1. ISI TECHNOLOGY
REINVENTING WATER HEATING
PROBLEM / SOLUTION
Billions of people around the globe heat water using electricity every day for a
variety of uses. All electric water heaters use the same 100 year-old heat
transfer technology, which has proven to be an inefficient, unreliable, and
inflexible water heating process, with no possible advances in technology. New
Department of Energy efficiency standards make water heaters using this
technology more problematic than before.
What makes ISI’s patented digital technology revolutionary is that we eliminate
failure-prone heating elements and utilize any conductive liquid as the heating
element. We accomplish this by passing controlled electric currents though the
liquid’s natural electrical resistance. This results in 99+% efficiency, much longer
life, reduced operating costs, interoperability between other devices and
appliances, precise control and measurement, and immediate access to
actionable data. The technology is easily scalable from coffee makers to
desalination plants, and operates equally well in hard or soft water.
PRODUCT
There are over 9 million hot water heaters sold in the United States every year.
ISI Technology’s first product, the MODEL 1, can operate on a standalone basis
or significantly improve the performance of any existing hot water heating
system, anywhere in the world, today. When equipped with optional WiFI module
and connected with smart devices through apps, the Heatworks MODEL 1
enables scheduling, control, and measurement of hot water and electric power
for both consumers and utilities. Sensor packages and a ‘cloud’ back end can
also provide a warning system in the event of water leaks, running toilet, and
can even inform the user about water quality issues.
MANAGEMENT
Jerry Callahan - Founder, Inventor, and CEO: a serial entrepreneur and co-

on this technology in 2006 and secured patents for electrically heating any
conductive liquid in 2010 and 2014.

Mission: Revolutionize water heating
through advanced and patented technology
to significantly reduce energy and water
consumption, drive down device life cycle
costs, increase performance, and produce
actionable data to maximize interoperability
and user satisfaction.
Goal: ISI’s technology will be utilized in
twenty million water heating devices by
2020.
Impact: There are numerous commercial,
industrial, and residential applications. In
the home, water heating represents 15-18%
of total energy consumption. ISI’s technology
reduces this by up to 40%.
Product: ISI Technology is currently
shipping its first two products, the Heatworks
MODEL 1 and MODEL 1X, which are
assembled by Flextronics in Columbia, SC.
MSRP is $469/$499. Over 2800 units are in
the field. Designed to replace and/or
augment existing water heaters, we will
rollout in several hundred big box DIY stores
in Q3 2015. Other channel partners (private
label, wholesale, technology licensing,
insurance companies) in process.
Market: The US market is about $3B ($20B
for ROW) and the MODEL 1’s addressable
market is 4.5M units. Newly released energy
conservation requirements issued in April
2015 by the US Dept. of Energy have
eliminated large electric tank heaters, and
made remaining models physically larger and
more expensive. The MODEL 1 and MODEL
1X solve the resulting space and cost
problems.
Benefits:
• Energy efficiency >99%
• Energy savings of up to 40%
• Water savings of 5-10%
• Reduced life-cycle costs
• Rust proof all plastic construction
• Space saving 12.5” X 6”
• Instant hot water eliminates wait
• Unprecedented control options
• Precise measurement options
• 12 year, full unit exchange guarantee
Proof points:
• Strong IP
• Shipping product since 2/2015
• Retail program in place with Lowe’s
• Significant interest from channel and
strategic partners
