page of Cornell Notes. Among other things
(and there should be more to it than just
these!), look for the following issues
discussed in the section.
• Candidates and who each represented
• Candidate’s (and/or Party’s) view on
slavery
• The idea of secession
• States’ Rights and its justification
• Election results and the reaction

On the top half, students read page 442
about Lincoln’s Inaugural Address and
summarize his sentiments in one sentence.
Next, they write a 3-sentence summary of
the reading on page 443 about Fort
Sumter.
On the bottom half, students redraw the
map found on page 441. The map should
include a key of the states (each is labeled
as well) with the boundary drawn out as
well. Colors don’t have to match the page
in the book, but should be accurate.
