Individual freedom and independence has become a part of Human Rights. Oppression, in any form, is a violation of the universal values of human
rights. Political consciousness of society also has an increasingly globalized world. Issues and Human Rights enforcement effort no longer be personal
or exclusive but become a common struggle, the struggle of the international world. Many cases of human rights violations that occur in the world,
especially in conflict areas. Not only the military who fought and became the victim, even civilians, women, and children, whose innocent lives among
the casualties. One of them is a violation of human rights by the Chinese against the Tibetan people. Tibet is actually an area that is so beautiful and
many tourists, but the presence of these events makes the beauty of Tibet loss. Areas with low temperatures that just heats up due to the rebellion that
lasted decades.
The event began with the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912, along with that, the 13th Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader, declared independence of
Tibet. However, such freedom does not last long because it was taken by the Chinese Government during Mao Tse Dong 1949. The Chinese military
launched an invasion of Lhasa, capital of Tibet. China's actions did not make Tibet give... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Master Scribes In Tibet
Before the Tibetan alphabet was devised in the 7th century, Tibet began to flourish economically as well as politically. During this time Tibet began to
trade with other areas around Tibet, including China. The first emperor of Tibet, Emperor Srongston, thought it was necessary to construct an alphabet
to increase foreign trade, make legal documents, as well as translate religious texts. So the emperor sent Thomni Sambhota, a Tibetan minister, to India
to study with many master scribes where he learned the local Indic Script, Devanagari as well as other scripts. The master scribes in India thought very
highly of Thomni, as he was known as the noble Tibetan. After Thomni's return from India after becoming a master scribe himself, he then devised

Also, he is seen as a political leader, this role came from the fact that in traditional Tibetan society the religion and politics related to each other so
the one who has the higher religious status usually acts as the head of the Tibetan state and this been the case for the previous dalai lamas as well.
These two rules have been changed after 1950 in order of the Chinese invasion. Also, Dalai Lama had seen as a living Buddha for the Tibetan people.
Living Buddha is a special one, someone with enlightens and has an Inner peace, someone has a special look towards life and things, someone
different from any other human beings. Living Buddha is a reincarnation of His previous predecessors. Dalai Lama had given this special and higher
status in Tibet.
Body paragraph 3:
Chinese views about Dalai Lama are extremely in contrast with others views about him. They saw him in a negative way. In their opinions, Dalai
Lama doesn't deserve this high status in Tibet, he is just a man with no wisdom and with doubled–faced, he hiders the efforts of china with a false

Return To Tibet Summary
Introduction
In Heinrich Harrer's autobiography, his companion Peter Aufschnaiter and he escaped a British internment camp in Karachi, India during the early
50's. They fled to the barren lands of Tibet and trek all the way to Lhasa. Durning their travels they become familiar with the land and its cultures. This
book precedes Harrer's novel Return to Tibet, which was set during the era of Chinese communism and its rule in Tibet.
PLOT
In the beginning of this story, we encounter young Heinrich, whose regiment is taking a pit stop in Karachi, India. Finding the horrors of war to be too
much for him, he escapes with his accomplice Peter Aufschnaiter. The two go through the dense jungle and find themselves at the border of Tibet. By
Bribing the officers, the two cross the border and find themselves in an abandoned village containing only five houses. Finding available sleeping
arrangements difficult, they hide in the bushes and eventually fall asleep.
They start their journey but come to a halt when the air pressure gets too low. Having no choice but to go back. They go to a different Indian
checkpoint disguised as officers in order to get food and provisions. On their way again, the two find themselves lost on the peaks of the Himalayas.
without any directions, Heinrich and Peter used their geographical skills and eventually find the city of Tradun.
The two men were eagerly welcomed since outsiders rarely visit. They were given a house already prepared for them.

Issue of Tibet Essay
Issues of Tibet "The Chinese are practicing cultural genocide in Tibet" (Tofani 3). The quotation said by the Dalai Lama accurately describes what
exactly is going on in Tibet. The issue in Tibet and the so called "cultural genocide" coined by the Dalai Lama can be briefly explained by the specifics
on the problem in Tibet, the causes of the problem which is embedded into Tibet's history of invasion and oppression, and the various solutions and
relief groups dedicated to freeing Tibet. The torture inflicted on the Tibetan people are shown through the examples of torture inflicted on individuals
from Tibet and the ignorance and laws China enforces onto to Tibet which in turn hurts Tibet. In Tibet, there are many instances of torture... Show more

The ignorance that the Chinese have towards Tibet include the lack of recognition for the name of Tibet, the language issue in Tibet, the relocation of
the Chinese people to Tibet, the religious differences and the targeting of religious figures in Tibet by law. The Chinese government doesn't even
recognize the name of Tibet, calling the area Xizang, meaning the western side ("Tibetans Not Seeking `Greater Tibet':Dalai Lama." 1). The Chinese
authorities have forced the teachers to teach Chinese in Tibet where the Tibetan language was once the only language taught (Tofani 3). As described
by Sonam Dolkar, a seamstress, "We are a minority in our own country. We are in our own country speaking a different language. It makes me very
angry. There is no inner peace among Tibetans now" (Tofani 5). Dolkar described the relocation of the Chinese people into Tibet, which literally turned
the Tibetans into a minority in their own country. While Tibet is an intensively religious country, China is primarily an atheist country, making it
harder to the Tibetans to follow the law (Tofani 6). The Chinese intentions in Tibet are revealed through Jamphel Tsering, one of the many who was
tortured by the Chinese. "First they want to eliminate the monks and the nuns because we're politically active. Then they want to grind down the rest
of the population. They're trying to destroy our whole culture and our

Comparison Of Heinrich Harrer And The Dalai Lama
The struggle for independence has been a pervasive theme in many nations histories and continues to be a part of Tibet's make–up. Since the Chinese
invasion of Tibet in 1949, over 6,000 Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and shrines have been destroyed and any mention or reference of the Dalai Lama
has been banned. Heinrich Harrer and the Dalai Lama were great friends, they both taught each other valuable lessons in life. The Dalai Lama
continued to spiritually preside in Tibet by praying and setting an example for all his followers. In 1949, China sent tens of thousands of troops to Tibet
killing, capturing, and torturing thousands of Tibetan people as depicted in the movie. Seven Years in Tibet provides an accurate depiction of the

