First thing is the viewpoints and attitudes towards healthcare, nurses take the nursing approach, where physician assistant’s take a medical style. (nursingjournal, 2017) “Nurse practitioners (NPs) work in a variety of settings. So do physician assistants (PAs). They can both be found in hospitals and clinics, from rural to urban practices. PAs care for a variety of conditions. So do NPs. They both treat illnesses, provide patient teaching and prescribe medications, often acting as the primary care provider.” (2011, January 09) Both professions are important and are needed to assist in the growing demand on health care. They both have advantages and disadvantages. NP’s are a little freer as in they can practice in their own clinic whereas PA’s need to have a medical doctor oversee their work. Nurse practitioners are considered part of the advance practice nursing core, but the difference between APN’s and NP’s is the path of specialty they go towards. NP are often more of a general practitioner, where other APN’s specialize in areas such as mid-wife’s, or anesthesiology. “the clinical nurse specialist (CNS) role was created for the following reasons: (1) to provide direct care to patients with complex diseases or conditions; (2) to improve patient care by developing the clinical skills and judgement of staff nurses; and (3) to retain nurses who are experts in clinical practice.” (Hamric, 2014, p. 359) Many people if they do not feel like there is advancement in their job or profession will quit and move to another job, nursing is no different. Human beings are viewed as unique life experiences. My personal philosophy of the advanced practice nurse is one who is compassionate, empathetic, well-rounded both in education and life experience. Communication, in abstract patterns, are just one of the aspects of an individually high level of complexity, as well as diversity, which sum up to further advance the knowledge of self and environment (Metaparadigm Concepts, 2014). It is important, not just for advanced practice nurses, but all nurses, to understand the value of every human being and to respect their decisions regarding their own health as well as providing appropriate guidance and coaching to live a healthy and full life.

Included in the metaparadigm concepts, involvement are the areas of nursing, person, health, and the environment, thus they further comprise the advanced-practice nurse (APN) and the concepts are as follows:
Nursing: when speaking in terms of nursing we look at what we do as nurses which includes our actions as well as interventions. This involves applying our professional knowledge already gained as well as direct and indirect patient contact (Thompson, 2017).
Person: involving family and close friends, including other caretakers for a patient, and that a nurse is engaged in the care of the patient across the lifespan (Thompson, 2017).
Health: this can be a relative term to each person as an individual and it is based on the patient’s perspective and understanding that each person has a different perspective, or idea, of healthy versus not healthy (Thompson, 2017).
Environment: can be any number of things which can include internal and external factors which can have an impact on a person’s health and this could include, but not limited to things such as genetics, culture, relationships, geographical location, etc., (Thompson, 2017).

Critical thinking skills, current research which translate into knowledge and skills into the nursing profession and thus must be goal-oriented, deliberate and systematic. Being A Charge Nurse Essay

Family nurse practitioner (FNP) is my specialty. A family nurse practitioner can be defined as a registered nurse who has specialized clinical and educational training in family unit. FNPs work autonomously or collaborating with other health professionals to deliver family-focused care. FNPs are trained to work with infants, adults, and elderlies in the context of family unit practice and clinical setting. Family nurse practitioners are usually masters/doctoral-educated, certified nationally and state-licensed registered nurses who provide care for the patients/clients across their lifespan. FNPs provide health care services to family unit ranging from health promotion to direct care to disease prevention and counseling. Family nurse practitioners work with their patients on maintaining health as well as wellness with the main focus of preventative care (Barnes, 2015). Most family nurse practitioners choose to operate in underserved communities or populations.

