In what ways does your magazine use or develop or challenge forms of
conventions of real media products.

2. Use
Here i have clearly
used the color scheme
of the magazine on the
right i have don't this as
the colours stand out
and do bounce off
each other, The red
stands out a lot on the
black and draws your
attention to the more
important elements of
the front cover.
I have also used a shadow effect
like the magazine on the right. This
is purely because the background
being light means that this effect
means that the model stands out
a lot more. This is more appealing
to the audience.
I have also used the line at the
top of the page with different
rappers and artist within the
genre. This is purly t identify that
the magazine represents the rap
genre and there will be more
information inside for that
audience

I also used the Mid shot.
The magazine on the
right uses a mid shot of
the rapper "Eminem" This
draws the main
attention to it. I also
have used a mid shot. I
think it is the main stand
out thing on the page.
And it needs to be. The
model needs to stand
out he needs to be
dominating the page.
Like the page on the
right i have made the
rapper overlap some of
the text this is symbolic
of the dominance he
has over the page.
I have added a similar
background to the pages. This is
because i think that the
background being like this does
look nice. Also having the
background plain means that the
stuff on it stands out. Also the
model stands out more on it. This
benefits me in the area of
appalling and reaching out to my
target audience.

3. Develop
Also i have aligned
everything such as
the text and how it
looks a lot more
than the "Vibe"
magazine on the
right. The text and
the rectangle
underlines the
heading. I have
spent a lot of time
on this as i think it
gives a very
professional aspect
to the magazine.
These little details is
what will make it
stand out when on
a shelf with the
audience looking
at it.
I have develop many things
of this magazine front cover,
1 being the way i have made
the text less bloated. I have
also made it stand out more.
By adding black rectangles
behind the text that it the
same color and texture as
the background means that
it attended out alot more.
As you can see the backgrounds look very different. The
background on the right is plain. Where as mine has a cracked
effect on it. I added this on because it helps create and
distinguish the genre of rap. This will help the customer find there
certain genre easier which is what you want, i wanted a
recognizable front cover. Aso this cracked effect makes the
model stand out alot more
I have changed the colour of
what the model is wearing to
make the shadow stand out.

4. challenge

more as it is
easier to read.
Not only this
however it
makes it a lot
easier to
distinguish the
genre of rap
I have added a price on the bottom right hand corner. I think the magazine should
have this information on as it is a valuable thing for the consumer to know. Weather or
not they are willing to pay for the magazine with the money they have

how the magazine is
more deicated to this
rapper alone.

5. Use
Another similarity is that both of
the contents pages use page
numbers. I have used page
numbers, Not because vibe
magazine has. But because i think
that they are vital to the
audience to be able to navigate
around the magazine.
Here is the heading on both
magazines. On the right is the
magazine "vibe". I have took
inspiration from this massively, as
you can tell. I have used the same
layout as they have in the word
"contents" mainly how it is set out
and the placement of each letter
itself. As they have used three
columns to make up the word. I
liked this idea as i found it unique.
It also adds to the genre i think
that when i was analyzing the
contents page on the right i found
that having the contents set out in
this fashion makes it look like rap
culture.
Also I know this is not the
exactly same but i used
the same principle as the
other magazine. I wanted
to make my magazine
have a recognizable
element to it, as on the
VIBE magazine which is the
title of the music magazine
we see the "V" running
throughout the magazine. I
wanted to implement this
into my magazine to. S o to
do this i have "SK" on my
pages so the audience
recognizes what magazine
it is from.
Here is a shot of how i
used the "ViBe"
magazine to use and
incorporate some of
the ideas i have
talked about.
By doing this it
helped me use add
the background and
also the "contents".
This is why i think the
two look so similar.
I had this in the background and i would put my own spin
on the things i was useing from the "Vibe" magazine. Like
on the heading "Contents" as you see on the "Vibe"
magazine the T is not online with the N above it. I did not
think this looked good so i made sure mine was online i
found this to look better and more profession which is
what i was after.
I have used the colour scheme of the Contents page. By this i am on about how i
have implemented the use of black and white on the images i have added of my
model. I have done this because i think it creates genre.

