Investigative Group Therapy
I used to work for a therapeutic community that provided intensive group therapy for children with special needs for 5 days a week, in the opposite
shift of their school hours. This type of therapy simulates social environment, so the children learn how to behave adaptatively. We had clients from
ages 4 to 11, and they presented aggressive behaviors due to psychological issues such as sexual harassment, autistic spectrum and oppositional
defiant disorder. In order to prevent the occurrence of aggressive behaviors, the therapists made a book, telling the story of a little scared fox. The
fox's mother made a magic cloak in order to help his calf to feel calmer whenever he felt angry, sad, anxious or frightened. Besides telling the story

Review Of ' The Art Of Quilting ' Essay
The Art of Quilting
Quilting is an artform that has been passed down through generations. The origins of quilting is still unknown to the public but it is known that it
has been around for centuries. The art has traveled through sad and happy times in our world 's history, and it will continue to do that in the
future. Quilting is defined as the joining together of layers of fabrics with lines stitching to form a bed cover, warm garment, or for decorative
effect. Quilting has been pegged as being an older person 's activity or boring, but that simply is not true. More and more American children are
being enrolled into sewing and quilting classes each year. (Creel;Hall) In an interview with Stephanie Collings, she spoke about her career in
quilting. She began her own business and quickly began to make a profit. In the interview she is asked about her income and she states, "My
income is very small compared to our family income, but every little bit helps! On a good month I will make around one thousand dollars." She also
talks on how quilting is more of a seasonal project which is when most quilters make a large portion of their money (Fowler). There are also many
competitions all around America where a quilter can enter their quilt into a quilting contest. In these quilting competitions there is a possibility to win
monetary rewards and gain recognition from other well known quilters. One of the largest known competitions is provided by America's Quilter's
Society. There

Initial Thoughts From Patchwork Texts Essay
This essay sets out to combine initial thoughts from patchwork texts to explore how to become a primary science leader. Patchwork texts are
outlined by Winter (2003) as a series of small sections which can be complete in itself, but becomes finalised when they are put together. Upon the
initial mention of patchwork texts, I was rather unsure and confused about what it entailed. After further investigation in seminar and through extra
readings I have begun to develop a better understanding of this type of assessment. I could see the benefits to this type of format but also some
uncertainties. Just like the peers in my group I had reservations about uploading my patches online due to embarrassment of writing styles and
opinions of my work. Ovens (2003) highlights that some students had personal doubt and worries about their own ideas and felt vulnerable at the
prospect of having these ideas discussed in class. However, having others see my 'patches' provided me with feedback and enabled me to reflect and
deepen my understanding of each topic (Ovens, 2003 and Winter, 2003). It was almost instant and allowed me to reflect during my thinking process,
which Boud (2000) believes enables a deeper understanding of individual weaknesses. Assessments are supposed to stimulate learning; by having this
continuous assessment it gave me time to develop my thinking and make sense of it (Ovens, 2003; Winter, 2003; Trevelyan and Wilson, 2012).
Henceforth, resulting in a deeper understanding

Comparing Love In The Great Gatsby And The Awakening
Love is a major theme in almost every novel and is one of the key characteristics in many plots. Love can affect a character's decisions, emotions, and
overall actions which is what makes it one of the most influential themes. That is why I chose love for my theme because it is present in everything
people do. Love is an impactful theme in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen, A Patchwork Planet by Anne Tyler,
and The Awakening by Kate Chopin. The Great Gatsby showed the theme of love in two significant ways. One way was Gatsby's love for the past
and things that could never exist again, and another was Gatsby's totally blinding love for Daisy no matter what she did. Love can be see in A
Doll's House through Nora's feelings towards her children, which she ignorantly thought were love and in Torvald's superficial love for Nora. Love
appears in A Patchwork Planet in a much more subtle way. It can be seen between Barnaby and Opal in a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These novels changed my outlook on the world by showing me that love is not always perfect and it doesn't always work out in the end. I learned
that true love is not flawless and always works out, true love is a choice not a chance. I've understood from these beautiful works of literature that
true love does not appear between two people, those people have to be willing to work out any problems that will come and work on the relationship
constantly. Gatsby and Daisy's failed relationship in The Great Gatsby taught me that relationships cannot just work out on their own, they take
cooperation. Gatsby wasn't willing to comply with Daisy's new and mature needs while Daisy wasn't willing to put in the effort and leave her
husband for Gatsby. Had the two of them be willing to work together and put in the effort, ignoring Daisy's evil side and that she was no good for
Gatsby, they could have had a healthy

Trifles Symbolism
"He didn't drink, and kept his word as well as most, I guess, and paid his debts. But he was a hard man, Mrs. Peters. Just to pass the time of day with
him, (Shivers) like a raw wind that gets to the bone" (Glaspell). Minnie has suffered because of Mr. Wright's cold and unfeeling nature. "Her isolation,
the gloom of her surroundings, and her husband's dispassion slowly drove her to the brink of insanity" (Galen). When only the bird was holding
Minnie in the house was killed, she saw no reason that she should stay with her husband in that house. The men think women lack intelligence because
of their gender. After, the women look at the canary, birdcage, and thequilt they figure out how the husband died. In the drama "Trifles," the quilt
symbolizes Minnie's state of mind and it shows in her stitching how nervous and angry she feels. The patchwork of Minnie's life represents loneliness
and isolation. Usually when women do patchwork it consists of a cloth that has meaning behind it to treasure it. Women in a group come together and
work on their patchwork or they help each other, but Minnie had no one to help her and she felt lonely. Minnie's stitching goes from perfect and
orderly to messy and uneven, the stitching shows how nervous Minnie was at the time. The events happening in the house is a reflect on Minnie's
stitching. "She tried to fend off her depression with bits of gaiety–brightly colored quilts and a caged songbird–but when her husband, in a sudden act

The Colonization Of New England
If you wanted to record the beginning of English colonist history in North America, you would have to begin with the settlements of New England. The
English colonists had to endure the ecological challenges of New England, oppose to the conditions they were accustomed to in England. They also had
to coexist with the original inhabitants of the lands the Native American Indians for information on techniques of agriculture for proper sustainability,
and for trade pur–poses. English colonists had to obtain knowledge from Native Americans along with learning from trial and error to master the
ecological challenges they faced while establishing settlements within New England. Coping with environmental challenges to facilitate survival on the
day to day basis was the first hurdle the English colonists had to overcome. The ultimate goal of the colonists was after mastering the terrain of New
England was to distinguish the natural commod–ities of the region to obtain maximum production of resources for profit to themselves and the mother
country of Great Britain.

