Gulliver's Travel's - voyage Of Houyhnhnms
3. About Jonathan swift
•Jonathan swift was born on 30 November 1667 Dublin, Kingdom of Ireland.
• He died on 19 October 1745.
• His occupation was satirist, essayist, polical pamphleteer, poet, priest.
• He was the foremost prose satirist in the English Language.
•His work :
•Gulliver’s Travels (1726)
•Tale of a Tub(1724)
• A Modest proposal.
4. The voyage of Houyhnhnms
•The author sets out as a captain of a
ship. His man conspire him a long
time to his cabin, set him on shore in
an unknown Land. He Travel’s up in
the country , the Yahoos a strange
sort of Animal described. The Author
meets Houyhnhnms.
6. •Guliver’s visit to the land of the Houyhnhnms is described in
part Iv of his Travels, and its location illustrated on the map at
the start of part IV.The mape shows Houyhnhnms Land to be
south of australia,it indicates Edels Land and Lewins Land to
the north, and Nuyts Land to the north-east,on the mainland
with the island of st francis and Land st pieter further
east. The map is somewhat careless with the scale,
however;Edels Land to Lewins Land are shown adjacent,
while in reality they are some 1000 km apart, while the sweet
of the Great Australian Bight, from cape Leeuwin,Australia's
south-westerly point to the Maatsuyker Island, off the
southern tip of Tasmania,is over 3000 km.
8. •Yahoos – Hairy, eats meat.
•Houyhnhnms – horse, eats hay,
passionless, and dull.
•Houyhnhnms peaceful and
Trustworthy.
•More humanity than humans.
9. •Swift positions Gulliver midway — figuratively and literally —
between the super-rational, innocent horses (the Houyhnhnms)
and the filthy, depraved Yahoos. Gulliver, however, reacts to the
Yahoos with immediate and overpowering detestation and is
horrified by the Yahoos' similarity to him. He lacks the humility to
see himself as a sort of Yahoo. Rather, his pride leads him to try to
become a horse. Gulliver will try with admirable determination to
improve himself; he will try to change himself into a more horse-
like state, but he will fail. He is, simply, more of a Yahoo than a
Houyhnhnm.
10. Conclusion
Thus The voyage of
Houyhnhnms is very
different than other
voyage's, The voyage of
Lilliput ,Brobdingnag, and
Laputa.
