3. The number of girls trafficked in
Hawaii each year is in the thousands.
It is a $150 billion USD industry.
Tourists are a big contributing factor
to trafficking, specifically sex
trafficking.
4. This is a horrible problem,
and there are people fighting
it.
6. Their model is unique because they train
professionals to respond to trafficking
and strive for policy change. They also
help businesses stay away from slavery
supply chains.
8. They specialize in assisting
the prosecution of traffickers
and help represent survivors
in court proceedings.
9. Not For Sale Campaign
Social Intervention, Research & Development,
Sociable Ventures
10. They research the economy in areas where sex/human trafficking
is most prevalent and work with entrepreneurs to boost the
economy there. This give the victims jobs, and also helps people
go to the right places to find work.
11. I really liked Not For
Sale’s approach and think
it would be beneficial in
Hawaii
12. Hawaii has a
very high cost of
living, which
makes providing
necessities
difficult
13. Lots of people who get caught in Human
Trafficking (specifically sex trafficking) do
not know how to sustain an income
without doing what they did in captivity,
or they become trapped in trafficking
because they were looking for a way to
support themselves and their families.
14. Not For Sale’s approach (coupled with
providing education on the subject and
support to law enforcement) I think would
be most beneficial in Hawaii. It would
help the victims re-enter society, and it
would help prevent people from getting
trafficked.
