Mission Month - A Reflection
The celebration of Mission Sunday this year will coincide with the
conclusion in Rome of the Synod of Bishops on the "Pastoral
Challenges to the Family in the Context of Evangelisation." This
helps us to see the importance of evangelisation in all families in
modern Ireland. Mission is for all. It is not necessary to travel to a
far country to be a missionary. Wherever there are people lacking in faith, in hope, in
meaning there is a need for evangelisation.
A Thought: Mission month also directs us to foreign shores. Unfortunately, life in our
world often directs us to wars, poverty, sickness and religious persecution. It is hard to
imagine that in 2014 we are living in a world where approximately
16,000 babies are dying in our world every day from malnutrition, with
just under one billion people going to bed hungry every night.
Vocations in our Diocese
Fr. Jim will be attending a vocations conference in Maynooth in the
2. coming days. This conference is to reflect on the Vocations crisis in the Irish Church,
with a hope of finding new ways to encourage men to respond to the call of Christ.
Please continue to pray for Vocations in our diocese.
November Envelopes for Our Deceased
The greatest gift is to place the names of our loved ones on the Altar to be remembered
before the sacred Eucharist.
As we approach November envelopes with the list are now available at the back and
side door of the Church. Please take one home and fill in the names of your deceased
loved ones and return the list to us via the Sunday Collection or drop it into the
Presbytery. All names will be remembered in Masses and prayers offered during
November. Please enclose your donation.
