1. Task 5 - Film
Funding
Funding for small films
By Tyrell Batchelor
2. Introduction
In
this task I am going to be researching
‘where funding for small films comes from
in the UK, and what process is involved in
securing it. Where you would hope to
secure funding from for your film and
why.’ I am going to be doing this so that I
am aware for when I do my thriller
opening sequence I will be able to
choose the funding most appropriate.
3. List of film funding

5.
UK Film Council/British Film Institute
National and Regional Screen Agencies
Local Councils
Charities
Production Schemes &Competitions
4. UK Film Council/British Film
Institute
UK
Film Council was the first place to go
for funding on a national level but they
closed because the BFI took over the
majority of the responsibilities.
5. Local Councils
Local
councils will often put money
towards short film making for e.g. dealing
with issues like social exclusion or if it aids
the local community.
6. Charities
Lots
of charities fund short films it will
require you think about the type of film
you would like to make, try link the charity
the topic/goals of the film being made.
For e.g. Wellcome Trust a medical
research charity has a Arts Award that
fund projects/short films.
7. Production Schemes &
Competitions
Schemes
can be set up by broadcasters/
other organisation that produce short
series i.e. BBC New Music Short/ Chanel
4/UK film council’s Cinema Extreme
8. Crowd Funding
By
drawing the near unlimited audience
of from the internet for small amount of
money it has to be eye catching to
appeal to the audience.
9. Conclusion
From
the research that I have gathered
by doing this task, I was able to come to
the conclusion that I would go to the
British Film Institute because I would like
my film to have the opportunity screen to
the nation as I feel it is an achievable goal
of making my where the BFI will make a
good investment as I feel that all of our
plan and conventions etc. fit the genre of
thriller resulting in a big success.
