refers to energy sources
other than fossil fuels
(such as coal,
petroleum, and diesel)
and includes all
renewable and nuclear
energy sources.

5. What is wind energy?
• Wind power is energy, such as
electricity, that is generated
directly from the wind.
It is considered a renewable
energy source because there is
always wind on the Earth and
we aren't "using up" the wind
when we make energy from it.
• Wind power also does not
cause pollution.

6. ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
• It requires only wind to work.
• Excellent alternative to fossil fuels.
• Renewable and clean source of energy.
• Low operating costs.
• Produces no greenhouse gas emissions during
operation.
• Wind turbines are space efficient. It uses very less
land in contrast to solar power plants. Farmers can
also rent their property for wind farms and still
continue to farm the land.
• Can be used to supply electricity to remote areas.
• It is a fluctuating source of energy. Wind is not
predictable. Some days may have a lot of wind and
others may have no wind at all.
• Electricity from wind energy must be stored.
• Wind turbines are potential threat to wildlife such as
birds and bats.
• Deforestation to set up wind turbines create and
environmental impact.
• Creates noise.
