My Teenage Experience
"Do you teenagers ever put your phone down?" If you are a teenager in today's society, I can almost guarantee you cannot count on one hand how many
times an adult has asked you this question. Due to the fact that I am a highschool student involved in many extracurricular activities keeping my brain
busy, I often catch myself forgetting to stop and realize all the "normal" daily expectations my generation has taken for granted. To say I was stunned
would be an understatement, as I reflected on how times have transformed in the short amount of time from my sister's teenage years compared to
mine. To evaluate an even more drastic change, the thirty four years between my mother, my aunt, and I was breathtaking. Almost acted as a culture
shock. Expectations including home life, transportation, and technology have drastically evolved in an oddly short amount of time. Growing up as the
youngest, I never understood the reasoning behind the dreadful thought of sharing a room with a sibling. I always begged and pleaded for "sleepovers"
located in my older sisters' rooms, who I absolutely adored and mimicked daily. After interviewing my mom and her little sister, I realized not
everyone viewed it as my innocent eyes once did. In fact, they formed polar opposite views. Both mentioned how several disagreements brewed from
sharing a room as a teenage. From simply one not cleaning their side of the room to the others expectations or fighting over whose turn it was to
accompany their room that weekend. This led me to evaluate how different today's home life runs. Each one of my friends have never even been
threatened to have to share a room with their siblings. In matter of fact, most of my friends have extra empty rooms in their houses. When informing
my mom and Aunt Julie about this, their mouths both dropped in amazement since they were constantly struggling to find houses with enough rooms
for everybody.
Another difference in developing expectations involves transportation. I never realized how major of a turn transportation has taken. Today almost
every sixteen year old I know has a car before they even got their license. And their car could easily be one of the fanciest cars they will posses in their
lifetime. My

Essay On Technology And Technology
The world is filled with technology, but is that a good thing? Technology is used for everything one can possibly need. Cell phones are becoming life
support to both teenagers and adults. Although technology has many benefits, it can be harmful to an individual's mental health. Technology can create
stress, anxiety, and a lack of sleep. If people started putting technology down, they could improve their mental health by turning their attention towards
something other than a bright blue screen in front of them. To begin, Weir (2017) explains in his article that "sleep stealers" are cell phones. Most
people ring their phones to bed at night to use as an alarm or in case someone calls or texts them. In a study conducted by Russell E.... Show more

Sleep is also good for growth in the body (Myers, 2014). Sleeping allows people's bodies to take a rest from being active, that is why sleep is necessary
because people's bodies cannot repair themselves while exerting energy, There are several consequences of losing sleep. In a study conducted using
15,500 kids ages 12–18, the researchers found that the kids who had 5 hours of sleep or less had higher depression than those who got 8 hours of
sleep or more. Less sleep can cause students to do poorly in school. Lack of sleep causes weight gain. Ghrelin is a hunger–arousal hormone, which
increases during sleep deprivation. The more sleep someone gets, the better their immune system can become. When one loses sleep they are putting
their immune system at risk because it does not have the time to fight off infections (Myers, 2014). Scientist use different research strategies
depending on what research strategy best fits the situation. Surveys are used to discover attitudes or behaviors of a certain group. The pros of using
the surveying method is that the researcher can look at the group's behaviors from the group's point of view rather than the researcher naturaling
observing them. The data collected can be very useful to the researchers. One of the cons of surveys is people can be bias. In the article the studies
conducted were not created in a way that could allow anyone to be biased. In some cases the survey questions can be bias, which results in an inaccurate

Telephone Consumer Protection Act Of 1991 And Fcc Policy...
BACKGROUND:
The Church receives contact information including telephone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, etc. that is provided by constituents
through our online website, direct mail, volunteer applications, offering envelopes and other means.
The marketing department wants to contact these individuals by telephone (live or automated calls), email and text.
They are seeking direction to determine what they need to do to secure permission to do this.
QUESTION:
What does marketing need to do in order to secure that they have permission to contact such individuals in the manner as described above?
APPLICABLE LAW:
Telephone and Cellular Phone Calls:
Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 and FCC Policy Guidance from 2015
The rules for obtaining cell phone consent have not changed for nonprofit organizations.
Expressed consent is still acceptable, meaning, the consumer could list his phone number on a document or a website as contact information and this
would be considered "consent". Consumers must have the right to revoke consent in any reasonable way at any time.
The rule change that became effective on October 16, 2013, was directed towards commercial sales calls and "express written" consent is now required.
The consumer must provide a signature, authorizing an organization to place calls to the cell phone and the language below would comply with this.
If a phone number has been reassigned the FCC now requires a company to stop calling

Negative Effects Of Widespread Cell Phone Use
Widespread Cell Phone Use In the modern–day world, there are about 6.8 billion cell phone subscriptions. Mobile telephones have really changed the
way we do things in our daily life. Before cell phones were invented individuals were more interactive with each other. In the late 1900's, Martin
Cooper invented the first mobile telephone. Today we have a variety of mobile phones to choose from such as Apple and Samsung. Widespread cell
phone use has definitely affected the world negatively because it is a distraction, can be harmful, and addicting. Widespread cell phone use is a
distraction to many individuals today. While being on their telephones they begin to network and meet other individuals. Networking is not always a
bad thing if people stay focused and determined on their goals. Eventually while networking they are going to meet someone they began to show
interest in. Which in many cases individuals get attached to the person their talking to and start losing focus from reality. They begin to procrastinate
from doing things that actually matter to them. Like for instance, instead of doing homework individuals would rather choose to play on their
telephones. Which can eventually can start affecting their school grades and cause them to drop. Parents need to start stepping in more and take
control in these situations, take away their phones if need be. What if it is a college student? They are technically adults so their parents cannot really
control them

Telephones And Their Impact On American Society
Telephones and their Impact on American Society Communicating with others has always been important. There have been different forms of
communication over the many years like messenger's, letters, telegraphs, and even radios. With all those ways of connecting to others, none have
been good or effective enough to reach out to the people one would wish to talk to. Our society has changed in a huge way and part of the reason for
that change is the telephone, and as we progress throughout the years technology becomes even more developed and more influential to our society.
When and where the telephone was invented The idea of the telephone came along sooner than the real world made it out to be. Antonio Meucci was
credited with inventing the first basic phone, Alexander Graham Bell constructed the first telephone and in 1876 and he... Show more content on

Amazingly, changes around telephone technology have been more prevalent than to the changes in basic technology itself. Phones now have circuit
boards and various electronics that take place of rotary dials, the microphone and receiver may be made of the same membrane–carbon–electromagnet
assembly like they have been made for years, or they may create the variance in electric current some other way. But there is always a membrane
which vibrates due to the sound of your voice and electric current varying because of it and the current may be converted to an FM radio signal
before being broadcast to your phone but it is still the same variance that carries your voice. Before, the human voice couldn't create enough power to
make telephones practical, a call from only a few miles away would be impossible even with stronger magnets. In 1877, Thomas Edison designed a
new designed and patented transmitter that could easily utilize the special property of carbon and a call with a much greater distance and

Argument Essay On Texting While Driving
Paola Bojorquez Pro. Wenzell English 100 21 September 2016 Essay #1 Texting while driving It's time to stop texting while driving. Most of the
accidents are accused of distracted driving and most of the distractions are most of the time caused by cell phones. However, some opponents feel that
creating a law against cell phone use infringes their personal rights. Other people assume that prohibiting from someone from using their cell phone is
the same thing in just like telling someone that they can't adjust their radio or chat with someone else in the car. However, using a cell phone, whether
you are texting or talking, while driving can be extremely dangerous; That should be made illegal in the fact that it is very hazardous to... Show more