Nurses play a crucial and essential role in delivering patient’s quality of care, being the most direct caregivers for many of them. Nurses like Florence Nightingale, Isabel Hampton, and Lilian Wald were heroes who provided a tremendous knowledge that nowadays we are still using, and made a profound difference in the quality of care of patients, being their legacies followed today (Black, 2017, p. 324). Nursing has evolved in various aspects meaning that many changes have occurred in ways that are responsive to changes in the environment we are surrounded for. One of the changes we can observe in which this nursing field has evolved is gender equality knowing that in previous decades, and when Florence Nightingale started her nursing profession was a female dominated career where only women were the ones who provided care for patient, but today many males’ candidates are practicing the profession and are involved in patient’s care.
The way they used to dress was totally different and not the same we use to wear today, they worn long white dresses, white hats, and white stockings, and nowadays nurses wear comfortable and beautiful scrubs, no hats, no dresses, and appropriate shoes and socks as well. As time has passed nurses have grown into highly specialized, and respected members of health care teams being a key element of the healthcare industry. Nursing education 100 years ago was a more direct training on how to address doctors, while nursing education today is more complex, formal, and comprehensive than it was before. Actually, today we as nurses need to take a complex and national exam as a requirement for becoming a licensed RN. While we get more knowledge and foundation of a stronger education we take into consideration the patient’s responsibility in our shoulders, and especially when we become advanced practice nurses.
The impact of technology has allowed nurses become more precise, and efficient, alleviating some of the physical demands. The way nurses do their job today is easier than before keeping in mind that patient’s records are digital helping us with less paperwork, and preventing human mistakes on charts, that way is easier for us while doing an assessment on a patient. Another advantage we have with technology use is using the mobile apps to look up any medical information, as well as the special beds and chairs providing us a more comfortable environment as we don’t have to do so much heavy lifting (Dawn, 2016).
Today, Nursing is what I expected when I entered this education. Although I never imagined being a nurse, I’m more than happy and proud of myself for having chosen this beautiful career. This teaches me every day to be a better person and value the love and care I provide to people who really need my help. I always thought about the tremendous responsibility I would have while dealing with real people who are really sick, but I’m always eager to learn new things and expand my knowledge to be more success.

Concept Synthesis Paper on Personal Nursing Philosophy
The purpose of this paper is to identify, describe, and apply the concepts that underlie my personal nursing philosophy. I will give a brief overview of my nursing background, identify and describe the four metaparadigms of nursing, provide two other practice specific concepts that apply to my practice, and include a numbered list of five propositions that apply to those concepts.
Nursing Autobiography
When I was little, I dreamed of becoming a flight attendant, a lawyer, an architect, and a doctor. I never saw myself become a nurse someday. I must admit that my only motivation for pursuing a nursing degree in college was to get to the United States and make good money. But I didn't think that I would someday love the profession I never even imagined doing. It is for this reason that I believe that nursing is a calling. Being a nurse has its bittersweet moments and surely takes a lot of compassion, patience, empathy, and strength. While it's true that the long hour shifts can be physically exhausting, it's witnessing the most devastating situations in life that make this profession very challenging. On the contrary, our ability to heal, save lives, and make a difference in our patients' lives and their families, truly is very rewarding and incomparable to nothing. Being a nurse for almost five years has opened my eyes and changed my views about life and all other things. I first started working on a Telemetry/Neuro floor for about a year and a half before I decided to venture out and ended up working in an extremely busy ER in downtown Jacksonville, FL. I worked there for two years, and though it was a highly stressful environment, I enjoyed almost every minute of it. The ER has the kind of culture that is fast-paced, task-oriented, informative, and team driven. Having passed my certification in emergency nursing (CEN) recently, I can say that my knowledge base, assessment, and critical thinking skills, which I often use to guide me in my clinical decision making, have significantly improved since I became an ER nurse. It has molded me into a strong, hard-working, and competent nurse that I am today.

