Industry
The global leather goods market size was valued at USD 414.0 billion in 2017
and is anticipated to progress at a CAGR of 5.4% in the coming years.
Leather working has been around for nearly 400,000 years.
The need for leather skyrocketed during the Industrial Revolution in the early 1800’s.
The world’s leading countries for leather goods manufacturing include China, India, Brazil, Vietnam and Italy
World’s top leather products companies: Christian Dior, Kering, Hermes International,
Compagnie Financiere Richemont Sa, Prada.
4. Tannerie

Tanning is the process of treating skins and hides of animals to produce leather.
A tannery is the place where the skins are processed.
Ancient civilizations used leather for waterskins, bags, harnesses
and tack, boats, armor, quivers, scabbards, boots, and sandals.
The tanning process is generally 25 steps,
among which they can vary greatly
in chosen method, chemicals used, and time involved.
The waste water generated by the tanning industry
are the potential sources of pollution as it contains
large values of organic and inorganic chemical elements.
