The Evolution Of Oled Displays
In the modern era of Graphical Display Technology, there has been a rapid advancement. With arise
of CRTs; there came an existence for the world of displays. Soon after, various research and
development in the field of displays gave the cutting edge technologies such as LCDs, LEDs, and
Plasma Displays. In such scenario, a display ability to produce deep, dark blacks and crisper colors
are arguably the most important factor in achieving excellent picture quality. Deeper blacks allows
for higher contrast and richer colors, and thus a more realistic and dazzling image. When it comes to
black levels, OLED reigns as the undisputed champion. OLEDS stands for Organic Light Emitting
Diodes. OLEDs are solid–state devices composed of thin films of ... Show more content on

The proposed mechanism was field– accelerated electron excitation of molecular fluorescence.
Roger Partridge made the first observation of electroluminescence from polymer films at the
National Physical Laboratory in the United Kingdom. The device consisted of a film of poly (N–
vinylcarbazole) up to 2.2 micrometers thick located between two charge–injecting electrodes. The
results of the project were patented in 1975 and published in 1983. The first practical OLEDs:
American physical chemist Ching W. Tang and Steven Van Slyke at Eastman Kodak built the first
practical OLED device in 1987.This device used a two–layer structure with separate hole
transporting and electron transporting layers such that recombination and light emission occurred in
the middle of the organic layer; this resulted in a reduction in operating voltage and improvements
in efficiency. 3. Evolution: The discovery of the electroluminescence in organic crystals by Martin
Pope and his research group in 1963 has opened a new era, especially in the field of OLEDs.
However, the development of organic electroluminescence based devices is very slow due to the
requirement of high voltage as well as for low efficiency. About 29 years ago, in 1987, Ching W.
Tang and Steve Van Slyke have discovered the first efficient light–emitting device based

Mendrik: An Excerpt From 'The Third Hell'
The Third Hell
Mendrik the Elven Wizard soared high above the treetops of Merothrax Isle; he was searching for
the mouth of a gilded cave atop the frigid cliffs of Misery's Peak. The cave was once the prized lair
of Merothrax the Greedy, a young white dragon who passed away when a devious necromancer
fooled him into giving up his soul for eternal wealth. The reason Mendrik was headed up this frigid
mountain range was because he was to meet up with his comrades, Eberk and Sashir, to see if they
had any luck in finding work. The three of them were skilled adventurers who travelled across land
and sea to find people who were in need of their skills. At last Mendrik found the glowing entrance
to Merothrax's cherished haunt, Eberk the Dwarven Cleric ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He was long dead, but hanging from his neck was an amulet with the symbol of Phlégethos

of all good and evil!?" "The very same" he murmured. Sashir stared at them with his eyes wide
open, "Mendrik, did you say his robes were a dark red and black?" Mendrik slowly nodded. "I've
heard of this cult before, they summon demons and undead creatures to wreak havoc wherever they
go. They call themselves Illuminati, for they believe that they have been enlightened by their foul
diet and wish to kill those who don't follow him." "Mendrik, do you have any idea of their
whereabouts?" inquired Eberk. "Not an exact location, but I found a map tattooed on his arm leading
to a dark temple far east from here," replied Mendrik. "The Temple of The Nine Hells," whispered
Sashir. "Its origins are unknown, but it predates the entire island and according the legend. Eberk
solemnly eyed his friends "If we don't stop them now the world we know will cease to exist." "Then
what are we waiting for? We shall smite our foes and return in victory," declared

Why Is Santiago Important In The Alchemist
The Alchemist In Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist; Santiago's intelligence, determination, and love all
help him on his journey. These characteristics were developed by people that came into his life at
the right time. Intelligence helped him to understand the soul of the world. His unbreakable will
motivated him to whatever he had to do in order to achieve his personal legend. Fatima, the girl he
loved, gave him the necessary love and support that he needed in order to continue on his journey.
Without the intelligence, determination, and love that Santiago possessed, his journey would have
been much more difficult than it was. Intelligence helped Santiago to understand many different
subjects, but the most important being learning about the soul ... Show more content on

Santiago fell in love with a girl named Fatima at the oasis, 'At that moment, it seemed to him that
time stood still, and the Soul of the World surged within him. When he looked in to her dark eyes,
and saw that her lips were poised between a laugh and silence, he learned the most important part of
the language that all the world spoke–the language that everyone on earth was capable of
understanding in their heart. It was love.' (Coelho 92). Santiago loved Fatima so much that he didn't
want to leave her. The alchemist reminded Santiago that Fatima is a woman of the desert and she
will be there when he came back from finding his treasure. Finding Fatima gave Santiago the love

Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Summary
Langston Hughes wrote the poem "Mother to Son" in December of 1922. This poem is not only an
excellent piece of work; it is a life lesson for all of us to learn about.
I believe that this poem is important because this mother lays life out for her son instead of making
him believe that life is a ray of sunshine. It pretty much starts out with "Life for me ain't been no
crystal stair" in line two. The "crystal stair" is the way people look at you. During this time period, it
was not uncommon that people looked you up and down for the way you dressed, or your common
lifestyle. It is sad to say that still today we treat one another just the same. In the world we live in I
do not blame this mother for not wanting her son to grow up in a bubble of a life, to realize that ...

Even when your life is "Bare" you can still keep going even if that means going alone. As the
mother said, "For I'se still goin' honey" (7) (18). This poem expresses the hardships of routine life
for many common people, but at the time this was composed it was not usual to hear about anyone's
struggles even if it were common knowledge. Langston Hughes wanted the readers to learn that it is
ok to struggle because everyone does it, believe it or not. He wanted everyone to take from this
experience in "Mother to Son" to show that struggles in life are not to hold you back, but only to
make you try harder. Hughes says in lines nine through thirteen "I'se been a–climbin' on, And
reachin' landin's, and turnin' corners, and sometimes goin' in the dark. So boy, don't you turn back".
This portion of the poem really stands out to because I can turn it around and relate it to college and
the point of life I am at. I am a sophomore living away from home struggling to stay above water
with schoolwork, managing work hours, and keeping a

Mirrors In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
The Role of Mirrors as a Symbol in Fahrenheit 451
Most people walk past a mirror ordinarily, without thought. In Fahrenheit 451, people don't know
who they are and never see their reflections. The government acts as a barrier between its people
and who they can be, Montag was chosen to be a fireman solely based on his appearance like all
before him. Ray Bradbury uses mirrors as the most important symbol in this story to show the reader
that looking within themselves they can create a future of their own.
The people in the government are told their exact future and blinded by technology to do the bidding
of society. People like mildred are convinced that the life they are living is the only future for them,
the crystal ball of the government distorts who they really are and keeps them from their true selves.
Millie was brainwashed by the "parlor walls" and forgot things like how she and her husband met.
They don't see their real identity until they are on death's door and are terrified. "He saw her leaning
towards the shimmering walls of color...imagined the he saw or felt the walls go dark in Millie's
face, heard her screaming..she saw her real face there instead of a crystal ball." (Pg. 159) They need