I was admitted to South University to become Nurse Practitioner specialized in family practice. The role of Nurse Practitioner family practice is purely of clinical nature. It is mainly based on acquiring a sufficient or formal degree of knowledge and skills to do a task effectively, safely, and with competency. It is imperative for Nurse Practitioners to demonstrate that they are qualified with special attributes, skills, and knowledge to be able to deal with medical issues pertaining to disease and death, a situation traditionally carried out by physicians. Through the demonstration of these attributes, Nurse Practitioners elevate and separate them from the traditional nursing role, giving the opportunity to the physicians to corroborate their value in medicine, convincing them, the patients, and their families that Nurse Practitioners are trustworthy enough to carry out the patients’ clinical management at an advanced level. The authors of this article use a qualitative approach as a design to examine the role of nurse practitioners (NPs) as educators of family medicine residents in order to better understand the interprofessional dynamics in a clinical teaching setting in an urban area in southern Ontario, Canada.
In order to develop this research, first year (8 of 9) and second year (9 of 10) family medicine residents were used as participants and utilized audiotaped and transcribed semistructured interviews.
They were able to identify several points that served as the base for their study. These points included role clarification, professional identity formation, factors that enhance the educational role of NPs, and factors that limit the educational role of NPs. The function of NPs were recognized by the majority of the residents, but they were not sure about the NPs scope of practice. In fact, they responded differently to teaching by NPs. First year residents believed that nurse practitioner offer a better approach when teaching and they perceive a decreased sense of susceptibility when being taught by NPs. On the other hand, second year residents preferred being taught from physician teachers alleging that they needed to think like physicians. This created some discomfort among senior residents and did not appreciate the role of nurse practitioners in providing supervision of the day-to-day care of patients. Compare the primary care NP role with other APN roles. What are the similarities among the roles, what are the differences, and how would you communicate the role to a healthcare provider and a consumer?
The advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) has different roles and responsibilities that nurses can undertake depending on the nature of their training. An APRN can also be referred to as a nurse practitioner (NP). There are other designated roles other than the NP such as the clinical nurse specialist (CNS), the certified nurse-midwives (CNM), and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) (Everett et al., 2016). These roles have similarities and differences and many cases of overlapping responsibilities and in some cases, the need for collaboration to achieve the desired patient outcomes. The primary care NP is a specific role within the purview of NPs in which the provider is a general practitioner without any specialty training (Butler et al., 2017). The NP has roles such as completing patient assessments including conducting a physical examination. The primary care NP can also undertake diagnostic approaches such as ordering lab works and imaging procedures and providing appropriate interpretation. The NP can provide treatment and monitoring of the patient and also provide health education and other primary prevention measures.
One similarity of the role of primary NP to other APRN roles is that they have the scope to conduct independent patient assessments. All roles of the APRN have the scope of taking the patient's history, conducting a proper physical exam, and ensuring an appropriate differential diagnosis (Phillips, 2016). The APRN has completed competencies in the assessment of the patient and he/she can use these competencies to determine and fulfill patient needs. Another similarity of the role of the primary care NP to other APRNs is the role of providing patient education, mentoring, and advocating for the needs of the patient (Hanks et al., 2018). Each APRN has a responsibility to empower the patient by providing health education about their condition or the treatment process to support their autonomy. The patient is the primary decision-maker in the clinical area and providing them with education supports their ability to make proper healthcare decisions.
The role of the primary care NP is different from the role of certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) in the sense of anesthesia and pain management. One of the theorists that speaks to my nursing practice is Madeleine Leininger’s Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality otherwise known as transcultural nursing. The theory of transcultural nursing promotes understanding of both the universally held and common understandings of care among humans and the culture-specific caring beliefs and behaviors that define any particular caring context of interaction (Butts & Rich, 2018, p. 572). Culture is the specific pattern of behavior that distinguishes any society from others and gives meaning to human expressions of care (McFarland & Wehbe-Alamah, 2015). This theory is intended to view the patient as a whole being. As an APN, this theory will allow me to be considerate of my patient’s needs. In turn, they will feel respected and listened to and hopefully this will promote a long-lasting relationship.
Leininger discovered that inadequate knowledge of cultural factors represented a missing link in her ability to provide care (Nelson, 2006). As a future APN, I recognize the need and sometimes missing component of culture care nursing in our women’s health practice today. For example, in South Dakota we have a lot of Native American reservations. Since we see a number of Native American women, I think it would be beneficial for me to better understand their culture and beliefs related to healthcare in order to offer these women expert care.
Also, with Leininger’s transcultural nursing theory she believes seeing the patient as a whole and to appreciate that the patient represents a complex constellation of physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, social, environmental, and economic factors that interact and contribute to the patient’s unique wholeness and influence their ability to participate in health promotion, health maintenance, and disease modifying activities (McFarland & Eipperle, 2008). As an APN, by viewing the patient as a whole and recognizing their diversities, I will provide better patient care in which caring will be the main focus and recognizing that their different beliefs and cultures play a part in their decision making to the different treatment options.

