think creativity has diminished within many classes may
attribute to the shift towards more of a neoliberal system.

High School Sports
Are high school sports good for kids? Many people believe that athletic sports are good, but they
ignore the fatal flaws of these activities. Youth and high school sports are harmful because athletes
often get too caught up in winning and get hurt frequently, physical sports also take away from other
extracurricular activities. Although sports aid in the prevention of heart disease and obesity. As the
article What in The Name of High School Football? states, "The single greatest factor in preventing
the nation's number one killer – heart disease – is regular and vigorous exercise, and that gets my
vote." Exercising regularly and keeping a healthy diet can prevent many health–related diseases. But
there are many, much less dangerous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same article says, "Based on almost 1,900 injury reports submitted to the RIO, the researchers
estimated there were 517,726 football–related injuries during (the) 2005–2006 season at the high
school level across the United States. The NCAA system lagged more than 3,500 injuries in its
database during the same period." Children become injured in athletic sports more than most other
things. Lastly, athletic sports takes away from other extracurricular activities. In What in the Name
of High School Football? Hank Hill writes, Yet only a few weeks ago, 16 MVRHS vocalists and
instrumentalists auditioned for the competitive All Cape & Islands music festival. And the judges
selected a remarkable 16 of 16. Unheard of success. And yet not a mention in the local papers. Not a
word on the radio. Not a sentence in the principal's address. Not a squeak on the morning
announcements. Not a face on the Wall. The gift of music came wrapped in silence." Athletic sports

School Bullying And High Schools
All across the United States children in schools are going through an unescapable problem presented
as bullying found in elementary, middle, and high schools. This issue can affect everyone, those who
are bullied, those who bully, and those who witness bullying. School bullying can be taken in two
different ways direct and indirect; including name–calling, teasing, malicious rumor spreading, and
physical violence. Once thought of a normal part of growing up is now recognized as a serious
problem that must be stop at an early age. Among all age groups children between 7 and 12 most
often are the main target. Sadly most every kid experiences bullying and as children mature the
types of bullies tends to change into more physical aggression. In order to reduce bullying knowing
the signs such as torn cloths, missing possessions, requests for extra lunch money, dropping grades,
and refusing to go to school can all be indications that a child is being bullied. To prevent children
from being harmed by school bullying, professional educators and parents have a duty to understand
the complexity of bullying in U.S. schools and take action. Besides disrupting classroom activities,
school bullying generally harms children 's ability to learn at school, and has been shown to
contribute to truancy and dropout rates. As I look at resources pertaining to this issue the only way
to improve bullying is to successfully use a method to form a bullying prevention program. The
planning model that

High Schoolers And High School
Think back to when you were a child. While looking around, you often realize all of your friends
playing sports are exceptional at them. You are not the ultimate athlete and honestly don't enjoy
sports at all, but you keep playing anyways. All of your friends' play and your parents have always
encouraged you to do well in sports and to be the best. You know there are other opportunities out
there for you, but you don't feel as popular just being satisfactory in school. In today's world, high
schoolers are constantly under pressure to do well in sports, but not necessarily in school. Life
lessons, like getting a job or just being an overall good person fly out the window. Central High
School focuses too much on athletics instead of academics; this problem can be alleviated through
the encouragement of parents to promote academic success and to help set realistic goals.
Parents need to promote academic success at every age and no matter what the student is involved
in. One of the problems today is that too many kids are overinvolved in activities, not allowing them
to have the proper amount of time to finish homework. Children are constantly under the
presumption that sports are more important than doing well in school. They work harder in practice
than when doing homework. Parents need to help encourage kids to get homework done, excel
academically and to gain the right friends. Many kids wind up making friends through sports and
then they feel as though if they

High Schools Should Start Later In High School
Imagine going to school being half asleep,High Schools should begin later in the day to
accommodate for students to get natural sleep they need, Teenagers usually are not aware during the
day due to sleep schedules. Sleep also affects the health of teens who do not get enough rest. High
schools should change their schedules to help students become more advanced in school. High
Schools should begin later in the day to accommodate for students to get the natural sleep they
really need. Natural sleep clocks would keep them awake during the day. With a natural sleep clock,
students can have all the sleep they need to last them through the day. Therefore they would be
energized for the day. It will help keep students more active during classes.

Procrastination In High School
I can easily say that procrastination was something I struggled with throughout my high school
career. It was so easy for me to choose a football game or a night out with friends over studying or
doing homework. Even though school work is obviously more important than hanging out with
friends, I prioritized my social status. I thought it was the biggest worry in my life, but now that I
am in college, I know that my social life must come second to school work. I spent so much time
trying to impress people that I haven't spoken a word to since graduation. It is embarrassing to think
about how I portrayed myself in high school and how I thought being the top dog was the key to
success. Looking back, I wish all the time I wasted thinking about how others viewed me had been
spent studying and focusing on school work. Once during my sophomore year of high school, we
had our first major project due in biology, a good old–fashioned leaf project. It was due in the
middle of September, and fall was in full bloom. Which means the leaves were changing, dying and
falling off the tree. For the assignment we were required to collect thirty–two different types of
leaves. The leaves had to be in pristine condition, labeled, pressed, and in a scrapbook for the project
to be complete. I spent all my time going to football games, soccer games, and involved myself in to
many events. I had play practice everyday, got home late and then went straight to bed. I never made
time or pushed aside

High School Athletes
Every high school has different social, stereotypical cliches. Throughout various schools, there are
"the nerds" who enjoy completing assignments and value high grades, "the loners" that stick to their
secluded, individual group, and "the jocks" or athletes that participate in every sport possible. High
school athletes dedicate a numerous amount of time to practicing and playing sports. Multi–sport
athletes never receive a break between seasons, after one sport concludes the other begins in a
matter of days. Some might find athletics to be tiring, never–ending, and consuming to their
personal life, but athletics also has tremendous benefits for adolescents. Participating in high school
athletics provides numerous health benefits, generates authentic relationships, and builds useful life
skills. Every sport requires physical effort; therefore, practicing daily in physical activity promotes
positive health benefits. According to Fitday.com, "Doctors have found that exercise can boost your

Participating in high school sports allows athletes to meet new friends and create numerous
meaningful friendships with their teammates. Athletes who play multiple sports together and spent
countless hours with each other begin to truly develop a strong relationship with their teammates
that extends beyond athletics. Athletes begin to not only consider their teammates as friends but as
their family. Playing different teams exposes athletes to building relationships with the opponent.
After years of playing against each other, athletes begin to form an acquaintanceship which can
develop into a friendship. The community enjoys following and watching high school athletics;
therefore, the people form a relationship with the athletes. Some, not knowing the athlete personally,
follow their success in the newspaper or on social media

Transitioning Into High School
The effect of choosing which high school a student will be attending will last longer than the four
years. The decision follows the student into college, continuing their habits set in high school. The
more basic question is whether they will attend a same sex or co–ed school. The different types of
high schools do not only effect the 9–12th grade experience but effects the behavior of students
transitioning into college classrooms. "This is a common debate in my house: whether it is helpful to
attend same sex high schools or not. My sister attended a same sex school and her college professor
noticed before she could tell him. Because of her active participation and constant hand raising, her
teacher asked if she attended a single sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"It took me a few years of high school to be comfortable raising my hand in class. I was too scared
to ask something dumb, or answer a question wrong that I found myself and other girls asking each
other questions before asking the teacher," said Jessica Recker, senior at Perrysburg high school.
Many co–ed schools find it necessary to have a talk to males about how to treat female classmates
and how to behave themselves while also teachings girls how to properly treat their make
classmates. Single sex schools communicate more on how to handle the drama that may occur when
putting same sex students together. Transitioning from high school to college is a complex process
for students from all schools. It's complexity is rooted not only in choosing the gender of the school
but rather the size, environment, distance and other factors that go into determining where these new
adults will go for their next four years. Although the college atmosphere is a new feel for all
incoming freshmen, the habits and behavior students learn from high school tend to stick with them
when they enter classes at universities. The effect of going to a same sex high school can show
differently in all students at the start of college. The same goes for co–ed graduating