Muppet Magic
February 23, 2010
The Dark Crystal Film Analysis Making its debut 1982, The Dark Crystal, created and directed by
puppeteers Jim Henson and Frank Oz, was a fantasy film that involved intricate puppeteers and
animatronics. Aside from The Muppets and Sesame Street, which involves more comedic skits to
relay their message to its viewers, The Dark Crystal was a different kind of muppet movie because it
used fantasy, fiction and action to tell its story. With this change in Jim Henson's usual way of story
telling, the fantasy aspect of the movie becomes associated with the narrative patterns and functions
of Propp. As the story line progresses throughout the film, some of the 31 ... Show more content on

Later in the film, both Jen and Kira arrive at the Castle of the Crystal but is encountered by
Chamberlain again. This is significant because although Chamberlain attempts to deceive them
again, he ends up capturing Kira, forcing Jen and Chamberlain to "join in direct combat", exhibiting
the sixteenth function of Propp. This demonstrates an aspect of one of the struggles a hero has to
face in his or her journey. As Jen attempts to rescue Kira, he finds the location of the "dark crystal",
bring him one step closer in achieving his quest. The final challenge is presented when Jen is on top
of the "dark crystal" and after a failed attempt, resulting in the death of Kira, Jen succeeds in the end
by uniting the shard with the "dark crystal" fulfilling the prophecy and restoring the planet to its
previous state. Thus showing the final function of Propp: resolution of the task. All these functions
create the structure of Henson's fantasy movie and helps tell a story that keeps its viewers wanting to
know what is going to happen next. With Henson using these narrative patterns and intricately
designed puppets to tell a story to children, it provides a change from laughter and comedy to
something filled with excitement and suspense. In doing so, it gives children a chance to enter a
different dimension and maximize their ability to imagine. Fairytales and fantasies have existed to
tell children's stories because of their ability to bring a child

Descriptive Essay On Light And Dark
Light and dark, good and evil, right and wrong, everything comes in opposing pairs. Similarly, how
I view myself and the world comes in two opposite forces: a light happy view, and a dark sad view.
When either mindset takes over, my mind morphs into a landscape that I imagine myself residing in.
Each landscape makes me feel different. The light makes me confident and happy while the dark
makes me self conscious and depressed. These images of dark and light transform and clash in my
head, changing my attitude and mood. Whenever I boast a positive mindset, I imagine my mind
forming into a dazzling jungle blanketed in radiant light. Across the land, luscious trees draped in a
shawl of dark green vines tower high in the sky. In the heart of the jungle a calm river with crystal
waters meanders through patches of exotic flowers. The smell of sweet flowers wafts through the
warm air, and birds chip freely in the trees. As I walk through the forest, a sense of calm washes
over me. Warmth from the sun graces my skin while I lay in a ... Show more content on

rain and booming thunder forms in the darkness. Puddles of dark water form on the scorched earth.
No form of life inhabits the bleak land. In the middle of it all, I stand defeated. The freezing rain
strikes my skin like bullets and wind gusts blow me to the ground. With every flash of lightning my
fears and worries shine before my eyes bringing the bitter taste of failure to my mouth. Every detail
about this dark place casts me into a dejected state. I form a bad view of the world and myself as I
succumb to all negative thoughts brought with the mindset. Despite feeling like I may never escape

Solar Energy
Our world has been in existence for billions of years and throughout all those years we have used
the sun for basic energy needs. So why not be able to harness that energy and use it to power things
like our homes or our cars? Many scientist have been developing alternate forms of energy called
"Green Energy." Green power is the solution to creating a cleaner, sustainable energy system.
Renewable energy––power from the sun, wind, plants, and moving water––is a natural way to meet
our energy needs and protect the environment. Here are some forms of green energy:
• Wind energy converts the power available in moving air into electricity. Wind power does not
produce air emissions, generate solid waste, or use water.
• Biomass is energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
• the need for non polluting and silent sources of electricity; eg tourist sites, caravans and campers
• the need for a convenient and flexible source of small amounts of power; eg calculators, watches,
light meters and cameras;
• the need for renewable and sustainable power, as a means of reducing global warming.
Together, these needs have produced a growing market for photovoltaics which has stimulated
innovation. As the market has grown, the cost of cells and systems has declined, and new
applications have been discovered.
To fully understand how solar power energy is created we need to look at how silicon solar cells are
made by using either single crystal wafers, polycrystalline wafers or thin films.
Single crystal wafers are sliced, (approx. 1/3 to 1/2 of a millimeter thick), from a large single crystal
ingot which has been grown at around 1400 °C, which is a very expensive process. The silicon must
be of a very high purity and have a near perfect crystal structure.
Polycrystalline wafers are made by a casting process in which molten silicon is poured into a mould
and allowed to set. Then it is sliced into wafers. As polycrystalline wafers are made by casting they
are significantly cheaper to produce, but not as efficient as monocrystalline cells. The lower
efficiency is due to imperfections in the crystal structure resulting from the casting process.
Almost half the silicon is lost

Analysis Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes
In the text "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes is explained in the point of view of the mother
speaking to her son about life. This poem is very symbolic. The author uses an object, image,
character, or action that stands for an idea beyond its literal meaning. For example "Life for me ain't
been no crystal stair" does not represent a crystal stair, but a far deeper meaning that must be
thought over and over again. The quote is also a metaphor because the quote is comparing two
things without using "like" or "as". The poem explains the truth of life. We are all born with
negative and positive pieces because no one is perfect. The mother tells her son that life is not easy
but we must thrive through until we hit the success we want in life

How Does Ray Bradbury Use Light And Dark In Fahrenheit 451
Title
In Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, he uses light and dark as contrasts is used as a motif to help
further develop differences between people in society through characterization and plot. Light
symbolizes knowledge and purity; on the other hand, darkness shows ignorance in the society, while
also being a form of safety. Bradbury uses light versus dark to compare purity and ignorance
through characterization. Before Montag found the value behind books, he would come home from
his job of burning books. The first night of meeting Clarisse while walking home from work, he
describes her face as a "fragile milk crystal with a soft and constant light in it. It was not a hysterical
light of electricity but– what? But the strangely comfortable

Descriptive Essay About The Mirror
I opened my eyes and found myself looking into a sizable mirror atop a colossal mahogany desk.
The dark wood was cool and smooth beneath my fingertips and brought goose bumps to my skin.
The room was dark but I could still see the rich blue paint on the walls and the classic paintings on
the wall. There were paintings by Monet, Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci and other world–renowned
artists. I wanted to rush over to the paintings and exam every last detail and commit it to memory.
Something pulled me back to the mirror and I was entranced by a pair of eerily similar smoky grey
eyes.
Although the eyes are identical to mine, the reflection looking back it me is not my own. The man
looking back at me is enormous, taking up nearly the whole mirror. He is muscular and you can see
the bulge of his muscles beneath his designer suit. His golden blond hair is longer then I am used to
seeing and is halfway down his ears. His hair is streaked in silver which betrays his older age
despite his young features. He has dark circles under his eyes that gives away how exhausted and
stressed he is. He has a sizable moustache so the stubble on his face means he hasn't shaved in a few
days.
His black suit looked disheveled and he his golden tie haphazardly loosened, but still around his
neck. He ran shaky hands through his hair before removing a small black leather box from his
pocket and placing it on the desk out of the way. On his left ring finger he wore a white gold