Quilt In Colonial America
History and the wide variety cultures has altered the way women quilt.
Quilts in Colonial America resembled their culture and lands from which the quilters had come from. The wealthy and social prominent settlers in the
south began to make patchwork quilts after the middle class and poor women had been working on patchwork for hundreds of years. The Puritans
brought sturdy fabrics and simple designs, and in northeastern America the colors were more colorful. Linsey–woolsey, also known as woolen
bedcovers were not often made as a staple within the household. The woolen bedcovers were made of a woolen or glazed worsted fabric dyed in
neutral colors as a top layer, with the filling was a soft layer of carded wool; the layers were held together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

technology like the pioneers did. Native American women had to grow or barter goods such as cotton, twine, and dye to create such beautiful quilts,
which also, are some of the most beautiful works done that are hung in museums today. Quilting was a big technique that the Native Americans
borrowed from the Europeans. The natives altered this technique by changing how the quilt was represented; Natives' quilts represented their culture

Ridin Riding With Death Analysis
Jean–Michel Basquiat appears from the "Punk" locus in New York City as a gritty, common sense, spray

Analysis of Patches: Quilt and Community in Alice Walker's Everyday Use
In a critique titled "Patches: Quilt and Community in Alice Walker's 'Everyday Use'" (Short Story Criticism: Excerpts from Criticism of the Works of
Short Fiction Writers, 1990), the authors reveal that tradition and the explanation of holiness were key elements throughout the story. The writers began
the analysis by discussing the significance of a quilt; a quilt is a complete piece of artwork that is essentially made up of fragments. These patchwork
quilts, when effectively put together, exposed a way of life. The Africans traditional way of life was one of sacredness and usefulness. By using scraps
from old clothes they were able to create a masterpiece that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As her daughter arrives, she looks around the yard and recalls the old house. The old house which went up in flames and terribly burned Maggie,
her youngest girl. Dee, however, was happy to see it go up in a blaze. In her eyes, the house was a disgrace. The older of the two girls, she liked the
finer things in life. She was energetic and loved to stand out through her personality and clothes. The colorful clothes she was wearing when she
arrived made this obvious. Dee, who changed her name to Wangero after joining "...the radical, black nationalists of the 1960s and 1970s...," was now
promoting"... a suddenly fashionable, or stylish, interest in what she passionately describes as her 'heritage'" (416). Through the influence of
American fashion, Wangero corresponds her own style to the notion that black is beautiful. The girl who once despised African custom now supports
the traditions and wants to acquire the precious quilts made by her grandmother which were promised to her sister. However, Dee only shows her
detachment from traditional ways by wanting the quilts because they are "fashionable" and "priceless" (416). Just as the fire symbolized her role in
relation to her community, so does the desire to obtain the quilts. She insists on having what she is told to be stylish. When Maggie stands up and
proclaims that Dee can have them since she does not need them to remember

Gillian Clark Women In Late Antiquity Summary
Gillian Clark's book on, Women in Late Antiquity: Pagan and Christian Lifestyles is a patchwork constructed from the legal and medical texts of the
era. Clark makes it abundantly clear; that this book is like a kaleidoscope of the somewhat colorful and comical limited written knowledge of women
of the period. In most cases the history was recorded by the biased slant of the male–dominated society. Clark points out in her introduction, The goal
is to give some basic information on women's lives in late antiquity, and to make a start on answering some fundamental questions: to what extent could
women choose what to do? What social, practical, or legal constraints limited their choices? What options were available besides... Show more content

It may have been that women were supposed to get married and have children, is this not what they have been taught and trained for since inception,
conception, and birth , was this not their greatest desire (13). It is not as if a woman had an abundance of career or professional choices. Marriage was
a capital transaction and mostly an arraigned one at that. It is interesting to note that formal betrothal was the age of seven and legal validity of a
girl getting married as early as the age of twelve to any warm body male (14). Moreover, a male was not expected to get married until he became a
man; the age seems to vary, starting around seventeen and upwards. Also, the women were the under her father's yoke (potestas) (14) until his death
and only then did she become legally independent (15). Could this be part of society's means of controlling women through the dominance of being

Hendel: A Comparative Analysis
Hendel asserts that Genesis provides readers today with a tribal genealogy or ancient family tree of sorts of the earth, he states that various sources
were passed down orally or through writing from Babylonian times and used to draft the book we have today. While these accounts may differ on word
choice, their overarching themes and storylines seem to compliment one another. Futhermore, Hendel then establishes that the three sources, J, P, and
E, which are responsible for the blended Genesis we interpret today have conflicts much more symbolic than merely a variation on their names for God
but rather differ significantly on their illustrations of God's deportment. The variation of God's behavior creates a conflict for the implications of

you know how it feels to be completely alone, feeling like the worlds against you? Eliza's husband isn't any different from other british men. They're

The intent of this paper is to illustrate the significance of Seminole clothing and social practices in South Florida by concentrating on the different
patterns for both men and women and celebrations they used. Using an ethnographic approach and perspective based on the facts displayed at the
History of Miami Museum I can further go into detail about the meaning of the clothing and social practices.
The Seminoles prospered in Florida between the years of 1816–1818 and created a less formal society than the creeks. Both the Seminoles and the
Creeks had very similar clothing, social and political practices. William Bartram, visited the Seminoles, stated " they enjoy a super–abundance of the

clothing but were normally worn when visiting the white settlements. The women's clothing consisted of long sleeved pull over blouses and full
skirts gathered at the waist. Before the 20's patchwork appeared in the style of checkerboard or sawtooth designs. By the early 1920's Seminole
clothing was made up of horizontal stripes and patchwork designs. By the 50's the diagonal designs were illustrated by small bars of color
crammed with larger bars. James Henshall described the Seminole turban as "some two feet in diameter and six inches thick or high, with a hole in
the venter to fit the head. It formed of bright colored shawls, the outside layer being sometimes a bright red cotton or bandana handkerchief; its shape

Aids Memorial Quilt Research Paper
The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt is a place for people to celebrates the lives of people who have died for the causes that related to AIDS.
It works as a commemoration for social and personally expressive. During the 20 centuries, many people who died of AIDS related causes did not
have funerals since the surviving family members felt social imputation of AIDS, and many funeral homes or cemeteries refused to accept the
deceased's remains. This social phenomenon made AIDS activist, Cleve Jones, have an idea for the AIDS MemorialQuilt. In the candlelight March
in1985, Jones asked people to write the names of their family members who were killed by the AIDS–related causes on signs. Then he was inspired by
the signs that were taped on the San Francisco Federal Building. To Jones, all the signs looked like a huge patchwork quilt. In 1987, Cleve Jones,