Harrer's expedition takes him through physical challenges to escape from prison, travel and survive in the Himalayan region. He has to conquer
mental obstacles relating to his failed marriage and son that he has never seen as well as his desire to live or die. After he arrived in Tibet, in the
sacred city of Lhasa, Harrer eventually became friends with the Dalai Lama. Foreigners in Lhasa were rare and Harrer became well known by many.
The Dalai Lama was fascinated by their culture and so he requested a meeting with Harrer, which was the beginning of a unique friendship. The Dalai
Lama asked Harrer to build him a movie theatre. Harrer agreed and from that point on, their relationship grew with Harrer tutoring the Dalai Lama with
knowledge of the world, cultures, and geography. Their relationship developed with Harrer mentoring the Dalai Lama and becoming an advisor and
confidant. During the time that Harrer was in Tibet, China invaded Tibet attempting to gain control of the country. China's attack influenced the Dalai

Tibet's Struggle for Survival in the Modern World: Essay
Steeped in rich traditions, Tibet is a land of rugged, breathtaking beauty and intriguing spirituality. But political repression and population engineering
are radically changing the cultural landscape. Can Tibet's traditions, ethnicity and customs survive in such controversial and precarious times? To what
extent has Tibet been able to maintain its cultural identity? China's and Tibet's long and haggard history reached its dramatic climax in 1949, the start
of China's invasion and illegal annexation of a country they claimed was crying out for В‘liberation' from В‘imperialist forces' and from the
В‘reactionary feudal regime in Lhasa', with ludicrously fabricated justification that it had the right to do so using its own colonial policies, ... Show

However, the role played by monastic orders in the administration of Tibet has been immense, exemplifying Tibetan culture and in doing so linking the
people. Language, religion, history and tradition are all conveyed through the establishments of monasteries. Monasteries are also the drive behind the
Independence movement, right from the beginning of China's occupation to the many revolts that followed, monasteries being the main instigators of
opposition against the Chinese Central Government. Under Article 99 of the Chinese Criminal Law, heavy penalties can be exacted for the use of
"feudal superstition and superstitious sects" to "carry on counter–revolutionary activities". The distinction between superstition and religion is left
unclear, and the ban on superstition can be applied to religious practices. A campaign launched in 1989 to eliminate the "six evils" which include
"using feudal and superstitious beliefs to swindle and harm people", can be used to help arrest religious figures considered to be leading political
dissent. In May 1994, Raidi, a senior Communist leader in Tibet, called on party members to fight harder against pro–independence forces, claiming
that crafty use of religion is creating "witches and warlocks" to spur people into revolt.
Personally indoctrinating and systematically repressing the future of Tibetan culture through the education of its youth, China has claimed that the

America's Assistance to the Tibetans
Starting in the late 1940s, with Cold War tensions running high and the subsequent Communist takeover of China as well as the outbreak of the
Korean War, there was a growing fear in the United States of the possibility of a global conflict between the Communist bloc and the West. Thus, the
US government adopted a policy of doing its best to contain Communism around the world, especially in Asia after the formation of the People's
Republic of China (PRC). When the People's Liberation Army (PLA) invaded Tibet in 1950, the US considered it possible or even probable that the
PRC would use Tibet as a launching pad to expand Communism into the rest of South and Southeast Asia, an early appearance of what... Show more

In keeping with the historic Chinese conviction(never actually formalized) that Tibet was at the very least a vassal state of China, the Nationalist
government took the official stated view that Tibet was an integral part of the Republic of China (Xu 1063). Therefore, we deferred to the
Nationalist point of view when considering Tibet's legal status in the 1940s. The fact that the KMT believed Tibet to be part of China would be a
factor in the US Tibet policy as long as the KMT remained in power in mainland China ( Norbu 264). In fact, if the KMT somehow managed to hold
on to power in China in the Civil War against the Communists, the US would have declined to support Tibetan independence. However, by 1948 the
KMT's defeat was imminent and the US Ambassador in India recognized the possibility that if the "Communists succeed in controlling all of China...we
should be prepared to treat Tibet as independent to all intents and purposes" (Knaus 55). At this early stage, even with such statements bringing up the
issue of recognizing Tibetan independence, the US continued to make an effort to avoid alienating Chiang Kai–shek and the KMT (Roberts 2).
By early 1949, Mao's Communist forces had gained full control and formed the PRC. Its stated goals included returning Tibet, Xinjiang, and Mongolia

The Dalai Lama: An Influential Icon Essay
Since the late 1300's essentially the same reincarnated figure has been controlling, teaching, and leading the Tibetan Buddhism religion and
government (Gale). The Dalai Lama is thought to be the reincarnated spiritual and political icon presiding over the land of Tibet for over 14
lifetimes. His Holiness' obligation to the Buddhist people and birthright is described as, "a teacher whose wisdom is as deep as the ocean" (Ganeri
28). For centuries the Dalai Lama has been one of the world's most influential leaders and teachers, passing along his wisdoms to disciples all over
the globe. The origins of the Dalai Lama date back to the start of the Gelukpa School, a monastery opened near Lhasa in Tibet by a man named