Although I was excited to be cruising down Highway 30 there was one problem we weren't going to
be home until the 13th and volleyball practice started on the 11th. High schools are focusing more
on sports than any other extra–curricular activity could create serious penalties for missing the first

uncountable options for student involvement. In FFA no matter the involvement level a member is

with the others you see at school every day, in FFA you can meet people and work with a team from

Leadership Conference, and FFA Competitions. The Northeast FFA Chapter offered the opportunity
for 5 sophomores this past summer to go on the Washington Leadership Conference. Lucky enough
to be one of these participants I rode the 22 hour bus ride to D.C. and on the way there I had already

roommates were from Kansas, Missouri, and Ohio. Throughout the week we got to meet more kids
from around the U.S. like New Jersey, South Dakota, and more as a big group we packaged nearly
30,000 meals in one morning, we traveled to Arlington National Cemetery and paid respect for those
who died for our freedom, and traveled the subway inspiring D.C. natives with our blue and gold
jacket all week. Packaging meals inspired us to think about other people and what an advantage we
have just in food. All of those 30,000 meals stayed in the D.C. area and they would all be used

High School Cliques In High Schools
Any teen movie ever made has successfully pushed the social hierarchal agenda. Look at any John
Hughes movie from the 1980's and you'll see a familiar trend. The common stereotypical high
school cliques such as the popular crowd, the jocks, and the nerds flashed across the screen. Ever
since the inception of films geared towards teenagers, the idea of queen bees and academically inept
jocks was reinforced in a negative light. Creating anxieties for middle schoolers around the world.
Though these heavy stereotypes do plague many high schools, there are some schools that seem to
be exempt from the trend. Studies show the exemption could stem from the size of the school.
However, the amount of freedom the students have also made a difference when it comes to social
order. Daniel McFarland, a professor of education at Stanford Graduate School of Education,
conducted a study monitoring two separate high schools on what causes cliques, and why they
occur. McFarland states in his research "Larger schools that offer more choice and variety are most
likely to form hierarchies, cliques, and self–segregation, ... In smaller schools, and in smaller
classrooms, you force people to interact, and they are less hierarchical, less cliquish, and less self–
segregated." His study was conducted in two different high schools over two semesters. He goes on
to say, "Schools that offer students more choice – more elective courses, more ways to complete
requirements, a bigger range of potential

Elementary School And High School
Class is defined as a group of people who have a similar level of wealth and income. Even though
this ideology is more referred to specific individuals regarding their occupation, education can be
considered to follow this same description. There are educational institutions everywhere, one
elementary school usually in one part of a neighborhood in your hometown. As these schools grown
in number and increase in grade level however, less become established and there tend to be a
smaller amount of high schools within a city compared to elementary or middle. This means that for
every 4 or 5 neighborhoods there is 1 high school that is responsible for accepting these residents.

How are low income schools different than higher income schools? This is a concerning issue
because if there continues to be a financial difference between educational institutions that affects
the quality of schools, there will be an entire generation of students that will have received a poor
education and have limited opportunities of successfully integrating with society compared to
graduates that attained a higher quality education from a higher income school. This decreases social
mobility of low income school graduates, continues stratification, and may encourage low income
graduates to enact in high risk illegal acts to support themselves and families since they were not
properly prepared to be college ready in high school. Low income schools mainly differ from higher
income schools through student performance in college preparatory exams and behavioral
issues/stigmas.
Differences in student performance on college preparatory exams is the first noticeable difference
between low income schools and higher income schools. Bryan Station had a larger percentage of
students that underperformed and scored a lower average mean ACT composite score compared to
Fayette County and Kentucky. The average ACT score of a Bryan Station student is 18.1, compared

I've arrived to my first class of my college career. It was labeled as a humanitarian class, whatever
that meant. It was probably going to be some older person, who either can't teach, or that I couldn't
learn from, teaching an uninteresting topic that probably will not ever be of use to me. This short,
thin statured woman walks in, in what appears to be, a disheveled appearance. As she hands out
some papers that we would be needing for the quarter, I fake excitement when I locked eyes with
her. Getting her to think that I was excited for this class and looked forward to the quarter, although
I really didn't, wasn't difficult task, because that only lasted for that second. When I read the papers
that had been handed out earlier, I saw the syllabus, a glossary of art terminology, and an ancient
Greece fact sheet. My faked excitement instantly turned into real excitement, joy, and, to some
degree, love. This was the class that I needed to ease my adjustment into the college life: Art

Essay On High Grades In High School
As I made the walk into my first hour, geometry, my first day of high school; I thought to myself I
would never pass this class, I am a freshman in a sophomore class and I have not been taught any of
this before. Nervous and scared about the rest of the day and how hard my classes would be, I
looked forward to a year of low grades and failed assignments. However, this was not the case, high
school classes were much different then what I had thought. Many teachers were easy on students,
gave less homework than I had expected and were lenient on the homework assignments. Much
different than what I had expected, I have flown through high school with ease and superior grades.
On the other hand, as I begin to take college courses, I have learned that those grades in High
School were much easier to obtain and were of less value. High Schools have made it easier to get
higher grades, and that in turn, will affect my grades in college.
It can be seen strongly at my High School, Oologah High, that students have gotten lazier and
parents still expect teachers to hand out better grades. When enrolling and selecting classes; students
have the option to select easier, less demanding classes, yet are still rewarded with high grades.
Now, instead of taking classes that reward hard work and prepare students for the future, they are
able to pass easy classes and receive better scores. Those students who take more rigorous courses
are slated with more work, tougher assignments, and

High School Homework
Introduction
Traditionally, a high school schedule consists of seven or eight class periods, each one lasting 45 to
50 minutes. Since 1964, when Joliet West High School opened its doors, it has used a traditional
seven to eight period school day. 53 years later, problems are starting to arise with how the school
day is laid out. Recently, students are becoming more involved in sports, jobs, and extracurricular
activities, and the traditional schedule is making it harder for students to keep up with the work from
seven different classes. This task is especially difficult for students in honors and AP classes.
According to Allie Bidwell, an education reporter for U.S. World and News Report, the average high
school students spends about eighteen hours a week on homework. That works out to be about four
hours every night. In my experience, I average around two hours of homework every night, still a
long time spent on homework. At Joliet West, students are released from school at 3:15; if they go
home and start their homework right away, all their homework could be completed by eight o'clock.
However, a majority of students do not have the luxury of having all night to work on homework.
With about half of students participating in a sport, many have practice after school until six o'clock.
This pushes back their night, so instead of getting done with homework at eight, they will not finish
until ten o'clock. A large portion of high school students experience this