Nowadays, texting while behind the wheel forgets about the amount of drunk driving according to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration. Texting while driving is six times more likely to cause a wreck than drunk driving. You are approximately 23 times more likely to
wreck if you are texting. Texting while driving is equal to driving blind for 5 seconds each text and through those 5 seconds, you can commit an
accident or even kill a person. Being familiar with changes in technology with cell phones and texting, the newer phones make it even easier today to
text than it did 10 years ago. Today some phones have built–in keyboards, touchscreen keyboards, and phones without that are self–aware built in to try
to figure out the word based on the spelling so once the correct word comes up you can just touch it and it will be right there for you in the text
without you having you spell the word correctly or not. According to kelly (2012), about "six billion messages are sent a day and over 2.2 trillion in
the US, (Kelly, 2012). The worst violators are high school seniors, 58% have said they have texted while they were driving within the month before the

Cellphones are a way communicating with someone that is not near you. Cellphone have been around for about for 40 years, and before cellphone
there was the telephones. Telephones have been around for more than 100 years. Telephones was usually kept in the house and shared with the
members in your family. Today everyone has their own cell phone that can fit in their pockets or purse, so it can be taken anywhere you go. Cell
phones counties to evolve as technology is advancing. May 24, 1844, Samuel F.B Morse sent the first telegraphic message. The first telegraph message
was sent from Washington, D.C to Baltimore, Maryland. By 1866 the telegraph line was across the Atlantic Ocean sending messages for the U.S to
Europe. The telegraph revolutionized long–distance communication, it worked by transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between stations (1).

launched the telephone era with the first bi–directional electronic transmission of the spoken word (2). After Alexander Graham Bell creating the

Kaze No Denwa Short Story
Kaze No Denwa
It is April 11, 2011, and one month has passed since the great Japanese tsunami splintered the island. In a small coastal village, a man parks his car
at a distance and walks towards the only object in a large field: Kaze No Denwa, the "Phone of the Wind." Tears begin to well in his eyes as he feels
the gentle breeze wash over him. His shoes crunch the loose gravel underfoot. On this day, there is no–one else around.
In the middle of the field stands a white phone booth. It glows boldly in the bright afternoon sunlight. The man walks along a winding path through
low–cut, manicured underbrush. He reaches the phone booth, slides open the door, and enters. He takes his time, looks around, and finally picks up
the receiver from atop an old–fashioned black rotary phone. He places a finger into a small circle at his desired number, gently spins clockwise,
releases, and repeats nine times. The phone in Kaze No Denwa is connected to nothing; there is no electricity here, no dial tone even, but the man is not
surprised.
"If you can hear me," he says, "please listen carefully."
He stops, looks around the tiny phone box, and sobs, wiping the tears from his eyes with a sleeve.
"Please, let me hear your voice say 'Daddy' again." He covers his eyes with the sleeve and gently whispers, "I'm so sorry I couldn't save you. I will
forever be sorry and shamed." His head falls, his eyes close.
His name is Satsuko. He has travelled far to visit Kaze No Denwa. The great tsunami has brought havoc and, with it, many lives have gone to that
place where spirits reside. Sadness has punctuated the land, and Satsuko is in its midst. His face and demeanour are altered. Kaze No Denwa, the
Phone of the Wind is becoming well–known. Its back–story and sentiment have resonated with the people.
He read about it in a magazine published the year prior; the story of an old man's burning wish, long before the tsunami, to communicate with his
deceased relative. A phone booth was set in the middle of a field tilled by hand and hoe for generations, a place for the old man to air his grief, where
his breath could catch the wind and set out across the field, down the cliff face, and across the vast blue Pacific.
Satsuko moves slowly.

The Importance Of Technology
Today, people open their phone more than they open a book. Technology gives us an opportunity to connect with people whom we are unable to meet
daily. In our current culture technology and the media affect every part of life. The advancements in technology over the last century have changed the
world. Technology improves the efficiency of education, medicine, transportation, entertainment, business, and lifestyle. Every part of our daily life is
related to technology in one or other way. It has made many tasks so much easier. The worst effect of these phones is when you're with someone and
they are unable to hold a conversation because their phone is so activated. Technology is one of the unsurpassed things in the world, but it is also one...

People addicted to the internet or cell phone feel lonely and isolated. The gap between parents and kids or friend to a friend has increased
considerably. Many people misused social networking site to harm other people n.a.2012. People are also losing their ability to write properly. They
use shortened words instead of full words. When they are around other people, they don't even interact with the people because they're either watching
a movie, playing a game, or staring at their latest mobile devices. The letters and lengthy face–to–face conversations have disappeared. It has been
replaced by texting, chatting, and video calls. People choose to text or phone call rather than have a face to face conversation, which makes a
distance between people. Now, most families eat dinner around a TV or barely speak to each other about what's happening in their lives. Some
televisions are left on all day in some houses and apartments. Technology does not only make people less communicative, it also makes people
physically less active.
Furthermore, technology affects people's sleep in many ways than they even realize. People get sucked into online activities that keep them up too
late, which leads to getting less sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, in 2014, it was found that 89 percent of adults and 75 percent of
children ages six to 17 sleep with at least one electronic device in their bedroom. According to a National Sleep

Article Review of 'The Sarbanes: Oxley Debacle'
Article Review: SOX The article entitled "The Sarbanes – Oxley Debacle" written by Henry Butler and Larry Ribstein discusses their viewpoint of the
eponymous piece of legislation. From the adjective that the two use in describing the Sarbanes Oxley Act, it is obvious that they are critical of the
legislation and believe that it fails in its endeavors to create accountability or punishment for organizations and businesses that fail to perform ethically
and legally. In 2002, the United States government passed a law which is called the Sarbanes–Oxley Act (SOX). It is also known as the "Public
Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act" or the "Corporate and Auditing Accountability and Responsibility Act." The intention of
the legislation was well–intentioned and the authors do not deny this point. What they believe is that the issues that are discussed in the
Sarbanes–Oxley Act are not being properly resolved with the piece of legislation and that it requires substantial alterations if not outright abolition. One
of the major issues that Butler and Ribstein (2006) take with the Sarbanes–Oxley Act is that the law was put into place quickly and in response to
current economic disasters. Instead of allowing time to pass and for substantial amounts of analyses to be conducted in order to determine the best
course of action, legislators were responding to several high–profile cases of business malfeasance, such as in the case of the Enron Corporation. People

We The Animals Summary
In Justin Torres' We the Animals, he tells a chaotic coming
–of–age story about three young brothers through loosely related vignettes. By the time the
distressingly tense passage begins, the boys' abusive father ("Paps") has abruptly disappeared, leaving their mother ("Ma) to run the household along
until he returns. Although Torres consistently cultivates an unflinchingly intimate, heart–wrenching style, this passage in particular highlights the
ceaseless anxiety he imposes on both the characters and the reader.
Torres begins the passage with an uncomplicated establishment of the scene and Ma's after–work routine, massaging her feet while Paps' phone call
rings and the boys eat what little dinner they have. These first three short, simple sentences contain parallelism and each begin with the most
fundamental sentence structure ("she joined us," "she unlaced her work boots," "the phone rang"), constructing a nonchalance in the mother's
movements, even as she makes the severe decision to ignore her missing husband's calls in front of her children. This indifference soon turns into a
smile, an even greater contrast to the enormity of the situation.
The end of this paragraph introduces Torres' habitual use of repetition as the narrator reveals, "She knew where Paps was at, knew the secret of his
urgency," and contrasts this knowledge with their ignorance. Although Torres generally uses basic diction, perhaps to reflect the narrator's young age,
he employs higher–level