This process is long and rigorous, until they find the boy they are looking for they keep searching. The monks will go door–to–door looking for
children born the day the Dalai Lama died; they then use certain tests to determine if the child is indeed the Dalai Lama (Chiu). "Tibetans believe
the Dalai Lama is the bodhisattva; Avalokiteshvara, in human form". Once the monks finally find the Dalai Lama as a young boy, they take him to
Lhasa (Ganeri 28) to train him in his duties (Wangu 67). In Tibet, Lama means "superior one", the Panchen Lama is "the 2nd highest religious
figure in Tibetan Buddhism". While the search is still being commenced for the Dalai Lama, the Panchen Lama takes the Dalai Lama's place
temporarily. The Panchen Lama is a younger Lama who is chosen by the Dalai Lama during his lifespan (Wangu 115). The structure of the Lamas in
Lamaism goes as follows: Dalai Lama, Panchen Lama, high monks, lower monks, and then Tibetan Buddhism followers (Chiu). All of these Lamas
lead and follow the group of the Gelupka or yellow hats (Ganeri 30). Both the Dalai and Panchen Lamas are reincarnations of specific people. Every
Dalai Lama since Avalokitesvara has been a reincarnation of the Buddha of compassion and every Panchen Lama since Amitabha has been a
reincarnation of the Buddha of light (Chiu). In 1949, China,

Dharamsala, India, known as "Little Lhasa," the seat of the Tibetan Government–in–exile.
In the early years of exile, His Holiness appealed to the United Nations on the question of Tibet, resulting in three resolutions adopted by the General
Assembly in 1959, 1961, and 1965, calling on China to respect the human rights of Tibetans and their desire for self–determination. With the newly
constituted Tibetan Government–in–exile, His Holiness saw that his immediate and urgent task was to save the both the Tibetan exiles and their culture
alike. Tibetan refugees were rehabilitated in agricultural settlements. Economic development was promoted and the creation of a Tibetan educational
system was established to raise refugee children with full knowledge of their language, history, religion and culture. The Tibetan Institute of Performing
Arts was established in 1959, while the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies became a university for Tibetans in India. Over 200 monasteries
have been re–established to preserve the vast corpus of Tibetan Buddhist teachings, the essence of the Tibetan way of life.
In 1963, His Holiness promulgated a democratic constitution, based on Buddhist principles and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a model

The Last Dalai Lama?
The twentieth century is rife with examples of countries being torn apart or experiencing great upheaval. Multi–ethnic Yugoslavia broke apart into
several nation states with loose foundations. The Soviet Union collapsed, transforming the area into the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Germany split in half as a result of World War II and then reunited over forty years later. One country that has experienced tremendous crisis and
upheaval on a scale even greater than these European nations, yet often goes unnoticed, is Tibet. Tibet enjoyed peace and autonomy until 1949 when
Chinese Communists invaded the country under the guise of the "Peaceful Liberation." Coveting Tibet's vast natural resources and strategic ... Show

The Dalai Lama's political dealings with Communist China and his rule of the exile community exemplify the changed role of the institution of the
Dalai Lama.
Before assessing the pivotal role of the fourteenth Dalai Lama in the twentieth century, it is important to examine the traditional role of the Dalai
Lama in Tibet. The official religion of Tibet is Buddhism, a major tenet of which is reincarnation. Each Dalai Lama is considered to be an
incarnation of Chenrezig, who was the patron deity of Tibet, and an enlightened Buddha of compassion. Up until 1950 the Dalai Lama was the
supreme religious authority of Tibet. Isolated from most of society, he had a deep sense of mystery about him. Gedun Truppa was the first Dalai
Lama, and he lived from 1391 to 1475. He studied at several monastic colleges, and was a teacher, a prolific writer, and a builder of monasteries. It is
interesting to point out that he was posthumously declared as the first Dalai Lama. Perhaps at that point in history the need for a central religious
force necessitated the institution of the Dalai Lama. The second Dalai Lama, Gendun Gyatso, was a monk and an abbot of two monasteries. He was
given a suite of buildings in Lhasa from the king, so probably from this point on the residence of the Dalai Lama became situated in the city of Lhasa.
The third Dalai Lama, Sonam Gyatso, converted Mongolia to the Buddhist religion, and the fourth

When operating freely the Tibetan government was almost entirely based on religious matters. There existed a hierarchy of lamas, similar to that of the
hierarchy of priests in the Roman Catholic Church. "In the theocratic society of Tibet, as we have seen, the lamas constituted the predominant class not
only concerned with their ecclesiastical duties but also participating in trade and sharing in the work of government, civilian, and military as well."
(Moraes: 1960: 94) The highest–ranking official was the Dalai Lama, followed by the Panchan Lama. These two positions are very similar to the
offices of President and Vice President in the United States government. Under the Dalai Lama, a cabinet of four ministers comprised of three laymen
and one monk official attend to the needs of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government as a whole. Aside from these six positions, the Tibetan
government has a series of laymen and monks dedicated to matters such as finances and the military. While there is a large hierarchy of government
officials, important decisions are primary made by the Dalai Lama and his cabinet of four ministers.
The interesting thing about this style of governing is the way in which religion and politics fit hand and hand. There is very little separation between

617 Songtsen Gampo, "he who is powerful, just and profound", ascended to the throne as the 32nd king of Tibet. He expanded and united the Tibetan
territories so that it became a real empire. He conquered Nepal, part of Burma and the Northern part of India. He also embraced Buddhism and
enhanced the proliferation of literacy.5 He also moved the capital to Lhasa. In 634 Gampo defeated Chinese army and he demanded for a bride as a
sign of honor from the Chinese emperor, who at this time was Tai Tsung. The emperor at first refused to give the princess, but after another
successful military campaign by Tibetan army he had no choice but to agree.6 The bride arrived to Lhasa in 641. In fact, she was not a Chinese
princess. At best she was a stepdaughter of the emperor or just a random girl.7 However, Songtsen Gampo and the Chinese bride got married and now
the Chinese take this marriage as an act of Chinese and Tibetan union. Sun Wade of course too supports this theory by confirming: "In historical
aspects Tibet has been a part of China since the Tang dynasty (617–907)".8 The next moot point in the tussle over Tibet comes from the

Tibetan Government in Exile Essay
Tibetan Government in Exile
The Tibetan government–in–exile functions both adequately and admirably in the role of supporting Tibetans both in exile and in Tibet. While Chinese
explanations for considering Tibet a part of China are most often reasonable, they tend not to reflect the nature of the relationship between the two
countries accurately. In fact, the same can be said of the Tibetan government–in–exile regarding reasons Tibet is not a part of China. The
government–in–exile has acted reasonably well in its attempts to regain Tibet, proceeding in negotiations with China and advocating its cause
throughout the world while maintaining a non–violent approach. However, if the government–in–exile wishes to accurately portray the ... Show more

