18. What is Senior High School?
Senior High School (SHS) covers the last two
years of the K to 12 program and includes
Grades 11 and 12. In SHS, students will go
through a core curriculum and subjects under
a track of their choice.
19. Will SHS mean two more years of
High School?
These two additional years will equip learners with skills that will
better prepare them for the future, whether it be:
• Employment
• Entrepreneurship
• Skills Development (Further Tech-Voc training)
• Higher Education (College)
HS, students will go through a core curriculum and subjects
under a track of their choice.
20. Senior High School covers eight (8) learning areas
as part of its core curriculum, and adds specific
tracks (similar to college courses) based on four
(4) disciplines:
• Academic (which includes Business, Science &
Engineering, Humanities & Social Science, and a
General Academic strand)
• Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (with highly
specialized subjects with TESDA qualifications)
• Sports
• Arts & Design
21. SHS subjects

•Learners from Grades 1 to
12 are graded on:
Written Work
Performance Tasks
Quarterly Assessment
What is the Grading System?
23. • Grades from all student work are added up.
This results in the total score for each
component, namely Written Work, Performance
Tasks, and Quarterly Assessment.
• Raw Scores from each component have to be
converted to a Percentage Score. This is to
ensure that values are parallel to each other.
Steps in computing the Final Grades
Step 1
24. •The sum for each component is converted to
the Percentage Score. TO compute the
Percentage Score (PS), divide the raw score
by the highest possible score then multiply
the quotient by 100%.
Step 2
25. •The Percentage Scores are converted to
Weighted Scores to show the importance of
each component in promoting learning in
different subjects.
•Percentage Score is multiplied by the weight
of the component. The product is known as
the Weighted Score (WS).
Step 3
26. 32
Weights of the Components for SHS
Multiply the Percentage Score by the weights of the components
27. • The summary of learner progress is shown
quarterly to parents and guardians through a
parent-teacher conference, in which the
Report Card is discussed. Remarks are
given at the end of the grade level.
How is the learner’s progress
reported?
28. •For SHS:
The two quarters
determine the Final
Grade in a semester.
How are grades computed at the
end of the school year?
31 subjects with 80 hours per subject totalling 2,480 hours for all 31
15 Core subjects
16 Track subjects have two categories: 7 applied and 9 specialization subjects.
Core and applied subjects are connected with the new GE Curriculum of CHED