The Negative Effects Of Cell Phones

smartphones with them everywhere they go has started to become a problem regarding the way we connect with others. We need better cell phone
etiquette because without it the way people intermingle could completely change in a negative way. A lack of a stricter cell phone etiquette has led
people to stop interacting with each other, live their lives through small screens, and has even begun to affect their real lives. To begin with, weak cell

Pizza is no longer the only thing being delivered to doorsteps all over the world, now people can have burgers, tacos, and even full meals brought

The Impact Of Mobile Telephone Technology On Human Social...
As afore–discussed, telephone technology has overwhelming positive impacts (e.g. space adjusting; 'intimacy at a distance') on human lives, yet recent
scholars (e.g. Ling, 1997; Caporael and Xie, 2003; Campbell and Park, 2008) illustrate some negative impacts of telephone uses, especially mobile
telephony, on human social lives. The first negative impact brought by mobiletelephone is the use of public space privately. According to research
findings of Campbell and Park (2008), the negative social impacts of mobile telephone technology firstly lied on using mobile telephone in public
space (e.g. park; restaurant; shop; school) as one's 'personalised public space', that is, public space is appositely designated for personal objectives. In a
public setting, for instance, mobile telephony always offers its users 'unsolicited melodies' and the 'copresent bystander' way to interact socially;
consequently, the bystanders unconsciously become audience of the telephone conversation (Campbell and Park, 2008: 377). Moreover, the study of
Ling (1997) noted that there are some settings (e.g. theaters; meetings; restaurants; trains; churches) in which bystander basically found mobile phones
irritated, offended or embarrassed when someone uses mobile telephony. She also claimed that chatting on the mobile telephone in a public space often
compel copresent others towards an awkward situation of unwillingly eavesdropping (Ling, 1997). Arguably, uses of telephone technology,

Persuasive Essay On Texting While Driving
Most people believe that only texting is harmful while driving, but talking on the phone may be just as harmful. While most believe that talking on a
cellular device is harmless, it is in fact, a distraction. The roads would be a much safer place for drivers if the amount of distractions were limited.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveals that there are several reasons why talking on the phone while driving should be illegal
in all states. One of these reasons is that car accidents are one of the most prevalent causes of death in the United States; and distraction is the number
one cause of car accidents (Currin). Many people think that as long as you talk on the phone using a hands free device, it is perfectly safe. While
many people agree with this, that is not the case. It is not the act of driving with only one hand that is the problem, but it is that the driver must
multitask when processing the information that the caller is saying. This is especially a concern with emotional conversations (Svenson and Patten 182).
Some drivers believe that as long as you keep your eyes on the road, it is fine to answer and make phone calls while driving. This point is not valid,
because distraction can be anything averting concentration, not just looking away from the path of travel (Svenson and Patten 182). Drivers must
become more aware of this problem, especially in our advancing technological age. Many people may suggest that conversing with a passenger
poses the same risks as talking on the phone. This is a valid point, but David Strayer, a cognitive scientist at the University of Utah, agues that having
a passenger in the vehicle actually promotes safer driving since there are four eyes on the road instead of only two. Adams writes that Strayer says
that "passengers tend to stop talking when the demands of driving increase." The helpfulness of having another set of eyes in the vehicle with the
driver does not carry over with teenaged driving (Adams).
Some might say that as long as the person operating the vehicle is a good driver, his driving skills should not be affected by talking on the phone
while driving. Contrary to popular belief, talking on the phone while driving, even with a

I would even mandate that current cars still on the line right now be fitted for such a docking system. I know it would be a hassle, and would put a

the money invested into creating the technology.
Renee Partida: my opinion is simple, there is no need to be using your cell phone whether text or calling or face booking while driving. I think people

she became very distracted with driving. There are so many things that can and will distract driving we don't need to have one more and cells phones
are adding another problem to the long list that already exist. I would love to see the law changed on this issue.

Taking a Look at Mobile Technolgy
Mobile technology is the technology people use it all the time in their everyday life. In the early nineteenth century there were only rotary phones
which are lot bigger than cell phone we have it now a days. Not everybody had rotary phone because if we look at their time history, having a
phone meant a lot back at that time. After cellphone came in life became a lot easier. Now a day everybody have phone including children's and
senior citizens as well. After years of research and experiment, cellphones have become so small that we can put it in our pocket as well.
According to one of the New York Times article Flight from Conversation "I've studied technologies of mobile connection and talked to hundreds of
people of all ages and circumstances about their plugged in lives." (Par 3).Mobile technology has changed the face of the modern world. Technology

Sadaba–Chalzquer, 2017). For instance, this is commonly seen at parties that new generation students do not like to come in front elder people
because they feel shy. Some students do not like to spend time with their family as due to an addition to mobile phones. There are the lethal bacteria
in this device that results into fever, vomiting and diarrhea (Cell phone radiation causes many incurable diseases). The brain cancer is correlated with
the phone use but this needs some time to prove that it is true as it is an ongoing investigation (Cell phone radiation causes many incurable diseases).
In addition, using mobile phones at night when you are going to sleep can cause insomnia (Cell phone radiation causes many incurable diseases).
There are several other health diseases that are caused due to the use of electronic devices those are headaches, impaired memory and concentration,
fatigue, dizziness, distracted sleep and impact of vision (Cell phone radiation causes many incurable diseases). Nowadays, it is rare that any student is
without spectacles for vision but some student does not apply the vision glasses as it affects their fashion. Most of the students are

Argumentative Synthesis 1
Rebecca Crockett Shannon Lerro Argumentative Synthesis November 4, 2010 Does talking on the phone while driving affect the driver? Drivers
shouldn't be able to use phones while driving because it can be extremely hazardous for not only them but their passengers, or others traveling along
the same road. If changing a radio station is considered a major distraction to drivers, how is it not a distraction to look down to find your cell phone?
Cell phones, have been known to cause wrecks that can even result in fatalities. In a recent article , "Distracted Driving: Should Talking, and Texting
Be Banned" It clearly states that we weren't trained to operate a heavy steering vehicle, while also operating a small handheld computer. Research...