In Tibetan Nation, Warren Smith says "whatever their original connections–and these will probably remain unknown– the Chinese and Tibetans have
differentiated to an extent that they formed two distinctly different ethnic groups from a relatively early time."[2]
Complete detailed history of Tibet really begins in the seventh century with the rise of the king Songsten Gampo. Before him, Tibetan was a spoken but
not written language, Tibet was not a unified state with a code of law, and the Bon religion was predominant over Buddhism[3]. The time around his
reign is also when Tibet and China started an antagonistic and often warlike relationship with each other. This relationship lasted until the Mongols
subdued Tibet under Ghengis Khan and then conquered China under Kublai Khan in the thirteenth century and was resumed in earnest after the fall of
the Mongol empire.[4]
The Chinese argue that Tibet became a part of China under Mongol rule. However, the Mongols included Tibet as well as China in its rule of
conquered territories but did not seem to consider it a Chinese province. The Mongols respected religious practices in their territories in general and
were particularly taken with religion in Tibet. In fact, Smith says, "Tibet was allowed...a great degree of autonomy due to the influence of Tibetan
lamas...at the Mongol court."[5] I see no reason to indicate that the Mongolian rule administered over both

Summary Of Seven Years In Tibet
Ann Braun RS 390 Movie Review ( Seven Years in Tibet) November 20, 2017 For this student of Buddhism, the movie Seven Years in Tibet was a
historically correct, religiously sound, and moving depiction of the beauty and power of this eastern non–monotheistic faith. Furthermore, the grand
biography of the Austrian climber Heinrich Harrier, not only illustrated the supernatural aspects of the faith, but also its folkloric magic. Additionally, it
tackled the political struggles, both externally and parochially, that embroiled the country in the aftermath of World War II. Moreover, so poignant
were these struggles that the Chinese government banned both the lead actor and the producer from ever visiting China. Lastly, the main theme of the
movie, was one of purification and redemption in the tale of how an egotistical mountain climber evolved when exposed to this compassionate and
generous culture. Jean Jacque Annaud sets most of this epic film in the pilgrimage city of Lhasa, were the young Dalai Lama resides( Strong 264). Here
the story illustrates the many oddities of Tibetan Buddhism such as the magic rituals that are both part of both Buddhism and earlier folk beliefs. For
instance, the Tibetans are most afraid of foreigners, and the movie shows the people using Tantras ( magic), and making hand gestures or mudras to
drive away evil (Robinson 123–124). For example, travelers sticking their tongues out when meeting strangers, a ritual for which neither the text nor
the film offered any explanation. Just as interesting is the sounds that transport the viewer into the setting, with hand clapping and bells, both rituals for
keeping evil away( Robinson 124). Moreover, the most powerful use of tantra magic is a scene where the monks have created a large mandala or power
circle, in hopes of affecting a peaceful solution to the conflict with the communist Chinese government. When the Chinese generals stride through the
meticulously created chalk masterpiece, destroying the work as they go, the audience understands that both Tibet and Buddhism are doomed. Another
example of the supernatural is the Dalai Lamas' prophetic powers, as the thirteenth predicts that foreigners will overrun Tibet, and the

This film is based on the book by Heinrich Harrer, an Austrian Olympic gold medalist and mountain climber (played by Brad Pitt). The film was
directed by Jean–Jacques Annaud in some of the most beautiful countryside I've seen. (Okay, that's it with the comments on the scenery.)
Heinrich "Harry" Harrer leaves Austria just prior to World War II, in 1939, to climb Nanga Parbat, the ninth highest mountain. Along with Harry, Peter
Aufschnaiter (David Thewlis) travels to Nanga Parbat for the climb. Upon descent from the failed attempt, the group is taken prisoner by the British

The Dalai Lamas are the manifestations of the Buddha of Compassion who chose to take rebirth for the purpose of serving other human beings. The
Dalai Lama was renamed upon recognition, and was called Ku Dun in the movie (actually, it is Kundun, meaning The Presence). However, most
Tibetans refer to him as His Holiness.
While in Lahsa, Harry and Ku Dun become friends and Harry teaches His Holiness numerous things of the "world." However, what is apparent is that
the Dali Lama, and Harry's trials and travels, have taught Harry a spirituality that was severely lacking in Harry at the start of the film.
As Harry is finding himself, his enlightenment and liberation, the communist Chinese are spreading and threaten to invade Tibet. The communist
Chinese brutalize and slaughter the Tibetans, and according to the film, the Tibetans are basically betrayed by their "Governor" Ngawang Jigme (B.D.
Wong) who surrenders Tibet to the Chinese.
In 1950, at the age of 16, the Dali Lama assumed full political power of Tibet, and following the enthronement, Harry leaves Tibet to return to Austria
to seek out his son who was born while Harry was attempting to climb Nanga Parbat.
The film ends with Harry teaching his son to climb. The Dali Lama was exiled from Tibet and resides in India where to this day he is still attempting
to reach a amicable resolution with China.