Synthesis Of Alum From Aluminum Can Pieces
Synthesis of Alum from Aluminum Can Pieces *Marita John, Crystal Chacko, and Natalie Luera
CHEM 111–553 Introduction: There is a great demand in industries to recycle aluminum for a salt
such as dyeing of textiles, manufacturing of pickles, baking powder, leather tanning, and as a
flocculant in water purification, etc. The negative ionic charge of alum of potassium and its
molecular structure makes this compound unable to be absorbed by the skin, therefore, it is
sometimes used as antiperspirants by deodorant industries. The energy needed to produce new
aluminum from the secondary aluminum product through recycling s is less energy than creating
brand new products of aluminum. The main purpose is to synthesize alum, potassium aluminum ...

Dream Consequences In Baum's The Wizard Of Oz
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. (Baum) In case you haven't seen the film already,
the plot to The Wizard of Oz (Oz) is profoundly complex and requires critical inquiry to unravel its
intricacies. Dorothy, a forlorn Kansas farmgirl, daydreams of a fanciful fantasia where her dog,
Toto, doesn't have to suffer the nuisance of a nasty spinster witch of a neighbor. So, she plans to run
away – far, far away. I know, a little weighty, but stick with me.
Bipped on the head after a terribly menacing tornado sweeps across her desolate Kansas landscape,
Dorothy is knocked out cold as her house is magically carried away – in arguably one of the most
fantastical dream sequences ever put to film – to a land 'beyond the rainbow,' where she encounters
marvelously embellished characters from her Kansas life. If it gets to be too complicated just let me
know.
Freaked out after she kills somebody with her house and their sister vows revenge, Dorothy decides
to get the hell out of Oz. She travels down the Yellow Brick Road with the extravagantly abstracted
impersonations of her real–world family on her way to the majestic Emerald City of the Land of Oz,
where she plans to ask the great and powerful wizard to send her back to her home in Kansas. Oh
yeah, on the way she got into it with that sister that vowed revenge – who turned out to be a real
witch herself – and came out on the better end, so the wizard rewarded her with her hearts' desire
and granted Dorothy a return home.

Mother To Son Literary Devices
Langston Hughes was a substantial American poet, playwright, and novelist who was a major
contributor to the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s because of his African American themes. He
sought to voice the stories of his people in methods that revealed their actual culture, including their
suffering, their love of music, and language. In his poem, "Mother to Son", a mother tells her son
about the sufferings she has faced, but continued to live life constantly knocking down each obstacle
relentlessly. She advises him to follow the tradition and never stop working hard. By using many
literary devices, Langston Hughes portrays the hardships faced by Africans in the twenties through
sixties vividly.
In this free–verse poem "Mother to Son", Langston ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mother says that she has been to "places with no carpet on the floor". This implies that she
experienced perilous circumstances which she had to combat to reach where she is now. It also
suggests that the carpet was removed to burn the floor boards to keep warm. This connotes that the
mother was in poor living conditions and unable to afford necessities. The pause on line 7
emphasizes how exhausted and restless the speaker is. It also shows that her journey was long and
slow before she achieved her goals. This poem has line 7 as the focal point, drawing attention to the
word "bare" to convey that the mother owned nothing. After telling her hardships, she turns the table
around by using the conjunction "but" to demonstrate that despite all these difficulties she kept
moving forward. The speaker goes on to say that she "been a–climbin' on, reachin' landin's" which
tells the audience that her determination was worth it and it helped her reach places that she desired.
The imagery of dark and light used on lines 11–13 evokes times of uncertainty. "Goin' in the dark"
indicates that she took risks and did things that she was not sure where it was going to lead

A Short Story : A Story?
"Giuliana and Gabriella? Come upstairs please, we have to talk to you!" my parents shouted from
their room. My best friend Crystal and I were preparing my house for my sister Ava's fourth
birthday. When my mom called my sister and I upstairs, we immediately went up to see what was
wrong. As we walked into our parent's room, my mom suddenly had a stern look on her face. As I
sat down in front of them, I immediately knew what was happening. After a few minutes of
hesitation, my mom finally said, "Girls. Your dad and I have to tell you something. Your dad
received a promotion in Texas, so, we're moving there!" I felt a single teardrop fall onto my hand.
At that moment, my heart shattered into a thousand little pieces. The words my mom spoke were too
cumbersome to handle. Running until I made it into my room, I dropped to the ground, crying
quietly. My dad knocked on my bedroom door. I had no intentions of speaking to anyone, but he
came in regardless. "Gabby? Are you alright?" "No, I'm not! I won't leave, what about all of my
friends and family?" I aggressively shouted, starting to tear up. "I'm not leaving everyone I love, not
now, I can't." He came into my room with a concerned look washed over his face.
Moreover, I wasn't interested in what my dad was saying. The more he talked about it, the more
depressed I had become. When my dad finally left, I went to the bathroom to touch up my swollen
eyes and messy hair. Walking downstairs I noticed my best friend, Crystal, crying, so

Art Critique: The Crystal Universe By Leo Villareal
Art Critique
When entering "The Crystal Universe" the viewer is first attracted by the clear white lights. The
word "Crystal" is used to define this installation because when you first walk through it, the color is
clear and white, representing how a crystal would look like. Once in the installation, the changing of
colors is controlled by the viewer by selecting how they want to see the installation through the use
of their smartphone and tech devices. By changing colors in a rapid speed, the viewer is left amazed.
An example of an element that this structure has is rhythm because although the viewer controls the
colors, the colors repeat in a way that allows the viewer to clearly see the pattern when in the
sculpture.
With the LED light installation, teamLab illustrates a "Crystal Universe" by having the viewer
control of a tech device the lights change and causes it to look like you're truly in universe. The
artwork invites the viewer to imagine themselves as if they were viewing the universe through a
three dimensional perspective. Through the way the sculpture is set up, it allows the visitor to be

color white is always thought about something clean and pure. Villarreal has the ability to show
purity through this artwork because when I personally have passed this bridge, I felt a sense of peace