Patchwork Commentary
Patchwork Analysis
Eavan Boland's unique poem, Patchwork, allows the reader to be privy to the private thoughts of a persona, presumably the author herself, as she
struggles to answer the question of fate or destiny. Throughout the poem, while quilting alone late at night, the speaker puzzles over the randomness of
the universe, utilizing the simple quilt metaphor to inspire a final epiphany.
Immediately revealing the central theme of the poem as well as alluding to the narrator's apparent self–doubt, the first stanza is an imperative aspect of
this piece. The speaker begins by stating that she has "been thinking at random on the universe, or rather, how nothing in the universe is random". So
commences her journey to solve the question: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word "mechanical" suggests that the woman is acting mindlessly, almost as if guided by a higher power. Fate determines that the quilt will be
made, and so it will be. It guides the woman's hands as her mind once again floats away from reality and begins to explore the metaphysical world. In
addition, upon describing her "secondhand sewing machine", the narrator further exposes her self–depreciating character.
In the fifth stanza, the speaker makes inconsiderable progress in solving the crucial question regarding the randomness of the universe. As she realizes
the overwhelming number of uncertainties in the universe, the woman chooses instead to concentrate on the task at hand, turning her "back...to the
dark" or the unknowns. However, she is unable to resist the compelling temptation of mystery, and quickly attempts to contemplate the "stars and bits of
stars and little bits of bits" which reside throughout the universe. While the "bits" in this statement signify randomness, the "stars" represent the
unknown. This symbolism, coupled with the use of repetition and alliteration, emphasize the woman's sheer confusion on the matter at hand. The vast
uncertainty of the universe has forced her to consider the possibility of a wholly random universe. The persona's confusion is confirmed through her
question: "is it craft or art?" In this circumstance, "craft" represents a universe in which fate

How to Quilt Like a Pro: Tips and Tricks for Beginning Quilters
If you're inexperienced at quilting and feel intimidated by it overall, I want to ensure you that nearly everyone feels that way initially – beginning
quilters generally feel a bit lost until they have practiced their newly acquired skills for some time. Although quilting may seem daunting until you
know what you're doing, don't give up on it! The ultimate results can be rewarding, indeed.
Why do I wish to encourage you to forge ahead in your efforts to get started (or continue) at basic quilting? One reason is that the art of quilting is
rich in historical significance. This craft was introduced to Europeans as far back as the 12th century. Quilting gave women a means of social
interaction while remaining productive. Today, both women and men of all ages may enjoy quilting alone and in groups– and so, the tradition continues.
I also know that making a quilt can be an immensely enjoyable and gratifying experience. No matter how overwhelmed you may feel when you're
getting started, familiarizing yourself with the terminology, and learning the basic techniques – the ultimate goal is worth muddling through when you
feel uncertain about the outcome. Don't be afraid of making mistakes – learning from those mistakes will ultimately make you a more skilled quilter. All
accomplished quilters were beginning quilters at some point!

A Patchwork Planet Character Analysis
We assume that our family members care about each other and wants nothing but the best for us, because they are the closes people in our lives. In
some cases, this is not always true. Simply because they share the same blood, does not mean they are necessarily in your camp. In the novel, A
Patchwork Planet, through Barnaby's relationship with his family, with the members of Rent–A–Back and with Martine and Pop–Pop, Anne Tyler
suggest that people who have your best interest at heart manifest their care through action.
Ever since Barnaby was born, his family makes it clear that they are ashamed of him. Primarily, Margot always looks down upon him. Even since
his day of birth, because he was born late*. Also, the fact that his parents send him away to Renascence where he is isolated from his family for
twelve months a year, indicates that Barnaby's parents do not have his wellbeing at heart (86). The result of Barnaby's isolation affects his mindset,
in other words, he is always indecisive because he allows his family's judgments of him affect his own opinion. Moreover, during Barnaby's 30th
birthday celebration at his parents' house, Margot criticizes his career: "Of course he would rather work elsewhere! ... He's spitting in the Foundation's
face! He has deliberately chosen employment that has no lasting point to it, no reputation, no future in preference to work that's of permanent

What Is Effectuation Theory Account For Marketing...
To what extent does Effectuation theory account for marketing decisions made by entrepreneurs for establishing and building products/services in a
new market?
Abstract
Marketing compliments a product, the corporate identity and their relationship with the audience. Success is dependent on consumer satisfaction –
marketing helps orient strategic business thinking in this direction, in a relatively hostile environment saturated by competition. Albeit a start–up's
growth style and structure at its early stages make it difficult to apply textbook marketing techniques. Some of the more prominent issues around this
include an absent brand presence, the affordance of risk–taking and expenditure flexibility. This paper aims to understand what... Show more content on

The number of possible outcomes are infinite, with the tools readily available, which is incredibly important if you are a first mover in a market –
choices made at this stage will set an example that market space, and quality to match for others.
Entrepreneurs may have restrictions with tools and resources, yet possess enough flexibility to experiment in their field. This is not only applicable
from a product development standpoint, but also for marketing decisions. Success is an achievement on the premise that the product/service has been
proved reputable by consumers.
What are the areas of Effectuation theory?
Effectuation is analogous to giving a carpenter "a toolbox and some wood and asked to build whatever he or she chooses" as opposed to asking them
"to build a desk" (Sarasvathy, 2001a) – the latter is considered as casual reasoning or causation, where a predetermined goal is provided at the start
with a set of means–to–an–end (Sarasvathy, 2001b). It is, in fact, far more convoluted than suggested yet the example highlights a key element of
effectuation – that it demands creative prowess in the form of "imagination, spontaneity, risk–taking and salesmanship" (Sarasvathy, 2001b).