Extending High School
"High school is like a spork: it's a crappy spoon and a crappy fork, so in the end it's just plain
useless." –John Mayer Many people when asked will tell you that high school is pointless except for
being essential to gain higher education. No student will tell you that adding two years to their
already exhausting four years of high school is a good idea especially if the extra years are going to
be exactly like the rest of their high school experience. However if the extra two years are
constructed with brand new curriculum and help prepare students efficiently for what is to come in
college, then it could be very beneficial. It has become apparent that many students drop out of
college within their first year. My principals of business teacher, Mr. Eeg, has told me numerous
amounts of time that he has students who return from their "dream" colleges after just one year to
instead go to De Anza or Foothill because their college life was too hectic for them. They claim it
was too much reading, too much homework, and not enough of an actual life out of school and/or
work. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

High School Dropouts
The issue of high school dropouts is a serious concern for educators, policymakers, and the public.
High school dropouts experience numerous adverse consequences in response to an incomplete
education. For instance, high school dropouts are more likely to lack the skills necessary for
successful employment and further education, to be unemployed, to be welfare recipients, and when
employed, to make less money, lack health insurance, suffer health problems, and to be involved in
crime on average than their peers who did complete (Belfield & Levin, 2007; Rumberger, 2011;
Swanson & Editorial Projects in Education, 2009). High school dropouts are also more likely to
suffer from depression or other mental health issues (Rumberger, 2011; Swanson & Editorial
Projects in Education, 2009). Additionally, dropouts present numerous challenges at a societal level,
including a serious socioeconomic problem, given that most are undereducated and ill–equipped to
meet the rapidly advancing technological needs of society's workforce. (Zablocki, & Krezmien,
2012).
The issue of dropping out does not happen over–night, rather, it is a decision that occurs throughout
the duration of early education. Understanding how to identify students who are at–risk for dropping
out of school is essential in increasing high school completion rates. While students tend to drop out
of school in high school, early identification of at–risk students can help parents and educators can

school here I met amazing people who I got along with and they helped me alot with my struggles.
Even though I had those amazing friends I still did not feel like I belonged here. I felt as if I was not

School Funding For High School
Leaving middle school can be very exciting for most of the young adults as they turn over their life
into high school. High school can be a very long path, with great memories, and great experiences.
But not everyone goes through the same thing everyone expects too. A big issue that is according to
now in new generations of young teens in high school is teens dropping out of school. Many teens
take the decisions of not continuing in going on with high school because they are around bad
influences that cause them not to go to school. In addition having no support from parents or family
members. The school funding can also be a problem, they may not have enough funds for programs
to keep students busy after school. When teens start meeting new friends in a new high school, they
meet different type of people. Young teens have different plans about their future and education. Not
everyone thinks the same; even though they are in the same age. When teens start hanging out with
other teens that have been getting into trouble beginning in their middle school days. They influence
the other teens into bad influences. That 's when they create a little group of bad influence students
that beginning ditching school, that then results in drop outs. Teens that are already bad influences
use drugs and alcohol. They begin in getting addicted to drugs in which they can 't concentrate in

High School To College
Transitions from high school to college was one of my stressful adjustment ever. It was all a long
process which started in my counselor's office at my high school. Applying for college, getting
accepted, tuition and moving on campus. It was definitely a long journey, driving 11 hours from
Florida to Alabama was when I realize that I'm going far away from home. First thing I notice when
I got at the school was the beautiful buildings and the environment. It looks more different from
what I saw online. First day was very busy then I though. I had to go to admission, financial aid,
business and housing, making sure all my papers and payments was done before my parent leave to
Florida. I honestly thought high school and college will be almost the same, but college is a lot
different from what I thought. High school help build my foundation and got me ready for college.
On the other hand, college is an institution of higher education. But when all the first day process
was done I was happy to get the keys to my room. Almost every freshman had plan to design and
organize their room. I was one of those freshmen. I plan to design my dorm room just like my room
at my house. Reason because I felt that it will make me more comfortable and feel like home.

School Experience In High School
As a small child in elementary school, I can remember the anticipation of unstructured recess that
followed our daily lunch routine. Ordinarily, the bell for lunch would ring. The teacher would line
everyone up and that is when the excitement would erupt. Immediately the chatter of little voices
commenced among the students as they collaborated with their peers about what they desired to
conquer first. At that very moment imaginations exploded! Were to begin? Would be the question on

luxurious field full of dandelions? Or the merry–go–rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, jump

portal to a wondrous world of whimsical delight: The Playground! Instantly the deafening sound of
screeching chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor would erupt. Followed simultaneously with the
rumble of wild, uncontrollable energy bursting through the cafeteria doors. Students scattered
uncontrollably; running competitively to their previously discussed desired positions. FREEDOM a
time to run wild with no cares, no worries, a time to jump, and holler. A time to enjoy being a kid. A

Graduating High School
Graduating High School Is Not Enough to Stop Learning
According to "Obama Urges Students to Pursue Higher Education", writes by David Jackson, USA
Today editorial staff; I agree with President Obama that high school students need to continue the
higher education to get a better life for themselves and also for their country. I think the diploma in
higher education is really important because by growing of the socioeconomic, almost the jobs
today or in future need the higher education workers than high school or GED, such as college or
university. Therefore, if the students skip the higher education, they may difficult to get a good job
to take care of themselves and their families. I also agree with President Obama when he says,

High School Dropouts
Working two jobs, paying bills, and trying to live a good life are what most dropouts go through.
Education is a key factor in succeeding in life. However, not all students get to complete their high
school and continue on to a college. Completing high school and getting a degree from college is the
ticket to a better lifestyle. As we look around us, people are still living and paying off their bills even
as dropouts from high school. However, they are living at a hand–to–mouth situation. Most dropouts
probably work several jobs to just pay off their bills and support themselves. Today, you can have a
well–respected job and a better lifestyle with simply an associate or bachelor's degree. So, what is
wrong with being a high school dropout? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(3) Yet, a student is exempt from this policy if he fulfills the requirements under article 25.086 in the
education code. (4) This policy lists the students who are exempt from the compulsory attendance
age. Under this policy, a student of at least 17 years old working on an exam equivalent to high
school with a few other requirements and a student of at least 16 years old also preparing to take an
exam equivalent to high school with a few other requirements are exempt from the compulsory
attendance age stated in section 25.085. (4) Both of these policies contribute to the percentage of
high school dropouts. The question that boggles my mind is if students have to attend school until
the age of 18 or can complete an exam equivalent to high school if they are exempt under section
25.085, then according to the Texas on the Brink report, why does Texas have such a low percentage
of students who graduate from high school? (3,5) Because of the definition of dropout by NCES, I
do not consider the students under section 25.086 as dropouts because they are "enrolled in grades
7–12," are "not expelled," do not graduate, but do get their GED. (2) Therefore, they are not
dropouts. However since these students do not actually graduate from high school,

Stereotypes In High School
High school is full of a variety of types of people, who can all be labeled into certain groups or
stereotypes. High school can be an amazing time for people, just as easily as it could be a terrible
time for people. It's quite odd how everyone goes to the same school, and mostly attend the same
courses, yet they are significantly different from one another. Every school has the classic jocks,
nerds, partiers/stoners, etc., but it appears our generation has created several new stereotypes. With
students spending approximately 35 hours a week at school, it is easy for one another to label each
other, and determine who they "fit in" with.
The most common stereotype in Spring Lake is the "Preppy Rich Kid." The "Preppy" part of these
kids is that they love to wear a perfectly matching outfit; including their colorful Polo Shirts/t–shirts,
colorful short–shorts, matching socks, with a matching pair of boat–shoes/skate–shoes. The "Rich"
part of these kids is that they live in a big house on the water, their parents have high–paying jobs,
and their parents will buy them whatever they desire. These kids typically drive an expensive
foreign car, usually blaring rap music out of their car's subwoofer everyday to school. Once they
have arrived at school, most of them have a very enjoyable day. For the most part, they have a
perfect life, including getting all the girls/boys, receiving good grades, being attractive, and being a
phenomenal athlete. These kids are likable people, and