The Bell Jar And The Bluest Eye
Imagery is the utilization of visually descriptive language that appeals to any of the five senses of
the reader. The author of The Art of Fiction wrote, "whatever the genre may be, fiction does its work
by creating a dream in the reader's mind"(Gardner 31). John Gardner, like authors all across the
globe, is aware that aiding a reader to visualize a story is of utmost importance in order to create a
powerful connection between the reader and the text. The empathetic connection that imagery forms
in the mind of the reader articulates the work as a whole. The Bell Jar and The Bluest Eye apply
imagery that accentuates Esther's and Pecola's dejected emotions. Both literary works betow color as
a tool of imagery. Esther views the world around her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As mentioned before, the blue eyes symbolize beauty and joy to Pecola. "A little black girl who
wanted to rise up out of the pit of her blackness and see the world with blue eyes." (Morrison 174).
Morrison paints a picture in the reader's mind of the perfect, enchanting, crystal blue eyes with the
utilization of imagery. In the following passage, Morrison uses colorful imagery to describe how
Pecola's culture promotes whiteness as beauty: "Adults, older girls, shops, magazines, newspapers,
window signs – all the world had agreed that a blue–eyed, yellow–haired, pink–skinned doll was
what every girl child treasured" (Morrison 39). The reader can visualize the picturesque doll with
blue eyes, blonde hair, and pink porcelain skin, sitting on the top shelf of everyone's favorite store.
The utilization of imagery to describe an individual's physical appearance is Morrison's way of
displaying the unequal treatment that Pecola encounters as a young black girl in a condemnatory
society. The colors of one's appearance is noted by Morrison throughout the novel, for physical
appearance is highly significant in the imagery that Morrison depicts. Society casts its dark hatred
upon those who do not conform to the standards of beauty that society sets, expediting self
negativity to those who do not fit the perfect physical

Robert Frost Reconsidering Perspectives
Discoveries often require individuals to reconsider their perspective and develop a new
understanding of the world around them. Examine this statement in relation to your prescribed text
and ONE related text. Often, discoveries can demand a re–evaluation of one's outlook on life.
Arguably, the process of reconsidering perspectives is a way of making sense of the world and
coming to terms with confronting realities. This is examined throughout Robert Frost's poetic texts

Comparison Of Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull And The Matrix
After watching and analyzing the action adventure film, Indiana Jones – "Kingdom of the Crystal
Skull" (2008) and the Sci–Fi thriller, The Matrix (1999) many cinematic elements attracted my
attention. With three very distinct and ingenious directors, (Spielberg and the Wachowskis siblings)
these two films exemplified extraordinary uses of lighting, framing, editing and sound techniques
unique to its own genre.
Lighting
Foremost, in terms of lighting Indiana Jones – Kingdom of the Crystal Skull does a great job of
using lighting as a symbolism for the iconic "Indiana Jones" theme that viewers have become
accustomed to. The last time viewers saw the adventurous archeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison
Ford), he was riding off into the sunset at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being that both the Crystal Skull and The Matrix are arguably adventurous films, they both had
nondiegetic sound elements – music. For instance, during clips that illustrated the antagonist ( Agent
Smith and the Russian soldiers) both films maintained suspenseful music selections. In times of car
chases, shooting scenes and other upbeat shots, the music got very exciting, pulsating and alluring.
However, due to the fact that The Matrix (1999) was the first film debuted in its series, its sound
patterns were relatively new to audiences. Whereas in the Crystal Skull, viewers are hit with the
familiar Indiana Jones jingle throughout the film. All these non–literal sounds were not coming from
a particular source or conveyed literal meaning, they just intensified the scenes. On the other hand,
in the Crystal Skull viewers also receive a lot of diegetic sounds especially while in the jungle. One
of my favorites is the creepy, hissing and crawling sounds audience members hear coming from the
ants as they take over the screen. This successfully does a great job of connecting viewers with the
actions on screen and undoubtedly makes them cringe and shake as the ants swarm and consume the
Russian soldier. Moreover, we get another diegetic sound coming from a snake when Jones is
trapped in the quick sand. I found this scene to be interesting because it yet again symbolized the
"Indiana Jones" theme. Indiana Jones is knowingly scared of snakes so hearing the hissing sound
immediately frightens him and connects viewers with his long–loved character. On the other hand,
in The Matrix ambient sounds were heavily used especially in the "real world." While on the ship
viewers hear the destruction and thrilling sounds coming from the robots and machines in the
atmosphere. The same technique is used once characters travel into the Matrix and the
environmental sounds transform from machines to

How Did Rosalind Franklin Use X-Ray Crystallography?
Rosalind Franklin used X–ray crystallography to discover the structure of DNA. With the use of X–
ray crystallography, or X–ray diffraction, she was able to create Photo 51. With the close
examination of this photo and other photos similar, she was able to conclude that the structure of
DNA is a double helix. She was the first to successfully discover the correct structure of DNA.
Franklin had made a breakthrough in the world of DNA. She also identified the two different forms
of DNA, the A form and B form. Through the use of x–ray crystallography, Rosalind Franklin, was
able to use a crystalline DNA sample to discover that the structure of DNA is a double helix.

"wet" form. She discovered that the forms would change depending on the humidity. The B form
produced sharp diffraction pictures. Franklin continued to photograph and observe the A form of
DNA. She believed that the A form would produce better images because it was more crystalline
than the B form. After no success with the A from she was getting ready to leave King's college. She
looked again at a picture she took labeled #51. This photo was of B form DNA. A few days later she
concluded that A and B form of DNA were two chain helices. The B form of DNA was sure to be a

Ygraine. With Merlin's help, Uther tricked her into sleeping with him by taking on the shape of
Ygraine's husband, the Duke of Gorlois, after he had already murdered the Duke. Her new stepfather
could not abide Morgan since she suspected him of his ignoble deed, so Uther sent Morgan to
Ygraine's sister, Viviane – the abbess at the convent on Avalon. Here, safe among the nuns, Morgan
was taught the art of sorcery. She furthered her education in magic as a student of Merlin's when she
came to King Arthur's court. During this transition time between the old religion and the new, the
convent could well have been a Druidic college for women. Goddess of the Holy Well In Irish

Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Meaning
There is no mystery in "Mother to Son" as to who is speaking to whom. In fact, the title of the poem
alone provides all of the exposition needed to understand that this piece is set up as a mother's
advice to her son. Presumably, this poem represents the advice that Langston Hughes may have
received from his own mother. The imagery of a staircase opens up the work, which begins, "Well,
son, I'll tell you: / Life for me ain't been no crystal stair" (Hughes 1–2). Line two, in particular,
immediately conjures several associations in the mind of the reader. First, many audiences will be
familiar with the concept of a "stairway to heaven," as such a proverbial structure is mentioned often

"It's had tacks in it, / And splinters, / And boards torn up, / And places with no carpet on the floor – /
Bare" (Hughes 3–7). Clearly, this woman's life has been difficult. More than that, by using imagery
of tacks, splinters, and torn up boards, the mother is telling her son that at times her life has been
outright dangerous. It is no mistake that Hughes chooses to use images of objects that can easily do
physical harm. Lines three through seven confirm that the mother's life journey has been more than
hard; indeed, it has been perilous. However, as the poem continues, mother tells son that she has
always managed to advance in spite of the obstacles on her particular staircase. "But all the time /
I'se been a–climbin' on, / And reachin' landin's, / And turnin' corners, / And sometimes goin' in the
dark / Where there ain't been no light" (Hughes 8–13). During these lines, the tone of the poem
slowly turns from hopeless to hopeful. True, the mother's life has been dangerous a fraught with
obstacles, and yet she has thus far overcome each one of her challenges. The phrases, "reachin'
landin's" and "turnin' corners" instill a sense of success in the mind of the reader, as both are
common colloquial sayings that reflect a reprieve from hardship or a change for the better. Even
through the darkness, still the mother climbs on. In other words, though she is at times unsure of her
current position, she never loses sight of her

