these things are bad for you? I get it eating healthy can be a problem for some people even though
you may just be that person that chooses not to eat healthy it can still be a struggle. Everyone and
their family enjoy eating things such as (Cakes,Pies,Ice Cream,Cookies, etc.) so why would you
choose to eat healthy foods over that? And in this essay I will be explaining many different reasons
as to why many people need to cut down on the junky foods and to start eating healthy.

Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between your
genetic makeup, overeating, eating high–fat foods, and not being physically active. Being obese
increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and some cancers. If you are obese,
losing even 5 to 10 percent of your weight can delay or prevent some of these diseases. For
example, that means losing 10 to 20 pounds if you weigh 200 pounds. All of this can come from
eating unhealthy foods.
Anyone who struggles with food and eating can fall into habits that may lead to what professionals
call disordered eating. Disordered eating can take many forms, ranging from unhealthy eating habits
that keep you from losing weight. "Healthy functioning organs require adequate nutrition, and
healthy hair follicles are no exception. Starvation diets that lead to severe protein–energy
malnutrition can cause brittle hair or worse, hair loss. Studies show diets that are low in protein,
essential fatty acids, and nutrients such as Vitamin C, zinc and iron are associated with hair loss,
thinning, and loss of pigmentation." (Quoted by Kristin Kilpatrick) "Foods that are high in simple
carbohydrates cause blood sugar to spike, which is followed by a blood sugar drop soon after. Often
called a sugar crash, this is the reason a high carbohydrate, sugary breakfast or afternoon snack can
leave you in an energy slump a few hours later. To help stabilize blood sugar

The key element for healthy human development and good health is a healthy eating plan from
prenatal to early childhood. Healthy eating is not only essential for healthy development, but also to
help reduce the risk of chronic diseases which is critical to your child's well being. It is generally
agreed right across the board, that it is better to undertake the basic dietary principles of eating less,
doing more exercise, eating fruits and vegetables on a daily basis along with whole grains and also
to avoid a large consumption of junk food. Listed below are some of the benefits of healthy eating.

Cholesterol travels in your blood in packages called lipoproteins. However, it is essential to
remember that not all cholesterol is actually bad for you. It is in truth, a natural substance which
serves as a building block in the body for cells and hormones, and helps fat to travel through the
blood vessels for use or storage in other parts of the body. However, a high blood cholesterol level
can lead to a build–up of plaque in your arteries, which can in effect increase the risk of heart
disease. There are, however, certain types of fiber, including oats, which can help to lower
cholesterol and maintain normal blood sugar levels, as part of a healthy

The Importance of Healthy Eating
ESSAY TITLE : THE IMPORTANCE OF HEALTHY EATING What is healthy eating ? Healthy
eating is not about strict nutrition philosophies, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of
the foods you love. Rather, it's about feeling great, having more energy, stabilizing your mood, and
keeping yourself as healthy as possible– all of which can be achieved by learning some nutrition
basics and using them in a way that works for you. You can expand your range of healthy food
choices and learn how to plan ahead to create and maintain a tasty, healthy diet. Healthy eating is

Whole grain foods and flours include 100% whole wheat, brown rice, bulger, corn, buckwheat,
oatmeal (oats), spelt and wild rice. Fruit and vegetables Fruit and vegetables have a high vitamin,
mineral and fiber content – these nutrients are vital for your body to function well. Several studies
have proven that a good intake of fruit and vegetables may protect from developing heart disease,
diabetes type 2, and cancer. Most health departments throughout the world recommend that we
consume five portions of fruit and vegetables each day. This could include either fresh, frozen or
canned, or dried fruit and veggies. A portion means either one large fruit, such as an apple, mango,
or a banana, or three heaped tablespoons of vegetables. It could also include one glass of 100% fruit
or vegetable juice. A fruit/vegetable drink is one portion, no matter how big it is. Beans and pulses
can also count as one portion. Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/43151–importance–

Healthy Eating Persuasive Speech Outline
Persuasive Speech: Making healthy Nutritional decisions.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my classmates to make healthier nutritional choices.
Thesis Statement: Healthy eating is not something to worry about down the road; we need to act
now, while we are young to develop good habits for the future.
1. Introduction:
a. Attention Getter: I visited Holly Drougas–our very own licensed dietician here at Virginia
Western. I asked her, "What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word 'Nutrition'?"
She shocked me by saying, "Confusion". With so much conflicting and confusing information from
both the scientific community and the lay press, many people simply don't know what to eat to be
healthy or to lose weight.
b. Focus on Topic: Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin,
or depriving yourself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relevance: When it comes down to it, I'm not going to shove kale down your throat if you tell me
that you just hate kale, even though it appears to be another one of the big health crazes. I'm just
trying to show you all that eating healthy doesn't have to be a miserable experience, and despite our
limitations as college students, we can overcome the hurdles of Availability, Time, and Money, to
maintain a healthy diet.
e. Preview: So today, we're going to talk about the wonderful world of Nutrition, and I'm going to
try to convince you that carrots and celery aren't just rabbit food, but people food too.
2. Problem Step:
a. Internal Preview: So let's start with some reasons as to why so many people are confused about
what to eat: misinformation and marketing.
b. Since 1992 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided the nutritional
food pyramid, which has been the standard by which many have ascribed as far as recommended