Makena Tongg–Woodall Saculla, 1:30 Traditional Hawaiian Quilting Hawaiian Quilting is a very important part of Hawaiian culture. Hawaiian quilts
are a combination of Polynesian heritage and American quilting. The Missionaries used quilts for warmth during the winter. But Hawaiians used them
as an art form, as decoration and to express important things in their lives. Traditional quilts are very delicate and some contain around 200,000 hand
stitches. Humidity, heat, salt air and insects can easily affect quilts. Many traditional quilts never survived and it is important to save the ones that are
still available. Hawaiians believe that the quilts contain a lot of Mana (power or spirit). On April 3rd, 1820, the women attended the first sewing circle
on the ship, Thaddeus. The Royal women... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The original material colors were red, blue, green, yellow and muslin as the background. The traditional supplies were only thread, needles and the
material. I couldn't find much information about the traditional quilt making ways. But the supplies that are used now are quilting hoops, needles,
scissors, pencils, thread, material, batting, a ruler and a pillow. Once you have all your materials together you need to use the snowflake technique to
make your own design. Once you finish the design you need to baste the material down to your background material. Basting is a technique used to
fasten down the material using large stitches. After basting you need to start stitching around the edges of the pattern. Next step is to place the batting
underneath the material and fasten it together using the basting technique. Once it's fastened you need to begin the echo stitching. The echo stitching is
a type of stitching that makes a three–dimensional look and adds a little texture to the piece. You execute this stitch by making ВЅ inch parallel stitches
that repeat the inside and outside design already

What Learning Has Occurred And How This Will Influence...
Chapter 6 Overview The final section of this dissertation will focus on reflecting upon the experience of undertaking a dissertation, what learning
has occurred and how this will influence future practice as a staff nurse working in the NHS. The author will utilise Rolfe, Freshwater and Jasper's
(2001) model. The author chose this model as it is a simpler model than Gibbs (1998) model, Rolfe et al (2001) poses the questions 'What? So what?
And Now what?' The author felt due to its simplicity that this model was more suited to this reflection. What? The author undertook a twelve thousand
word dissertation as part of a BSc (Hons) nursing degree. The dissertation has been completed as a patchwork text order, consisting of 4 separate pieces

So what? From completing this dissertation the author has learnt just how important research is and how essential it is for nurses to have an in–depth
understanding of the care they are giving to their patients. This dissertation has helped the author have a great knowledge on CBT and just how
effective and valuable it is in treating people who have sexually offended. Undertaking a patchwork assessment made the author reflect upon
patient care and although we may consider an individual's care needs individually, holistic care is the ultimate aim in delivering high quality
patient care. Holistic care is seeing the patient as a physical, spiritual and psychological whole and not just focusing on one particular area
(NursingTimes.Net 2009). A patchwork text is a type of assessment which consists of smaller sections that once put together becomes a
comprehensible and combined piece of work (Scoggins and Winter 1999). Research is essential in all areas of nursing as nurses have a duty to
ensure they are up to date with all relevant developments in nursing and should be able to give rationale for all care they give. Nursing research
expands the evidence base and improves clinical practice (NursingTimes.Net 2014). Nurses need to have the ability to research a subject in order to
keep up to date with the ever changing nursing practice and ultimately improve the delivery of care to our

Tips on Paraphrasing
Paraphrasing
Within academic writing it is advised that a combination of both direct and indirect quotes (paraphrasing) are used. Often it is better to paraphrase
what an author has said as opposed to using lengthy direct quotations. But what does it mean 'to paraphrase'? According to the MacMillan English
Dictionary (MacMillan, 2012:online), to paraphrase is "to express what someone else has said or written using different words, especially in order to
make it shorter or clearer." When you paraphrase another author's writing you rewrite their argument using your own words, phrasing and interpreting it
in your own way.

The nurse manager, nurse clinician, and clinical nurse specialist, as the designated experts, do not take patient assignments. The resource nurse is not
only a caregiver but a resource to the other caregivers. Within the staff nurses there is also a hierarchy of seniority. Their job is to give assigned
patients all their nursing care.
Why this is plagiarism
Notice that the writer has not only "borrowed" Chase's material (the results of her research) with no acknowledgment, but has also largely maintained
the author's method of expression and sentence structure. The phrases in red are directly copied from the source or changed only slightly in form.
Even if the student–writer had acknowledged Chase as the source of the content, the language of the passage would be considered plagiarized because
no quotation marks indicate the phrases that come directly from Chase. And if quotation marks did appear around all these phrases, this paragraph
would be so cluttered that it would be unreadable.
2. A Patchwork Paraphrase
Chase (1995) describes how nurses in a critical care unit function in a hierarchy that places designated experts at the top and the least senior staff nurses
at the bottom. The experts – the nurse manager, nurse clinician, and clinical nurse specialist – are not involved directly in patient care. The staff nurses,
in contrast, are assigned to patients and

The Infamous Patchwork Mouse Case
The universal principle that underlines all work conducted in the field of science is that the knowledge yielded from scientific discovery can never be
considered to be indisputable truth as it is derived solely from the human perspective of the world and, to the greater extent, the tangible universe. As a
result, theories brought forward that are considered to be factual one day can be justly discarded the next if enough evidence is produced to form a
realised contradiction. It is due to this, therefore, that science holds great authority over how society is able to perceive its surroundings and
consequently, how it allows human society to progress.
Science is far from 'perfect'. As it is conducted by human beings, it is only natural that mistakes and inconsistencies are likely to occur. However,
there is a distinct line between work that is genuine and that of work that has been purposely falsified to produce a desired result. This is known as
'pseudoscience' (or scientific misconduct) and is largely responsible for the wealth of controversy that has been brought upon science.
In particular, this report will focus on a widely–criticized and notorious case of scientific fraud, consisting of how it was perpetrated, what events
transpired because of it, the motives of the accused, how the case is likely to bring harm to science and what measures can be employed to rectify any
possible instances of future misconduct.
Explanation of what happened:

Patchwork Boland Summary
The Pieces That Fit: An Analysis of Boland's "Patchwork" In her poem "Patchwork", built of nine stanzas varying lengths, Boland's persona finds
herself in her dining room late at night working on a sewing project while contemplating the universe. Utilizing various stylistic and structural
techniques, Boland's intent is to reconcile the tension between chaos and order for the purpose of ascertaining the meaning of existence. Immediately
in the first stanza Boland establishes a persona who will consistently vacillate between between certainty in her understanding of the composition of the
universe. The persona is at first contemplative as she thinks at "random on the universe" only to ironically contradict herself when she proclaims that
"nothing in the universe is random". Boland's chiasmus here serves to set in place the wavering opinions of the persona that will persist, and such as
chime miss oxymorons and contrasting stanza's bar scene repeatedly throughout the piece they are essential in establishing a light reflective tone and
mood switch coupled with the use of the first person perspective enables the reader to form eight unquestioning intimate connection with the speaker
the security of the near raider is further also to make clear the persona's thesis–– that there is order in the universe. Her confidence is halted, quite
literally, however, at the end of the quatrain only to be followed by a parenthetical, one–line stanza where she concedes that her assessment is

