MEEP: Mapping Educational Ecosystems Project aims to help solve one of today’s biggest challenges — how to build learning institutions that work for people at all stages of life, from birth until natural death. Our community learning labs are spaces where people come together to share strategies for educational transformation.
Goals of Community Learning Lab:
* Introduce future mapping as a method for shaping educational change.
* Create a space for community education: we are teaching each other and also learning in new ways through these sessions.
* Be real and open to change. Today’s work is timely and likely too fast-paced. The real work of educational transformation will happen when we integrate future thinking into our daily lives and teaching practice.

3. Introduction
The Mapping Educational Ecosystems Project (MEEP)
aims to help solve one of today’s biggest challenges — how
to build learning institutions that work for people at all
stages of life, from birth until natural death.
today’s goals:
● Introduce future mapping as a method for shaping
educational change.
● Create a space for community education.
● Be real & open to change.
4. Conocimiento
Spanish for personal knowledge, conocimiento involves
people forming learning circles to build personal
connections & exchange knowledge on more equal terms.
Goals:
● Meet some of the many people in the room.
● Welcome the diverse ways of seeing people as fully
human.
● Explore the linguistic & cultural differences of people in
the room – us.
5. Trends & Forces
Future mapping involves identifying the trends,
challenges, & opportunities that are shaping society. Here,
we’ll map some of the many forces currently driving
educational change.
Goals:
● Identify trends & forces shaping education’s future.
● Focus on 1. human diversity, 2. local learning
institutions, & 3. the internet.
● Specify time horizons for these trends & forces.
7. Opportunities & Challenges
Many human experiences & perspectives shape the future
of education. In this activity, we’ll focus on the needs &
goals of multiple players in the system (e.g. teachers,
families, technologists, & policymakers).
Goals:
● Name some of the rising trends, forces, opportunities &
challenges shaping education’s future.
● See education from multiple perspectives.
● Emphasize the role & work of educators in this process.
8. Personal Roles & Actions
In this activity, we’ll engage in personal reflection, set
goals, and identify concrete actions we can take to pursue
educational change.
Goals:
● Make proactive choices about your needs & goals in the
changing systems of education.
● Brainstorm concrete steps & strategies to take for moving
from vision to action.
● Put your goals on the map to move forward on creating a
better future for education.
9. Community Reflection
In our last activity, we’ll share our insights and engage in
community reflection.
Goals:
● Reflect on future mapping as a method for deeper
learning and social change.
● Share our goals and steps for realizing educational
transformation.
● Evaluate today’s activities and facilitation.
10. so long, & thanks for all the smarts!
The real work of educational transformation happens
daily. It isn’t a workshop, a book, a blog, or a paradigm.
It’s a shared process.