Why Is Eating Healthy?
When the average person is in need of food, they're usually dealing with the conflicting feelings of
whether or not they want to eat healthy, or just spoil themselves with junk foods. Dealing with those
feelings, one thing decides for that person; the price. Granted that sometimes there might be good
deals for the healthier section, it's the unhealthy section that is normally cheaper. Even though
burgers and fries are much more preferred than a salad. By decreasing the prices of healthy foods,
you not only are being considerate to the ones on special diets, but also you're giving people a better
opportunity to have a healthier, more positive life. As times change, our society seems to have more
and more difficulties of choosing the healthy side. For example: choosing between a black bean
burger and a pizza. But the factor of price still remains. Yet there are many reasons as to why eating
healthy is best for the body, and some specific conditions of which a healthy diet can prevent and
control are: Heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer. According
to pharmaceutical/biotech, Alissa Fleck, "From eating healthier, many would begin to stay healthy".
Decreasing the amount of people having to go to the doctors for issues that could have been solved
by a balanced diet. By following a healthy food plan, it will contribute positively to one's weight
throughout their whole life. Adding to that, a healthy food plan will improve self–esteem and

Healthy Eating Eating right is essential for positive motivation and clear thinking. The brain,
specifically the hypothalamus, along with the cerebral hemisphere works closely with physiological
stimulation. This includes all five of our senses, specifically speaking, taste. Explaining the brain
function associated with eating, I will discuss the influence of extrinsic and intrinsic factors, which
will include heredity and involving the environment. In addition I will discuss the motivation need
to succeed in eating healthy. The main function of the hypothalamus is homeostasis, or maintaining

However, it is how we learn to eat, hereditarily speaking that gives us the tools to start out eating
healthy from a young age or not. Lifelong food preference tends to start to develop while a baby is
still in the mother's womb. The strongest pattern for future food preferences is formed during the
age of 9 to 19 months of age (Vera, 2009). At this time, everything connected with food intake
leaves a strong imprint on the child's brain. Also, the baby is tasting everything with his or her
mouth; toys, shoes, body parts, etc. Concurrently, the child is memorizing the experiences of his
mother and fathers eating habits; what they are eating, what they are feeding the baby, their
emotional reaction to the baby's consumption of these foods all while the unsuspecting parents
believe that the child does not comprehend much of what is going on. The reality is the child is
forming food habits for a lifetime. Whatever the first tastes, textures, smells an sights of food are,
that child will crave them for the rest of his or her life, especially in moments of distress. Because of
this, it would appear that comfort food is not too far from the truth. This was often a time in a child's
life when their mom or dad focused much love and caring on them and purely through association
finds its way into our adult lives when we feel emotionally distressed or needing comfort. Human

Personal Philosophy Of Eating Healthy
My philosophy of eating or on how people should eat , is people should eat healthy . Like buying
fresh food , and or growing your own food. Not by eating fast food every day , i understand its
really good but it isn't good for you. People need to think about your body and how it will affect you
later on in life . Some people don't have the privilege to say what they want to eat , but you can flip
that around and actually put suggestions to your parents on what you want . Choose things wisely ,
check on how it is grow and or processed , look at what's in the product . It's really all depends on
how you want to change about your eating habits.
People shouldn't eat junk food as in chips , cookies , fast food , greasy things in general . If you eat
them all the time start limiting your amount of product you serve yourself a day. Like with chips
stop eating the whole bag like some people , and only have a few a day . It sounds hard at first but
once you start easing your way into it , you will get used to it . Go and see a nutritionist on your
eating , and on what you buy for yourself . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

i even buy it and think it will help. Always check what's in the product before you are buying and

The Importance Of Healthy Eating Habits
Good nutrition is a fundamental part of a person's health (Corbin et al., 2016). Healthy eating habits
can reduce risks of disease and support healthy body composition. Eating a diet rich in nutrient
dense foods combined with a regular moderate exercise routine also reduces overall body fat. Poor
eating habits have been linked to four of the seven leading causes of death in the United States. It is
imperative to implement healthy choices and teach our children healthy eating habits so that we can
improve the overall health of families. There are tools available to help people to eat better and to
change to a healthier lifestyle. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has published
in depth informational literature on the best eating habits for Americans called the Dietary
Guidelines for Americans. Their website also provides a number of tools to help Americans make
healthy decisions and track their eating habits. Over the years I have not always made the healthiest
dietary choices. Over the last few years I have made several attempts at eating healthier including
Beach Body's 21 Day Fix Diet and the Mediterranean Diet. I was not successful with either of these.
Recently I have started focusing on making more balanced meals that include a protein, a starch, and
a vegetable. After reading through the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, I see that I still have
some work to do. The USDA suggests that a variety of vegetables be consumed, with emphasis

I adore Gwyneth Paltrow. But much like my love of blue cheese and the Macarena, it's a devotion
my friends don't necessarily understand. "Gwyneth Paltrow–isn't that the one who tells people to

Sure, Gwyneth Paltrow is one of these celebrities with a bag full of life–improving advice. In

sugar, shellfish, deep sea fish, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, corn, gluten, meat, and soy,
a.k.a. everything that makes life worth living.
Shocked at this puritanism, my jaw dropped, and I'm pretty sure I spat out a few peppers and an

