Essay on My Technology Integration Vision
The coursework I have completed through the Distance Educational Technology Masters Program at
the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS), has immersed me in educational technology research
supported by collegial discussions. Through the supervised field–based activities from the UAS
program and my ongoing professional activities, I have developed a shared vision for the
comprehensive integration of technology. Technology integration has been my priority focus
academically and professionally. As I have developed a classroom environment conducive to the
realization of my technology integration vision, I have shared my vision with families and educators
in my school, district, and state.

Now, I strive to create an environment that supports learners with ongoing feedback related to
project–based and technology–infused learning experiences. I have used Ron Berger's book titled
An Ethic of Excellence: Building a Culture of Craftsmanship with Students as a guide for this
process. The process of class critiques, as described by Berger, has been especially effective in
creating a safe and collaborative learning environment (Berger, 2003). Applying the strategies
suggested in my research has helped me manage the change process in my classroom and has given
me insight about managing the change process in my school.
The complex social and historical foundations of education are rooted in the need to create a
population of citizens capable of contributing to the continuing economic and political stability of
our nation. First we were an agricultural society, then industrial, and now we are educating students
for futures with that are yet unknown (explainvisualthinking, 2007). The new dynamic, created by
the recent and rapid expansion of technology driven globalization has created the compelling need
for technology infused education in our schools (Friedman, 2005). As an educational technology
leader, I collaborate with other educators and families to create technology initiatives that will
support educational technology in our schools.

Instructional Programs For Technology Education
To develop meaningful instructional programs for technology education, goals need to be in place to
direct the outcomes of curriculum development and teaching. They go beyond everyday teaching
objectives; they are directed at long–term learning and programmatic outcomes.
Performance standards measure how much of the content the student is proficient. Opportunity–to–
learn standards ensure the learning is student focused, everyone has a right to education and that
education should be learner centered. For an educational technology standard to be most effective it
needs to recognize these three standards. International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)
has accomplished this with its National Educational Technology Standards (NETS). The standards
provided by NETS provide a comprehensive set of goals to encourage a technology integrated
education.
Introducing educational technology into the developing world is multidimensional and requires
many basic issues to be recognized and addressed. It is becoming recognized that telecentres and the
use of ICT in developing countries to assist in meeting the Millennium Development Goals is
becoming increasingly viable.

Overview of Act: What it entails
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act has become a large, nationwide issue, since President
George Bush signed it into law on January 8, 2002, giving the schools the responsibility to keep
every student's academic achievement at a passing level. (Florida Department of Education; 2003;
pg. 1) Each state had twelve years to have all students proficient in reading and math, which gave
each state less than a year to create a plan. (Kim & Sunderman; 2004; pg. 19) Title I, which is
included in this act, began in 1965 when the Elementary and Secondary Education Act was passed,

Proficient means scoring a three or above on a one to five scale on the Florida Comprehensive
Assessment Test (FCAT). Under the A+ School Grading System, any school rated "D" or "F" will
not make AYP. (Florida Department of Education; 2003; pgs. 2–3) Beginning in the 2005–2006
school year, schools must test reading and mathematics every year from grades three through eight
and once at the high school level. By 2007, science must be tested once from grades three through
five, once between grades six through nine and once between grades ten through twelve. The
assessments must contain multiple choice questions and well as open–ended questions. Each school

One activity that I accomplished in my individual learning plan was demonstrating to my students
that using online research databases and research–based practices will improve their learning.
According to the Technology Proficiencies at Walden University, The candidate designs and

Interoperability is a property referring to the ability of diverse systems and organizations to work
together. LIS professionals exchange of data, records, and messages between computer systems
across different hardware, operating systems, and networks. For example, a LIS professional uses an
online integrating library system project Marc records a standard record formats for bibliographic
information which was developed to serve library user and staff which is a form of communicating.
This system allows these organizations such as the National Libraries, the Library of Congress, the
National Library of Medicine and the National Agricultural library to communicate online. The

influence many things one of them is our Education and the Common Core law that had taken in to
effect back in June 2010. Even before the Common Core States standards were, official dozens of
states had adopted the standards. Now even though it all may look good on the outside does not
make it good. Many states supported the Common Core bill and they were actually excited about it.
In fact, even as most Americans are unaware that the common Core existed. The Obama
administration Secretary of education declared that the common Core State Standards might think
that this is the greatest thing that has happened for our public education in our lovely USA. The
trouble with the Common Core is not that it was the handiwork of Anti–Americans or Anti–Teachers
but that it was the work of well meaning, self–impressed technocrats who fudged difficult questions,

Community participation can improve education in the classrooms, however along it doesn't raise
the teaching standards. Teachers taking an active role in improving and changing education learning