School Day In High School
The school bell rings at 2:50 indicating the end of the school day. I race out of my AP Chemistry
class and head straight for my car parked across the street from the high school. Within four
minutes, I'm pulling out of the parking lot and heading north on McHenry Avenue. As I drive as
"efficiently" as possible, I scan the street for any dangers. I approach the only stoplight on this
relatively short journey and I pray that it's green. Luckily, it almost always is. I continue up the
street for a few more blocks and pull into the parking lot of the public library at 2:58. I put the car in
park, turn it off, open the glove department and grab my earbuds, and take the water bottle from my
backpack. I sprint up the stairs, into the Youth Department, and straight to the carts of books to be
put away. Within seconds, my earbuds are in, the podcast app is open, and I'm pulling a cart of
books over to the Junior Non–Fiction section. Every Thursday, Friday, and sometimes Tuesday
afternoon I work at my local public library in the Youth Department after school. I have two primary
jobs which include shelving returned books and organizing books in alphabetical order. It is a pretty
simple job, I know. What's even better about it is that I get to use headphones while doing so. After
getting bored listening to the same music playlist for a couple of hours, I realized that I could listen
to anything I want. One day, I decided to open the podcast app on my iPhone. I wasn't sure what to

Middle School And High School
Growing up I had one favorite class, that class, surprisingly, was English. I was born in Zacatecas,
Mexico on May 9th, 1998 and was brought to the United States at the age of two. When my parents
tried to enroll me into a pre–kindergarten program they were told that it was unnecessary because I
was way beyond my age group. My parents told me that it was from all of the Scooby–Doo shows I
watched growing up. When kindergarten arrived, I was still forced to take an English Learners class
so I could get the best help that I could get to improve my English skills. I remember sitting in that
class watching all the other students have a difficult time pronouncing simple words that they should
be able to say by now. I stayed in that class until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 10th grade I had an English teacher by the name of Mrs. Hurley. The school year started with me
disliking her, I thought she was extremely rude and was just cranky all the time. In her class is
where I read my first Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet she made that unit extremely amusing.
She had us split into families and we would have battles, they consisted of games and quizzes. I was
Lord Capulet and my team won of course. After 10th grade she became my advisory teacher in 12th
grade. She easily became one of my favorite teachers that constantly teased me on my obsession
with Adele. The teacher that made the biggest impact in my life was Mrs. Marn. She was an
extremely caring teacher, she did not like watching her students fail. She made sure that everyone
had everything they needed to be successful. She was, I believe, one of the best English teacher
Brooklyn Center High School has ever had. Her passion for books were out of this world. She talked
about authors as if though she has met them. She reminded me of a hippie in some sorts. She was
very open with us and I was close to her. She was my teacher for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. I read,
The Catcher in The Rye in her class and she tore that book up piece by piece, explaining every
motive and how innocence is huge part of that book. She was my teacher for the college in the
schools' courses that I took. I felt like I failed her in those classes, she expected way more of me and

Stereotypes In High School
Ah, the dreaded report card: letters and numbers in a list; these lines of ink on paper or pixels on
computer screens can cause chaos in the minds of students. Grades, as marks earned for completion,
have the power to change the future of a student and wreak havoc in their minds. Yet the biggest
impact can come when students discuss amongst themselves their grades, and those of others, which
creates a system of stereotypes in high schools.
At academically challenging schools, high–achieving students boast of their successes like scoring
solid As in difficult classes. And as a result, some look to the lesser "smart" students who aim for As
and Bs and treat them with pity and scorn. And then, the tier continues down. The people who make

construction steps are all complete, students can begin the most fun part of woodworking: the
construction. The first step in constructing a unit is framing the project. The frame is the base of the
project, and the rest is added on afterwards. Face framing is the most common, as it is the easiest,
though base framing can also be done. Framing includes connecting rails and verticals at right–angle
intersections, via different connection methods. When framing is completed, then students can begin
adding the other features of the project. The sides, bottoms and tops are the next pieces to be added,
followed by drawers, doors, shelves, or baseboards. Once all the main features are in place, the back
can be added on, and any edges can be routed if the plan calls for it. Afterwards, students can place
all of the hardware including handles, hinges, and knobs onto the project. The project is then
completely constructed, leaving sanding, staining and varnishing to be done. Once the project is
finished, the student can then pay for it and take it home, unless there is a showcase of each student's

The Problem Of High School
High School is one of the most prominent time in one's life. During this time, one is taught to be
financially literate, how to use grammar and punctuations wisely, be mathematically inclined and
aware of different sciences. Notice how I excluded history, but there is a reason for this. History is
often manipulated and told by those who are comfortable telling fabricated stories made up by the
white man. This causes for students, especially African Americans have a false interpretation of their
history and come to college relatively unprepared. ADW and its concepts go into the root of history
without giving out false conceptions, however, it is very unfortunate that it is not taught until one's
young adult years because that is when distorted information is already drilled into their brain. ADW
concepts being taught in high school such as issues of identity; the intersection of race, gender, and
social class; displacement, and conditions of servitude could only lead to the enrichment of the
inquiring minds of this generation, allow them to see relatable circumstances, and help diminish
their ignorance of African history.
Throughout the years, we often deal with different measures of judgment and marginalizing. When a
person has the mentality that they are in fact more supreme than the other regardless of what it is, it
is something that is taught at home. The person who's the victim of inferiority, has the power to
teach the oppressor, but use only factual statements and

Coming To High School
Is the next big step coming? From middle school to high school? To be a successful student in high
school, incoming freshmen need to listen to directions, study and be prepared, and give full effort
best on testing. A successful freshman always follows the directions the first time they are given.
Many teachers like to explain directions only once and so they do not have to say it multiple times.
Teachers do not like to become repetitive with what they are saying and do not want to say the same
thing multiple times. Listening can also keep a student up with everything to include in an
assignment. It is extremely important to receive all the steps for upcoming tests, projects, or other
assignments. This can help attain a high grade in the class. Lastly, it can keep teachers in a good
mood for a class. If the teacher of the class is in a good mood, the class will be much easier for
everyone. Teachers love it when their students follow directions. Listening to directions is an

Tests will include a lot of information that was taught in the class. Classes teach many things at a
time, therefore it is a must that students study and know the information. The material will be much
easier to remember if it is studied. Seeing the information multiple times and outside of the class
will help to remember it and help it to stick to a student's brain, and studying is one of the better
ways to do that. Teachers will always be able to aid students with studying. Study halls, WIN period,
and before or after school would be the greatest times to go in for help with upcoming tests or
assignments. Teachers may be able to help prepare for them. Being prepared for freshman year is

Fitting In High School
High School is a time when many teenagers get into trouble and have many conflicts and struggles.
Without all of the struggles, high school is supposed to be four terrific years. There are many
struggles for teens like peer pressure, managing your time, fitting in, and many more. Most high
schoolers will get pressured by their peers at some point and can cause some serious problems.
About fifty–five percent of students play a high school sport on top of having a job, keeping your
grades up, and just overall having fun, which can be very hard to do. During High school, students
are going to want to not be themselves and want to fit in without being judged by their peers. High