Eating Healthy Foods Essay
Eating healthy foods means choosing foods that help the body to function effectively. A family's
stamina and mental health can be improved and strengthened as well. Each family needs to know
how they can take care of themselves and how to live in this world to be healthy with foods. Ask the
doctors who know about their health problem and talk to a dietitian to find how to have better health
or read books and use recipes from Prevention Magazine. The family needs to know how to eat
healthy because it is helpful for their body to feel well. The family needs to know how to buy the
right foods, how to cook, and how much to eat.First, the family needs to know how to buy the right
foods. They can choose the right foods by looking at the labels on cans, packages and boxes of the
foods they want. These foods are healthy foods that are free of extra saturated fats and salt. Foods
that are unhealthy have lots of fat such as a hamburger, lots of cheese and fried in heavy fats. Eating
less fat, salt, and sugar can help to improve a family's health. When they go to the store, they need to
think first to buy the right foods that can help them. They might have to research to know what kind
of foods are healthy for their body. To promote good health several things can be done to help
families improve their eating habits and help each family member to feel better and have excellent
health. Using a magazine like prevention really helps because there are recipes for healthy foods and

Is Eating A Healthy Diet?
"Eat less, exercise more," We've all heard the oversimplified motto of the health industry spouted off
as a recipe for health and weight loss. Yet, for many that have attempted to follow this advice find
that the results they experience don't necessarily fall in line with what's expected.
So what went wrong? Maybe they went too far on the "eat less" spectrum. There's all sort of things
that can go wrong on that side of the spectrum. Low calories can cause the metabolism to slow
down by throwing your hormones all out of whack. Then there's the fallacy that somehow
consuming less junk (100 calorie snack packs, anyone?) is somehow better for you. It's kind of like
a pack a day smoker cutting down to a quarter pack. Better, but by no means good.
Let's say, for the sake of argument though (and the length and subject matter of this article), that you
are eating a healthy diet, with enough quality nutrients to keep your body humming along healthily,
with your hormones working great and whatnot. You revisit the aforementioned "universal truth" of
weight loss and, knowing that calorie restriction is not the answer, there appears to be only one other
way to go to work the equation in your favor.
You've got to exercise more, right?
Not so fast. We live in a "more is better" society so jumping to that conclusion seems to be the
logical step. We want more money, a bigger house, and another car in that driveway. Without
digressing into the pitfalls of consumerism, we're wired to need

How does healthy eating affect your life? Many people really pay attention to the food they put in
their bodies, until we get sick and need medical attention. I know that many of us love to eat fast
food, but it catches up with us in the long run. While eating healthy would stop you from getting
sick, and lower the cost of health care, healthy eating can enrich your body and prevent you from
getting high doctor bills. How can I eat healthier? Healthy eating means picking all natural foods

Once you know what to eat, now you have to consume too much. One of the biggest problems with
eating healthy knows when you have had enough. Not knowing when to stop can result in one
developing an eating disorder. There are many types of eating disorders. The main two types of
eating disorders people get from excessive eating is obesity and anorexia. Obesity is a disease of
excess fat tissue in the body, or when someone eats too much. Anorexia is when someone who has a
low self–esteem and often a tremendous need to control their surroundings and emotions by
consuming as little food as possible. Someone who is overweight will eat because they are not
happy with the way they look. Someone who suffers from anorexia starves themselves because they
are unhappy with the way they look. People with these certain eating disorders should come together
to help each other get through these hard times. One can get tired thinking about all of the
sicknesses one could get from eating unhealthy. High medical bills can leave one bankrupt. The
problem that comes with unhealthy eating also comes with high medical cost. Doctors who
specialize in illnesses dealing with eating disorders and heart diseases tend to have high premium
cost. You have to put at least six hundred dollars or more just for the visit. Medical illness can be a
financial nightmare leading to bankruptcy. (Jeanie Lerche Davis, Feb. 2, 2005,). The way our

It will also reduce the feeling of being deprived. It will also make you more aware of why you are
eating. For example, if you are eating in order to fill an emotional need, you are going to have to
face this. You are going to be aware that you are not hungry.
Before you begin eating anything, it is important for you to ask yourself if you are hungry.
Just by asking yourself if you are hungry, you are going to start becoming aware of why you eat.
Ask:
WHY am I eating? Is it because you are hungry? Are you bored or maybe it is because everyone else

WHEN do you feel like eating? Do you only feel like eating when you are hungry? Or do you feel
like eating when you are upset? Become aware of when you feel like eating.
WHAT are you choosing to eat? The only person that has control over what you are putting into
your body is you. It is important that you become aware of your food choices.
HOW do you eat? Do you eat sitting in the living room watching television or at your desk? Become

Opting for fresh fruits and vegetables can be one of the key points that are lacking and not included
in the diet of most people. This is primarily because of the price. However, an option that we can
take here is to try to find some local shops that sell out cheap but quality produce.
Farmers market is also another option that can give you low prices as compared with the
supermarkets and groceries. Making this big leap is not only a major benefit to your health but also
it can extend the shelf life of the products; this will in turn lower down the potential of wasting.
There are still other ways that you can do in order to eat healthy and smart. A lot of online
suggestions are also given. And take note that trying to make a healthy diet that you want to achieve