Compare And Contrast Nightfall And The Crystal Cave
Fear Factor The three books, Nightfall, by Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg, Left for Dead, by
Pete Nelson, and The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart, all have aspects of fear within the novels. In
each novel fear is displayed differently, some characters reacted in a very demented way and others
almost fear nothing. Therefore, each book revealed various characteristics about characters that did
not seem appropriate for them. Nightfall reveals a sense of fear within its characters when a solar
eclipse occurs and blocks out all light of the planet. The people are not used to no sunlight because
they always have at least one sun shining, because they have six suns. After having 2049 years of
pure sunlight, the world goes dark for half of a day and, due to the darkness people all go insane and
start ransacking the city. This is an extreme example of fear because due to people's fear of darkness,
they came to the borderline of ending that planet's society. As extreme as this was, it had occurred at
least nine other times in the past storyline of the book. Left for Dead demonstrates fear by showing
inside the thoughts of the Maurice Glenn Bell. A kid named Hunter Scott interviewed Maurice ...

How would you like to try some crystal meth?
Chances are, you're saying, "no" right about now, maybe shaking your head in disgust. Why would
you want to try crystal meth? That stuff is so ridiculously dangerous, right? Would it change your
mind if you saw it on television?
The highly acclaimed, wildly popular, and most recent winner of the Golden Globe Award for Best

live out his life teaching high school chemistry to indifferent students.
However, when White is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, he begins manufacturing "the greatest

this illegal new hobby was originally to help pay for his chemotherapy treatments, but he soon
realizes that he has found himself far too deep into the drug underworld to climb back out again.

tells its awe inspiring tales. The vastness of the universe presents the crew of the starship Enterprise
with endless situations of danger and unfamiliarity. In a world such as this, the best way to ensure
survival and safety from the unknown, is to have a reliable, hand–held weapon such as the phaser.
This is one of the most intellectual and scientific weapons ever conceived. This technology is the
most fascinating of all for its design and use in the show, and the real life equivalents. Over the
years, the phaser has changed dramatically, and the way each individual model functions is worth
looking at. As the seasons passed the writers got ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Phasers are powerful, complex energy beam weapons of a wide variety of uses and models. The
P.H.A.S.E.R. originally stood for Photon mASER (The Original Series) but has since been changed
to a more clear description as a PHASed–Energy Rectifier. The original models, such as pistols,
rifles and laser cannons, drew their energy from battery sources or the ships energy. These system,
generally, weren't very complex and the possibility of recreation was much more realistic for these
models. Phasers started to become more and more complex, however, and the scientific explanations
became more interesting. The intricate design of the weapon makes it unlike anything the world has
ever seen. After consulting the Star Trek: U.S.S Enterprise Haynes Manuel, written by Ben
Robinson and Marcus Riley, the phaser is taken apart, piece by futuristic piece. The

Mother To Son Literary Devices
In Langston Hughes' poem "Mother to Son", he uses vivid imagery to present the dialogue between
the mother and son. Hughes focuses on both the visual and symbolic aspect found in crystal stairs.
Theoretically, they are flawless, exquisite and glamorous. However, Hughes opens the dialogue with
"Well, son, I'll tell you: / Life for me ain't been no crystal stair." (1–2) introducing the extended
metaphor that's used throughout the poem. For the mother to then continue on by describing the
differences, it builds up the suspense in presenting a compelling contrast of the crystal stairs to the
reality of her life. Additionally, it grabs the son's attention in listening to what his mother has to say.
Despite what the mother has just said, Hughes transitions by using the phrase, "But all the time" (8)
emphasizing the abilities of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only does she repeats "Don't you..." but also "I'se still climbin', / And life for me ain't been no
crystal stair." (19–20) The repetition of these lines and the extended metaphor contribute to the
significance of the mother's advice which is her intention. Furthermore, Hughes' way of clarifying it
makes it effective to both the son and reader, because they now understand the rationale of the
mother in telling them to not turning back or setting down on such steps. Hughes uses the motherly
figure to conceive an encouraging and positive tone towards life. The repetition of crystal stairs then
symbolizes the ideal world that everyone strives to live in, but as one learns from experience, the
world is far from what is expected. Nonetheless, because the mother was able to overcome such
hardships, she holds her son to do the same and to be able to prepare for any incidents. Overall, the
concept of the stairs helps in framing the entire poem of her motherly advice to a struggling