My School For High School
Years have passed and now I have reached Junior High School. I should be happy because of my
"smartness"; I was chosen to go to a special school for student enrichment. However, I am not happy
because the school my mother selected for me is far away from the neighbor, and the school district
where I lived had just built a brand–new school within walking distance from my home; most of my
friends are attending there, and I could not understand why my mother chose to send me across
town. However, my mother enrolled me in a different district, which meant I had to travel either by
city bus or walk. The bus trip would take about an hour and the walk was at least 10–15 miles. My
mother had this brainy idea to enroll me in this school for enrichment; somehow this was supposed
to be good for me. It didn't make sense, nor did I care to share her enthusiasm of starting over in a
new learning environment. I was thrust out my comfort zone and probably would not have protested
as much if the change wasn't so drastic. It'll become clearer what I mean by this. The first day of
school was filled with the normal awkwardness; however, it was also permeated with amplified
anxiety as I realize this school was not in a great neighborhood. Some would call this the hood. I
thought I was attending a school for smart people. Now I am getting the meaning of some of my
early teachings that there are two types of smart; street smart and book smart. I am realizing that

High School: The Early Years
High school is something we all go through, for some people it is a breeze but for others it is their
worst nightmare. For me, high school was a time for me to grow up and learn how to deal with
annoying people. I have had some good memories through my years at Burns Flat–Dill City High
School. I met people who have affected me on a personal level, they helped me realize what would
be the best route to take in a bad situation. I will never forget these experiences I faced. Freshman
year in high school was a weird experience for me, just thinking about finally being an official high
schooler terrified me. Even through all this the senior girls became friends with me and were
extremely nice to me, even when I was too cocky. Sports really helped me grow friendships with
people and create a self–pride in myself. My freshman year we were district campions and that was
the first time in Burns Flat–Dill City history to make it to regionals. We were in the very last game
in regionals and sadly lost out by a ball that was dropped in the outfield. That same year I went to
state in track for the very first time. Through all my sports accomplishments I was ready to take on
my sophomore year. My sophomore year was a pretty relax year academic not really sport wise. Just
like the year before, my softball team made it past districts and on to regionals. But this time we
faced harder competition and we were out in just two games. But when basketball

Going To High School
It was eighth grade year and the time came to decide what school I would be attending for the next
four years at the high school level. At the time, I was attending a small catholic elementary school,
Regina Coeli, where there were only twenty students in my class. There was no high school to
directly advance to from Regina Coeli, once you finished your eighth grade year you split off from
everyone else and were forced to choose the high school in which you would attend. Who knew
going to high school was going to be a significant change for me environmentally and academically.
The majority of my friends that I spent all of my childhood years growing up with decided to go to
Central Catholic or Cardinal Stritch. After I heard that all of my friends were going to attend the
other two schools it made my decision much more difficult. I was stuck between the two and it was
one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make in my life. Ever since I was a kid I had my
mind set that I wanted to attend Whitmer, the reason was no better than because all of my cousins
achieved many goals there and the school knew how to hold an outstanding sporting event.

High School Athletes
During high school, students have the opportunity to play some sort of sport whether it is; soccer,
football, basketball, rugby, cheerleading, and so on. These times are crucial for students because not
only are they signing up to participate in practices and games, but they are signing up to learn how
to balance sports and their academic success. Being involved in a sport allows an individual to be
surrounded by leadership skills and discipline traits, which in return can improve academic success.
Also, a lot of school policies require a certain GPA (grade point average) or a minimum absence
count by the student in order to even play. Therefore, the research question is "does the participation

High Schools : A Critique Of The American High School
A Critique of the American High School
The idea that the American education system requires its students to attend school for a full 13 years
is absurd. The average student does not need 13 years of high school to be prepared for graduation
and college, and those who do require that much attention most likely would not succeed in college
anyways. In the typical high school, students and teachers waste more time focusing on sports and
social issues rather than actual schooling. When one truly realizes how many days are wasted at
sporting events or on silly pep rallies and activities, then it becomes clear why it's a waste to attend
school for such a large amount of time.
High schools in America typically are in session for 9–10 out of 12 total months. Students get the
occasional week–long breaks every so often for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the like. Classes
usually run from approximately 8 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday, with hardly any breaks in
between. An average class can last anywhere from 45 minutes all the way to two hours depending
on the style of school you attend. Most high school aged teens also participate in one, or several
extracurricular activities. The pressure to succeed greatly in these activities can lead a student to let
their life become consumed with a nonstop cycle of school, activity, school, activity, etc.
Sports tend to dominate the high school scene these days. Almost any school you walk through, you
can see several trophies and posters

Oakland High school is located in Tacoma, Washington, whereas, Interlake Senior High school is
located in Bellevue, Washington. These two schools may seem like similar public high schools,
however, they vary significantly. Interlake Senior High school has 1,569 students and a 90%

My High School
When I began high school I couldn't wait for the four years to be over so I would not ever have to
set foot in classroom again. The idea of finishing thirteen years of school was all I could think of. I
knew my parents expected me to finish strong. I knew I would and do my best to finish strong
enough to keep them off my back. The plan seemed simple enough. But, my sixteenth birthday came
during my sophomore year, that is the year everything that I thought I knew changed. My parents let
me know that I needed to earn my own spending money and found me a job. This was the day that I
made a serious change. Of what I thought my future should be.
My freshmen year of high school I did not expect much to change from middle school, just more
work along with unwanted stress of moving on to high school. I had to the wrong attitude going into
my classes. I felt as if the teachers were all against me and they all wanted me to fail or just torture
me. The daily frustration of having to go to school everyday seemed to be unbearable. I tried to fake
being sick or to tired to go to school on a daily basis. All that got me through the seemingly endless
days was the thought of never having to step foot on a school campus again.
All I could focus on was that I was nearing that bright light at the end of the tunnel. I understand that
people may not understand how I got so burned out so quickly when it came to school. What I
believe burned me out so quickly was the pressure. I love my parents