Healthy Behavior Is Associated With Healthy Eating
Healthy behavior is associated with healthy eating. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans is to
promote a healthy eating pattern and help reduce the risks of diseases though the nutrients intake.
"The goal of the Dietary Guidelines is for individuals throughout all stages of the lifespan to have
eating patterns that promote overall health and help prevent chronic disease." According to Dietary

getting plenty of exercise are the two most important things a person can do for their body to
maintain a healthy weight. When a person takes care of their body by eating healthy foods and

About 12.5 million children and teens, and over one–third of adults in the US have an obesity

The second strategy is treating yourself in small doses. When you are on a healthy eating diet, you
have to make sure that you do not deprive yourself of your sweet cravings. Instead of going crazy on
the sweets, ice cream, cake, pie, limit yourself to small amounts and only a couple of nights a week.
By doing this, your body is still getting the sweets that you crave and you can still stay at your
healthy weight. The main thing about this is to not let your body feel like you can't have something
because your temptations for that food will overcome you. The third thing is to eat less food more
often. This will help you feel satisfied and not feel like you are starving all day. When you eat five
or six smaller meals rather the three big meals, you will notice that it is easier for you to digest and
you will have more energy. The fourth thing is to make sure that you stay hydrated. Sometimes
when you think you are hungry, your body can actually be thirsty. Making sure you are drinking
plenty of water is a great way to stay healthy. The fifth thing is to snack smarter. Everybody snacks,
which is not bad, but the choice of snacks that we choose are not always good. When you are
stressed out and tired, it is easy to grab "junk food" to snack on so the best way to make sure this
does not happen is to shop healthier, buy healthy snacks, whether it be fresh

For example, a baked potato is noted on the food pyramid as being a healthy food choice. Once
cheese, bacon, sour cream, and butter are added, one begins pushing the limits of healthy eating. The
key for most people is to listen to what their conscience is saying. One of the first questions to
consider is; is there a feeling of hunger? If the answer happens to be no, then individuals should
focus their mind on other activities such as reading, walking, or bicycling. One should take
advantage of physical activities "he" or "she" and "his" or "her" acquaintances enjoy doing together
(Eating Healthy, 2006). When friends join each other in making healthy eating choices and keeping
fit, the success rate for accomplishing set goals becomes much greater. The possibilities of achieving
and maintaining good health is influenced by the company someone chooses to keep. One should
inform friends and family about new dieting goals and encourage them to eat healthy as well. Doing
so will develop a support system and encourage all to develop healthy lifestyles. There are steps that
people can take to begin making the change to a healthier life. First, eat in modesty by portioning

B) Diets are lower in calories compared to a typical western diet.
In the context of present time, one can therefore make two general assumptions in regard to the
question of what constitutes a healthy diet: 1) generally, the less a food is processed the better. 2) Eat
less – eat what is adequate, do not over eat.
Generally, the less a food is processed the better
He reason for this is simple. For 99.9% of human existence, our species lived on foods that were
either raw or minimally processed. The technology needed to increase food processing did not exist
until very recently. It is therefore reasonable to assume that our bodies are best adapted at utilizing
and dealing with the raw or minimally processed foods which sustained us, and our predecessors,
for millions of years: fruits, vegetables, meats, nuts and seeds. | Dried peaches are good for anemia,
fatigue and constipation. | |
Often, the more recent the food is, the more likely it is to be less beneficial or even directly harmful
– possibly due to lack of full adaptation to such foods. For example, it is estimated that food cooking
started about 500 000 – 250 000 years ago (depending on the source, the range may vary). During
this time frame, it is likely that human species have at least adapted in some way to very simply
cooked animal and vegetable foods. On the other hand, the beginnings of grain consumption are
much more recent. Evidence of earliest known,

The Controversy Of Eating Healthy
The article ¨The pleasure of eating¨ by Wendell berry was telling us about how mostly americans
mindlessly eat. The main argument berry had was that we don't what kind of junk we are eating.
What berry is trying to say is we do need to stop buying junk food and buying healthier food.
Claims that are trying to made in the article are the problem of obesity, to eat healthier and stop
wasting our money on junk food.
The problem with obesity in america is that there is too many people overweight by either a few
pounds or 100 maybe more. America is the number 1 most obese place in the world and sadly our
numbers will keep going up. We are so overweight because we give into buying junk food for the
cheap price. Our children are overweight because we don't give them the right foods they should be
eating. The weight is a problem and we need to fix it by doing 2 simply things; exercise and eating
healthy food.
Eating healthy is not difficult just eat right like how we should. Buying fruits and vegetables from a
local market is just one way to making things better. The most we can do to have a healthy life is to
look into how we can make our food we are eating. Look at our agriculture to be aware of what we

Four Key Components Of Eating Healthy Children
DEAR ABBY: It has come to my attention recently that my child Sterling who's seven refuses to eat
anything that is remotely healthy. He will eat anything that is covered in sugar or is very processed
e.g. fast food, frozen meals. I give in to his demands sometimes, but that is only because I want to
see him eat something. I am a very healthy person myself and I eat mostly fruits, vegetables and
chicken. I will consistently make him very nice and healthy dinners when the wife and I sit down to
eat, but he refuses to eat them. He seems to be healthy and he is growing like a weed, I just never
see him eat anything with the suggested nutrients a child should be getting. What would you
recommendations be in order to address this situation? The paths that I was considering were
holding out and keep eating as I normally do and maybe he will get hungry, or my other option is to
start giving him vitamins for the nutrients he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"1.) attitudes about eating; 2.) food acceptance skill; 3.) internal regulation skills; 4.) skills and