With the fast growing advancements in technology, people in all age–groups, whether young or old,
are hooked on with these emerging technologies. The use of internet is prevalent showing its global
consumption. Social media have been available even to the young population. They are effective
means of communication, socialization, and in collecting and sharing information. However,
internet is becoming unsafe and hostile. They do not just serve its real purpose; instead they become

Upon reading both the Mississippi Arts Frameworks and the National Core Arts Standards, it
became very apparent that there were similarities and contrast in both their structure and content.
Both of these frameworks still have the overall goal of increasing both individuality, creativity, and
important life skills in students. Both of these frameworks highlight important artistic processes and
content, but both differ in the components that they contain as well. Additionally, both frameworks
still have the same universal goal as other subject area, which is to inform readers of what a student

No Secret That Our Educational System Has Flaws
It's no secret that our educational system has flaws, and that policymakers are often deeply divided
over how to address those flaws. One of the more divisive issues in education today is the creation
and implementation of a national set of educational standards, particularly in the subjects of
mathematics, science and English. Some people believe that creating a national curriculum and
applying it in all schools across the nation will help to improve our educational system; others
believe that the argument over national standards is merely distracting from the real problems, and
that a common set of standards will not solve any of those issues. I am personally in favor of
creating a nation–wide standard for education, although I acknowledge that the process of designing
and carrying out these changes will present numerous challenges for those to whom the job falls.
Still, I believe that a national curriculum would be a step in the right direction. As it stands, states
across the country have wildly differing criterion for what their students should be learning and
when they should be learning it. Two students, in the same grade, in different schools can be
learning completely different things in their classes. This creates problems for parents, students, and
teachers in our schools on a number of levels.

Cathy Davidson is an English and humanities professor at Duke University. She has published over
twenty books, many dealing with technology and education. In "Project Classroom Makeover," she

In the farming society of the early 1800's, education was not possible for many children. Horace
Mann, a farm boy himself and an early advocate for educational reform, saw the deficiencies in the
educational system. He pushed for "common schools" that would retain local control, be co–
educational and revolve around the agricultural year. Mann's ideas began to be adopted around the
country in the second half of the nineteenth century. By the start of the twentieth century, mandatory
public schooling was the norm. This was the height of the industrial revolution. As Davidson notes
in "Project Classroom Makeover", "Public Education was seen as the most efficient way to train
potential workers for labor in the newly urbanized factories (197)." Schools began to work like an
assembly line with a focus on efficiency, attention to detail, memorization of facts and staying on
task. Curriculum became standardized and states began to replace the local management of
education. Critically thinking outside the box was less valued. Regardless of ability, children started
school at the same age and were moved through their education in a regulated process. By the

Abstract
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curriculum in schools is undergoing a
revolution in public education. This revolution is sparked by an increase in federal funding over the
last decade. Between the years of 2011 and 2015, the federal government alone invested between
three and 3.7 billion dollars yearly for STEM education (Johnson, 2012) (White House Office of
Science and Technology Policy, 2014) and new STEM educational instructional strategies (Bruce–
Dacis, Gubbins, Gilson, Villanueva, & Foreman, 2014). Despite these new investments and changes,
many students are neither enrolling nor excelling in STEM programming, particularly students of
color (Museus, Palmer, Davis, & Maramba, 2011). Concurrently, many of the areas of greatest
economic opportunity exist in STEM related fields (National Research Council, 2011). In order to
overcome the opportunity gap that exists between White students and students of color, it is essential
for schools and districts to research and implement best practices related to STEM in classrooms.
The practices must not only be based in strong pedagogy and professional awareness, but also
include culturally responsive practices both within the classroom and the building (Johnson, Peters–
Burton, & Moore, 2016)and development of STEM mentors both in and out of the classroom (Ware
& Stein, 2013).

INTRODUCTION Our nation is LAGGING in academics compared to other nations, such as South
Korea, Finland, and Japan. According to Emmeline Zhao (2012), the students of the United States
scored lower on academic tests compared to other countries. However, the United States is not the
worst performing nation. Its academic growth is lacking (Zhao, 2012).
One way to compete effectively with other nations is Common Core for secondary education.
Common Core (2016), per its website, is designed to prepare students for the future by providing
standards in which a student should meet by the end of each school year. The main goals of the
Common Core are to build upon state standards and to draw from elements of top performing
educational systems to prepare students for the globalized society.
Some support the Common Core because it promotes a higher level of comprehension skills and
independent learning. Lucy Calkins (2012) mentioned that the Common Core should help students
read beyond the surface level, and placed the emphasis on a student's ability to master the academic
standards (p. 1). It helps prepare students for the real–world by understanding the nuances of the text
and emphasizing on the students' task on learning the standards and applying them in the real world.
Others oppose the Common Core because it does not sufficiently improve comprehension skills and