Personal Narrative: Being A Brazilian Woman With Syrian...
She was singing a series of tunes in Arabic, which were unknown to me. During her last days, it seemed that her memory was slowly returning and
that it wouldn't be long before she left us. My 98–year–old great–grandmother was reminiscing her childhood at her deathbed as I watched from afar
with a midst of sadness, fear, and curiosity. The reality was, she never told us anything about her past. Filled with suffering, heartbreak, and pain
she refrained from sharing a part of her identity, an identity I also felt that belonged to me. That day, the only thing she left me with was one of her
handmade colorful patchwork blankets. Growing up I never had any contact with my Syrian heritage. I wasn't made aware of my culture or even
questioned it until others started to do so because of my distinct appearance. Simplistically, I saw myself as a Brazilian. As young as the age of fifteen,
I began struggling to understand where I belonged. That day, as I saw my great–grandmother sing the lullabies of her childhood and speak a language I
had never heard before, I knew the answers were there. She passed away a few days later. Just like the handmade... Show more content on

Knowing the struggles my ancestors have prevailed upon to provide me the opportunity to pursue my dreams is humbling. They've taught me that
education is power. I was able to understand its magnitude by becoming an English teacher to students from a local underprivileged public school. I had
been capable of reminding them that they are entitled to dream, simply by giving them the knowledge and opportunity to think outside of the box. As I
move on to college, I hope to continue to empower individuals through education, providing them the opportunity that my great–grandmother wished
for but did not have. Despite the tumultuous path to accepting and understanding myself, I know that college will be another colorful fragment to the

The SCERTS Model To Successful ASD Practices
programs "borrow" too many ASD approaches and strategies, resulting in practices that are fragmented and unsuccessful.
First, some programs continue to adhere to only 1 or 2 approaches, with little integration of practices from different perspectives. In contrast, other
programs use a "patchwork quilt" strategy borrowing from different practices along the continuum even when such practices are not easily integrated,
resulting in a fragmented approach to programming, (SCERTS, 2016, p. 3).
To build an effectiveeducation program, including ASD practices and approaches most effective to each individual, the SCERTS model utilizes
information gathered from multiple sources. The SCERTS model incorporates background information from parents, caregivers,

African American Quilting
The process of quilting goes as far back as the Egyptians, the Chinese, and the Persians; introduced into Europe by the Crusades (Hedges, 2014). The
oldest dated quilted surface dates back to 3400 BC. This discovery was found in the robe of an Egyptian carved figure. The quilted surface consisted of
many textile layers stitched together in the pattern of a raised diamond; this suggests that the used of padding and stitching has been around for
thousands of years. In eastern Indian, the making of Sujuni worked on, or embroidered quilts are an art that dates back to the eighteenth century
(Gunning, 2000). Europeans settled into the original thirteen colonies in the late 1600s and with their arrival they brought quilting to America (African
American Quilting, 2007). Some of these European women taught quilt making to the slaves they owned leading to the development of a vibrant
culture of quilt making in African American culture. Patchwork quilting was an American quilting style by the mid–19th century (African American

All Members of the Family Matters
Family, a close weaved group of people inseparable because of links of shared history, love, caring, and understanding which links them to one
another and ignites a since of belonging and togetherness. Members of a family are like the patches of a patchwork quilt. Like the patches of the
quilt, family members are of different sizes, shapes, and colors but although different they all play a part in creating a masterpiece which bond is only
as strong as the weakest link. It's these differences in sizes, shapes, and colors which makes patchwork quilt so unique and amazing to the public today.
Family works the same way you have different types of people with completely different mindsets, hobbies, and careers but family is special. Family
has a linkage between them, a certain bond that may not be visible by eye but the bond is so strong that no matter what happens or how far apart they
are, they will always be linked back to the other members of the family. But what happens when you put another angle to the common institution of
family? What happens when that person in your family who shares this linkage is a pet? Does this change the definition of family just because the
subject at hand is something other than human?
My substantive definition of family helps me too be able to accept pets as members of the family. Under the definition of law, family is the formal
social recognition and affirmation of a bond as family, particularly in the form of marriage and adoption. Pets are

A Family Is Like A Patchwork Quilt
A Family is Like a Patchwork Quilt
What is the meaning of family? The internet will tell you that it is a "group consisting of parents and children living together in a household." But I
beg to differ. Family doesn 't just consist of several people living under one roof: no, a family is a living, breathing organism. Family is messy and it
takes effort on everyone 's part to make it function correctly. Is there such thing as a perfect family? No, absolutely not. That 's the message that I
got from watching Parenthood. Although hilarious, it was an accurate depiction of a family. I can easily relate to Gill 's family, especially Kevin.
When I was a little girl I was anxious about everything. I was anxious over things that really shouldn 't be weighing on a little girls mind. When my
family and I would be driving, whether it being across town or across the state, I was a backseat driver. I would be strapped into my car seat,
fretting about the weather or if my father was getting too close to another car. When I would hear the gas light come on, I would freak out. I was
so terrified that we would run out of gas and be stranded on the road, and I could never calm down unless we pulled over right that minute at a
nearest gas station to fill up the car. Thinking back now it's kind of a ridiculous fear, but every now and then I still get anxious when the gaslight
comes on. I also relate to Gill so much. I know what it's like to have a dead beat brother. I know what its like to

A Patchwork Quilt Of The Scarlet Letter
A Patchwork Quilt of The Scarlet Letter Scenes create a patchwork method to a story made quilt. There is a need for each element of this so called
quilt, but some patches (scenes) contain more importance and understanding than other patches. The levels of an author's writing are how scenes
impact a person. In the retrospect of the daring and defying boundaries of this novel, entitled "The Scarlet Letter", there is a certain pull in areas of the
novel that grasp the feeling and most important areas to be covered. As the hearts of all readers searched this novel, five scenes pulled on the strings of
those encountered this novel. Scenes of this nature include, the point that Hester pronounced her appearance on the scaffold with a mighty reveal of
the nature of this story, Governor Bellingham became a threatening factor in Hester and her daughter's life, a tremendous moment occurred for the
Reverend Dimmesdale and it affects the relationship with Hester and young Pearl, a moment of sweet and uncountable passion between two forbidden
lovers, and the end of tail of passion, sorrow, and estrangement between brooding protagonists and antagonists. A moment of true form and conception
is what Hester faces the defining beginning of her adulterous life. As the novel opens up, our minds are faced with the bold Hester Prynne, who is
eloquently swaying in her dress of coarse materials to the scaffold of committed punishment. This beautiful woman of impurity must take a punishment