These are the end goals for your child to learn by the time they are on their own in order for them to
maintain a healthy lifestyle when it comes to nutrition and eating. The rules of eating need to be
taught regardless of whether Sterling is currently following the rules because he will use the
information when he is older. I would first of all address Sterling and make sure he understands just
how important it is that he practices safe eating habit even if he is not currently practicing healthy
eating habits. Make sure he sees you trying food that you have made clear you don't care for. If you
demonstrate this practice he will be more likely to try new food after he sees a role model go out of

Healthy Eating Habits
What you eat can impact your life forever Others might say having a healthier eating habit would
help you live a longer life. Some people are confused to what are "healthier eating habits". Healthier
eating habits is eating a certain type of foods (vegetables, fruits, fish) and it can help prevent heart
disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure. In an Article written by Janet Lee, she said "Eating
more whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and fish resulted in the largest improvements in diet scores".
These foods can help you prevent health problems. This is why people should have healthier eating
habits so they can live longer lives. Foods like vegetables and fruits will help you live longer than
eating something like a cheeseburger and fries. It's been statistically proven that "Around 2.7 million
people all over the world die every year due to the deficiency of nutrient–rich vegetables and fruits
in their diet."(Mukherjee). The less fruit and vegetables you eat the more you are going to have
health problems and will be more likely to have a sooner death then someone who eats their fruits
and vegetables. In thinking of my childhood I didn't have any healthy eating habits, I was always
eating junk food and soda. I thought nothing of it like many Americans do. Until I realize I was start

Why Is Eating Healthy?
I believe that eating healthy can teach a person discipline in life. This and exercising have been my
new lifestyle for now a year because I have seen benefits of living a healthy life. I live by this motto
every day. Learning how to live clean or healthy is not easy at all; first people have to do research
about what foods can, and cannot be eaten. Then, it's learning what vitamins, nutrients and
properties the body needs to make the metabolism go fast. I started to eat healthy because it can add
to any person 10 years of life. During the process of assimilating to my new style, I learned a lot of
things that now are very helpful to me. Even though the only point of eating healthy was to reduce
my body fat percentage, I also learned how to manage my time, the difference between quantity and
quality, and also how to resist temptations, like saying "NO" to junk food.
The first week was hard; I had to eat 6 meals per day at certain times that I was not used to eat at,
including the rules of eating like eating breakfast within an hour of waking up which is the most
important meal of the day. Sometimes I would put alarm on my phone to let me know the time for
me to eat certain meals like "7:00 breakfast" or "3:30 Snack 2". That also meant I had to wake up
early to be on point with my breakfast because my last meal or dinner was supposed to be before
7pm so that my body could digest it early. Soon, I started to go to sleep earlier and sleep the 9 hours
that our bodies need,

The Power Of Eating Healthy
The Power of Eating Healthy What would this world do today without fast food? Why is it cheaper
to eat unhealthy than it is to eat healthy? There are all these questions that we have about fast food
but if people realized what actually in these foods I don't think we would be wanting to keep putting
them in their body. This generation thinks they know everything so if you try telling them what's
good and bad there still going to say I don't care and keep eating it so it's hard to really help people
anymore. So what I am trying to get to is that why put unhealthy stuff in your body when you can be
healthy and put good in your body. Our body needs good healthy fresh grown organic stuff in our
body. Instead we keep putting all this processed food instead. I am telling this because I have had
my own personal experience with eating healthy and working out. I used to be 220 at the beginning
of the year around football season and I knew I was big and I was always called fat to and I always
said I was going to change and finally I found Mr. Townsend and he saw me one day at the Nampa

Can you imagine the vicious cycle created for the American poor? One of the endemic plagues of
poverty, poor nutrition, has been further compounded by the fact that the less money you have, the
less able you'll be to buy any truly nutritious foods. Dr. Adam Drewnowski, director of the center for
public health nutrition at the University of Washington, reveals the very real daily challenge those
on a tight budget face: "If you have $3 to feed yourself, your choices gravitate toward foods which
give you the most calories per dollar,'' not only are the empty calories cheaper, but the healthy foods
are becoming more and more expensive. Vegetables and fruits are rapidly becoming luxury goods."
(Dr. Drewnowski).
Older people are most likely to improve their eating habits, but nutrition is important for people of
all ages, says Walter Willet, M.D., chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of
Public Health. "We know that when people have health problems or their friends become ill, these
are strong motivators of change, the more serious the health condition, the more serious the change.
We'd rather have people make changes early and prevent health problems in the first place."

