Individual Project: Strategic Response Paper
Objective: To increase awareness of strategic human resource issues.
An opportunity to discuss organizational responses to strategic HR
issues. Plan appropriate individual responses to strategic HR issues.
Be able to use the appropriate measurements for the response of the
HR issue.
Process: Select an HR issue.
o What HR issues need to be addressed more in your workplace?
Develop one or more responses to the HR issue.
o How will this response be implemented?
o Determine what measurement(s) will be used in conjunction with
your response.
o What support will you need? Present the plan.
o Explain how the plan will affect the bottom line.
o ROI Defend the plan.
Each student, acting as an internal consultant(s), will
examine/analyze/address at least one HR
2. process/activity/issue in an actual organization where one of the
student works (in my case
“UPS”- United Parcel Service). The edited paper should be 10-15
pages, double-spaced (not
including tables, charts, reference page, title page, etc.). Font used
must be Times New Roman
12 pt., with 1-inch margins.
The format of your paper should be as follows:
Abstract
Table of Contents
Introduction of the company
Summary of the issues/problems facing the company
Evaluation method to include interviews, questionnaires, data
collected, etc.
Detailed description of the HR program to be designed and
implemented.
Overall program benefits, to include the ROI for the organization
Conclusion
References
Paper must be written according to APA style and be carefully
referenced. Your
abstract will be included in your page count.
Appropriate references: This is also a library research paper, as you
must have
empirical and practitioner evidence of the HR program you group
plans to implement.
3. You may also use other companies as a benchmark; therefore this too
must be cited
correctly in accordance to APA. You must use at least 8 different
sources, not including
textbooks. At least 5 of these sources must be published journal
articles; the others may be organizational websites, government
websites, or other reputable Internet sources.
(You may use textbooks and other books if you have more than 8
sources.)
Be sure to use published journal articles as your sources, not less-
reliable
Internet web sites. Reference your paper very carefully and tightly.
Appropriate source
journals include (among others) HR Magazine, Academy of
Management Perspectives,
Personnel Journal, Fortune, Human Resource Management, SAM
Advanced
Management Journal, Journal of Management, HR Focus, Human
Resource
Development Quarterly, The Journal of Applied Management and
Entrepreneurship, The
Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, and Organizational
Dynamics. You
may use the company’s website, but do so sparingly and remember
that what a
company has on their own website may be positively biased in their
favor.
Appearance, punctuation, grammar, neatness, and spelling, count.
This must be a
4. professional looking paper to receive full credit. Your paper should
have an introduction,
body, conclusion, and reference section, as well as appropriate
headings and sub-headings
in the body of the paper, as per APA. Be sure to use the required title
page. A Table of
Contents must be included which lists each heading and names the
person who
wrote that section as well as the beginning page number for that
section. Write
transition sentences between sections so that the reader knows where
you are going and
why. Avoid all first person pronouns and personal opinion.
Academic integrity is of the utmost importance in this term paper.
Your paper will be
submitted through turnitin.com, which will document any plagiarism,
intentional or
unintentional. See more details under VIII in the syllabus.
Review the grade rubric that will be used as a guide for the term
paper. Note that any
evidence of plagiarism will override the rubric and result in a
minimum penalty of a
zero on the paper.
