2. MODE OF ACTION
Linagliptin is a selective inhibitor of DPP-4
(Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4), an enzyme that
degrades the incretin hormones glucagon-
like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-
dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).
Lintin (Linagliptin) increases the
concentrations of active incretin hormones,
glucose-dependent insulin secretion and
lowers glucagon secretion, thus resulting in
better regulation of glucose haemostasis.
4. INDICATION
Monotherapy
Lintin (Linagliptin) tablet is indicated as an adjunct to
diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in
adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Combination Therapy
Lintin (Linagliptin) tablet can be administered as a
combination with metformin when diet and exercise
plus metformin alone do not provide adequate
glycemic control or in combination with a
sulphonylurea and metformin when diet and exercise
plus dual therapy do not provide adequate glycemic
control.
5. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION …
Recommended Dosing:
The recommended dose is 5 mg once daily. Lintin
(Linagliptin) tablets can be taken with or without food at
any time of the day. If a dose is missed, it should be taken
as soon as possible but a double dose should not be taken
on the same day.
Concomitant Use:
When Linagliptin is used in combination with an insulin
secretagogue e.g., sulfonylurea or with insulin, a lower
dose of the insulin secretagogue or insulin may be
required to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. If used with
metformin, the dose of metformin should be maintained.