The Cost Of Eating Healthy
The Cost of Eating Healthy Wouldn't it be reasonable to consider that people just might eat healthier
if they simply had the money to do so? It would be interesting to consider that the people who
usually have bad eating habits, are the ones who actually can't afford to eat healthy. America has the
highest obesity rate in the world, but who knows where we could be if the healthy food was more
affordable and the junk food wasn't reasonably cheap. Illnesses and diseases have become common
too in people, many that come from just unhealthy eating that has taken a negative toll on the body.
Not to mention, people living in low–income areas where in those areas, the main thing around them
are fast food restaurants. The promotion of healthier eating and a healthier lifestyle, though, isn't
completely hidden from the public, though more ads about tasty junk food are on televisions,
billboards, and so on, more than food that will benefit your body and general health. These things
are all played into the fact that people already have a terrible diet, and the prices of foods that can
make someone's diet healthier are too high for most to even include them in their diet regularly.
Healthier foods should cost less because it can help lower the high obesity rate in America, it will
promote a healthier lifestyle to people to do things like exercise more, and it can help prevent life–

I get it eating healthy can be a problem for some people even though you may just be that person that chooses not to eat healthy it can still be a struggle. Everyone and their family enjoy eating things such as (Cakes,Pies,Ice Cream,Cookies, etc.) so why would you choose to eat healthy foods over that? The balance between your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high–fat foods, and not being physically active. Being obese increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and some cancers. If you are obese, losing even 5 to 10 percent of your weight can delay or prevent some of these diseases. For example, that means losing 10 to 20 pounds if you weigh 200 pounds. All of this can come from eating unhealthy foods. Anyone who struggles with food and eating can fall into habits that may lead to what professionals call disordered eating. Disordered eating can take many forms, ranging from unhealthy eating habits that keep you from losing weight. "Healthy functioning organs require adequate nutrition, and healthy hair follicles are no exception. Starvation diets that lead to severe protein–energy malnutrition can cause brittle hair or worse, hair loss. Studies show diets that are low in protein, essential fatty acids, and nutrients such as Vitamin C, zinc and iron are associated with hair loss, thinning, and loss of pigmentation." (Quoted by Kristin Kilpatrick) "Foods that are high in simple carbohydrates cause blood sugar to spike, which is followed by a blood sugar drop soon after. Often called a sugar crash, this is the reason a high carbohydrate, sugary breakfast or afternoon snack can leave you in an energy slump a few hours later. To help stabilize blood sugar ... However, it is essential to remember that not all cholesterol is actually bad for you. It is in truth, a natural substance which serves as a building block in the body for cells and hormones, and helps fat to travel through the blood vessels for use or storage in other parts of the body. However, a high blood cholesterol level can lead to a build–up of plaque in your arteries, which can in effect increase the risk of heart disease. • 7. Healthy Eating Persuasive Speech Outline Persuasive Speech: Making healthy Nutritional decisions. Specific Purpose: To persuade my classmates to make healthier nutritional choices. Thesis Statement: Healthy eating is not something to worry about down the road; we need to act now, while we are young to develop good habits for the future. 1. Introduction: a. Attention Getter: I visited Holly Drougas–our very own licensed dietician here at Virginia Western. I asked her, "What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word 'Nutrition'?" She shocked me by saying, "Confusion". With so much conflicting and confusing information from both the scientific community and the lay press, many people simply don't know what to eat to be healthy or to lose weight. b. Focus on Topic: Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Relevance: When it comes down to it, I'm not going to shove kale down your throat if you tell me that you just hate kale, even though it appears to be another one of the big health crazes. I'm just trying to show you all that eating healthy doesn't have to be a miserable experience, and despite our limitations as college students, we can overcome the hurdles of Availability, Time, and Money, to maintain a healthy diet. e. Preview: So today, we're going to talk about the wonderful world of Nutrition, and I'm going to try to convince you that carrots and celery aren't just rabbit food, but people food too. 2. Problem Step: a. Internal Preview: So let's start with some reasons as to why so many people are confused about what to eat: misinformation and marketing. b. Since 1992 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided the nutritional food pyramid, which has been the standard by which many have ascribed as far as recommended food intake. I'm sure this model looks familiar to most of you. c. Now, the USDA recommends "MyPlate", which was introduced in 2010, as the new guidelines for proper dietary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Why Is Eating Healthy? When the average person is in need of food, they're usually dealing with the conflicting feelings of whether or not they want to eat healthy, or just spoil themselves with junk foods. Dealing with those feelings, one thing decides for that person; the price. Granted that sometimes there might be good deals for the healthier section, it's the unhealthy section that is normally cheaper. Even though burgers and fries are much more preferred than a salad. By decreasing the prices of healthy foods, you not only are being considerate to the ones on special diets, but also you're giving people a better opportunity to have a healthier, more positive life. As times change, our society seems to have more and more difficulties of choosing the healthy side. For example: choosing between a black bean burger and a pizza. But the factor of price still remains. Yet there are many reasons as to why eating healthy is best for the body, and some specific conditions of which a healthy diet can prevent and control are: Heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer. According to pharmaceutical/biotech, Alissa Fleck, "From eating healthier, many would begin to stay healthy". Decreasing the amount of people having to go to the doctors for issues that could have been solved by a balanced diet. By following a healthy food plan, it will contribute positively to one's weight throughout their whole life. Adding to that, a healthy food plan will improve self–esteem and ... Motivation and the Brain Running head: HEALTHY EATING Healthy Eating University of Phoenix PSY 355 Stephanie Reyes March 29, 2011 Healthy Eating Eating right is essential for positive motivation and clear thinking. The brain, specifically the hypothalamus, along with