2. A necessity or a problem
The first step of consumer decision is a necessity or a problem. You
could have something that you absolutely need, or just something that
you want
3. Example #1
An example on this necessity or problem could be my car breaking
down.
This would be a necessity. I need my car to travel to work, school and
home
4. Researching
Typically, the second step of consumer decision making is doing some
research. You’ll usually research prices to see if you’re getting the best
price or which products are the best products to purchase
5. Example #2
To do research for my new car, I would first start by looking a few things
up. Usually, if you’re looking to buy a car, you’re going to look for the
make/model, reliability, and gas mileage
6. Information Search
Stage three of the consumer decision making is basically the same as
stage two. You’re going to look up more information. You’ll typically
look up reviews of the product you’re looking to buy
7. Example #3
Once you’ve looked up everything in example #2, I would start looking
up reviews of cars. I would find a website that states honest opinions
about cars. I know when I was searching for cars, I found out the VWs
that range from 2005-2009 are notorious for transmissions and turbos
going bad
8. Decision Time
The fourth stage is making a decision on what you want to buy. You will
finally put all of your knowledge of the product to the test and choose
what’s best for you
9. Example #4
The time to make my decision has come. I did my research on what was
best for me and I chose to buy a Chevy Malibu. I found that Chevys are
very reliable and good on gas which was perfect for me. Also, a little
bonus is it was a very nice car. It came with red leather seating and
perfect space
10. Post Evaluation
The final stage of consumer decision making is making sure you made
the right choice. Typically when you buy something, you still continue
to look up the product just to make sure you made the right choice
11. Example #5
I finally purchased my new car and I still look for cars two months after
I made my purchase. It’s just a habit of making sure I got a good deal.