As he proceeded through the course his mind began to wonder as he focused on fulfilling his task. His driving began to worsen, and he tipped over
cones as a result of this. The point of the exercise was to demonstrate that the brain when forced to multitask can't fully concentrate on each individual
task. The policemen who gave licenses to individuals, was affected by this experiment, imagine the normal person's response when presented this task.
The National Safety Council (NSC) is advocating legislation to ban all types of cell phone use on the road, including hands–free usage. Anticipating
some of the arguments against cell phone bans, the NSC admits other in–car activities are more dangerous than using cell phones. However, the group
says as cell phone use becomes more popular, it has become more dangerous overall. Now, six states have bans on driving while talking on a
hand–held cell phone: California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Utah and Washington. It's also become banned in the District of Columbia,
and at least five other states have cities and towns with bans. Talking on a phone while driving is dangerous, period, and our advice to drivers is to
simply don 't do it," Jonathan Adkins, spokesman for the Governors Highway Safety Association of Washington, Dc said last year. "It taxes the
cognitive skills of your brain at the expense of the driving at hand, and if the conversation is stressful your reaction time will not be as quick. Also,

Regulate Use of Cell Phones on the Road
When a cell phone goes off in a classroom or at a concert, people are irritated, but at least lives are not endangered. When on the road, however,
irresponsible cell phone users are more than irritating: They are putting our lives at risk. Many of us have witnessed drivers so distracted by dialing
and chatting that they resemble drunk drivers, weaving between lanes, for example, or nearly running down pedestrians in crosswalks. A number of
bills to regulate use of cell phones on the road have been introduced in state legislatures, and the time has come to push for their passage. Regulation is
needed because drivers using phones are seriously impaired and because laws on negligent and reckless driving are not sufficient to punish offenders...

The latter statistic is interesting, for it suggests that those who carry phones in their cars may tend to be more negligent or prone to distractions of all
kinds than those who do not. Some groups have argued that state traffic laws make legislation regulating cell phone use unnecessary. Sadly, this is not
true. Laws on traffic safety vary from state to state, and drivers distracted by cell phones can get off with light punishment even when they cause fatal
accidents. Although the midshipman mentioned earlier was charged with vehicular manslaughter for the deaths of John and Carole Hall, the judge
was unable to issue a verdict of guilty. Under Maryland law, he could only find the defendant guilty of negligent driving and impose a $500 fine
(Layton C1). Such a light sentence is not unusual. The driver who killed Morgan Pena in Pennsylvania received two tickets and a $50 fine––and
retained his driving privileges (Pena). In Georgia, a young woman distracted by her phone ran down and killed a two–year–old; her sentence was
ninety days in boot camp and five hundred hours of community service (Ippolito J1). The families of the victims are understandably distressed by
laws that lead to such light sentences. When certain kinds of driver behavior are shown to be especially dangerous, we wisely draft special laws
making them illegal and imposing specific punishments. Running red lights, failing to stop for a school bus, and drunk driving are obvious

Effects Of Cell Phones
Are Cell Phones Destroying a Generation? The onset of cell phones has had a great impact in the modern society, and especially the millennials or the
teens, and as such it has led to the destruction of a generation. It is apparent that what researchers call the iGen, people born between the year 1995
and the year 2012, depend greatly on their cell phones and their well–being majorly depends on their cell phones (Twenge 188). Researchers also prove
that the iGen value their cell phones more that the real people because which proves that the cell phones dictate every aspect of their lives. The onset

The among the degree of lack of happiness among the Millennials is hinged on the discontinuity of generational trends that has been witnessed across
the decades. In this way, the onset of cell phones changed every aspect of teenager's lives. The unhappy nature of the Millennials is evident in a study
that was conducted by the Monitoring the Future survey which paints a clear picture about screen–generated crisis among the youth. There is
additional proof of the way cell phones has made Millennials unhappier that their predecessors, and this is apparent from the fact that all screen
activities and links to less happiness and all the non–screen activities are linked to more happiness (Chatterjee 82). Researchers also posit that the
eighth–graders that spend 10 or more hours per week on social media tend to be 56 percent more likely to confirm that they are unhappy compared to
those that spend less time on social media. The case is different when the effect of the twelfth–grade data is examined as there is realized similar levels
of happiness disregarding the fact that they might be either on the higher or lower end of the use of cell phones and social media in general (Twenge

Advantages of Technology in K12 Schools
While computers and technology have become an integral part of society today, schools and colleges, for the most part, seem to generally avoid the
use of communication devices in the classroom. In fact, many teachers, especially those who are from a more traditional teaching background, appear
to regard devices such as cellphones in the classroom as some sort of "evil" to be entirely avoided. Students caught using these devices are then
punished by methods such as confiscating the cellphones to be handed back after the class or after another specified length of time. Shelly, Gunter and
Gunter (2011, p. 1), however, suggest that technology in the classroom is a vital component to help students make the most not only of their experience
in the classroom, but also to benefit in terms of learning. Because computers, technology, and the Internet form such a vital part of our lives today, it is
important to use this component to enhance the learning process. The authors also emphasize, however, that the use of technology in the classroom is
not without its pitfalls and controversies. Indeed, cellphones, as mentioned above, could be extremely distracting when their use is not strictly
monitored. Also, not all teachers are equally willing or able to enhance their own knowledge of computers in order to use this effectively in their
classrooms. For this reason, entities such as the International Society for Technology in Education (2012) have published the NETS document to

Customer Service At The Cable Industry
Customer Service In our extensive research on Time Warner Cable, we found out that Time Warner is one of the biggest names in the cable industry.
On the other hand they are know to have notoriously bad customer service which in turn limits the amount of customers they bring in and increases the
amount of customers that cancel their service. To deal with these problems we have come up with multiple marketing recommendations. In order to get
rid of the reputation of bad service Time Warnerhas to advertise their new and improved customer service so that people will want to buy from Time
Warner Cable. One way to start improving customer service is to offer online survey so that the customers know that their opinion is whats most
important to Time Warner Cable. The survey will not just ask if their problems were solved or if the representative was good. It will ask in depth
questions about what the customer thought about that particular representative. They also can give follow up surveys a few weeks after a phone
call. These surveys will be there to see if the problem that the customer experienced is arising again and to make sure that there are no new problems.
These surveys show that Time Warner Cable truly does care for the wellbeing of their customers. Along with surveys Time Warner Cable can also
offer holiday specialties such as reduced prices for the holiday season. They can market this by saying that they understand that a lot of money is being

Technology : Teens And The Negative Effects Of Technology
Effects of Technology Mobile devices have been strictly affecting teens in a negative way. Numerous teens struggle academically because of their cell
phone usage. When young adults are constantly on their cellular devices, they will begin to experience negative effects of social media and other
websites that they use as a distraction. Most teens don't know the misfortune that they can get into if they don't know how to use the internet right. As a
result, they start to have poor habits, having to check their social media even when it's unnecessary. "Smartphones present a huge distraction in
classrooms, where teachers are forced to compete for students' attention" (Katz). Not just in classroom, but also getting into trouble for using the...

getting enough sleep can make it even harder to concentrate. Seems like it's not a big deal, but imagine someone who has an important job and
doesn't do the job how it's supposed to be done. "Most of the teens keep their cell phones nearby while sleeping to respond texts and calls. They feel

As a consequence, various individuals can hacked on their accounts for tweeting their personal information or getting themselves into websites they're

Smartphones : The Problems And Effects Of The Smart Phone
Nearly all of the today's society has a smartphone in hand. As a whole, we depend on this phone in the same aspect as we did a baby blanket in our

biggest concerns when it comes to owning a phone, unfortunately, the effects are not fully realized. These devices have brought several problems in