Desire is known as the human craving for sensual pleasure, fear of physical death, and avoidance of unpleasant situations. Buddhist's ultimate goal
is to remove the suffering by letting go greed and desire. Many followers of Buddhism refrain from grieving at a funeral, weeping the loss of a job,

Essay on Film Analysis: Into the Wild
Many live attempting to decipher the riddle of life. What is life? What is the purpose? What makes? Even though we only seek happiness why
can't we ever seem to achieve it? When we do reach happiness why can't we seem to grasp it and hold it for more than the few short hours that pass
like seconds? The question we must answer first is "What makes happiness, true?" In the film "Into the Wild" it shows Chris, a young adult, trying to
make his way to Alaska. His beliefs in freedom and isolation from the modern world would drive him to go to Alaska in hope that he finds the so
simple goal, happiness. He struggle sand faces obstacles that hinder him to his destination. Odd people, intelligent people, elderly people, young

But what is the answer to the question of "What makes happiness true?" In the poem, "Happiness Is Not Comforts" by Dr. John Celes, it states
"Happiness is in making and seeing the less fortunate ones, smile." This can tell us that happiness isn't just about personal desire but also about
others around you. Happiness is nothing when everyone is sad around you. This poem also shows how sharing with others gives the feeling. The
same characteristic are explained in all three pieces described. This poem answers the question by explaining that happiness is caused not by what
you surround yourself by who you surround yourself with. It attempts to tell us that comforts are just empty feelings that fade quickly. But things like
giving to others, showing love and compassion towards other, and going out of your way to do little things for someone is what gives a full
happiness. The other poem that helps answer the question of what makes happiness real is in the poem "Happiness" by Juan OIivarez. The poem
literally states that not being alone made him feel and experience true happiness. This list the things that makes him feel happy and it just the little
simple things such as walking in the rain, going home and seeing family that he hasn't seen in a long time. This piece answer the question by
suggesting that little things and being with people that love you and want to be with you is what makes happiness true.

Violence Towards Women in Tibet Essay
Violence Towards Women in Tibet
Introduction:
Due to gender discrimination, there is more violence against Tibetan women than men by the People's Republic of China (PRC). Unconsented and
forceful acts of violence have been committed against Tibetan women, specifically targeted at Buddhist nuns, since the Chinese invasion of Tibet in
1950. While Tibetan women non–violently protest the Chinese government, they are physically, emotionally, and sexually abused by troops and within
prisons. The human rights of these women have been completely disregarded.

Among poor people, polyandry was very common. Brothers would share a wife so they would not have to divide their land and wealth. In this
manner, they could keep the money and possessions they owned within the family. On the contrary, within some poor families, sisters would share one
husband. Although polygamy and polyandry are legal within Tibet and may be prevalent in poor areas, the practice has been reduced. Among rich
families, monogamy is much more common. Marriages in Tibet are usually arranged. Usually, parents arranged their child's marriage, but in a few
cases, the young girl may pick her husband, with the consent of her parents.
In addition, women "command a great deal of respect as well as enjoy a great deal of freedom in the family" (Majupuria, 88). Due to religious ideals,
instilled in Tibetans starting at a very young age, women are greatly respected throughout the society. Socially, economically, and politically, women are
very active. In the home, men and women are equal partners. Politically, women and men can hold the same positions, and although a woman has
never been the Dalai Lama, the possibility exists.
Although women have equal power legally, many women pray that in their next life they will be born as a man. Life as a woman is not easy in Tibet.

Religions Around the World
Numerous people, all around the world, participate in at least one kind of religion which has a great chance that monasticism is a possible piece
that makes up the religion. These religions vary from place to place and from person to person. Like religion itself, monasticism varies from religion
to religion and from place to place. The variation that often occurs in the monastic aspect of the religion is in the small aspects of the monastic life
instead of a large overall difference. Small aspects include things such as the part that monasticism plays can range from small with very few men to
large with many men taking vows and becoming monks. This weighs more heavily than an overall difference would in monasticism. An example of
two religions' monastic piece being different because of small aspects is Tibetan Buddhist and Roman Catholics. Although monasticism is a part of both
Tibetan Buddhism and Roman Catholicism, certain aspects are different between the two religions. One of the ways that Tibetan monks and Roman
Catholic monks vary is their origins. Buddhism was introduced in the seventeenth century to Tibet from the places of China, India, and Central Asia.
Tibetan Buddhists see themselves as an inheritance from Indian Buddhists, who were the main influence in the beginnings of the spread of Buddhism
in Tibet. The school of Buddhism popular in China, India, and Central Asia is the school of Mahayana, which deals heavily with agricultural trade for

An Analysis Of Tibet's Governmental System and the Dalai Lama as Head of State
Throughout history, society has created many different governmental systems in order to organize society in terms of law and authority. Many have
failed in their purpose but others have remained steadfast in their goals and have prospered. To fundamentally understand why this pattern occurs, we
must understand the true function and purpose of government. Government serves two functions. Internally, government should serve the function as the
ultimate enforcer of norms, the final arbitration of conflicting interests, and control the overall planning and direction of society. Externally,
government should serve the function as the handler of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An assumption is that the populace is unlawful and henceforth credulous to a high degree.[2] A second assumption is that if there is no distinction and
discrimination between priestly status and lay people, the system is not credible and has no legs to stand on. Tibet is a perfect example of this
medieval type of society. Other examples that closely resemble the Tibetan political structure occurred during the Catholicism of feudal Europe, the
Inca regime of Peru, and Brahminism of India. Therefore, the integration of Buddhism into Tibet's government and the formation of the institution of
the Dalai Lama as head of state have not only demonstrated to be one of the leading models of political system in the world but negatively made the
country vulnerable to military attack.
To better understand why an autocratic theocracy was the right governmental system for Tibet, we must look at how Buddhism came to Tibet.
Buddhism entered Tibet in the fifth century but did not become a force until the seventh century under King Song–tsem–Gampo. King
Song–tsem–Gampo had two wives who were Buddhist and they became a very influential force by inspiring him to spread Buddhism throughout Tibet.
His accomplishments include establishing Lhasa in 639 A.D. and erecting hundreds of temples. From the period between King Song–tsem–Gampo's