Investigative Group Therapy Helps Troubled Children

  • 1. Investigative Group Therapy I used to work for a therapeutic community that provided intensive group therapy for children with special needs for 5 days a week, in the opposite shift of their school hours. This type of therapy simulates social environment, so the children learn how to behave adaptatively. We had clients from ages 4 to 11, and they presented aggressive behaviors due to psychological issues such as sexual harassment, autistic spectrum and oppositional defiant disorder. In order to prevent the occurrence of aggressive behaviors, the therapists made a book, telling the story of a little scared fox. The fox's mother made a magic cloak in order to help his calf to feel calmer whenever he felt angry, sad, anxious or frightened. Besides telling the story every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Review Of ' The Art Of Quilting ' Essay The Art of Quilting Quilting is an artform that has been passed down through generations. The origins of quilting is still unknown to the public but it is known that it has been around for centuries. The art has traveled through sad and happy times in our world 's history, and it will continue to do that in the future. Quilting is defined as the joining together of layers of fabrics with lines stitching to form a bed cover, warm garment, or for decorative effect. Quilting has been pegged as being an older person 's activity or boring, but that simply is not true. More and more American children are being enrolled into sewing and quilting classes each year. (Creel;Hall) In an interview with Stephanie Collings, she spoke about her career in quilting. She began her own business and quickly began to make a profit. In the interview she is asked about her income and she states, "My income is very small compared to our family income, but every little bit helps! On a good month I will make around one thousand dollars." She also talks on how quilting is more of a seasonal project which is when most quilters make a large portion of their money (Fowler). There are also many competitions all around America where a quilter can enter their quilt into a quilting contest. In these quilting competitions there is a possibility to win monetary rewards and gain recognition from other well known quilters. One of the largest known competitions is provided by America's Quilter's Society. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Initial Thoughts From Patchwork Texts Essay This essay sets out to combine initial thoughts from patchwork texts to explore how to become a primary science leader. Patchwork texts are outlined by Winter (2003) as a series of small sections which can be complete in itself, but becomes finalised when they are put together. Upon the initial mention of patchwork texts, I was rather unsure and confused about what it entailed. After further investigation in seminar and through extra readings I have begun to develop a better understanding of this type of assessment. I could see the benefits to this type of format but also some uncertainties. Just like the peers in my group I had reservations about uploading my patches online due to embarrassment of writing styles and opinions of my work. Ovens (2003) highlights that some students had personal doubt and worries about their own ideas and felt vulnerable at the prospect of having these ideas discussed in class. However, having others see my 'patches' provided me with feedback and enabled me to reflect and deepen my understanding of each topic (Ovens, 2003 and Winter, 2003). It was almost instant and allowed me to reflect during my thinking process, which Boud (2000) believes enables a deeper understanding of individual weaknesses. Assessments are supposed to stimulate learning; by having this continuous assessment it gave me time to develop my thinking and make sense of it (Ovens, 2003; Winter, 2003; Trevelyan and Wilson, 2012). Henceforth, resulting in a deeper understanding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparing Love In The Great Gatsby And The Awakening Love is a major theme in almost every novel and is one of the key characteristics in many plots. Love can affect a character's decisions, emotions, and overall actions which is what makes it one of the most influential themes. That is why I chose love for my theme because it is present in everything people do. Love is an impactful theme in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen, A Patchwork Planet by Anne Tyler, and The Awakening by Kate Chopin. The Great Gatsby showed the theme of love in two significant ways. One way was Gatsby's love for the past and things that could never exist again, and another was Gatsby's totally blinding love for Daisy no matter what she did. Love can be see in A Doll's House through Nora's feelings towards her children, which she ignorantly thought were love and in Torvald's superficial love for Nora. Love appears in A Patchwork Planet in a much more subtle way. It can be seen between Barnaby and Opal in a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These novels changed my outlook on the world by showing me that love is not always perfect and it doesn't always work out in the end. I learned that true love is not flawless and always works out, true love is a choice not a chance. I've understood from these beautiful works of literature that true love does not appear between two people, those people have to be willing to work out any problems that will come and work on the relationship constantly. Gatsby and Daisy's failed relationship in The Great Gatsby taught me that relationships cannot just work out on their own, they take cooperation. Gatsby wasn't willing to comply with Daisy's new and mature needs while Daisy wasn't willing to put in the effort and leave her husband for Gatsby. Had the two of them be willing to work together and put in the effort, ignoring Daisy's evil side and that she was no good for Gatsby, they could have had a healthy ... Just to pass the time of day with him, (Shivers) like a raw wind that gets to the bone" (Glaspell). Minnie has suffered because of Mr. Wright's cold and unfeeling nature. "Her isolation, the gloom of her surroundings, and her husband's dispassion slowly drove her to the brink of insanity" (Galen). When only the bird was holding Minnie in the house was killed, she saw no reason that she should stay with her husband in that house. The men think women lack intelligence because of their gender. After, the women look at the canary, birdcage, and thequilt they figure out how the husband died. In the drama "Trifles," the quilt symbolizes Minnie's state of mind and it shows in her stitching how nervous and angry she feels. The patchwork of Minnie's life represents loneliness and isolation. Usually when women do patchwork it consists of a cloth that has meaning behind it to treasure it. Women in a group come together and work on their patchwork or they help each other, but Minnie had no one to help her and she felt lonely. Minnie's stitching goes from perfect and orderly to messy and uneven, the stitching shows how nervous Minnie was at the time. The events happening in the house is a reflect on Minnie's stitching. Quilts in Colonial America resembled their culture and lands from which the quilters had come from. The wealthy and social prominent settlers in the south began to make patchwork quilts after the middle class and poor women had been working on patchwork for hundreds of years. The Puritans brought sturdy fabrics and simple designs, and in northeastern America the colors were more colorful. Linsey–woolsey, also known as woolen bedcovers were not often made as a staple within the household. The woolen bedcovers were made of a woolen or glazed worsted fabric dyed in neutral colors as a top layer, with the filling was a soft layer of carded wool; the layers were held together ... Analysis of Patches: Quilt and Community in Alice Walker's Everyday Use In a critique titled "Patches: Quilt and Community in Alice Walker's 'Everyday Use'" (Short Story Criticism: Excerpts from Criticism of the Works of Short Fiction Writers, 1990), the authors reveal that tradition and the explanation of holiness were key elements throughout the story. The writers began the analysis by discussing the significance of a quilt; a quilt is a complete piece of artwork that is essentially made up of fragments. These patchwork quilts, when effectively put together, exposed a way of life. The Africans traditional