Concept Synthesis Paper on Personal Nursing Philosophy
The purpose of this paper is to identify, describe, and apply the concepts that underlie my personal nursing philosophy. I will give a brief overview of my nursing background, identify and describe the four metaparadigms of nursing, provide two other practice specific concepts that apply to my practice, and include a numbered list of five propositions that apply to those concepts.
Nursing Autobiography
When I was little, I dreamed of becoming a flight attendant, a lawyer, an architect, and a doctor. I never saw myself become a nurse someday. I must admit that my only motivation for pursuing a nursing degree in college was to get to the United States and make good money. But I didn't think that I would someday love the profession I never even imagined doing. It is for this reason that I believe that nursing is a calling. Being a nurse has its bittersweet moments and surely takes a lot of compassion, patience, empathy, and strength. While it's true that the long hour shifts can be physically exhausting, it's witnessing the most devastating situations in life that make this profession very challenging. On the contrary, our ability to heal, save lives, and make a difference in our patients' lives and their families, truly is very rewarding and incomparable to nothing. Being a nurse for almost five years has opened my eyes and changed my views about life and all other things. I first started working on a Telemetry/Neuro floor for about a year and a half before I decided to venture out and ended up working in an extremely busy ER in downtown Jacksonville, FL. I worked there for two years, and though it was a highly stressful environment, I enjoyed almost every minute of it. The ER has the kind of culture that is fast-paced, task-oriented, informative, and team driven. Having passed my certification in emergency nursing (CEN) recently, I can say that my knowledge base, assessment, and critical thinking skills, which I often use to guide me in my clinical decision making, have significantly improved since I became an ER nurse. It has molded me into a strong, hard-working, and competent nurse that I am today.