Normality And Cultural Norms
Cultural normalities influence people's everyday lives, even in smallest ways. The sheer presence of a norm proceeds to have the ability to shift
people's thoughts and actions both in public and within their own households. In TIbet, religion and tensions with China help to formulate behavior and
patriotism within the population that considers themselves "Tibetan". Both patriotism and religion arise in a range of texts including books, poems,
articles, and journals. Heinrich Harrer (1997) perfectly utilizes cultural norms in his autobiographical book Seven Years inTibet to describe his
experiences with the locals, including the Dalai Lama during 1944 and 1951. The interval of time in which Harrer visits was during the Second World
War, the period before the Communist Chinese People's Liberation Army invaded Tibet. Throughout the novel culture norms are discovered, and better
understood to later feelings and actions around the Tibetan people. One important component of Tibetan culture is their religion, which is mainly a
branch of Buddhism, known as Tibetan Buddhism. Buddhism is a very interesting culture rich in traditions and faith. It has acquired many deep
philosophies and teachings, mostly from the highly enlightened monks of Tibetan Buddhism. In Buddhism the purpose of meditation is to help
alleviate stress and freeze the mind from thinking in an aimless manner, instead allowing the mind to relax into a calm and open train of thought. As

Heart Murmur Research Paper
Your new puppy has been active and playful, and gazing into his eyes makes your heart melt. Now, his first checkup has the veterinarian taking an
intense and lengthy listen to your puppy's heart. The doctor concludes this auscultation with the pronouncement that your puppy has a heart murmur.
Before you feel your own heart sink with dread, it is important to understand how common, and often harmless, a puppy's heart murmur is. (Reference

/Diagnosis.aspx The Whoosh of a Murmur A heart murmur is an abnormal heart sound. Instead of the normal "lub–dub" sound of each heartbeat, a
veterinarian will hear a whooshing sound in between the "lub" and the "dub." This whooshing sound is the murmur, and it is caused by turbulent blood
flow through the heart. In some cases, a murmur indicates an anatomical defect in the valves or chambers in the heart. If a valve does not open or close

This is simply a result of your puppy growing so quickly and his heart increasing the blood flow to accommodate. (Reference 4) These murmurs usually
appear around the age of six to eight weeks, (Reference 3) and they disappear between four and six months of age. (Reference 2) These benign murmurs
are understandably concerning for new puppy owners. More often than not, they soon vanish without incident. Your veterinarian will listen closely each
time your puppy returns for a vaccination booster. The Merck Veterinary Manuals: Diagnosis of Heart Disease http://www.merckmanuals.com/vet