the cerebral hemisphere works closely with physiological stimulation. This includes all five of our senses, specifically speaking, taste. Explaining the brain function associated with eating, I will discuss the influence of extrinsic and intrinsic factors, which will include heredity and involving the environment. In addition I will discuss the motivation need to succeed in eating healthy. The main function of the hypothalamus is homeostasis, or maintaining the body's state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is how we learn to eat, hereditarily speaking that gives us the tools to start out eating healthy from a young age or not. Lifelong food preference tends to start to develop while a baby is still in the mother's womb. The strongest pattern for future food preferences is formed during the age of 9 to 19 months of age (Vera, 2009). At this time, everything connected with food intake leaves a strong imprint on the child's brain. Also, the baby is tasting everything with his or her mouth; toys, shoes, body parts, etc. Concurrently, the child is memorizing the experiences of his mother and fathers eating habits; what they are eating, what they are feeding the baby, their emotional reaction to the baby's consumption of these foods all while the unsuspecting parents believe that the child does not comprehend much of what is going on. The reality is the child is forming food habits for a lifetime. Whatever the first tastes, textures, smells an sights of food are, that child will crave them for the rest of his or her life, especially in moments of distress. Because of this, it would appear that comfort food is not too far from the truth. This was often a time in a child's life when their mom or dad focused much love and caring on them and purely through association finds its way into our adult lives when we feel emotionally distressed or needing comfort. • 13. Personal Philosophy Of Eating Healthy My philosophy of eating or on how people should eat , is people should eat healthy . Like buying fresh food , and or growing your own food. Not by eating fast food every day , i understand its really good but it isn't good for you. People need to think about your body and how it will affect you later on in life . Some people don't have the privilege to say what they want to eat , but you can flip that around and actually put suggestions to your parents on what you want . Choose things wisely , check on how it is grow and or processed , look at what's in the product . It's really all depends on how you want to change about your eating habits. People shouldn't eat junk food as in chips , cookies , fast food , greasy things in general . If you eat them all the time start limiting your amount of product you serve yourself a day. Like with chips stop eating the whole bag like some people , and only have a few a day . It sounds hard at first but once you start easing your way into it , you will get used to it . • 15. The Importance Of Healthy Eating Habits Good nutrition is a fundamental part of a person's health (Corbin et al., 2016). Healthy eating habits can reduce risks of disease and support healthy body composition. Eating a diet rich in nutrient dense foods combined with a regular moderate exercise routine also reduces overall body fat. Poor eating habits have been linked to four of the seven leading causes of death in the United States. It is imperative to implement healthy choices and teach our children healthy eating habits so that we can improve the overall health of families. There are tools available to help people to eat better and to change to a healthier lifestyle. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has published in depth informational literature on the best eating habits for Americans called the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Their website also provides a number of tools to help Americans make healthy decisions and track their eating habits. Over the years I have not always made the healthiest dietary choices. Over the last few years I have made several attempts at eating healthier including Beach Body's 21 Day Fix Diet and the Mediterranean Diet. I was not successful with either of these. Recently I have started focusing on making more balanced meals that include a protein, a starch, and a vegetable. After reading through the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, I see that I still have some work to do. The USDA suggests that a variety of vegetables be consumed, with emphasis ... "Gwyneth Paltrow–isn't that the one who tells people to sustain themselves on algae and sprouts and to clean their vaginas with steam?" they often ask. Sure, Gwyneth Paltrow is one of these celebrities with a bag full of life–improving advice. In general, I hate people who try to tell me that my lifestyle isn't good enough. I, more or less, eat vegetarian–plus I did two sit–ups last week. I'm living my life the best I can. To me, keeping up with the newest trends in healthy eating is just as stressful and superficial as following the "crazy antics" of the Kardashians. This time last year, agave syrup seemed to be the it–thing for my health–conscious friends; last month, I baked a cake with it and was treated as if I was trying to slip them some crack. Apparently agave syrup is no longer healthy–it causes cancer. Why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A few days ago, I came across her cookbook It's All Good. Reading the foreword, I realized that me and GP are two totally different people. Living like me means drinking barrels of wine and taking the phrase "all you can eat" far too literally. If you want to live like Gwyneth, you have to say goodbye to the following things: coffee, alcohol, milk, eggs, sugar, shellfish, deep sea fish, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, corn, gluten, meat, and soy, a.k.a. everything that makes life worth living. Shocked at this puritanism, my jaw dropped, and I'm pretty sure I spat out a few peppers and an entire deep sea fish. • 21. Is Eating A Healthy Diet? "Eat less, exercise more," We've all heard the oversimplified motto of the health industry spouted off as a recipe for health and weight loss. Yet, for many that have attempted to follow this advice find that the results they experience don't necessarily fall in line with what's expected. So what went wrong? Maybe they went too far on the "eat less" spectrum. There's all sort of things that can go wrong on that side of the spectrum. Low calories can cause the metabolism to slow down by throwing your hormones all out of whack. Then there's the fallacy that somehow consuming less junk (100 calorie snack packs, anyone?) is somehow better for you. It's kind of like a pack a day smoker cutting down to a quarter pack. Better, but by no means good. Let's say, for the sake of argument though (and the length and subject matter of this article), that you are eating a healthy diet, with enough quality nutrients to keep your body humming along healthily, with your hormones working great and whatnot. You revisit the aforementioned "universal truth" of weight loss and, knowing that calorie restriction is not the answer, there appears to be only one other way to go to work the equation in your favor. You've got to exercise more, right? Not so fast. We live in a "more is