I was admitted to South University to become Nurse Practitioner specialized in family practice. The role of Nurse Practitioner family practice is purely of clinical nature. It is mainly based on acquiring a sufficient or formal degree of knowledge and skills to do a task effectively, safely, and with competency. It is imperative for Nurse Practitioners to demonstrate that they are qualified with special attributes, skills, and knowledge to be able to deal with medical issues pertaining to disease and death, a situation traditionally carried out by physicians. Through the demonstration of these attributes, Nurse Practitioners elevate and separate them from the traditional nursing role, giving the opportunity to the physicians to corroborate their value in medicine, convincing them, the patients, and their families that Nurse Practitioners are trustworthy enough to carry out the patients’ clinical management at an advanced level. The authors of this article use a qualitative approach as a design to examine the role of nurse practitioners (NPs) as educators of family medicine residents in order to better understand the interprofessional dynamics in a clinical teaching setting in an urban area in southern Ontario, Canada.
In order to develop this research, first year (8 of 9) and second year (9 of 10) family medicine residents were used as participants and utilized audiotaped and transcribed semistructured interviews.
They were able to identify several points that served as the base for their study. These points included role clarification, professional identity formation, factors that enhance the educational role of NPs, and factors that limit the educational role of NPs. The function of NPs were recognized by the majority of the residents, but they were not sure about the NPs scope of practice. In fact, they responded differently to teaching by NPs. First year residents believed that nurse practitioner offer a better approach when teaching and they perceive a decreased sense of susceptibility when being taught by NPs. On the other hand, second year residents preferred being taught from physician teachers alleging that they needed to think like physicians. This created some discomfort among senior residents and did not appreciate the role of nurse practitioners in providing supervision of the day-to-day care of patients. Compare the primary care NP role with other APN roles. What are the similarities among the roles, what are the differences, and how would you communicate the role to a healthcare provider and a consumer?
The advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) has different roles and responsibilities that nurses can undertake depending on the nature of their training. An APRN can also be referred to as a nurse practitioner (NP). There are other designated roles other than the NP such as the clinical nurse specialist (CNS), the certified nurse-midwives (CNM), and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) (Everett et al., 2016). These roles have similarities and differences and many cases of overlapping responsibilities and in some cases, the need for collaboration to achieve the desired patient outcomes. The primary care NP is a specific role within the purview of NPs in which the provider is a general practitioner without any specialty training (Butler et al., 2017). The NP has roles such as completing patient assessments including conducting a physical examination. The primary care NP can also undertake diagnostic approaches such as ordering lab works and imaging procedures and providing appropriate interpretation. The NP can provide treatment and monitoring of the patient and also provide health education and other primary prevention measures.
One similarity of the role of primary NP to other APRN roles is that they have the scope to conduct independent patient assessments. All roles of the APRN have the scope of taking the patient's history, conducting a proper physical exam, and ensuring an appropriate differential diagnosis (Phillips, 2016). The APRN has completed competencies in the assessment of the patient and he/she can use these competencies to determine and fulfill patient needs. Another similarity of the role of the primary care NP to other APRNs is the role of providing patient education, mentoring, and advocating for the needs of the patient (Hanks et al., 2018). Each APRN has a responsibility to empower the patient by providing health education about their condition or the treatment process to support their autonomy. The patient is the primary decision-maker in the clinical area and providing them with education supports their ability to make proper healthcare decisions.
The role of the primary care NP is different from the role of certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) in the sense of anesthesia and pain management. Students learn about welfare economics--the study of how the allocation of resources affects economic well-being--and will discover that under most circumstances, the equilibrium price and quantity is also the one that maximizes welfare. Students will review different sources of externalities and a variety of potential cures and will see that while markets are usually a good way to organize economic activity, governments can sometimes improve market outcomes. Students will see how the U.S. government raises and spends money and the difficulty of making a tax system both efficient and equitable.

One of the theorists that speaks to my nursing practice is Madeleine Leininger’s Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality otherwise known as transcultural nursing. The theory of transcultural nursing promotes understanding of both the universally held and common understandings of care among humans and the culture-specific caring beliefs and behaviors that define any particular caring context of interaction (Butts & Rich, 2018, p. 572). Culture is the specific pattern of behavior that distinguishes any society from others and gives meaning to human expressions of care (McFarland & Wehbe-Alamah, 2015). This theory is intended to view the patient as a whole being. As an APN, this theory will allow me to be considerate of my patient’s needs. In turn, they will feel respected and listened to and hopefully this will promote a long-lasting relationship.
Leininger discovered that inadequate knowledge of cultural factors represented a missing link in her ability to provide care (Nelson, 2006). As a future APN, I recognize the need and sometimes missing component of culture care nursing in our women’s health practice today. For example, in South Dakota we have a lot of Native American reservations. Since we see a number of Native American women, I think it would be beneficial for me to better understand their culture and beliefs related to healthcare in order to offer these women expert care.
Also, with Leininger’s transcultural nursing theory she believes seeing the patient as a whole and to appreciate that the patient represents a complex constellation of physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, social, environmental, and economic factors that interact and contribute to the patient’s unique wholeness and influence their ability to participate in health promotion, health maintenance, and disease modifying activities (McFarland & Eipperle, 2008). As an APN, by viewing the patient as a whole and recognizing their diversities, I will provide better patient care in which caring will be the main focus and recognizing that their different beliefs and cultures play a part in their decision making to the different treatment options.

