• Use keywords or phrases to search online journal
databases.
• Keyword searching is literal – you only get back
what you put in.
• Since concepts can be stated in different ways,
often you must try synonyms and different
combinations of words to get results.
• The database looks for keywords anywhere in the
record (title, author name, subject headings).
