Getting Feedback to Improve Magazine Design
1.
2. Overview
I have gained feedback from six people in my class
for my style sheets, pitch and flat plans.
The feedback tells me what they like about it, what
they would change about it and what is most
interesting about it.
I then summarised the feedback and chose what I
agreed with and why, and what I did not agree with
and why.
From this feedback I can make appropriate changes
to my designs, therefore improving it.
3. Most people said that they really liked the use of possible fonts,
and they thought that the masthead fonts fitted with my chosen
genre.
They also said that they liked the use of event images but they
were all very similar and that I should have a mix of live photos
and photos from a studio, or different types.
My feedback also told me that they liked the colour scheme I
had chosen and that it works well with the type of magazine I
am creating. For example one comment said ‘Interesting use of
bright and garish colours to pull the specific audience in’.
Although one feedback said that they didn’t agree with the
colour scheme in idea 2, (black, red, brown and white) because
it didn’t fit the genre of electronic dance music.
4. I agree that I need to use more of a range of photos and that all the
photos I used are similar. Using a range of photography style will make
my magazine more interesting with more variety.
For example choosing a range of photos didn’t occur to me before
when I was choosing my photos, I though the live DJ ones all look best. I
then analysed some magazines of a similar genre and this made it clear
to me that they all use a variety of different photos, because you can’t
gain all you want from one style of image.
Somebody also suggested that I showed some examples of magazines
of where I got my inspiration for colours and fonts from, which I agree is
a good idea. Making a link to existing products and the creation of
mine.
People also said they liked the use of bright and garish colours to suit my
specific genre, and that it works well with the theme.
5. I think the comment about idea 2 not fitting with
electronic dance music is fair for some body’s point
of view.
Although I think that it helped me to try out a range
of colour schemes as ideas to see what worked.
Because there is an obvious colour scheme for
electronic dance music, being black and white with
a bright colour such as pink or yellow. I wanted to try
other things out to see if I could use something
different, I have also done ideas based on black,
white, pink and yellow.
6. I have added a more varied range of photo style, some being
live some being posed.
I have also chosen to definitely not use idea 2, because
although it breaks the stereotypical electronic dance music
theme, I have decided I want to stick with this, because it tells
the audience straight away what to expect and what genre I
am covering.
I am going to keep the fonts I have used as they all proved very
popular in my feedback and they fit perfectly with my genre.
Which means I am now asking feedback for their preference of
font out of the couple I have used on my style sheets, at the
moment the hazy one on idea 3 seems the most popular.
I am also going to create a document on existing products that I
gained inspiration from for my colours and designs, which was
suggested in my feedback.