The Evolution Of Oled Displays

  • 1. The Evolution Of Oled Displays In the modern era of Graphical Display Technology, there has been a rapid advancement. With arise of CRTs; there came an existence for the world of displays. Soon after, various research and development in the field of displays gave the cutting edge technologies such as LCDs, LEDs, and Plasma Displays. In such scenario, a display ability to produce deep, dark blacks and crisper colors are arguably the most important factor in achieving excellent picture quality. Deeper blacks allows for higher contrast and richer colors, and thus a more realistic and dazzling image. When it comes to black levels, OLED reigns as the undisputed champion. OLEDS stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes. OLEDs are solid–state devices composed of thin films of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The proposed mechanism was field– accelerated electron excitation of molecular fluorescence. Roger Partridge made the first observation of electroluminescence from polymer films at the National Physical Laboratory in the United Kingdom. The device consisted of a film of poly (N– vinylcarbazole) up to 2.2 micrometers thick located between two charge–injecting electrodes. The results of the project were patented in 1975 and published in 1983. The first practical OLEDs: American physical chemist Ching W. Tang and Steven Van Slyke at Eastman Kodak built the first practical OLED device in 1987.This device used a two–layer structure with separate hole transporting and electron transporting layers such that recombination and light emission occurred in the middle of the organic layer; this resulted in a reduction in operating voltage and improvements in efficiency. 3. Evolution: The discovery of the electroluminescence in organic crystals by Martin Pope and his research group in 1963 has opened a new era, especially in the field of OLEDs. However, the development of organic electroluminescence based devices is very slow due to the requirement of high voltage as well as for low efficiency. About 29 years ago, in 1987, Ching W. Tang and Steve Van Slyke have discovered the first efficient light–emitting device based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mendrik: An Excerpt From 'The Third Hell' The Third Hell Mendrik the Elven Wizard soared high above the treetops of Merothrax Isle; he was searching for the mouth of a gilded cave atop the frigid cliffs of Misery's Peak. The cave was once the prized lair of Merothrax the Greedy, a young white dragon who passed away when a devious necromancer fooled him into giving up his soul for eternal wealth. The reason Mendrik was headed up this frigid mountain range was because he was to meet up with his comrades, Eberk and Sashir, to see if they had any luck in finding work. The three of them were skilled adventurers who travelled across land and sea to find people who were in need of their skills. As in the pit of eternal chaos, void of all good and evil!?" "The very same" he murmured. Sashir stared at them with his eyes wide open, "Mendrik, did you say his robes were a dark red and black?" Mendrik slowly nodded. "I've heard of this cult before, they summon demons and undead creatures to wreak havoc wherever they go. They call themselves Illuminati, for they believe that they have been enlightened by their foul diet and wish to kill those who don't follow him." "Mendrik, do you have any idea of their whereabouts?" inquired Eberk. "Not an exact location, but I found a map tattooed on his arm leading to a dark temple far east from here," replied Mendrik. "The Temple of The Nine Hells," whispered Sashir. "Its origins are unknown, but it predates the entire island and according the legend. These characteristics were developed by people that came into his life at the right time. Intelligence helped him to understand the soul of the world. • 7. Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Summary Langston Hughes wrote the poem "Mother to Son" in December of 1922. This poem is not only an excellent piece of work; it is a life lesson for all of us to learn about. I believe that this poem is important because this mother lays life out for her son instead of making him believe that life is a ray of sunshine. It pretty much starts out with "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair" in line two. The "crystal stair" is the way people look at you. During this time period, it was not uncommon that people looked you up and down for the way you dressed, or your common lifestyle. It is sad to say that still today we treat one another just the same. In the world we live in I do not blame this mother for not wanting her son to grow up in a bubble of a life, to realize that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even when your life is "Bare" you can still keep going even if that means going alone. As the mother said, "For I'se still goin' honey" (7) (18). This poem expresses the hardships of routine life for many common people, but at the time this was composed it was not usual to hear about anyone's struggles even if it were common knowledge. Langston Hughes wanted the readers to learn that it is ok to struggle because everyone does it, believe it or not. He wanted everyone to take from this experience in "Mother to Son" to show that struggles in life are not to hold you back, but only to make you try harder. Hughes says in lines nine through thirteen "I'se been a–climbin' on, And reachin' landin's, and turnin' corners, and sometimes goin' in the dark. So boy, don't you turn back". This portion of the poem really stands out to because I can turn it around and relate it to college and the point of life I am at. In Fahrenheit 451, people don't know who they are and never see their reflections. The government acts as a barrier between its people and who they can be, Montag was chosen to be a fireman solely based on his appearance like all before him. Ray Bradbury uses mirrors as the most important symbol in this story to show the reader that looking within themselves they can create a future of their own. The people in the government are told their exact future and blinded by technology to do the bidding of society. People like mildred are convinced that the life they are living is the only future for them, the crystal ball of the government distorts who they really are and keeps them from their true selves. The Dark Crystal Film Analysis Andrew Fung Fung 1 Kathleen/Foley Muppet Magic February 23, 2010 The Dark Crystal Film Analysis Making its debut 1982, The Dark Crystal, created and directed by puppeteers Jim Henson and Frank Oz, was a fantasy film that involved intricate puppeteers and animatronics. Aside from The Muppets and Sesame Street, which involves more comedic skits to relay their message to its viewers, The Dark Crystal was a different kind of muppet movie because it used fantasy, fiction and action to tell its story. With this change in Jim Henson's usual way of story telling, the fantasy aspect of the movie becomes associated with the narrative patterns and functions of Propp. As the story line progresses throughout the film, some of the 31 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in the film, both Jen and Kira arrive at the Castle of the Crystal but is encountered by Chamberlain again. This is significant because although Chamberlain attempts to deceive them again, he ends up capturing Kira, forcing Jen and Chamberlain to "join in direct combat", exhibiting the sixteenth function of Propp. This demonstrates an aspect of one of the struggles a hero has to face in his or her journey. As Jen attempts to rescue Kira, he finds the location of the "dark crystal", bring him one step closer in achieving his quest. The final challenge is presented when Jen is on top of the "dark crystal" and after a failed attempt, resulting in the death of Kira, Jen succeeds in the end by uniting the shard with the "dark crystal" fulfilling the prophecy and restoring the planet to its previous state. Thus showing the final function of Propp: resolution of the task. All these functions create the structure of Henson's fantasy movie and helps tell a story that keeps its viewers wanting to know what is going to happen next. With Henson using these narrative patterns and intricately designed puppets to tell a story to children, it provides a change from laughter and comedy to something filled with excitement and suspense. In doing so, it gives children a chance to enter a different dimension and maximize their ability to imagine. Similarly, how I view myself and the world comes in two opposite forces: a light happy view, and a dark sad view. When either mindset takes over, my mind morphs into a landscape that I imagine myself residing in. Each landscape makes me feel different. The light makes me confident and happy while the dark makes me self conscious and depressed. These images of dark and light transform and clash in my head, changing my attitude and mood. Whenever I boast a positive mindset, I imagine my mind forming into a dazzling jungle blanketed in radiant light. Across the land, luscious trees draped in a shawl of dark green vines tower high in the sky. In the heart of the jungle a calm river with crystal waters meanders through patches of exotic flowers. • 17. Solar Energy Our world has been in existence for billions of years and throughout all those years we have used the sun for basic energy needs. So why not be able to harness that energy and use it to power things like our homes or our cars? Many scientist have been developing alternate forms of energy called "Green Energy." Green power is the solution to creating a cleaner, sustainable energy system. Renewable energy––power from the sun, wind, plants, and moving water––is a natural way to meet our energy needs and protect the environment. Here are some forms of green energy: • Wind energy converts the power available in moving air into electricity. Wind power does not produce air emissions, generate solid waste, or use water. • Biomass is energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • the need for non polluting and silent sources of electricity; eg tourist sites, caravans and campers • the need for a convenient and flexible source of small amounts of power; eg calculators, watches, light meters and cameras; • the need for renewable and sustainable power, as a means of reducing global warming. Together, these needs have produced a growing market for photovoltaics which has stimulated innovation. As the market has grown, the cost of cells and systems has declined, and new applications have been discovered. To fully understand how solar power energy is created we need to look at how silicon solar cells are made by using either single crystal wafers, polycrystalline wafers or thin films. Single crystal wafers are sliced, (approx. 1/3 to 1/2 of a millimeter thick), from a large single crystal ingot which has been grown at around 1400 °C, which is a very expensive process. The silicon must be of a very high purity and have a near perfect crystal structure. Polycrystalline wafers are made by a casting process in which molten silicon is poured into a mould and allowed to set. Then it is sliced into wafers. As polycrystalline wafers are made by casting they are significantly cheaper to produce, but not as efficient as monocrystalline cells. The lower efficiency is due to imperfections in the crystal structure resulting from the casting process. Almost half the silicon is lost