6. Develop
As i said earlier i have based my
contents page on the "VIBE"
magazine. However there is many
things that i have developed and
added my own personal
preferences into the magazine's
contents page, such as the
heading of the contents page. I
have aligned all of it so it looks
more professional.
Here i have used the "Features" i have added a
rectangle box around the Text I then made the
background the color of the text. So basically i have
swapped around what is going on in the "vibe"
magazine regarding the "Features" list. I have done this
because i feel it helps allow it to stand out alot more. I
wanted it to stand out so because it is an important list
on my " Contents page.
I have developed the colour scheme of the "contents page" I have done this because i have a theme
going throughout the magazine with the use of red colours. I have kept this going here i have added it
on the "page 1" and the numbers at the start of the "features" list. I have dont this because i think it is
vital the audience can navigate to and from pages within the magazine easily. So although it follows
the theme it does make it clearer and easy to navigate around the magazine, to and from pages. I
think this is the one criticism i would have on "vibe" as it is hard to see these page numbers.
I have developed and tailored
the use of the brand name Vibe I
have used the initials SK which
stands out for the heading of my
title.

7. Challenge
There is one big difference in the
use of images used in these to
"contents" pages. The rap
magazine that is made by vibe
uses a mid-shot of a model "kenye
west". This i used so you can see all
of the clothing that he is wearing.
However i have gone for two
images. The first image is a mix of
a mid shot and close up. I
wanted this shot as you can still
see the mise-en-scene with the
hood up but also you are able to
notice the facial expression. This
also makes it easy for the
audience to illustrate the rapper
and who he is. Which is a bonus
for them if this is possible. The
second image is a long shot of the
rapper with himself pointing up
this is symbolic of the position he is
in, however he is pointing at the
fractures list this is a good shot
and also helps the customer to
navigate.
I have changed where i have positioned the "page 1" I have put mine in
the "top right" as there was space that needed filling here. Where as on
the magazine on the right there is space in the bottom right for this
information. I have my image here so i put it there instead. However i think
that having it here i am able to make it bigger and this results in it being
more clear to the audience and easier to distinguish.
I have also
changed the
position of the text.
This is blank
because i wanted
the imaged to be
on the right of the
page, by doing this
it means i am
unable to have it
here. So i put it on
the left hand side
of the page.
However using
knowledge i know
that humans read
from left to right .
So it may make it a
little easier for the
customer to read
the features list.

8. Use
Here is a Double page
spread that i looked at to
get inspiration when
creating my own. I used the
use of colors on the
background as you can see.
I did this because i was to
using black dark text on the
background and i wanted it
to stand out as the one on
the right does.
One other thing that i used was
the way the text is set out in
three columns. I incorporated
this into my magazine because
i think it looks pleasing on the
eye. Not only this however i
feel that it makes it easier for
the audience to read as the
text is not in one big block.
Here another thing
that i used was to
use the rappers
name on the page.
However there are
in different places
this is still another
thing that i took of
this "vibe"
magazine double
page spread. I did
this as it helps
create the genre.
Haveing a rappers
name on the page
will make it
recognizable to the
audience. Also it is
a indicator to what
the text is going to
be about and
weather it is
appealing to them
personally, so they
can make the
decision weather
the read is worth
there time.
The "vibe
magazine
used quotes
from the text
as did i. This
should help
pull the
audience in
and make
them want to
read it.
I also used the Red and black colour scheme with in the text i think the red really stands
out on the black. Also it fits in with the theme of the magazine

9. DevelopI have developed the quotes used on my magazine i have done this
because i think that the quote may hook the audience into reading
into the story. So i want to make the quote fit the genre as much a
possible. So i did this by the Font i used and where i placed the
quote for one i have used two. This would increase the chance of
the consumer seeing the quote and being hooked in. Anyway i
have placed mine on my images of the model. Which would be the
main attraction of the page. So by doing this there is more of a
cpossibiliy they will see it
I also developed
the heading. It
might not appear
that the magazine
on the right has a
heading because
it is located at the
bottom of the
page. Not the
traditional place
for a heading. So i
have added my
headings at the
top of the page. I
feel that this is
where headings
belong. As many
people have a
come to headings
being located
here. I will be a ot
easier to
distinguish the
heading for the
audience.

10. Challenge I have challenged many things here. One being the layout of the text. I have
done it in three columns as i believe that having it in three columns makes it easier
for the consumer to consume the information within the paragraphs. Also to add
to this i have split up the text this also will help. However the magazine on the right
had the text either side of the rapper/model. Having the text positioned between
the image is confusing. I feel that i personally would not be sure where to start
reading weather it be the one paragraph on the left or the two on the right as
they look like different forms of text. Having it all together makes it a little easier.
Also i have
added the
background to
my two images.
I have done this
to create the
genre, as it is
not easy to
distinguish this
on the
magazine on
the right. With
no mis-en-scene
in the image.