better" society so jumping to that conclusion seems to be the logical step. We want more money, a bigger house, and another car in that driveway. Without digressing into the pitfalls of consumerism, we're wired to need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Someone who is overweight will eat because they are not happy with the way they look. Someone who suffers from anorexia starves themselves because they are unhappy with the way they look. People with these certain eating disorders should come together to help each other get through these hard times. One can get tired thinking about all of the sicknesses one could get from eating unhealthy. High medical bills can leave one bankrupt. The problem that comes with unhealthy eating also comes with high medical cost. Doctors who specialize in illnesses dealing with eating disorders and heart diseases tend to have high premium cost. When you are on a healthy eating diet, you have to make sure that you do not deprive yourself of your sweet cravings. Instead of going crazy on the sweets, ice cream, cake, pie, limit yourself to small amounts and only a couple of nights a week. By doing this, your body is still getting the sweets that you crave and you can still stay at your healthy weight. The main thing about this is to not let your body feel like you can't have something because your temptations for that food will overcome you. The third thing is to eat less food more often. This will help you feel satisfied and not feel like you are starving all day. When you eat five or six smaller meals rather the three big meals, you will notice that it is easier for you to digest and you will have more energy. The fourth thing is to make sure that you stay hydrated. Sometimes when you think you are hungry, your body can actually be thirsty. Making sure you are drinking plenty of water is a great way to stay healthy. The fifth thing is to snack smarter. Everybody snacks, which is not bad, but the choice of snacks that we choose are not always good. Generally, the less a food is processed the better He reason for this is simple. For 99.9% of human existence, our species lived on foods that were either raw or minimally processed. • 60. Why Is Eating Healthy? I believe that eating healthy can teach a person discipline in life. This and exercising have been my new lifestyle for now a year because I have seen benefits of living a healthy life. I live by this motto every day. Learning how to live clean or healthy is not easy at all; first people have to do research about what foods can, and cannot be eaten. Then, it's learning what vitamins, nutrients and properties the body needs to make the metabolism go fast. I started to eat healthy because it can add to any person 10 years of life. During the process of assimilating to my new style, I learned a lot of things that now are very helpful to me. Even though the only point of eating healthy was to reduce my body fat percentage, I also learned how to manage my time, the difference between quantity and quality, and also how to resist temptations, like saying "NO" to junk food. The first week was hard; I had to eat 6 meals per day at certain times that I was not used to eat at, including the rules of eating like eating breakfast within an hour of waking up which is the most important meal of the day. Sometimes I would put alarm on my phone to let me know the time for me to eat certain meals like "7:00 breakfast" or "3:30 Snack 2". That also meant I had to wake up early to be on point with my breakfast because my last meal or dinner was supposed to be before 7pm so that my body could digest it early. Soon, I started to go to sleep earlier and sleep the 9 hours that our bodies need, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are all these questions that we have about fast food but if people realized what actually in these foods I don't think we would be wanting to keep putting them in their body. This generation thinks they know everything so if you try telling them what's good and bad there still going to say I don't care and keep eating it so it's hard to really help people anymore. So what I am trying to get to is that why put unhealthy stuff in your body when you can be healthy and put good in your body. Our body needs good healthy fresh grown organic stuff in our body. Instead we keep putting all this processed food instead. I am telling this because I have had my own personal experience with eating healthy and working out. I used to be 220 at the beginning of the year around football season and I knew I was big and I was always called fat to and I always said I was going to change and finally I found Mr. Townsend and he saw me one day at the Nampa Rec center and we stared talking and I was telling him how I wanted I asked all ... One of the endemic plagues of poverty, poor nutrition, has been further compounded by the fact that the less money you have, the less able you'll be to buy any truly nutritious foods. Dr. Adam Drewnowski, director of the center for public health nutrition at the University of Washington, reveals the very real daily challenge those on a tight budget face: "If you have $3 to feed yourself, your choices gravitate toward foods which give you the most calories per dollar,'' not only are the empty calories cheaper, but the healthy foods are becoming more and more expensive. Vegetables and fruits are rapidly becoming luxury goods." (Dr. Drewnowski). Older people are most likely to improve their eating habits, but nutrition is important for people of all ages, says Walter Willet, M.D., chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public Health. "We know that when people have health problems or their friends become ill, these are strong motivators of change, the more serious the health condition, the more serious the change. We'd rather have people make changes early and prevent health problems in the first place." (Willet). You don 't necessarily have to eat "all natural" foods to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It would be interesting to consider that the people who usually have bad eating habits, are the ones who actually can't afford to eat healthy. America has the highest obesity rate in the world, but who knows where we could be if the healthy food was more affordable and the junk food wasn't reasonably cheap. Illnesses and diseases have become common too in people, many that come from just unhealthy eating that has taken a negative toll on the body. Not to mention, people living in low–income areas where in those areas, the main thing around them are fast food restaurants. The promotion of healthier eating and a healthier lifestyle, though, isn't completely hidden from the public, though more ads about tasty junk food are on televisions, billboards, and so on, more than food that will benefit your body and general health. These things are all played into the fact that people already have a terrible diet, and the prices of foods that can make someone's diet healthier are too high for most to even include them in their diet regularly. Healthier foods should cost less because it can help lower the high obesity rate in America, it will promote a healthier lifestyle to people to do things like exercise more, and it can help prevent life– threatening illnesses caused by unhealthy eating.