way of life was one of sacredness and usefulness. The older of the two girls, she liked the finer things in life. She was energetic and loved to stand out through her personality and clothes. The colorful clothes she was wearing when she arrived made this obvious. Dee, who changed her name to Wangero after joining "...the radical, black nationalists of the 1960s and 1970s...," was now promoting"... a suddenly fashionable, or stylish, interest in what she passionately describes as her 'heritage'" (416). Through the influence of American fashion, Wangero corresponds her own style to the notion that black is beautiful. The girl who once despised African custom now supports the traditions and wants to acquire the precious quilts made by her grandmother which were promised to her sister. However, Dee only shows her detachment from traditional ways by wanting the quilts because they are "fashionable" and "priceless" (416). In most cases the history was recorded by the biased slant of the male–dominated society. Clark points out in her introduction, The goal is to give some basic information on women's lives in late antiquity, and to make a start on answering some fundamental questions: to what extent could women choose what to do? Futhermore, Hendel then establishes that the three sources, J, P, and E, which are responsible for the blended Genesis we interpret today have conflicts much more symbolic than merely a variation on their names for God but rather differ significantly on their illustrations of God's deportment. It works as a commemoration for social and personally expressive. During the 20 centuries, many people who died of AIDS related causes did not have funerals since the surviving family members felt social imputation of AIDS, and many funeral homes or cemeteries refused to accept the deceased's remains. This social phenomenon made AIDS activist, Cleve Jones, have an idea for the AIDS MemorialQuilt. In the candlelight March in1985, Jones asked people to write the names of their family members who were killed by the AIDS–related causes on signs. Then he was inspired by the signs that were taped on the San Francisco Federal Building. To Jones, all the signs looked like a huge patchwork quilt. In 1987, Cleve Jones, Mike Smith, and volunteers first started the NAMES project in San Francisco. Patchwork Commentary Patchwork Analysis Eavan Boland's unique poem, Patchwork, allows the reader to be privy to the private thoughts of a persona, presumably the author herself, as she struggles to answer the question of fate or destiny. Throughout the poem, while quilting alone late at night, the speaker puzzles over the randomness of the universe, utilizing the simple quilt metaphor to inspire a final epiphany. Immediately revealing the central theme of the poem as well as alluding to the narrator's apparent self–doubt, the first stanza is an imperative aspect of this piece. The speaker begins by stating that she has "been thinking at random on the universe, or rather, how nothing in the universe is random". So commences her journey to solve the question: ... In addition, upon describing her "secondhand sewing machine", the narrator further exposes her self–depreciating character. In the fifth stanza, the speaker makes inconsiderable progress in solving the crucial question regarding the randomness of the universe. As she realizes the overwhelming number of uncertainties in the universe, the woman chooses instead to concentrate on the task at hand, turning her "back...to the dark" or the unknowns. However, she is unable to resist the compelling temptation of mystery, and quickly attempts to contemplate the "stars and bits of stars and little bits of bits" which reside throughout the universe. While the "bits" in this statement signify randomness, the "stars" represent the unknown. This symbolism, coupled with the use of repetition and alliteration, emphasize the woman's sheer confusion on the matter at hand. The vast uncertainty of the universe has forced her to consider the possibility of a wholly random universe. The persona's confusion is confirmed through her question: "is it craft or art?" In this circumstance, "craft" represents a universe in which fate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How to Quilt Like a Pro: Tips and Tricks for Beginning Quilters If you're inexperienced at quilting and feel intimidated by it overall, I want to ensure you that nearly everyone feels that way initially – beginning quilters generally feel a bit lost until they have practiced their newly acquired skills for some time. Although quilting may seem daunting until you know what you're doing, don't give up on it! The ultimate results can be rewarding, indeed. Why do I wish to encourage you to forge ahead in your efforts to get started (or continue) at basic quilting? One reason is that the art of quilting is rich in historical significance. This craft was introduced to Europeans as far back as the 12th century. Quilting gave women a means of social interaction while remaining productive. • 21. A Patchwork Planet Character Analysis We assume that our family members care about each other and wants nothing but the best for us, because they are the closes people in our lives. In some cases, this is not always true. Simply because they share the same blood, does not mean they are necessarily in your camp. In the novel, A Patchwork Planet, through Barnaby's relationship with his family, with the members of Rent–A–Back and with Martine and Pop–Pop, Anne Tyler suggest that people who have your best interest at heart manifest their care through action. Ever since Barnaby was born, his family makes it clear that they are ashamed of him. Primarily, Margot always looks down upon him. Even since his day of birth, because he was born late*. Also, the fact that his parents send him away to Renascence where he is isolated from his family for twelve months a year, indicates that Barnaby's parents do not have his wellbeing at heart (86). The result of Barnaby's isolation affects his mindset, in other words, he is always indecisive because he allows his family's judgments of him affect his own opinion. Moreover, during Barnaby's 30th birthday celebration at his parents' house, Margot criticizes his career: "Of course he would rather work elsewhere! ... He's spitting in the Foundation's face! He has deliberately chosen employment that has no lasting point to it, no reputation, no future in preference to work that's of permanent significance [sic]" (79). To what extent does Effectuation theory account for marketing decisions made by entrepreneurs for establishing and building products/services in a new market? Abstract Marketing compliments a product, the corporate identity and their relationship with the audience. Success is dependent on consumer satisfaction – marketing helps orient strategic business thinking in this direction, in a relatively hostile environment saturated by competition. Albeit a start–up's growth style and structure at its early stages make it difficult to apply textbook marketing techniques. Some of the more prominent issues around this include an absent brand presence, the affordance of risk–taking and expenditure flexibility. This paper aims to understand what... The number of possible outcomes are infinite, with the tools readily available, which is incredibly important if you are a first mover in a market – choices made at this stage will set an example that market space, and quality to match for others. Entrepreneurs may have restrictions with tools and resources, yet possess enough flexibility to experiment in their field. This is not only applicable from a product development standpoint, but also for marketing decisions. Success is an achievement on the premise that the product/service has been proved reputable by consumers. What are the areas of Effectuation theory? Effectuation is analogous to giving a carpenter "a toolbox and some wood and asked to build whatever he or she chooses" as opposed to asking them "to build a desk" (Sarasvathy, 2001a) – the latter is considered as casual reasoning or causation, where a predetermined goal is provided at the start with a set of means–to–an–end (Sarasvathy, 2001b). It is, in fact, far more convoluted than suggested yet the example highlights a key element of effectuation – that it demands creative prowess in the form of "imagination, spontaneity, risk–taking and salesmanship" (Sarasvathy, 2001b). • 24. Hawaiian Quilting Research Paper Makena Tongg–Woodall