aim is to aid in preserving and maintaining healthy ecosystems throughout Scotland's land and seas.
Possil Marsh is one of such wildlife reserves, located in the north of Glasgow. Ecology and
Conservation students from the University Glasgow visited the reserve on Friday the 14th of
October 2016. The intention of this excursion was for students to see first–hand the variety of

acres, Possil marsh contains a large quantity and variety of habitats to support the inhabiting species.

with areas of willow scrub and grassland. The fen and swamp areas support locally rare plants

officials think so, pointing to the proposed policy change that could make it harder for wildlife to

All that is known at this moment is what current literature work say in relation to the approximately
16000 endangered species (Panda, 2013). However, I do not intend to focus on such a large number
of animals. Therefore, I will narrow down my investigation to focus on blue whale, polar bear, tiger
and the mountain gorilla. Despite the fact that these animals are few, their number is significantly
reducing and something needs to be done in order to save them. Another issue that I wish to
investigate if the extermination of these five species of animals is likely to affect our very existence
as humans.

Hasn't the world lost enough? Animals are harmed by letting nature take its course, meaning climate
changes, deforestation, etc. Human poaching is a major contributor also. "Extinctions have occurred
throughout our planet's natural history. Some species develop as others die out, making space in the
ecosystem for those best suited to any given habitat's natural conditions. Long before human beings
arrived, fossil records show that populations of animals evolved, thrived, declined, and became

of extinction, the IUCN, The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources,
has evaluated 65,518 species. Of the total species included, 20,219 are listed as threatened, up from
19,570 in 2011. Poaching and a disappearing habitat due to human encroachment are considered the
primary threats to these and other species (Sexton)." If humans are destroying animals habitats,
causing them to be threatened or endangered then why don 't Conservationists put an end to the
destruction of their habitats. If trees need to be cut down to say build a house then conservationists
need to be required to survey the area for species that could be harmed or killed before any
construction or destruction is performed. Sometimes you get too much rain, which means floods. At
other times there isn 't enough, which means drought. Both are dangerous. We can 't do anything
about the climate changing and the weather changing, it 's nature taking its ' course. When the
climate changes excessively, species begin to die out because their habitats eventually are destroyed.
Habitats are destroyed due to glaciers melting or it being too hot or too cold.When the climate
changes and melts the glaciers, then the water temperature increases

From the beginning of time, there has always been wildlife. The animals and plants of our wildlife
contribute to what makes this life so interesting. If all wildlife were to go extinct, then we would not
have a way to replenish the oxygen to survive off of. All animals and plants are a part of our
lifecycle and should be respected as such.
The Endangered Species Act (ESA) was put in place to protect threatened and endangered animals
and plants. There are two agencies that equip this program, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
(FWS) and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This act was dated

The Endangered Species Preservation Act of 1966 authorized the Secretary of Interior to spend $15
million per year to purchase habitats for the species on the endangered list. This act also required
protection of these species on federal land. All land belonging to the public that was not government
was not required but were encouraged to. Many benefits have come from these law acts that have
been set in place. Recovery plans have been put into place to help our animals and plants replenish.
While doing this, exemptions can and do occur. If there is a project to be done within a habitat of a
listed species, then the ESA must notify the FWS and National Marine Fisheries Service. Once
listed species reached a level of stable existence again, they were delisted. As of 2011, fifty–one
species had been delisted. Any kind of harming, wounding, or killing is considered to be a violation.
Violations of these laws have a variety of penalties. The maximum fine is up to $50,000 or a year of
imprisonment, possibly both. I do absolutely believe this law has improved our societies and
environments due to helping original life to be sustained. These animals and plants were created to
be on this earth. They did not choose to be here and did not choose to be killed for human pleasure.
This law has given these listed species another chance.
