2. Close up
• The first shot we see is a close up on a birthday
cake, this could be to indicate that it is someone's
birthday however with the rest of the shot
blacked out it gives the cake and the girl standing
behind it a sense of mystery and makes it clear
that this shot is within a dream.
3. Close up
• Another close up is used when we first see Sarah lying in her
hospital bed attached to hospital equipment. The camera is
higher than Sarah, this could be to show how weak she is at
the moment. There is also a close up on the heat beat
monitor, this could be symbolizing that her life is gone and she
is dead on the inside.
4. Mid Shot
• A mid shot is used when Sarah is first getting out
of her hospital bed, the camera is still above her
to signify her confusion and weakness in the
scene. This shot is also like she is being reborn
into this world, representing her new life that she
is about to live without her husband and
daughter.
5. Wide Shot
• A wide shot is used when Sarah first comes
into the hospital corridor, this is to establish
the corridor. This shot also established that
she is isolated and alone, almost like she is
trapped.
6. Trombone Shot
• The trombone shot is used in a moment of
realization, as Sarah is finally fully aware that she
is inside a hospital. The trombone shot gives the
effect that something dangerous is following
Sarah, we know this to be the shadows.
7. Steadicam Shot
• In this shot a Steadicam is being used when
Sarah is running down the corridor, this is to
give the effect that she is being chased by the
darkness and she has no one to help her
however in reality it is all in her mind.
8. Arc Shot
• An arc shot is used when Beth and Sarah are
reunited, the arc shot is used as they have no
where else to go within the corridor. The arc
shot going around Beth and Sarah symbolizes
the only thing that Sarah has left in her life her
sister.