School High School

  • 1. School High School The question that most students possess coming out of high schools usually refers to "what's next" or "what do I want to do with my life?" I think that it is important that people have these questions at their disposal because it forces students to not only evaluate their strengths but also discover what really makes them happy. The reason for this correlates towards people striving to work in an area that makes them happy but also provides them with the money they desired in order for life to be exciting. Whether students consider going to a four–year school straight out of high school or going into the workforce, it should be a decision that fits both their lifestyle and future passion. High schools have definite and solidified purposes when it comes to teaching students. One of the main ideas is that high schools should prepare students for the creativity in the future wherever it may take them. A key message that Ken Robinson stated during his TED TALK was that classes and tests are driven more towards standards and less correlated with the creative aspect, which has been lost. This may be extremely detrimental because creativity allows people to take different paths that best fit their individual characteristics. It allows students to maximize their abilities on assignments and better benefit them. The main reason that I think creativity has diminished within many classes may attribute to the shift towards more of a neoliberal system. Instability within the education ... • 3. High School Sports Are high school sports good for kids? Many people believe that athletic sports are good, but they ignore the fatal flaws of these activities. Youth and high school sports are harmful because athletes often get too caught up in winning and get hurt frequently, physical sports also take away from other extracurricular activities. Although sports aid in the prevention of heart disease and obesity. As the article What in The Name of High School Football? states, "The single greatest factor in preventing the nation's number one killer – heart disease – is regular and vigorous exercise, and that gets my vote." Exercising regularly and keeping a healthy diet can prevent many health–related diseases. But there are many, much less dangerous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same article says, "Based on almost 1,900 injury reports submitted to the RIO, the researchers estimated there were 517,726 football–related injuries during (the) 2005–2006 season at the high school level across the United States. The NCAA system lagged more than 3,500 injuries in its database during the same period." Children become injured in athletic sports more than most other things. Lastly, athletic sports takes away from other extracurricular activities. In What in the Name of High School Football? Hank Hill writes, Yet only a few weeks ago, 16 MVRHS vocalists and instrumentalists auditioned for the competitive All Cape & Islands music festival. And the judges selected a remarkable 16 of 16. Unheard of success. And yet not a mention in the local papers. Not a word on the radio. Not a sentence in the principal's address. Not a squeak on the morning announcements. Not a face on the Wall. The gift of music came wrapped in silence." Athletic sports get so much attention that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. School Bullying And High Schools All across the United States children in schools are going through an unescapable problem presented as bullying found in elementary, middle, and high schools. This issue can affect everyone, those who are bullied, those who bully, and those who witness bullying. School bullying can be taken in two different ways direct and indirect; including name–calling, teasing, malicious rumor spreading, and physical violence. Once thought of a normal part of growing up is now recognized as a serious problem that must be stop at an early age. Among all age groups children between 7 and 12 most often are the main target. Sadly most every kid experiences bullying and as children mature the types of bullies tends to change into more physical aggression. In order to reduce bullying knowing the signs such as torn cloths, missing possessions, requests for extra lunch money, dropping grades, and refusing to go to school can all be indications that a child is being bullied. To prevent children from being harmed by school bullying, professional educators and parents have a duty to understand the complexity of bullying in U.S. schools and take action. Besides disrupting classroom activities, school bullying generally harms children 's ability to learn at school, and has been shown to contribute to truancy and dropout rates. As I look at resources pertaining to this issue the only way to improve bullying is to successfully use a method to form a bullying prevention program. The planning model that ... • 7. High Schoolers And High School Think back to when you were a child. While looking around, you often realize all of your friends playing sports are exceptional at them. You are not the ultimate athlete and honestly don't enjoy sports at all, but you keep playing anyways. All of your friends' play and your parents have always encouraged you to do well in sports and to be the best. You know there are other opportunities out there for you, but you don't feel as popular just being satisfactory in school. In today's world, high schoolers are constantly under pressure to do well in sports, but not necessarily in school. Life lessons, like getting a job or just being an overall good person fly out the window. Central High School focuses too much on athletics instead of academics; this problem can be alleviated through the encouragement of parents to promote academic success and to help set realistic goals. Parents need to promote academic success at every age and no matter what the student is involved in. One of the problems today is that too many kids are overinvolved in activities, not allowing them to have the proper amount of time to finish homework. Children are constantly under the presumption that sports are more important than doing well in school. They work harder in practice than when doing homework. Parents need to help encourage kids to get homework done, excel academically and to gain the right friends. Many kids wind up making friends through sports and then they feel as though if they ... Sleep also affects the health of teens who do not get enough rest. High schools should change their schedules to help students become more advanced in school. High Schools should begin later in the day to accommodate for students to get the natural sleep they really need. Natural sleep clocks would keep them awake during the day. With a natural sleep clock, students can have all the sleep they need to last them through the day. Therefore they would be energized for the day. • 11. Procrastination In High School I can easily say that procrastination was something I struggled with throughout my high school career. It was so easy for me to choose a football game or a night out with friends over studying or doing homework. Even though school work is obviously more important than hanging out with friends, I prioritized my social status. I thought it was the biggest worry in my life, but now that I am in college, I know that my social life must come second to school work. I spent so much time trying to impress people that I haven't spoken a word to since graduation. It is embarrassing to think about how I portrayed myself in high school and how I thought being the top dog was the key to success. Looking back, I wish all the time I wasted thinking about how others viewed me had been spent studying and focusing on school work. Once during my sophomore year of high school, we had our first major project due in biology, a good old–fashioned leaf project. It was due in the middle of September, and fall was in full bloom. Which means the leaves were changing, dying and falling off the tree. For the assignment we were required to collect thirty–two different types of leaves. The leaves had to be in pristine condition, labeled, pressed, and in a scrapbook for the project to be complete. I spent all my time going to football games, soccer games, and involved myself in to many events. I had play practice everyday, got home late and then went straight to bed. I never made time or pushed aside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. High School Athletes Every high school has different social, stereotypical cliches. Throughout various schools, there are "the nerds" who enjoy completing assignments and value high grades, "the loners" that stick to their secluded, individual group, and "the jocks" or athletes that participate in every sport possible. High school athletes dedicate a numerous amount of time to practicing and playing sports. Multi–sport athletes never receive a break between seasons, after one sport concludes the other begins in a matter of days. Some might find athletics to be tiring, never–ending, and consuming to their personal life, but athletics also has tremendous benefits for adolescents. Participating in high school athletics provides numerous health benefits, generates authentic relationships, and builds useful life skills. • 15. Transitioning Into High School The effect of choosing which high school a student will be attending will last longer than the four years. The decision follows the student into college, continuing their habits set in high school. The more basic question is whether they will attend a same sex or co–ed school. The different types of high schools do not only effect the 9–12th grade experience but effects the behavior of students transitioning into college classrooms. "This is a common debate in my house: whether it is helpful to attend same sex high schools or not. My sister attended a same sex school and her college professor noticed before she could tell him. Because of her active participation and constant hand raising, her teacher asked if she attended a single sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "It took me a few years of high school to be comfortable raising my hand in class. I was too scared to ask something dumb, or answer a question wrong that I found myself and other girls asking each other questions before asking the teacher," said Jessica Recker, senior at Perrysburg high school. Many co–ed schools find it necessary to have a talk to males about how to treat female classmates and how to behave themselves while also teachings girls how to properly treat their make classmates. Single sex schools communicate more on how to handle the drama that may occur when putting same sex students together. Transitioning from high school to college is a complex process for students from all schools. It's complexity is rooted not only in choosing the gender of the school but rather the size, environment, distance and other factors that go into determining where these new adults will go for their next four years. Although the college atmosphere is a new feel for all incoming freshmen, the habits and behavior students learn from high school tend to stick with them when they enter classes at universities. The effect