Evaluation – How effective is it
1. Evaluation – How effective is the
combination of your main product
and ancillary text?
2. Firstly, What are the products?
• The main product is the music video. It was 3 minute
and 27 second video of Another One Bites The Dust
by the band Queen. The video we created was about
two men who have a long standing feud with each
other. One of these men steals the other mans
girlfriend. This narrative ends with the men meeting
up to fight but it results in prison.
• Another product that me and the group made was a
digipak. This was for some songs from Queen
(including Another One Bites The Dust) and a DVD of
live footage from the band.
• Lastly we created an advert for the digipak. This
included pictures of the band.
3. Was the combination effective?
Now I am evaluating the work I feel like the products are effective. They were effective as the
products all had synergy. Each of the products have some kind of links.
• In the music video it included a narrative with three characters two males and one female.
These characters are also shown in the digipak. The protagonist and the antagonist have
their own tab featuring their face, this is because the are the main characters. On the CD
(which was placed between the characters) was a picture of the females hands tied up, to
show what the males were fighting about. In the video we see the girlfriend tied up to
some bars linking the products. On the DVD was a silhouette of one of the band members.
He was also positioned in the famous stance of the lead singer. This gives it the reference
to the original band.
• In the advert it included pictures of the band members eyes. This was because in the
music video we had sections of the band playing their instruments. We focused just on the
eyes because we wanted the music to sell rather than star appeal. That is also shown in
the video, as the main focus is the music not the band. The advert also links to the original
band as Queen have an album called Breakthrough. This albums front cover focus on the
bands eyes and nothing else.
• The digipak and advert have synergy with the font of the text and colours. Both products
include a simple black background so the audience can focus on the images and
information rather than the background. The band name and digipak name was the
same font so the audience can recognise the products.
4. Here are screen shots from the
music video and the advert. The
band members are unclear in
the video but in the advert the
eyes are clear to see.