I chose to further my education in hopes of providing better patient care and education. I want to be seen as an influence and a primary healthcare provider. My goal is to provide specialized, high-leveled care to patients with different backgrounds.
An opinion leader is someone who has strong influence within a work place, giving of their time and experience, and creates strategies to help change an initiative. An opinion leader earns their role after much experience and expertise. Others look to them for advice and new information (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, & O’Grady, 2014).
When problems arise in a work environment, employees will look towards opinion leaders and others who will lead them through the stressors and crises. In order to be successful as an opinion leader, staff must be committed to serving the organization and devote time for teaching. Patient and staff safety should always be at the forefront. Not one person knows all the answers, but once we live through various experiences our abilities and competence improve and widen (Kai Tiaki, 2014).
Communication skills can improve opinion leaders abilities. It is important that communication allows everyone’s voice to be heard, in an open, non-combative manner. In order for piers and other staff to have a positive trusting relationship with the opinion leader, they must feel as though they are being heard and also guided in difficult situations (Pollard & Wild, 2014).
By the end of the summer, I am hoping my schedule allows me to become a preceptor for new graduates. I view that role as being an opinion leader for an individual, which would progress to a small group. I would love the opportunity to mold new fellows with everything I have learned so far as a postpartum nurse. When a newer nurse comes to me for advice, I want them to feel safe. My goal is never to talk down to someone making him or her feel inadequate for coming to me for help in the first place. If I do not know how to solve the issue I have been made aware of, I seek guidance from another senior nurse. I feel as though a good opinion leader wants others to seek their guidance instead of possibly making a mistake.

Discussion: Team Dynamics
As healthcare providers, we should aim to provide safe and quality care to patients while working with other members of the interdisciplinary team. However, teamwork is not always easy. I would like to explicate some of the characteristics of the interdisciplinary team that can prove to be beneficial to teamwork, as well as those that can hinder the teamwork process.
I feel the most important aspect of teamwork is proper communication. Without communication, information cannot be conveyed to other members of the team. According to Lavoie-Tremblay et al. (2014) “team building requires considerable attention to interpersonal and communication skills” (p. 23). Members of the team must also share respect for one another and act in a professional manner through team interactions. Also, I think it is important for each team member to know the role they play within the team. In a study where a Learning Collaborative Program was initiated to help providers learn how to work in a team, they discovered the “teams needed opportunities to first learn about each other’s scope of practice and skill sets, develop a common language for communication, and understand how their scope of practice can be leveraged to improve team functioning and patient care” (Kotecha et al., 2015, p. 228).
There is always another side to every story. There are some conditions that make teamwork in healthcare very difficult. Teamwork can be even more complicated when healthcare providers must make ethical decisions. The members of the interdisciplinary team have different personalities and perspectives that can affect teamwork. Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, and O’Grady (2014) postulate that “these differing positions can lead to creative and collaborative decision making or to a breakdown in communication and lack of problem solving” (p. 329). Other aspects identified by Lavoie-Tremblay et al. (2014) that can impact teamwork are psychological demands (of the job), social support (from colleagues and superiors), effort-reward balance, and healthcare providers’ experience with patients (p. 19). These aspects can impact teamwork in a positive or negative way.

First thing is the viewpoints and attitudes towards healthcare, nurses take the nursing approach, where physician assistant’s take a medical style. (nursingjournal, 2017) “Nurse practitioners (NPs) work in a variety of settings. So do physician assistants (PAs). They can both be found in hospitals and clinics, from rural to urban practices. PAs care for a variety of conditions. So do NPs. They both treat illnesses, provide patient teaching and prescribe medications, often acting as the primary care provider.” (2011, January 09) Both professions are important and are needed to assist in the growing demand on health care. They both have advantages and disadvantages. NP’s are a little freer as in they can practice in their own clinic whereas PA’s need to have a medical doctor
- 2. oversee their work. Nurse practitioners are considered part of the advance practice nursing core, but the difference between APN’s and NP’s is the path of specialty they go towards. NP are often more of a general practitioner, where other APN’s specialize in areas such as mid-wife’s, or anesthesiology. “the clinical nurse specialist (CNS) role was created for the following reasons: (1) to provide direct care to patients with complex diseases or conditions; (2) to improve patient care by developing the clinical skills and judgement of staff nurses; and (3) to retain nurses who are experts in clinical practice.” (Hamric, 2014, p. 359) Many people if they do not feel like there is advancement in their job or profession will quit and move to another job, nursing is no different.