of going to a same sex high school can show differently in all students at the start of college. The same goes for co–ed graduating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although I was excited to be cruising down Highway 30 there was one problem we weren't going to be home until the 13th and volleyball practice started on the 11th. High schools are focusing more on sports than any other extra–curricular activity could create serious penalties for missing the first three practices. In a sport you learn to work as a team with the others you see at school every day, in FFA you can meet people and work with a team from all around the U.S. by attending events such as State and National Convention, Washington Leadership Conference, and FFA Competitions. The Northeast FFA Chapter offered the opportunity for 5 sophomores this past summer to go on the Washington Leadership Conference. • 19. High School Cliques In High Schools Any teen movie ever made has successfully pushed the social hierarchal agenda. Look at any John Hughes movie from the 1980's and you'll see a familiar trend. The common stereotypical high school cliques such as the popular crowd, the jocks, and the nerds flashed across the screen. Ever since the inception of films geared towards teenagers, the idea of queen bees and academically inept jocks was reinforced in a negative light. Creating anxieties for middle schoolers around the world. Though these heavy stereotypes do plague many high schools, there are some schools that seem to be exempt from the trend. Studies show the exemption could stem from the size of the school. However, the amount of freedom the students have also made a difference when it comes to social order. Daniel McFarland, a professor of education at Stanford Graduate School of Education, conducted a study monitoring two separate high schools on what causes cliques, and why they occur. McFarland states in his research "Larger schools that offer more choice and variety are most likely to form hierarchies, cliques, and self–segregation, ... In smaller schools, and in smaller classrooms, you force people to interact, and they are less hierarchical, less cliquish, and less self– segregated." His study was conducted in two different high schools over two semesters. He goes on to say, "Schools that offer students more choice – more elective courses, more ways to complete requirements, a bigger range of potential ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Elementary School And High School Class is defined as a group of people who have a similar level of wealth and income. Even though this ideology is more referred to specific individuals regarding their occupation, education can be considered to follow this same description. There are educational institutions everywhere, one elementary school usually in one part of a neighborhood in your hometown. As these schools grown in number and increase in grade level however, less become established and there tend to be a smaller amount of high schools within a city compared to elementary or middle. This means that for every 4 or 5 neighborhoods there is 1 high school that is responsible for accepting these residents. High schools quickly become established in large district areas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How are low income schools different than higher income schools? This is a concerning issue because if there continues to be a financial difference between educational institutions that affects the quality of schools, there will be an entire generation of students that will have received a poor education and have limited opportunities of successfully integrating with society compared to graduates that attained a higher quality education from a higher income school. This decreases social mobility of low income school graduates, continues stratification, and may encourage low income graduates to enact in high risk illegal acts to support themselves and families since they were not properly prepared to be college ready in high school. Low income schools mainly differ from higher income schools through student performance in college preparatory exams and behavioral issues/stigmas. These are the actions taken by a freshman straight out of high school, just about two weeks after her graduation, to fit in to a totally new community. Coming from an all girls school in the upper east side, Berkeley College was and, sometimes still is, a culture shock. My high school only had approximately 200 girls overall and I graduated with only a class of 36 girls, even a class size too small for that school, but Berkeley College has however many campuses stocked with people. This short, thin statured woman walks in, in what appears to be, a disheveled appearance. Getting her to think that I was excited for this class and looked forward to the quarter, although I really didn't, wasn't difficult task, because that only lasted for that second. When I read the papers that had been handed out earlier, I saw the syllabus, a glossary of art terminology, and an ancient Greece fact sheet. • 27. Essay On High Grades In High School As I made the walk into my first hour, geometry, my first day of high school; I thought to myself I would never pass this class, I am a freshman in a sophomore class and I have not been taught any of this before. Nervous and scared about the rest of the day and how hard my classes would be, I looked forward to a year of low grades and failed assignments. However, this was not the case, high school classes were much different then what I had thought. Many teachers were easy on students, gave less homework than I had expected and were lenient on the homework assignments. Much different than what I had expected, I have flown through high school with ease and superior grades. On the other hand, as I begin to take college courses, I have learned that those grades in High School were much easier to obtain and were of less value. High Schools have made it easier to get higher grades, and that in turn, will affect my grades in college. It can be seen strongly at my High School, Oologah High, that students have gotten lazier and parents still expect teachers to hand out better grades. When enrolling and selecting classes; students have the option to select easier, less demanding classes, yet are still rewarded with high grades. Now, instead of taking classes that reward hard work and prepare students for the future, they are able to pass easy classes and receive better scores. • 29. High School Homework Introduction Traditionally, a high school schedule consists of seven or eight class periods, each one lasting 45 to 50 minutes. Since 1964, when Joliet West High School opened its doors, it has used a traditional seven to eight period school day. 53 years later, problems are starting to arise with how the school day is laid out. Recently, students are becoming more involved in sports, jobs, and extracurricular activities, and the traditional schedule is making it harder for students to keep up with the work from seven different classes. This task is especially difficult for students in honors and AP classes. According to Allie Bidwell, an education reporter for U.S. World and News Report, the average high school students spends about eighteen hours a week on homework. That works out to be about four hours every night. In my experience, I average around two hours of homework every night, still a long time spent on homework. At Joliet West, students are released from school at 3:15; if they go home and start their homework right away, all their homework could be completed by eight o'clock. However, a majority of students do not have the luxury of having all night to work on homework. With about half of students participating in a sport, many have practice after school until six o'clock. This pushes back their night, so instead of getting done with homework at eight, they will not finish until ten o'clock. A large portion of high school students experience this ... • 31. Extending High School "High school is like a spork: it's a crappy spoon and a crappy fork, so in the end it's just plain useless." –John Mayer Many people when asked will tell you that high school is pointless except for being essential to gain higher education. No student will tell you that adding two years to their already exhausting four years of high school is a good idea especially if the extra years are going to be exactly like the rest of their high school experience. However if the extra two years are constructed with brand new curriculum and help prepare students efficiently for what is to come in college, then it could be very beneficial. It has become apparent that many students drop out of college within their first year. My principals of business teacher, Mr. Eeg, has told me numerous amounts of time that he has students who return from their "dream" colleges after just one year to instead go to De Anza or Foothill because their college life was too hectic for them. They claim it was too much reading, too much homework, and not enough of an actual life out of school and/or work. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 33. High School Dropouts The issue of high school dropouts is a serious concern for educators, policymakers, and the public. High school dropouts experience numerous adverse consequences in response to an incomplete education. For instance, high school dropouts are more likely to lack the skills necessary for successful employment and further education, to be unemployed, to be welfare recipients, and when employed, to make less money, lack health insurance, suffer health problems, and to be involved in crime on average than their peers who did complete (Belfield & Levin, 2007; Rumberger, 2011; Swanson & Editorial Projects in Education, 2009). High school dropouts are also more likely to suffer from depression or other mental health issues (Rumberger, 2011; Swanson & Editorial Projects in Education, 2009). Additionally, dropouts present numerous challenges at a societal level, including a serious socioeconomic problem, given that most are undereducated and ill–equipped to meet the rapidly advancing technological needs of society's workforce. (Zablocki, & Krezmien, 2012). The issue of dropping out does not happen over–night, rather, it is a decision that occurs throughout the duration of early education. I felt like I wouldn't get along with anyone here in derby so I tried to not speak to anyone and try to just disappear. Luckily that did not last long cause my second day of school here I met amazing people who I got along with and they helped me alot with my struggles. Even though I had those amazing friends I still did not feel like I belonged here. I felt as if I was not needed so I tried to get back to doing school work but it didn't work because I was so used to not doing it and I did not know what we were doing because I stopped paying attention. I finally got back into the swing of things and I tried to get my grades back up. I was mostly successful. I have gotten better at doing my work, I found out she wasn't right for me, and I know I belong here. I am glad I was able to get over most all those trials but this is just the beginning. Honestly I have