Electronic dance music (EDM) is a broad genre made for nightclubs, raves, and festivals, featuring percussive electronic music mixed seamlessly by DJs. Popular EDM artists include Avicii, David Guetta, Tiesto, and Shrillex. Disco, a genre containing elements of funk, soul, and pop that was popular in the 1970s, inspired the development of EDM. Disco DJs pioneered techniques like scratching, developed further by Grandmaster Flash. In recent decades, EDM has expanded to include many subgenres for different styles of electronic dance music.
