Disambiguation / Self Identification in Asia Pacific
ORCID
• In Korea, China and India there is a greater prevalence of shared names
• In Indonesia people may have single names
• When translated Asian names can become merged in the Roman alphabet
• Research published in native languages will have names represented in
that native language – how do you self identify papers written in a native
language as well as those written / translated into English.
• Are You Kim, Lee, or Park? ORCID in Asia Pacific https//info.orcid.org/are-
you-kim-lee-or-park-orcid-in-asia-pacific/
• Attention science: some people have only one name. Registration forms,
grant applications and publishing all create hurdles for single-name
researchers. A culturally sensitive approach is needed.
