• A veteran musician who previously functioned as Universal Music Group’s
Classics and Jazz Division president, Christopher “Chris” Roberts now
composes alongside his group Val Gardena. During his time at Universal
Music Group, Christopher Roberts served as executive producer on a
number of albums, including Sting’s If on a Winter’s Night.
Collaborating with arranger and producer Robert Sadin, Sting created an
album that served as a tribute to the winter season, which is the artist’s
favorite time of the year. Playing alongside a lineup of guest musicians,
Sting offers his own take on classic British lullabies, carols, and songs. Such
songs include “Soul Cake,” which is traditionally played by English beggars,
and “Soonest,” which finds its roots in the English city of Newcastle.
Additionally, the album features “The Hounds of Winter” and “Lullaby for
an Anxious Child,” a duo of original compositions that Sting wrote.
If on a Winter’s Night achieved Gold status in the United States, meaning it
sold over 500,000 copies, and reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200.
