Ms. Chris Hinton-Lee was selected to the Senior Executive Service in June 2003. In June 2007,
Chris joined the Corps’ South Atlantic Division in Atlanta, Georgia, where she provides executive
leadership and direction for the division and its subordinate districts to operate as an effective Regional
Business Center. She is responsible for strategic direction, business transformation, and financial
management in a military construction program for five neighboring states with 23 major Air Force and
Army Installations in the southeast to meet the needs of the American military. She is also responsible
for operating and maintaining more than 6,000 miles of federal navigable channel, and 29 major harbors
in the region. Additionally, since 2004, she has served as Chief Architect of US Army Corps of
Engineers, a position to which she was appointed by the Commanding General of the Corps of Engineers.
In 2006, she deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, where she served as Director of Reconstruction Programs, Gulf
Region Division, a Joint Service position. There, she directed the efforts of five hundred personnel (all
branches of the Armed Forces, multi-national civilians and Iraqi professionals) through six Military O-6
Sector Chiefs of Electricity; Oil; Public Works and Water and Facilities; and Transportation in the
execution of the $13B Iraq Relief Reconstruction Fund mission for the rebuilding of Iraq.
Upon her June 2003 selection to the Senior Executive service, she joined the Corps’ Great Lakes and
Ohio River Division in Cincinnati, Ohio, as the Director of Military and Technical (later, Regional
Business Director). There, she was responsible for the Corps’ military and civil design and construction,
environmental restoration and conservation programs, and water resources missions in 17 states covering
335,000 square miles in a $1.5 billion program which included operating and maintaining 3,400 miles of
commercial waterways on the Great Lakes and Ohio River systems carrying 43 percent of this country’s
inland waterborne commerce.