Saculla, 1:30 Traditional Hawaiian Quilting Hawaiian Quilting is a very important part of Hawaiian culture. Hawaiian quilts are a combination of Polynesian heritage and American quilting. The Missionaries used quilts for warmth during the winter. But Hawaiians used them as an art form, as decoration and to express important things in their lives. Traditional quilts are very delicate and some contain around 200,000 hand stitches. Humidity, heat, salt air and insects can easily affect quilts. Many traditional quilts never survived and it is important to save the ones that are still available. Hawaiians believe that the quilts contain a lot of Mana (power or spirit). On April 3rd, 1820, the women attended the first sewing circle on the ship, Thaddeus. The Royal women... Once you have all your materials together you need to use the snowflake technique to make your own design. Once you finish the design you need to baste the material down to your background material. Basting is a technique used to fasten down the material using large stitches. After basting you need to start stitching around the edges of the pattern. Next step is to place the batting underneath the material and fasten it together using the basting technique. Once it's fastened you need to begin the echo stitching. Chapter 6 Overview The final section of this dissertation will focus on reflecting upon the experience of undertaking a dissertation, what learning has occurred and how this will influence future practice as a staff nurse working in the NHS. The author will utilise Rolfe, Freshwater and Jasper's (2001) model. The author chose this model as it is a simpler model than Gibbs (1998) model, Rolfe et al (2001) poses the questions 'What? So what? And Now what?' The author felt due to its simplicity that this model was more suited to this reflection. What? The author undertook a twelve thousand word dissertation as part of a BSc (Hons) nursing degree. The dissertation has been completed as a patchwork text order, consisting of 4 separate pieces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So what? From completing this dissertation the author has learnt just how important research is and how essential it is for nurses to have an in–depth understanding of the care they are giving to their patients. This dissertation has helped the author have a great knowledge on CBT and just how effective and valuable it is in treating people who have sexually offended. Undertaking a patchwork assessment made the author reflect upon patient care and although we may consider an individual's care needs individually, holistic care is the ultimate aim in delivering high quality patient care. Holistic care is seeing the patient as a physical, spiritual and psychological whole and not just focusing on one particular area (NursingTimes.Net 2009). A patchwork text is a type of assessment which consists of smaller sections that once put together becomes a comprehensible and combined piece of work (Scoggins and Winter 1999). Research is essential in all areas of nursing as nurses have a duty to ensure they are up to date with all relevant developments in nursing and should be able to give rationale for all care they give. Nursing research expands the evidence base and improves clinical practice (NursingTimes.Net 2014). Nurses need to have the ability to research a subject in order to keep up to date with the ever changing nursing practice and ultimately improve the delivery of care to our ... Often it is better to paraphrase what an author has said as opposed to using lengthy direct quotations. But what does it mean 'to paraphrase'? According to the MacMillan English Dictionary (MacMillan, 2012:online), to paraphrase is "to express what someone else has said or written using different words, especially in order to make it shorter or clearer." Why this is plagiarism Notice that the writer has not only "borrowed" Chase's material (the results of her research) with no acknowledgment, but has also largely maintained the author's method of expression and sentence structure. The phrases in red are directly copied from the source or changed only slightly in form. Even if the student–writer had acknowledged Chase as the source of the content, the language of the passage would be considered plagiarized because no quotation marks indicate the phrases that come directly from Chase. • 28. The Infamous Patchwork Mouse Case The universal principle that underlines all work conducted in the field of science is that the knowledge yielded from scientific discovery can never be considered to be indisputable truth as it is derived solely from the human perspective of the world and, to the greater extent, the tangible universe. As a result, theories brought forward that are considered to be factual one day can be justly discarded the next if enough evidence is produced to form a realised contradiction. It is due to this, therefore, that science holds great authority over how society is able to perceive its surroundings and consequently, how it allows human society to progress. Science is far from 'perfect'. As it is conducted by human beings, it is only natural that mistakes and inconsistencies are likely to occur. However, there is a distinct line between work that is genuine and that of work that has been purposely falsified to produce a desired result. This is known as 'pseudoscience' (or scientific misconduct) and is largely responsible for the wealth of controversy that has been brought upon science. In particular, this report will focus on a widely–criticized and notorious case of scientific fraud, consisting of how it was perpetrated, what events transpired because of it, the motives of the accused, how the case is likely to bring harm to science and what measures can be employed to rectify any possible instances of future misconduct. Patchwork Boland Summary The Pieces That Fit: An Analysis of Boland's "Patchwork" In her poem "Patchwork", built of nine stanzas varying lengths, Boland's persona finds herself in her dining room late at night working on a sewing project while contemplating the universe. Utilizing various stylistic and structural techniques, Boland's intent is to reconcile the tension between chaos and order for the purpose of ascertaining the meaning of existence. Immediately in the first stanza Boland establishes a persona who will consistently vacillate between between certainty in her understanding of the composition of the universe. The persona is at first contemplative as she thinks at "random on the universe" only to ironically contradict herself when she proclaims that "nothing in the universe is random". Boland's chiasmus here serves to set in place the wavering opinions of the persona that will persist, and such as chime miss oxymorons and contrasting stanza's bar scene repeatedly throughout the piece they are essential in establishing a light reflective tone and mood switch coupled with the use of the first person perspective enables the reader to form eight unquestioning intimate connection with the speaker the security of the near raider is further also to make clear the persona's thesis–– that there is order in the universe. The internet will tell you that it is a "group consisting of parents and children living together in a household." But I beg to differ. Family doesn 't just consist of several people living under one roof: no, a family is a living, breathing organism. Family is messy and it takes effort on everyone 's part to make it function correctly. Is there such thing as a perfect family? No, absolutely not. That 's the message that I got from watching Parenthood. Although hilarious, it was an accurate depiction of a family. I can easily relate to Gill 's family, especially Kevin. When I was a little girl I was anxious about everything. I was anxious over things that really shouldn 't be weighing on a little girls mind. When my family and I would be driving, whether it being across town or across the state, I was a backseat driver. I would be strapped into my car seat, fretting about the weather or if my father was getting too close to another car. When I would hear the gas light come on, I would freak out. I was so terrified that we would run out of gas and be stranded on the road, and I could never calm down unless we pulled over right that minute at a nearest gas station to fill up the car. Thinking back now it's kind of a ridiculous fear, but every now and then I still get anxious when the gaslight comes on. I also relate to Gill so much.