Users no longer depend on their own brain to help them know what they need to, the smartphone is relied upon completely and when it dies or is
damaged those people are utterly lost on what to do. As Christian Louis Lange has stated, "Technology is a useful servant, but a dangerous master."
Treated as if it is the memory, people no longer attempt to remember events on their own. Stress is encountered in everyday life and technology
does not give the individual the opportunity to step away. The constant use of these devices gives no breaks to the user, always looking at emails,
calls, texts, and social media. The younger generation especially struggles with this feeling of being unable to get away. "The majority of their
participants reported that they felt they were expected to be available around the clock, which increased feelings of stress" (Ofcom Report, 2011.)
The feeling of constantly needing to check one's device only amplifies this feeling of stress and inescapability. This need to know what is happening
in the outside world at all times is almost like an addiction, that if a user does not answer or check their smartphone they will be missing out on
critical events. The inability to withdraw causes the stress of work or school to follow wherever that person goes and the stress of being connected is
never ending in society today. Smartphones were originally intended to help users live more efficient, stress–free

or a text goes off then the class gets disturbed, and most likely the teacher will take the phone, or she will give you a warning.
Many students would cheat on test if they had the chance to. If they were able to take a test on their phone all it would do is make it easier to
cheat on the test. It would do that by during a test, opining another tab and looking up the question and simply coping the answer down from the
website they looked up. If the teacher was coming all the student has to do is change the tab back to the test page, and then the student will not get
in trouble. If the school supplies chrome books and log them onto the schools WiFi then at least the school can record what the student looks up.
That means if a student looks up something bad or answers to a test, that means the will most likely will get caught and will lose their privileges to
get on the chrome book. For example if I looked the question to this really hard science test and I got caught doing it, and the principal tells me I
lost my privileges to use a device when I take a test because I was dishonest and cheated on the test, so I will have to redo all my test on paper.
Another way students could cheat on a test on the phone would be to text somebody that is

numerous other ways that educators can use laptops or devices in their classrooms. Another study on the effect of laptop integration and student

Cell Phones Should Not Be Banned from School Property
As one enters any local high school in the United States, they will be sure to see teenage students with their cellular telephones in hand. One may say
the use of cell phones should be banned on school property, however there are many instances in which that may not be the best idea. Parents need to
know that their children are safe and those children need a way in which to contact their parents if an emergency arises. If their child is not permitted
to have their cellular telephone with them at school, the parent loses that sense of security. Cellular telephones should not be banned for students' use
on school property for many reasons, including, emergency situations, changes in after school plans, and if the child commutes home on a school bus
or walk. A common argument against this position is that cellular telephones should be banned on school property because of potential cheating,
misuse, and harm, but all students should not be punished for the actions of some. There are many of tools that students can utilize in order to cheat if
that was their goal. Randi Weingarten is the parent of a child who's school did impost a ban of the use of cellular telephones on school property. When
speaking on the subject of teenagers using cell phones in order to cheat in class Weingarten says, "But does that mean we should ban any material that
can be used for cheating– including pencils and pens". Teachers and staff can help in making sure that students are not inappropriately

has its own behavior and purpose. Almost a year has been past already since the Galaxy Note 4 came out. Many Galaxy fans were waiting for this.
They even got more excited when Samsung presented their unexpected new Galaxy Note Edge. Now, the Galaxy Note fans are in trouble because
they have to choose between Galaxy Note 4, which is reliable and credible, and Galaxy Note Edge, which is fresh and new. Many other mobile

for 22 percent of the market. Samsung's mobile market success starts when the company brings out the idea of brand new touch–screen smartphone in

Centrex systems do not require onsite switching equipment like the PBXs. They usually handle outgoing calls made from inside an organization
without the use or intervention of an operator. In the case of my office, a trunk or outside path is grounded by the PBX or central office, which is
why users have to dial an access code (a nine in our case) before they can make any outside calls. I am not sure, but I know we have over 10 trunks
that go out from our office. "The difference between PBXs and Centrex is in the location and ownership of the equipment that routes calls. Private
branch exchanges are located on customers' premises. Centrex is usually located at the telephone company and is part of the central exchange or
central office" (Dodd, 1999, chp2).
Rotary and DTMF
Going a little further into our telephony phone system structure, Baker's telephones are all touch tone or tone dialing phones. Although the phones that
are supplied to us have the ability to support pulse dialing for backward compatibility; I have not seen or know anyone that uses those features in
today's business world. The old name for pulse phones were rotary phones, and the name for touch tone phones are dual tone multi–frequency phone, or
DTMF. "Pulse dialing or loop disconnect dialing, also called Rotary or Decadic dialing in the United Kingdom,

Should Cell Phones Should Be Banned While Driving?
Should phones be banned while driving? I agree with the fact that phones should be banned while driving. This is because phones have become a
major cause of accidents lately and many people are losing their lives in the event. As a person, there are numerous times I have had to run into people
while texting or talking on a phone. If this is the case while just walking, what comes out when one is using a phone while driving? The most worrying
issue is the fact that most people are valuing their convenience rather than minding about their general safety. This is a behavior that is growing so fast
that if the authorities cannot do something about, then more people are going to get affected by the menace. Just apart from causing accidents... Show

Daniel Kaffine, "It's possible that people who continued to use their cell phones were people who were more inclined to get into accidents
anyway" (Howard). This means that such people are always aware of the fact that their behaviors are very dangerous but choose to engage in them
thereby endangering peoples' lives something this is an unethical practice. The authorities should, therefore, try to ensure that this practice is brought
to an end in order to save peoples' lives. Such people are always innocent but fall victims of the bad practices by the careless drivers. The second the
reason as to why phones should be banned while driving is because the accidents that arise from the practice have also increased the insurance claims
that are being witnessed at the moment. Since using of phones while driving is causing a lot of accidents on the road, many insurance companies are
now feeling the impact that arises from the many claims that are now being lodged to the companies. It must be appreciated that the insurance
companies are instrumental in ensuring that those involved in accidents are compensated and that they are restored to their initial status. This does not
mean therefore that people and more so drivers should become careless as they are right now just because in case of any loss

She is 84 years old and lived in Puerto Rico for 4 to 5 years. When I interviewed her she claimed that the way she communicated with her family was

On June 17, 1946 history was made in St. Louis Missouri when the first phone call was made from a car phone. The mobile phone was invented by
Alton

The equipment weighed up to and over 80 pounds a phone. (A.T,&T, Enterprises,

Cellular Phones As A Cause For Distracted Driving
Cellular phones may be convenient but there is one place they seem to do more harm than good – behind the steering wheel of vehicle. Over time, cell
phones have become increasingly important fixtures in the lives of most Americans. At the same time, public concern over their use while driving has
increased. According to the research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, March 2017, "distracted driving in 2015 accounted for
ten percent of fatal crashes (3,196), 15 percent of injury crashes, and 14 percent of all police–reported motor vehicle traffic crashes were reported as
distraction–affected crashes" (NHTSA, 2017, p. 1). Technically, what is distracted driving? Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention
from driving, or the task of safe driving. With statistics as these it is no wonder that so much attention is being devoted to the dangers of being
distracted when behind the steering wheel of a vehicle. Much of the devotion concentrates on the education of using electronic devices, like cell
phones, while driving. However, not all of the distractions can be attributed to electronic devices. Distracted driving is an all too common habit. Aside
from cell phones, eating and drinking, daydreaming, reading, applying make–up, adjusting the radio, talking to passengers, children and even pets can
prevent drivers from giving their full attention to the road. In this paper, the role of the cellular phone as a cause for distracted driving will be

Persuasive Speech On Social Media Essay
Purpose: To persuade my audience to minimize their phone usage. Thesis: Stay in the present moment, don't let yourself believe you're going to forget
a memory because you didn't document it through social media. Claim: Policy Organizational Pattern: Problem–Solution I. Introduction A. Attention

