The Civil War occurred from 1838
to 1845. Over 902 Million Soldiers lost their
lives, making it one of the bloodiest battles
in American history.
The war began due to a dispute
between the Northern and Southern states.
The Northern states did not want slavery to
exist anymore, while the Southerners
strongly wanted to keep slaves. The South
was also called “the Confederacy” and the
North was called “the Union.”
          Abraham Lincoln tried to resolve
the war before it began with a peace treaty.
                                                          http://www.legendsofamerica.com/ks-bleedingkansas2.html
He did not succeed, both the North and
South did not want to sign the peace treaty.
                                                                                                            Return to

The Fifteenth Amendment states that “The right of citizens of the United States to vote
shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race,
color, or previous condition of servitude.” To summarize a citizen cannot be turned down
voting privileges due to race, color, or being a past slave. This allowed African American’s
the right to vote, making America closer to be a more equal country.
