responsible for the displacement of families who can't afford to live in the gentrified area anymore due to the price of rent being dramatically

and redemption throughout the novel. This theme is present alongside with other minor themes like the shift of American culture, and how the
characters self–centered ways are crush by time. All of the major characters will find themselves at some sort of low point in their lives throughout

With the release of Leaves of Grass, a new form of poetry is born. This form defies convention in presentation and subject matter. The compilation of
poems did not get the immediate attention and recognition Whitman had hoped for due this defiance. Although it was championed by several famous
poets, especially Ralph Waldo Emerson, it would take many years for the works to become successful. The explicit sexual theme in Whitman's works
is the chief source of the delayed recognition Leaves of Grass eventually receives. "Leaves of Grass was probably more notorious for its sexual
explicitness than admired for its poetic qualities" (Nathanson 400). Whitman initially incorporated the sexual theme into two articles for the Brooklyn
paper. Whitman was forced to resign "because of the indignation of some of his readers" (Asselineau 107). This fueled his desire to teach the general
population that sex is universal and should be embraced without fear and anxiety. "The body, he teaches, is beautiful. Sex is also beautiful" (Whitman

The next unethical incident that occurred at PC during my here happened early on in my second semester of sophomore year where three black
students reported beer bottles being thrown at them and claimed that they were being targeted after being denied entry into an off campus party. The
United States government describes racial/color discrimination as, "Treating someone unfavorable because he/she is of a certain race or because of
personal characteristics associated with race such as hair texture, skin color, or certain facial features" (U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission). There are numerous amounts of moral values that are thought to be universal throughout the campus of PC and racial discrimination is
far from being considered ethical. After the investigation went underway, Jim Vincent and the rest of Providence NAACP Branch got involved and
wanted to put an end completely to any form of racism. Professor Julia Jordan–Zachary, Director of Black Studies at PC, spoke with GoLocal
Providence about the incident and said, "If we're now 'investigating" what happened, historically speaking investigation at PC of racial biases don't go
well. Nothing happens. There's a deep history. Talk to alumni, this isn't new" (GoLocal Providence). The professor went on to say that a couple of
years ago students were called, "N*****" on campus and nothing happened because the kids who supposedly said this foul language apparently said
something else. The investigation appeared to be thorough, but the outcome of the off–campus incident showed no progress as there was not enough
concrete factual evidence to pin point the main culprits and PC failed yet again to give any serious sanctions to anyone.

"To Brooklyn Bridge" was directly inspired by T.S. Eliot's "The Wasteland" and Walt Whitman's "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry," but the poem itself
does not contain words or phrases that directly correlate to those specific poets and their respective poems. Instead, the overall atmosphere of the
poem may remind readers of Eliot and Whitman. First of all, once again according to the anthology, "To Brooklyn Bridge" is a hopeful reply to "The
Wasteland," where Eliot writes of a fractured world, a perspective Crane shares, but his response paints a more optimistic picture. Crane accomplishes
this by "using the Brooklyn Bridge as its prime symbol... to restore meaning and unity to a fragmented and dissonant modern world" (Axelrod 626).
The Bridge is a manmade effort that is capable of connecting the fragmented world. This hope is also reminiscent of Whitman's ideas of an idealistic
and unified America. Yet, a more significant influence from Whitman is the theme of repressed homosexuality that is present in the poem. With both
poets being homosexual, it is no surprise that Crane was influenced by Whitman. The second to last stanza