We rely on our phones everyday to wake us up for school and to know the time of day. B. Relevance: We live in a world of ever changing
technology. Products are always getting upgraded every year and everyone wants the biggest and newest thing on the market. It's hard to not get
caught up in all the buzz of things. We feel almost "naked" without our phones; our attachment to them is overwhelming. Without them we feel as
though we're missing out on what's happening in the world. Our heads are always down; our thumbs are always swiping up and down on our
newsfeed. We're living a life that is more involved in someone else's social media accounts than our own. C. Credibility: As a student at this university

My Teenage Experience - How Technology Has Changed

  • 1. My Teenage Experience "Do you teenagers ever put your phone down?" If you are a teenager in today's society, I can almost guarantee you cannot count on one hand how many times an adult has asked you this question. Due to the fact that I am a highschool student involved in many extracurricular activities keeping my brain busy, I often catch myself forgetting to stop and realize all the "normal" daily expectations my generation has taken for granted. To say I was stunned would be an understatement, as I reflected on how times have transformed in the short amount of time from my sister's teenage years compared to mine. To evaluate an even more drastic change, the thirty four years between my mother, my aunt, and I was breathtaking. Almost acted as a culture shock. Expectations including home life, transportation, and technology have drastically evolved in an oddly short amount of time. Growing up as the youngest, I never understood the reasoning behind the dreadful thought of sharing a room with a sibling. I always begged and pleaded for "sleepovers" located in my older sisters' rooms, who I absolutely adored and mimicked daily. After interviewing my mom and her little sister, I realized not everyone viewed it as my innocent eyes once did. In fact, they formed polar opposite views. Both mentioned how several disagreements brewed from sharing a room as a teenage. From simply one not cleaning their side of the room to the others expectations or fighting over whose turn it was to accompany their room that weekend. This led me to evaluate how different today's home life runs. Each one of my friends have never even been threatened to have to share a room with their siblings. In matter of fact, most of my friends have extra empty rooms in their houses. When informing my mom and Aunt Julie about this, their mouths both dropped in amazement since they were constantly struggling to find houses with enough rooms for everybody. Another difference in developing expectations involves transportation. I never realized how major of a turn transportation has taken. Today almost every sixteen year old I know has a car before they even got their license. And their car could easily be one of the fanciest cars they will posses in their lifetime. My ... • 2. Essay On Technology And Technology The world is filled with technology, but is that a good thing? Technology is used for everything one can possibly need. Cell phones are becoming life support to both teenagers and adults. Although technology has many benefits, it can be harmful to an individual's mental health. Technology can create stress, anxiety, and a lack of sleep. If people started putting technology down, they could improve their mental health by turning their attention towards something other than a bright blue screen in front of them. To begin, Weir (2017) explains in his article that "sleep stealers" are cell phones. Most people ring their phones to bed at night to use as an alarm or in case someone calls or texts them. In a study conducted by Russell E.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sleep is also good for growth in the body (Myers, 2014). Sleeping allows people's bodies to take a rest from being active, that is why sleep is necessary because people's bodies cannot repair themselves while exerting energy, There are several consequences of losing sleep. In a study conducted using 15,500 kids ages 12–18, the researchers found that the kids who had 5 hours of sleep or less had higher depression than those who got 8 hours of sleep or more. Less sleep can cause students to do poorly in school. Lack of sleep causes weight gain. Ghrelin is a hunger–arousal hormone, which increases during sleep deprivation. The more sleep someone gets, the better their immune system can become. When one loses sleep they are putting their immune system at risk because it does not have the time to fight off infections (Myers, 2014). Scientist use different research strategies depending on what research strategy best fits the situation. Surveys are used to discover attitudes or behaviors of a certain group. The pros of using the surveying method is that the researcher can look at the group's behaviors from the group's point of view rather than the researcher naturaling observing them. The data collected can be very useful to the researchers. One of the cons of surveys is people can be bias. In the article the studies conducted were not created in a way that could allow anyone to be biased. In some cases the survey questions can be bias, which results in an inaccurate ... BACKGROUND: The Church receives contact information including telephone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, etc. that is provided by constituents through our online website, direct mail, volunteer applications, offering envelopes and other means. The marketing department wants to contact these individuals by telephone (live or automated calls), email and text. They are seeking direction to determine what they need to do to secure permission to do this. QUESTION: What does marketing need to do in order to secure that they have permission to contact such individuals in the manner as described above? APPLICABLE LAW: Telephone and Cellular Phone Calls: Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 and FCC Policy Guidance from 2015 The rules for obtaining cell phone consent have not changed for nonprofit organizations. Expressed consent is still acceptable, meaning, the consumer could list his phone number on a document or a website as contact information and this would be considered "consent". If a phone number has been reassigned the FCC now requires a company to stop calling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Negative Effects Of Widespread Cell Phone Use Widespread Cell Phone Use In the modern–day world, there are about 6.8 billion cell phone subscriptions. Mobile telephones have really changed the way we do things in our daily life. Before cell phones were invented individuals were more interactive with each other. In the late 1900's, Martin Cooper invented the first mobile telephone. Today we have a variety of mobile phones to choose from such as Apple and Samsung. Widespread cell phone use has definitely affected the world negatively because it is a distraction, can be harmful, and addicting. Widespread cell phone use is a distraction to many individuals today. While being on their telephones they begin to network and meet other individuals. Networking is not always a bad thing if people stay focused and determined on their goals. Eventually while networking they are going to meet someone they began to show interest in. Which in many cases individuals get attached to the person their talking to and start losing focus from reality. They begin to procrastinate from doing things that actually matter to them. Like for instance, instead of doing homework individuals would rather choose to play on their telephones. Which can eventually can start affecting their school grades and cause them to drop. Parents need to start stepping in more and take control in these situations, take away their phones if need be. What if it is a college student? There have been different forms of communication over the many years like messenger's, letters, telegraphs, and even radios. With all those ways of connecting to others, none have been good or effective enough to reach out to the people one would wish to talk to. Our society has changed in a huge way and part of the reason for that change is the telephone, and as we progress throughout the years technology becomes even more developed and more influential to our society. When and where the telephone was invented The idea of the telephone came along sooner than the real world made it out to be. Amazingly, changes around telephone technology have been more prevalent than to the changes in basic technology itself. Phones now have circuit boards and various electronics that take place of rotary dials, the microphone and receiver may be made of the same membrane–carbon–electromagnet assembly like they have been made for years, or they may create the variance in electric current some other way. But there is always a membrane which vibrates due to the sound of your voice and electric current varying because of it and the current may be converted to an FM radio signal before being broadcast to your phone but it is still the same variance that carries your voice. Before, the human voice couldn't create enough power to make telephones practical, a call from only a few miles away would be impossible even with stronger magnets. Most of the accidents are accused of distracted driving and most of the distractions are most of the time caused by cell phones. However, some opponents feel that creating a law against cell phone use infringes their personal rights. Other people assume that prohibiting from someone from using their cell phone is the same thing in just like telling someone that they can't adjust their radio or chat with someone else in the car. Texting while driving is six times more likely to cause a wreck than drunk driving. You are approximately 23 times more likely to wreck if you are texting. Texting while driving is equal to driving blind for 5 seconds each text and through those 5 seconds, you can commit an accident or even kill a person. • 