The ignorance that the Chinese have towards Tibet include the lack of recognition for the name of Tibet, the language issue in Tibet, the relocation of the Chinese people to Tibet, the religious differences and the targeting of religious figures in Tibet by law. The Chinese government doesn't even recognize the name of Tibet, calling the area Xizang, meaning the western side ("Tibetans Not Seeking `Greater Tibet':Dalai Lama." 1). The Chinese authorities have forced the teachers to teach Chinese in Tibet where the Tibetan language was once the only language taught (Tofani 3). As described by Sonam Dolkar, a seamstress, "We are a minority in our own country. We are in our own country speaking a different language. It makes me very angry. There is no inner peace among Tibetans now" (Tofani 5). Dolkar described the relocation of the Chinese people into Tibet, which literally turned the Tibetans into a minority in their own country. While Tibet is an intensively religious country, China is primarily an atheist country, making it harder to the Tibetans to follow the law (Tofani 6). The Chinese intentions in Tibet are revealed through Jamphel Tsering, one of the many who was tortured by the Chinese. But political repression and population engineering are radically changing the cultural landscape. Can Tibet's traditions, ethnicity and customs survive in such controversial and precarious times? To what extent has Tibet been able to maintain its cultural identity? China's and Tibet's long and haggard history reached its dramatic climax in 1949, the start of China's invasion and illegal annexation of a country they claimed was crying out for В‘liberation' from В‘imperialist forces' and from the В‘reactionary feudal regime in Lhasa', with ludicrously fabricated justification that it had the right to do so using its own colonial policies, ... Language, religion, history and tradition are all conveyed through the establishments of monasteries. Monasteries are also the drive behind the Independence movement, right from the beginning of China's occupation to the many revolts that followed, monasteries being the main instigators of opposition against the Chinese Central Government. Under Article 99 of the Chinese Criminal Law, heavy penalties can be exacted for the use of "feudal superstition and superstitious sects" to "carry on counter–revolutionary activities". The distinction between superstition and religion is left unclear, and the ban on superstition can be applied to religious practices. A campaign launched in 1989 to eliminate the "six evils" which include "using feudal and superstitious beliefs to swindle and harm people", can be used to help arrest religious figures considered to be leading political dissent. In May 1994, Raidi, a senior Communist leader in Tibet, called on party members to fight harder against pro–independence forces, claiming that crafty use of religion is creating "witches and warlocks" to spur people into revolt. America’s Assistance to the Tibetans Essay America's Assistance to the Tibetans Starting in the late 1940s, with Cold War tensions running high and the subsequent Communist takeover of China as well as the outbreak of the Korean War, there was a growing fear in the United States of the possibility of a global conflict between the Communist bloc and the West. Thus, the US government adopted a policy of doing its best to contain Communism around the world, especially in Asia after the formation of the People's Republic of China (PRC). When the People's Liberation Army (PLA) invaded Tibet in 1950, the US considered it possible or even probable that the PRC would use Tibet as a launching pad to expand Communism into the rest of South and Southeast Asia, an early appearance of what... In keeping with the historic Chinese conviction(never actually formalized) that Tibet was at the very least a vassal state of China, the Nationalist government took the official stated view that Tibet was an integral part of the Republic of China (Xu 1063). Therefore, we deferred to the Nationalist point of view when considering Tibet's legal status in the 1940s. The fact that the KMT believed Tibet to be part of China would be a factor in the US Tibet policy as long as the KMT remained in power in mainland China ( Norbu 264). In fact, if the KMT somehow managed to hold on to power in China in the Civil War against the Communists, the US would have declined to support Tibetan independence. However, by 1948 the KMT's defeat was imminent and the US Ambassador in India recognized the possibility that if the "Communists succeed in controlling all of China...we should be prepared to treat Tibet as independent to all intents and purposes" (Knaus 55). At this early stage, even with such statements bringing up the issue of recognizing Tibetan independence, the US continued to make an effort to avoid alienating Chiang Kai–shek and the KMT (Roberts 2). The Dalai Lama: An Influential Icon Essay Since the late 1300's essentially the same reincarnated figure has been controlling, teaching, and leading the Tibetan Buddhism religion and government (Gale). The Dalai Lama is thought to be the reincarnated spiritual and political icon presiding over the land of Tibet for over 14 lifetimes. His Holiness' obligation to the Buddhist people and birthright is described as, "a teacher whose wisdom is as deep as the ocean" (Ganeri 28). For centuries the Dalai Lama has been one of the world's most influential leaders and teachers, passing along his wisdoms to disciples all over the globe. "Tibetans believe the Dalai Lama is the bodhisattva; Avalokiteshvara, in human form". Once the monks finally find the Dalai Lama as a young boy, they take him to Lhasa (Ganeri 28) to train him in his duties (Wangu 67). In Tibet, Lama means "superior one", the Panchen Lama is "the 2nd highest religious figure in Tibetan Buddhism". The Panchen Lama is a younger Lama who is chosen by the Dalai Lama during his lifespan (Wangu 115). All of these Lamas lead and follow the group of the Gelupka or yellow hats (Ganeri 30). Both the Dalai and Panchen Lamas are reincarnations of specific people. One country that has experienced tremendous crisis and upheaval on a scale even greater than these European nations, yet often goes unnoticed, is Tibet. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Dalai Lama's political dealings with Communist China and his rule of the exile community exemplify the changed role of the institution of the Dalai Lama. Before assessing the pivotal role of the fourteenth Dalai Lama in the twentieth century, it is important to examine the traditional role of the Dalai Lama in Tibet. The official religion of Tibet is Buddhism, a major tenet of which is reincarnation. Each Dalai Lama is considered to be an incarnation of Chenrezig, who was the patron deity of Tibet, and an enlightened Buddha of compassion. Up until 1950 the Dalai Lama was the supreme religious authority of Tibet. Isolated from most of society, he had a deep sense of mystery about him. Gedun Truppa was the first Dalai Lama, and he lived from 1391 to 1475. He studied at several monastic colleges, and was a teacher, a prolific writer, and a builder of monasteries. It is interesting to point out that he was posthumously declared as the first Dalai Lama. Perhaps at that point in history the need for a central religious force necessitated the institution of the Dalai Lama. The second Dalai Lama, Gendun Gyatso, was a monk and an abbot of two monasteries. He was given a suite of buildings in Lhasa from the king, so probably from this point on the residence of the Dalai Lama became situated in the city of Lhasa. In Tibetan Nation, Warren Smith says "whatever their original connections–and these will probably remain unknown– the Chinese and Tibetans have differentiated to an extent that they formed two distinctly different ethnic groups from a relatively early time."[2] Complete detailed history of Tibet really begins in the seventh century with the rise of the king Songsten Gampo. Before him, Tibetan was a spoken but not written language, Tibet was not a unified state with a code of law, and the Bon religion was predominant over Buddhism[3]. The time around his reign is also when Tibet and China started an antagonistic and often warlike relationship with each other. This relationship lasted until the Mongols subdued Tibet under Ghengis Khan and then conquered China under Kublai Khan in the thirteenth century and was resumed in earnest after the fall of the Mongol empire.[4] The Chinese argue that Tibet became a part of China under Mongol rule. However, the Mongols included Tibet as well as China in its rule of conquered territories but did not seem to consider it a Chinese province. The Mongols respected religious practices in their territories in general and were particularly taken with religion in Tibet. Summary Of Seven Years In Tibet Ann Braun RS 390 Movie Review ( Seven Years in Tibet) November 20, 2017 For this student of Buddhism, the movie Seven Years in Tibet was a historically correct, religiously sound, and moving depiction of the beauty and power of this eastern non–monotheistic faith. Furthermore, the grand biography of the Austrian climber Heinrich Harrier, not only illustrated the supernatural aspects of the faith, but also its folkloric magic. Additionally, it tackled the political struggles, both externally and parochially, that embroiled the country in the aftermath of World War II. Moreover, so poignant were these struggles that the Chinese government banned both the lead actor and the producer from ever visiting China. Lastly, the main theme of the movie, was one of purification and redemption in the tale of how an egotistical mountain climber evolved when exposed to this compassionate and generous culture. Jean Jacque Annaud sets most of this epic film in the pilgrimage city of Lhasa, were the young Dalai Lama resides( Strong 264). Here the story illustrates the many oddities of Tibetan Buddhism such as the magic rituals that are both part of both Buddhism and earlier folk beliefs. For instance, the Tibetans are most afraid of foreigners, and the movie shows the people using Tantras ( magic), and making hand gestures or mudras to drive away evil (Robinson 123–124). For example, travelers sticking their tongues out when meeting strangers, a ritual for which neither the text nor the film offered any explanation. Just as interesting is the sounds that transport the viewer into the setting, with hand clapping and bells, both rituals for keeping evil away( Robinson 124). Moreover, the most powerful use of tantra magic is a scene where the monks have created a large mandala or power circle, in hopes of affecting a peaceful solution to the conflict with the communist Chinese government. When the Chinese generals stride through the meticulously created chalk masterpiece, destroying the work as they go, the audience understands that both Tibet and Buddhism are doomed. Another example of the supernatural is the Dalai Lamas' prophetic powers, as the thirteenth predicts that foreigners will overrun Tibet, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though we only seek happiness why can't we ever seem to achieve it? When we do reach happiness why can't we seem to grasp it and hold it for more than the few short hours that pass like seconds? The question we must answer first is "What makes happiness, true?" In the film "Into the Wild" it shows Chris, a young adult, trying to make his way to Alaska. His beliefs in freedom and isolation from the modern world would drive him to go to Alaska in hope that he finds the so simple goal, happiness. He struggle sand faces obstacles that hinder him to his destination. Odd people, intelligent people, elderly people, young people; he met all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But what is the answer to the question of "What makes happiness true?" In the poem, "Happiness Is Not Comforts" by Dr. John Celes, it states "Happiness is in making and seeing the less fortunate ones, smile." This can tell us that happiness isn't just about personal desire but also about others around you. Happiness is nothing when everyone is sad around you. This poem also shows how sharing with others gives the feeling. The same characteristic are explained in all three pieces described. This poem answers the question by explaining that happiness is caused not by what you surround yourself by who you surround yourself with. It attempts to tell us that comforts are just empty feelings that fade quickly. But things like giving to others, showing love and compassion towards other, and going out of your way to do little things for someone is what gives a full happiness. The other poem that helps answer the question of what makes happiness real is in the poem "Happiness" by Juan OIivarez. The poem literally states that not being alone made him feel and experience true happiness. This list the things that makes him feel happy and it just the little simple things such as walking in the rain, going home and seeing family that he hasn't seen in a long time. This piece answer the question by suggesting that little things and being with people that love you and want to be with you is what makes happiness true. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Violence Towards Women in Tibet Essay Violence Towards Women in Tibet Introduction: Due to gender discrimination, there is more violence against Tibetan women than men by the People's Republic of China (PRC). Unconsented and forceful acts of violence have been committed against Tibetan women, specifically targeted at Buddhist nuns, since the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950. While Tibetan women non–violently protest the Chinese government, they are physically, emotionally, and sexually abused by troops and within prisons. The human rights of these women have been completely disregarded. History of Women in Tibet: Tibetan women essentially had equal rights with men in their country. They had the privilege of many civil liberties that women of other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among poor people, polyandry was very common. Brothers would share a wife so they would not have to divide their land and wealth. In this manner, they could keep the money and possessions they owned within the family. On the contrary, within some poor families, sisters would share one husband. Although polygamy and polyandry are legal within Tibet and may be prevalent in poor areas, the practice has been reduced. Among rich families, monogamy is much more common. Marriages in Tibet are usually arranged. Usually, parents arranged their child's marriage, but in a few cases, the young girl may pick her husband, with the consent of her parents. In addition, women "command a great deal of respect as well as enjoy a great deal of freedom in the family" (Majupuria, 88). Due to religious ideals, instilled in Tibetans starting at a very young age, women are greatly respected throughout the society. Socially, economically, and politically, women are very active. In the home, men and women are equal partners. Politically, women and men can hold the same positions, and although a woman has never been the Dalai Lama, the possibility exists. Although women have equal power legally, many women pray that in their next life they will be born as a man. Life as a woman is not easy in Tibet. When a baby girl is born into a family, the parents are not as happy as when a baby boy is born. Girls must begin laboring at an earlier age