  • 20. Analysis Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes In the text "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes is explained in the point of view of the mother speaking to her son about life. This poem is very symbolic. The author uses an object, image, character, or action that stands for an idea beyond its literal meaning. For example "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair" does not represent a crystal stair, but a far deeper meaning that must be thought over and over again. The quote is also a metaphor because the quote is comparing two things without using "like" or "as". The poem explains the truth of life. We are all born with negative and positive pieces because no one is perfect. The mother tells her son that life is not easy but we must thrive through until we hit the success we want in life ... How Does Ray Bradbury Use Light And Dark In Fahrenheit 451 Title In Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, he uses light and dark as contrasts is used as a motif to help further develop differences between people in society through characterization and plot. Light symbolizes knowledge and purity; on the other hand, darkness shows ignorance in the society, while also being a form of safety. Bradbury uses light versus dark to compare purity and ignorance through characterization. Before Montag found the value behind books, he would come home from his job of burning books. • 24. Descriptive Essay About The Mirror I opened my eyes and found myself looking into a sizable mirror atop a colossal mahogany desk. The dark wood was cool and smooth beneath my fingertips and brought goose bumps to my skin. The room was dark but I could still see the rich blue paint on the walls and the classic paintings on the wall. There were paintings by Monet, Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci and other world–renowned artists. I wanted to rush over to the paintings and exam every last detail and commit it to memory. Something pulled me back to the mirror and I was entranced by a pair of eerily similar smoky grey eyes. Although the eyes are identical to mine, the reflection looking back it me is not my own. The man looking back at me is enormous, taking up nearly the whole mirror. He is muscular and you can see the bulge of his muscles beneath his designer suit. His golden blond hair is longer then I am used to seeing and is halfway down his ears. His hair is streaked in silver which betrays his older age despite his young features. He has dark circles under his eyes that gives away how exhausted and stressed he is. He has a sizable moustache so the stubble on his face means he hasn't shaved in a few days. His black suit looked disheveled and he his golden tie haphazardly loosened, but still around his neck. He ran shaky hands through his hair before removing a small black leather box from his pocket and placing it on the desk out of the way. (Baum) In case you haven't seen the film already, the plot to The Wizard of Oz (Oz) is profoundly complex and requires critical inquiry to unravel its intricacies. Dorothy, a forlorn Kansas farmgirl, daydreams of a fanciful fantasia where her dog, Toto, doesn't have to suffer the nuisance of a nasty spinster witch of a neighbor. So, she plans to run away – far, far away. I know, a little weighty, but stick with me. Bipped on the head after a terribly menacing tornado sweeps across her desolate Kansas landscape, Dorothy is knocked out cold as her house is magically carried away – in arguably one of the most fantastical dream sequences ever put to film – to a land 'beyond the rainbow,' where she encounters marvelously embellished characters from her Kansas life. If it gets to be too complicated just let me know. Freaked out after she kills somebody with her house and their sister vows revenge, Dorothy decides to get the hell out of Oz. She travels down the Yellow Brick Road with the extravagantly abstracted impersonations of her real–world family on her way to the majestic Emerald City of the Land of Oz, where she plans to ask the great and powerful wizard to send her back to her home in Kansas. Oh yeah, on the way she got into it with that sister that vowed revenge – who turned out to be a real witch herself – and came out on the better end, so the wizard rewarded her with her hearts' desire and granted Dorothy a return home. ... The trees seemed to be having conversations with each other. Each one swayed as if laughing. If he strained his ear, he could hear the faint chirping of nocturnal birds. Ebon could not help but grin broadly. "Yes," he said, "It is all beautiful." His gaze, once again, fell onto Ilene. He was surprised to see her eyeing him, as well. • 36. Mother To Son Literary Devices Langston Hughes was a substantial American poet, playwright, and novelist who was a major contributor to the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s because of his African American themes. He sought to voice the stories of his people in methods that revealed their actual culture, including their suffering, their love of music, and language. In his poem, "Mother to Son", a mother tells her son about the sufferings she has faced, but continued to live life constantly knocking down each obstacle relentlessly. She advises him to follow the tradition and never stop working hard. By using many literary devices, Langston Hughes portrays the hardships faced by Africans in the twenties through sixties vividly. This implies that she experienced perilous circumstances which she had to combat to reach where she is now. It also suggests that the carpet was removed to burn the floor boards to keep warm. This connotes that the mother was in poor living conditions and unable to afford necessities. The pause on line 7 emphasizes how exhausted and restless the speaker is. It also shows that her journey was long and slow before she achieved her goals. This poem has line 7 as the focal point, drawing attention to the word "bare" to convey that the mother owned nothing. After telling her hardships, she turns the table around by using the conjunction "but" to demonstrate that despite all these difficulties she kept moving forward. The speaker goes on to say that she "been a–climbin' on, reachin' landin's" which tells the audience that her determination was worth it and it helped her reach places that she desired. The imagery of dark and light used on lines 11–13 evokes times of uncertainty. "Goin' in the dark" indicates that she took risks and did things that she was not sure where it was going to lead ... The word "Crystal" is used to define this installation because when you first walk through it, the color is clear and white, representing how a crystal would look like. Once in the installation, the changing of colors is controlled by the viewer by selecting how they want to see the installation through the use of their smartphone and tech devices. By changing colors in a rapid speed, the viewer is left amazed. An example of an element that this structure has is rhythm because although the viewer controls the colors, the colors repeat in a way that allows the viewer to clearly see the pattern when in the sculpture. With the LED light installation, teamLab illustrates a "Crystal Universe" by having the viewer control of a tech device the lights change and causes it to look like you're truly in universe. The author of The Art of Fiction wrote, "whatever the genre may be, fiction does its work by creating a dream in the reader's mind"(Gardner 31). John Gardner, like authors all across the globe, is aware that aiding a reader to visualize a story is of utmost importance in order to create a powerful connection between the reader and the text. The empathetic connection that imagery forms in the mind of the reader articulates the work as a whole. In the following passage, Morrison uses colorful imagery to describe how Pecola's culture promotes whiteness as beauty: "Adults, older girls, shops, magazines, newspapers, window signs – all the world had agreed that a blue–eyed, yellow–haired, pink–skinned doll was what every girl child treasured" (Morrison 39). The reader can visualize the picturesque doll with blue eyes, blonde hair, and pink porcelain skin, sitting on the top shelf of everyone's favorite store. The utilization of imagery to describe an individual's physical appearance is Morrison's way of displaying the unequal treatment that Pecola encounters as a young black girl in a condemnatory society. The colors of one's appearance is noted by Morrison throughout the novel, for physical appearance is highly significant in the imagery that Morrison depicts. Comparison Of Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull And The Matrix After watching and analyzing the action adventure film, Indiana Jones – "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" (2008) and the Sci–Fi thriller, The Matrix (1999) many cinematic elements attracted my attention. With three very distinct and ingenious directors, (Spielberg and the Wachowskis siblings) these two films exemplified extraordinary uses of lighting, framing, editing and sound techniques unique to its own genre. Lighting Foremost, in terms of lighting