10. Kaze No Denwa Short Story Kaze No Denwa It is April 11, 2011, and one month has passed since the great Japanese tsunami splintered the island. In a small coastal village, a man parks his car at a distance and walks towards the only object in a large field: Kaze No Denwa, the "Phone of the Wind." Tears begin to well in his eyes as he feels the gentle breeze wash over him. His shoes crunch the loose gravel underfoot. On this day, there is no–one else around. In the middle of the field stands a white phone booth. It glows boldly in the bright afternoon sunlight. The man walks along a winding path through low–cut, manicured underbrush. He reaches the phone booth, slides open the door, and enters. He takes his time, looks around, and finally picks up the receiver from atop an old–fashioned black rotary phone. He places a finger into a small circle at his desired number, gently spins clockwise, releases, and repeats nine times. The phone in Kaze No Denwa is connected to nothing; there is no electricity here, no dial tone even, but the man is not surprised. "If you can hear me," he says, "please listen carefully." He stops, looks around the tiny phone box, and sobs, wiping the tears from his eyes with a sleeve. "Please, let me hear your voice say 'Daddy' again." He covers his eyes with the sleeve and gently whispers, "I'm so sorry I couldn't save you. I will forever be sorry and shamed." His head falls, his eyes close. His name is Satsuko. He has travelled far to visit Kaze No Denwa. The great tsunami has brought havoc and, with it, many lives have gone to that place where spirits reside. Sadness has punctuated the land, and Satsuko is in its midst. His face and demeanour are altered. Kaze No Denwa, the Phone of the Wind is becoming well–known. Its back–story and sentiment have resonated with the people. He read about it in a magazine published the year prior; the story of an old man's burning wish, long before the tsunami, to communicate with his deceased relative. A phone booth was set in the middle of a field tilled by hand and hoe for generations, a place for the old man to air his grief, where his breath could catch the wind and set out across the field, down the cliff face, and across the vast blue Pacific. Satsuko moves slowly. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Importance Of Technology Today, people open their phone more than they open a book. Technology gives us an opportunity to connect with people whom we are unable to meet daily. In our current culture technology and the media affect every part of life. The advancements in technology over the last century have changed the world. • 12. Article Review of 'The Sarbanes: Oxley Debacle' Article Review: SOX The article entitled "The Sarbanes – Oxley Debacle" written by Henry Butler and Larry Ribstein discusses their viewpoint of the eponymous piece of legislation. From the adjective that the two use in describing the Sarbanes Oxley Act, it is obvious that they are critical of the legislation and believe that it fails in its endeavors to create accountability or punishment for organizations and businesses that fail to perform ethically and legally. In 2002, the United States government passed a law which is called the Sarbanes–Oxley Act (SOX). It is also known as the "Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act" or the "Corporate and Auditing Accountability and Responsibility Act." The intention of the legislation was well–intentioned and the authors do not deny this point. What they believe is that the issues that are discussed in the Sarbanes–Oxley Act are not being properly resolved with the piece of legislation and that it requires substantial alterations if not outright abolition. One of the major issues that Butler and Ribstein (2006) take with the Sarbanes–Oxley Act is that the law was put into place quickly and in response to current economic disasters. Instead of allowing time to pass and for substantial amounts of analyses to be conducted in order to determine the best course of action, legislators were responding to several high–profile cases of business malfeasance, such as in the case of the Enron Corporation. • 13. We The Animals Summary In Justin Torres' We the Animals, he tells a chaotic coming –of–age story about three young brothers through loosely related vignettes. By the time the distressingly tense passage begins, the boys' abusive father ("Paps") has abruptly disappeared, leaving their mother ("Ma) to run the household along until he returns. Although Torres consistently cultivates an unflinchingly intimate, heart–wrenching style, this passage in particular highlights the ceaseless anxiety he imposes on both the characters and the reader. Torres begins the passage with an uncomplicated establishment of the scene and Ma's after–work routine, massaging her feet while Paps' phone call rings and the boys eat what little dinner they have. These first three short, simple sentences contain parallelism and each begin with the most fundamental sentence structure ("she joined us," "she unlaced her work boots," "the phone rang"), constructing a nonchalance in the mother's movements, even as she makes the severe decision to ignore her missing husband's calls in front of her children. This indifference soon turns into a smile, an even greater contrast to the enormity of the situation. The end of this paragraph introduces Torres' habitual use of repetition as the narrator reveals, "She knew where Paps was at, knew the secret of his urgency," and contrasts this knowledge with their ignorance. Although Torres generally uses basic diction, perhaps to reflect the narrator's young age, he employs higher–level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Impact Of Mobile Telephone Technology On Human Social... As afore–discussed, telephone technology has overwhelming positive impacts (e.g. space adjusting; 'intimacy at a distance') on human lives, yet recent scholars (e.g. Ling, 1997; Caporael and Xie, 2003; Campbell and Park, 2008) illustrate some negative impacts of telephone uses, especially mobile telephony, on human social lives. The first negative impact brought by mobiletelephone is the use of public space privately. According to research findings of Campbell and Park (2008), the negative social impacts of mobile telephone technology firstly lied on using mobile telephone in public space (e.g. park; restaurant; shop; school) as one's 'personalised public space', that is, public space is appositely designated for personal objectives. In a public setting, for instance, mobile telephony always offers its users 'unsolicited melodies' and the 'copresent bystander' way to interact socially; consequently, the bystanders unconsciously become audience of the telephone conversation (Campbell and Park, 2008: 377). Moreover, the study of Ling (1997) noted that there are some settings (e.g. theaters; meetings; restaurants; trains; churches) in which bystander basically found mobile phones irritated, offended or embarrassed when someone uses mobile telephony. She also claimed that chatting on the mobile telephone in a public space often compel copresent others towards an awkward situation of unwillingly eavesdropping (Ling, 1997). Arguably, uses of telephone technology, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Persuasive Essay On Texting While Driving Most people believe that only texting is harmful while driving, but talking on the phone may be just as harmful. While most believe that talking on a cellular device is harmless, it is in fact, a distraction. The roads would be a much safer place for drivers if the amount of distractions were limited. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveals that there are several reasons why talking on the phone while driving should be illegal in all states. One of these reasons is that car accidents are one of the most prevalent causes of death in the United States; and distraction is the number one cause of car accidents (Currin). Many people think that as long as you talk on the phone using a hands free device, it is perfectly safe. While many people agree with this, that is not the case. It is not the act of driving with only one hand that is the problem, but it is that the driver must multitask when processing the information that the caller is saying. This is especially a concern with emotional conversations (Svenson and Patten 182). Some drivers believe that as long as you keep your eyes on the road, it is fine to answer and make phone calls while driving. This point is not valid, because distraction can be anything averting concentration, not just looking away from the path of travel (Svenson and Patten 182). Drivers must become more aware of this problem, especially in our advancing technological age. Many people may suggest that conversing with a passenger poses the same risks as talking on the phone. This is a valid point, but David Strayer, a cognitive scientist at the University of Utah, agues that having a passenger in the vehicle actually promotes safer driving since there are four eyes on the road instead of only two. Adams writes that Strayer says that "passengers tend to stop talking when the demands of driving increase." The helpfulness of having another set of eyes in the vehicle with the driver does not carry over with teenaged driving (Adams). Some might say that as long as the person operating the vehicle is a good driver, his driving skills should not be affected by talking on the phone while driving. Contrary to popular belief, talking on the phone while driving, even with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When on the road, however, irresponsible cell phone users are more than irritating: They are putting our lives at risk. Many of us have witnessed drivers so distracted by dialing and chatting that they resemble drunk drivers, weaving between lanes, for example, or nearly running down pedestrians in crosswalks. A number of bills to regulate use of cell phones on the road have been introduced in state legislatures, and the time has come to push for their passage. Regulation is needed