Religions Around the World Numerous people, all around the world, participate in at least one kind of religion which has a great chance that monasticism is a possible piece that makes up the religion. These religions vary from place to place and from person to person. Like religion itself, monasticism varies from religion to religion and from place to place. The variation that often occurs in the monastic aspect of the religion is in the small aspects of the monastic life instead of a large overall difference. Small aspects include things such as the part that monasticism plays can range from small with very few men to large with many men taking vows and becoming monks. This weighs more heavily than an overall difference would in monasticism. An example of two religions' monastic piece being different because of small aspects is Tibetan Buddhist and Roman Catholics. Although monasticism is a part of both Tibetan Buddhism and Roman Catholicism, certain aspects are different between the two religions. One of the ways that Tibetan monks and Roman Catholic monks vary is their origins. Buddhism was introduced in the seventeenth century to Tibet from the places of China, India, and Central Asia. Tibetan Buddhists see themselves as an inheritance from Indian Buddhists, who were the main influence in the beginnings of the spread of Buddhism in Tibet. The school of Buddhism popular in China, India, and Central Asia is the school of Mahayana, which deals heavily with agricultural trade for their work. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Analysis Of Tibet's Governmental System and the Dalai Lama as Head of State Throughout history, society has created many different governmental systems in order to organize society in terms of law and authority. Many have failed in their purpose but others have remained steadfast in their goals and have prospered. To fundamentally understand why this pattern occurs, we must understand the true function and purpose of government. Government serves two functions. Internally, government should serve the function as the ultimate enforcer of norms, the final arbitration of conflicting interests, and control the overall planning and direction of society. Externally, government should serve the function as the handler of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An assumption is that the populace is unlawful and henceforth credulous to a high degree.[2] A second assumption is that if there is no distinction and discrimination between priestly status and lay people, the system is not credible and has no legs to stand on. Tibet is a perfect example of this medieval type of society. Other examples that closely resemble the Tibetan political structure occurred during the Catholicism of feudal Europe, the Inca regime of Peru, and Brahminism of India. Therefore, the integration of Buddhism into Tibet's government and the formation of the institution of the Dalai Lama as head of state have not only demonstrated to be one of the leading models of political system in the world but negatively made the country vulnerable to military attack. To better understand why an autocratic theocracy was the right governmental system for Tibet, we must look at how Buddhism came to Tibet. Buddhism entered Tibet in the fifth century but did not become a force until the seventh century under King Song–tsem–Gampo. King Song–tsem–Gampo had two wives who were Buddhist and they became a very influential force by inspiring him to spread Buddhism throughout Tibet. His accomplishments include establishing Lhasa in 639 A.D. and erecting hundreds of temples. From the period between King Song–tsem–Gampo's rule and the thirteen century, there was no centralized ... The sheer presence of a norm proceeds to have the ability to shift people's thoughts and actions both in public and within their own households. In TIbet, religion and tensions with China help to formulate behavior and patriotism within the population that considers themselves "Tibetan". Both patriotism and religion arise in a range of texts including books, poems, articles, and journals. Heinrich Harrer (1997) perfectly utilizes cultural norms in his autobiographical book Seven Years inTibet to describe his experiences with the locals, including the Dalai Lama during 1944 and 1951. The interval of time in which Harrer visits was during the Second World War, the period before the Communist Chinese People's Liberation Army invaded Tibet. Throughout the novel culture norms are discovered, and better understood to later feelings and actions around the Tibetan people.
