Finger dexterity and strength are key tools for any pianist, so
here are some exercises that may improve agility.
Squeezing. Take a tennis or stress ball in your hand and
squeeze it consistently for approximately 20 seconds, before
relaxing your grip for 15 seconds. Repeat this 10 times and
then switch to your other hand. This improves hand strength.
3. Play scales. While they may not be the most
interesting thing to play, scales are designed to
develop your finger dexterity. Play scales single-
handedly at first, alternating the way you play them on
repeat efforts, before combining different scales played
together as your technique develops.
Fingertip Pressing. A dexterity exercise, this involves
lightly pushing the fingertips of each hand together,
keeping the fingers bent while maintaining distance
between the palms. Press your fingers together and
upwards, until they straighten out and your palms are
almost touching. Repeat this exercise multiple times
throughout the day.