no idea of what I want to do after I leave high school job wise. I kinda want to go to college, work with computers, get married and have kids. I know those are things that will not happen until a long time from now but I can't wait to see what's next on this crazy train of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. High School To College Transitions from high school to college was one of my stressful adjustment ever. It was all a long process which started in my counselor's office at my high school. Applying for college, getting accepted, tuition and moving on campus. It was definitely a long journey, driving 11 hours from Florida to Alabama was when I realize that I'm going far away from home. First thing I notice when I got at the school was the beautiful buildings and the environment. It looks more different from what I saw online. First day was very busy then I though. I had to go to admission, financial aid, business and housing, making sure all my papers and payments was done before my parent leave to Florida. I honestly thought high school and college will be almost the same, but college is a lot different from what I thought. High school help build my foundation and got me ready for college. On the other hand, college is an institution of higher education. But when all the first day process was done I was happy to get the keys to my room. Almost every freshman had plan to design and organize their room. I was one of those freshmen. I plan to design my dorm room just like my room at my house. Reason because I felt that it will make me more comfortable and feel like home. Without doubt, though, that didn't help, still got home sick like every weekend. I was hoping to get a roommate but my roommate that they assign to my room didn't show up. So, I had the room to myself. Although my hope for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. School Experience In High School As a small child in elementary school, I can remember the anticipation of unstructured recess that followed our daily lunch routine. Ordinarily, the bell for lunch would ring. The teacher would line everyone up and that is when the excitement would erupt. Immediately the chatter of little voices commenced among the students as they collaborated with their peers about what they desired to conquer first. At that very moment imaginations exploded! Were to begin? Would be the question on everyone's mind. Where would the perfect place to meet up with your friends be? Would it be the luxurious field full of dandelions? Or the merry–go–rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, jump ropes, the possibilities were endless. The instant lunchtime was over the teachers would open the portal to a wondrous world of whimsical delight: The Playground! Instantly the deafening sound of screeching chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor would erupt. Followed simultaneously with the rumble of wild, uncontrollable energy bursting through the cafeteria doors. Students scattered uncontrollably; running competitively to their previously discussed desired positions. FREEDOM a time to run wild with no cares, no worries, a time to jump, and holler. A time to enjoy being a kid. A time to appreciate being with friends. A measure of time with limited restrictions unstructured recess. However, not all students get to complete their high school and continue on to a college. Completing high school and getting a degree from college is the ticket to a better lifestyle. As we look around us, people are still living and paying off their bills even as dropouts from high school. However, they are living at a hand–to–mouth situation. • 49. Stereotypes In High School High school is full of a variety of types of people, who can all be labeled into certain groups or stereotypes. High school can be an amazing time for people, just as easily as it could be a terrible time for people. It's quite odd how everyone goes to the same school, and mostly attend the same courses, yet they are significantly different from one another. Every school has the classic jocks, nerds, partiers/stoners, etc., but it appears our generation has created several new stereotypes. With students spending approximately 35 hours a week at school, it is easy for one another to label each other, and determine who they "fit in" with. The most common stereotype in Spring Lake is the "Preppy Rich Kid." The "Preppy" part of these kids is that they love to wear a perfectly matching outfit; including their colorful Polo Shirts/t–shirts, colorful short–shorts, matching socks, with a matching pair of boat–shoes/skate–shoes. The "Rich" part of these kids is that they live in a big house on the water, their parents have high–paying jobs, and their parents will buy them whatever they desire. These kids typically drive an expensive foreign car, usually blaring rap music out of their car's subwoofer everyday to school. Once they have arrived at school, most of them have a very enjoyable day. For the most part, they have a perfect life, including getting all the girls/boys, receiving good grades, being attractive, and being a phenomenal athlete. These kids are likable people, and ... • 51. School Day In High School The school bell rings at 2:50 indicating the end of the school day. I race out of my AP Chemistry class and head straight for my car parked across the street from the high school. Within four minutes, I'm pulling out of the parking lot and heading north on McHenry Avenue. As I drive as "efficiently" as possible, I scan the street for any dangers. I approach the only stoplight on this relatively short journey and I pray that it's green. Luckily, it almost always is. I continue up the street for a few more blocks and pull into the parking lot of the public library at 2:58. I put the car in park, turn it off, open the glove department and grab my earbuds, and take the water bottle from my backpack. I sprint up the stairs, into the Youth Department, and straight to the carts of books to be put away. Within seconds, my earbuds are in, the podcast app is open, and I'm pulling a cart of books over to the Junior Non–Fiction section. Every Thursday, Friday, and sometimes Tuesday afternoon I work at my local public library in the Youth Department after school. I have two primary jobs which include shelving returned books and organizing books in alphabetical order. It is a pretty simple job, I know. What's even better about it is that I get to use headphones while doing so. I was born in Zacatecas, Mexico on May 9th, 1998 and was brought to the United States at the age of two. • 59. The Problem Of High School High School is one of the most prominent time in one's life. During this time, one is taught to be financially literate, how to use grammar and punctuations wisely, be mathematically inclined and aware of different sciences. Notice how I excluded history, but there is a reason for this. History is often manipulated and told by those who are comfortable telling fabricated stories made up by the white man. This causes for students, especially African Americans have a false interpretation of their history and come to college relatively unprepared. ADW and its concepts go into the root of history without giving out false conceptions, however, it is very unfortunate that it is not taught until one's young adult years because that is when distorted information is already drilled into their brain. ADW concepts being taught in high school such as issues of identity; the intersection of race, gender, and social class; displacement, and conditions of servitude could only lead to the enrichment of the inquiring minds of this generation, allow them to see relatable circumstances, and help diminish their ignorance of African history. Throughout the years, we often deal with different measures of judgment and marginalizing. I should be happy because of my "smartness"; I was chosen to go to a special school for student enrichment. However, I am not happy because the school my mother selected for me is far away from the neighbor, and the school district where I lived had just built a brand–new school within walking distance from my home; most of my friends are attending there, and I could not understand why my mother chose to send me across town. However, my mother enrolled me in a different district, which meant I had to travel either by city bus or walk. The bus trip would take about an hour and the walk was at least 10–15 miles. My mother had this brainy idea to enroll me in this school for enrichment; somehow this was supposed to be good for me. It didn't make sense, nor did I care to share her enthusiasm of starting over in a new learning environment. I was thrust out my comfort zone and probably would not have protested as much if the change wasn't so drastic. It'll become clearer what I mean by this. My freshman year we were district campions and that was the first time in Burns Flat–Dill City history to make it to regionals. We were in the very last game in regionals and sadly lost out by a ball that was dropped in the outfield. That same year I went to state in track for the very first time. Through all my sports accomplishments I was ready to take on my sophomore year. My sophomore year was a pretty relax year academic not really sport wise. • 73. High Schools : A Critique Of The American High School A Critique of the American High School The idea that the American education system requires its students to attend school for a full 13 years is absurd. The average student does not need 13 years of high school to be prepared for graduation and college, and those who do require that much attention most likely would not succeed in college anyways. In the typical high school, students and teachers waste more time focusing on sports and social issues rather than actual schooling. When one truly realizes how many days are wasted at sporting events or on silly pep rallies and activities, then it becomes clear why it's a waste to attend school for such a large amount of time. High schools in America typically are in session for 9–10 out of 12 total months. Students get the occasional week–long breaks every so often for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the like. Classes usually run from approximately 8 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday, with hardly any breaks in between. An average class can last anywhere from 45 minutes all the way to two hours depending on the style of school you attend. Most high school aged teens also participate in one, or several extracurricular activities. The idea of finishing thirteen years of school was all I could think of. I knew my parents expected me to finish strong. I knew I would and do my best to finish strong enough to keep them off my back. The plan seemed simple enough. But, my sixteenth birthday came during my sophomore year, that is the year everything that I thought I knew changed. My parents let me know that I needed to earn my own spending money and found me a job. This was the day that I made a serious change. Of what I thought my future should be. My freshmen year of high school I did not expect much to change from middle school, just more work along with unwanted stress of moving on to high school.