Indiana Jones – Kingdom of the Crystal Skull does a great job of using lighting as a symbolism for the iconic "Indiana Jones" theme that viewers have become accustomed to. The last time viewers saw the adventurous archeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), he was riding off into the sunset at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being that both the Crystal Skull and The Matrix are arguably adventurous films, they both had nondiegetic sound elements – music. For instance, during clips that illustrated the antagonist ( Agent Smith and the Russian soldiers) both films maintained suspenseful music selections. In times of car chases, shooting scenes and other upbeat shots, the music got very exciting, pulsating and alluring. However, due to the fact that The Matrix (1999) was the first film debuted in its series, its sound patterns were relatively new to audiences. Whereas in the Crystal Skull, viewers are hit with the familiar Indiana Jones jingle throughout the film. All these non–literal sounds were not coming from a particular source or conveyed literal meaning, they just intensified the scenes. On the other hand, in the Crystal Skull viewers also receive a lot of diegetic sounds especially while in the jungle. One of my favorites is the creepy, hissing and crawling sounds audience members hear coming from the ants as they take over the screen. This successfully does a great job of connecting viewers with the actions on screen and undoubtedly makes them cringe and shake as the ants swarm and consume the Russian soldier. Moreover, we get another diegetic sound coming from a snake when Jones is trapped in the quick sand. I found this scene to be interesting because it yet again symbolized the "Indiana Jones" theme. Indiana Jones is knowingly scared of snakes so hearing the hissing sound immediately frightens him and connects viewers with his long–loved character. On the other hand, in The Matrix ambient sounds were heavily used especially in the "real world." While on the ship viewers hear the destruction and thrilling sounds coming from the robots and machines in the atmosphere. The same technique is used once characters travel into the Matrix and the environmental sounds transform from machines to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the use of X– ray crystallography, or X–ray diffraction, she was able to create Photo 51. With the close examination of this photo and other photos similar, she was able to conclude that the structure of DNA is a double helix. She was the first to successfully discover the correct structure of DNA. Franklin had made a breakthrough in the world of DNA. She also identified the two different forms of DNA, the A form and B form. She exposed the DNA sample to x–rays, usually overnight, and did this many times at many different angles to get a 3–dimensional image of the DNA. While working with different humidity's she discovered that there were two forms of DNA the common "A" or "dry" form that she had been using and a longer, thinner, heavily hydrated "par crystalline" form, which she called the "B" or "wet" form. She discovered that the forms would change depending on the humidity. The B form produced sharp diffraction pictures. Franklin continued to photograph and observe the A form of DNA. She believed that the A form would produce better images because it was more crystalline than the B form. After no success with the A from she was getting ready to leave King's college. She looked again at a picture she took labeled #51. This photo was of B form DNA. A few days later she concluded that A and B form of DNA were two chain helices. The B form of DNA was sure to be a double helix while she was not completely positive that the A form was also a double helix. She looked down at her watch, even though when she was in this world time froze in the regular world. Slowly, she turned to walk back to reality. As she slipped the golden key into the keyhole, the portal opened. Claire walked back into reality and set the beautiful ancient key into her desk drawer. In one Arthurian legend, King Uther Pendragon was obsessed with lust for Morgan's mother, Ygraine. With Merlin's help, Uther tricked her into sleeping with him by taking on the shape of Ygraine's husband, the Duke of Gorlois, after he had already murdered the Duke. Her new stepfather could not abide Morgan since she suspected him of his ignoble deed, so Uther sent Morgan to Ygraine's sister, Viviane – the abbess at the convent on Avalon. Here, safe among the nuns, Morgan was taught the art of sorcery. She furthered her education in magic as a student of Merlin's when she came to King Arthur's court. During this transition time between the old religion and the new, the convent could well have been a Druidic college for women. • 66. Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Meaning There is no mystery in "Mother to Son" as to who is speaking to whom. In fact, the title of the poem alone provides all of the exposition needed to understand that this piece is set up as a mother's advice to her son. Presumably, this poem represents the advice that Langston Hughes may have received from his own mother. The imagery of a staircase opens up the work, which begins, "Well, son, I'll tell you: / Life for me ain't been no crystal stair" (Hughes 1–2). Line two, in particular, immediately conjures several associations in the mind of the reader. First, many audiences will be familiar with the concept of a "stairway to heaven," as such a proverbial structure is mentioned often through world history in works such as the Bible and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "It's had tacks in it, / And splinters, / And boards torn up, / And places with no carpet on the floor – / Bare" (Hughes 3–7). Clearly, this woman's life has been difficult. More than that, by using imagery of tacks, splinters, and torn up boards, the mother is telling her son that at times her life has been outright dangerous. It is no mistake that Hughes chooses to use images of objects that can easily do physical harm. Lines three through seven confirm that the mother's life journey has been more than hard; indeed, it has been perilous. However, as the poem continues, mother tells son that she has always managed to advance in spite of the obstacles on her particular staircase. "But all the time / I'se been a–climbin' on, / And reachin' landin's, / And turnin' corners, / And sometimes goin' in the dark / Where there ain't been no light" (Hughes 8–13). During these lines, the tone of the poem slowly turns from hopeless to hopeful. True, the mother's life has been dangerous a fraught with obstacles, and yet she has thus far overcome each one of her challenges. The phrases, "reachin' landin's" and "turnin' corners" instill a sense of success in the mind of the reader, as both are common colloquial sayings that reflect a reprieve from hardship or a change for the better. Even through the darkness, still the mother climbs on. In other words, though she is at times unsure of her current position, she never loses sight of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Nightfall And The Crystal Cave Fear Factor The three books, Nightfall, by Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg, Left for Dead, by Pete Nelson, and The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart, all have aspects of fear within the novels. In each novel fear is displayed differently, some characters reacted in a very demented way and others almost fear nothing. Therefore, each book revealed various characteristics about characters that did not seem appropriate for them. After having 2049 years of pure sunlight, the world goes dark for half of a day and, due to the darkness people all go insane and start ransacking the city. This is an extreme example of fear because due to people's fear of darkness, they came to the borderline of ending that planet's society. • 78. Mother To Son Literary Devices In Langston Hughes' poem "Mother to Son", he uses vivid imagery to present the dialogue between the mother and son. Hughes focuses on both the visual and symbolic aspect found in crystal stairs. Theoretically, they are flawless, exquisite and glamorous. However, Hughes opens the dialogue with "Well, son, I'll tell you: / Life for me ain't been no crystal stair." (1–2) introducing the extended metaphor that's used throughout the poem. For the mother to then continue on by describing the differences, it builds up the suspense in presenting a compelling contrast of the crystal stairs to the reality of her life. (19–20) The repetition of these lines and the extended metaphor contribute to the significance of the mother's advice which is her intention. Furthermore, Hughes' way of clarifying it makes it effective to both the son and reader, because they now understand the rationale of the mother in telling them to not turning back or setting down on such steps. Hughes uses the motherly figure to conceive an encouraging and positive tone towards life. The repetition of crystal stairs then symbolizes the ideal world that everyone strives to live in, but as one learns from experience, the world is far from what is expected.