because drivers using phones are seriously impaired and because laws on negligent and reckless driving are not sufficient to punish offenders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The latter statistic is interesting, for it suggests that those who carry phones in their cars may tend to be more negligent or prone to distractions of all kinds than those who do not. Some groups have argued that state traffic laws make legislation regulating cell phone use unnecessary. Sadly, this is not true. Laws on traffic safety vary from state to state, and drivers distracted by cell phones can get off with light punishment even when they cause fatal accidents. Although the midshipman mentioned earlier was charged with vehicular manslaughter for the deaths of John and Carole Hall, the judge was unable to issue a verdict of guilty. Under Maryland law, he could only find the defendant guilty of negligent driving and impose a $500 fine (Layton C1). Such a light sentence is not unusual. The driver who killed Morgan Pena in Pennsylvania received two tickets and a $50 fine––and retained his driving privileges (Pena). In Georgia, a young woman distracted by her phone ran down and killed a two–year–old; her sentence was ninety days in boot camp and five hundred hours of community service (Ippolito J1). The families of the victims are understandably distressed by laws that lead to such light sentences. When certain kinds of driver behavior are shown to be especially dangerous, we wisely draft special laws making them illegal and imposing specific punishments. Advantages of Technology in K12 Schools While computers and technology have become an integral part of society today, schools and colleges, for the most part, seem to generally avoid the use of communication devices in the classroom. In fact, many teachers, especially those who are from a more traditional teaching background, appear to regard devices such as cellphones in the classroom as some sort of "evil" to be entirely avoided. Students caught using these devices are then punished by methods such as confiscating the cellphones to be handed back after the class or after another specified length of time. Shelly, Gunter and Gunter (2011, p. 1), however, suggest that technology in the classroom is a vital component to help students make the most not only of their experience in the classroom, but also to benefit in terms of learning. Because computers, technology, and the Internet form such a vital part of our lives today, it is important to use this component to enhance the learning process. The authors also emphasize, however, that the use of technology in the classroom is not without its pitfalls and controversies. Indeed, cellphones, as mentioned above, could be extremely distracting when their use is not strictly monitored. • 31. Cell Phones Should Not Be Banned from School Property As one enters any local high school in the United States, they will be sure to see teenage students with their cellular telephones in hand. One may say the use of cell phones should be banned on school property, however there are many instances in which that may not be the best idea. Parents need to know that their children are safe and those children need a way in which to contact their parents if an emergency arises. If their child is not permitted to have their cellular telephone with them at school, the parent loses that sense of security. Cellular telephones should not be banned for students' use on school property for many reasons, including, emergency situations, changes in after school plans, and if the child commutes home on a school bus or walk. A common argument against this position is that cellular telephones should be banned on school property because of potential cheating, misuse, and harm, but all students should not be punished for the actions of some. There are many of tools that students can utilize in order to cheat if that was their goal. Randi Weingarten is the parent of a child who's school did impost a ban of the use of cellular telephones on school property. When speaking on the subject of teenagers using cell phones in order to cheat in class Weingarten says, "But does that mean we should ban any material that can be used for cheating– including pencils and pens". Teachers and staff can help in making sure that students are not inappropriately ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They usually handle outgoing calls made from inside an organization without the use or intervention of an operator. In the case of my office, a trunk or outside path is grounded by the PBX or central office, which is why users have to dial an access code (a nine in our case) before they can make any outside calls. I am not sure, but I know we have over 10 trunks that go out from our office. "The difference between PBXs and Centrex is in the location and ownership of the equipment that routes calls. Private branch exchanges are located on customers' premises. Centrex is usually located at the telephone company and is part of the central exchange or central office" (Dodd, 1999, chp2). Rotary and DTMF Going a little further into our telephony phone system structure, Baker's telephones are all touch tone or tone dialing phones. • 35. Should Cell Phones Should Be Banned While Driving? Should phones be banned while driving? I agree with the fact that phones should be banned while driving. This is because phones have become a major cause of accidents lately and many people are losing their lives in the event. As a person, there are numerous times I have had to run into people while texting or talking on a phone. If this is the case while just walking, what comes out when one is using a phone while driving? The most worrying issue is the fact that most people are valuing their convenience rather than minding about their general safety. This is a behavior that is growing so fast that if the authorities cannot do something about, then more people are going to get affected by the menace. Just apart from causing accidents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Daniel Kaffine, "It's possible that people who continued to use their cell phones were people who were more inclined to get into accidents anyway" (Howard). This means that such people are always aware of the fact that their behaviors are very dangerous but choose to engage in them thereby endangering peoples' lives something this is an unethical practice. The authorities should, therefore, try to ensure that this practice is brought to an end in order to save peoples' lives. Such people are always innocent but fall victims of the bad practices by the careless drivers. The second the reason as to why phones should be banned while driving is because the accidents that arise from the practice have also increased the insurance claims that are being witnessed at the moment. Since using of phones while driving is causing a lot of accidents on the road, many insurance companies are now feeling the impact that arises from the many claims that are now being lodged to the companies. It must be appreciated that the insurance companies are instrumental in ensuring that those involved in accidents are compensated and that they are restored to their initial status. This does not mean therefore that people and more so drivers should become careless as they are right now just because in case of any loss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each with 5 to 6 questions about how they communicated and listened to their family back in their day. I also asked them on how much time they spent communicating and listening to family. For my first interviewee I had my great–grandmother Catalina Jeremias and she was born in 1926 meaning she was the first generation of my family. She is 84 years old and lived in Puerto Rico for 4 to 5 years. When I interviewed her she claimed that the way she communicated with her family was by just normal conversations in her youth and growing up. She was often communicating with her family at home and it was in part the only fun thing for her to do since the only technology they had was a radio. Her family often communicated with her in the balcony, they would usually meet in the balcony to just communicate and listen. However, she communicated anywhere with her family or at all parts of the house. It has given a new dimension to personal communication helping people to be in touch with one another during times of sickness in the family or an emerging crisis. The said gentleman talked right through the five hour journey, for as many as 23 times. Imagine my dismay. Surely there has to be some difference between a bedroom and a tightly closed air conditioned public bus. Of late I also find yet another kind of abuse of the mobile phone particularly in the context of Bangladesh. Here mobile phones also serve as status symbol. Over time, cell phones have become increasingly important fixtures in the lives of most Americans. At the same time, public concern over their use while driving has increased. According to the research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, March 2017, "distracted driving in 2015 accounted for ten percent of fatal crashes (3,196), 15 percent of injury crashes, and 14 percent of all police–reported motor vehicle traffic crashes were reported as distraction–affected crashes" (NHTSA, 2017, p. 1). Technically, what is distracted driving? Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, or the task of safe driving. With statistics as these it is no wonder that so much attention is being devoted to the dangers of being distracted when behind the steering wheel of a vehicle. Much of the devotion concentrates on the education of using electronic devices, like cell phones, while driving. However, not all of the distractions can be attributed to electronic devices. Distracted driving is an all too common habit. Aside from cell phones, eating and drinking, daydreaming, reading, applying make–up, adjusting the radio, talking to passengers, children and even pets can prevent drivers from giving their full attention to the road.
