Distribute
1. What kind of media institution
might distribute your media product
and why?
2. • My film has elements of emotional abuse and
urban living in it, and I think it reflects such films
as Kidulthood in this way. Kidulthood was
distributed by the company Revolver, and I think
this company would be the type of institute to
distribute my film.
3. • Revolver Entertainment is a British film distribution
company that was established in London in 1997.
• Revolver entertainment has distributed such social
realist films as; Shank, Kidulthood, and Stealth.
• The company has gained a good reputation through the
distribution of these films that become popular.
4. • Distributors sign a formal agreement with the
producer, sales agent or studio, specifying the
rights they hold in respect of the title. These
normally include the right to release it in UK
cinemas and promote it in all media before and
during its release. There may also be provision
for the film to be edited locally (or not) in order
to secure a particular classification. The contract
will set out how the income from the release is to
be apportioned and accounted for, and set a date
on which the distribution license expires.
5. Funding
I think that the UK Film Council would fund my film because
they have a tendency to support and finance British films.
However the UK Film council lost its place as the main funder of
British films in August 2011, but it is still a well known company.
Instead the BFI now funds films through the national lottery.
6. • In order for your film to be funded by the BFI, a
Cultural Test needed to be taken to confirm if my
film is British or not to be certified.
Score = 0/3
Score = 8/8
Score = 16/16
Score = 4/4
For a film to be classes as British it has to score at least
16 out of 31 points, overall I scored 28/31 so my films
would be certified to be funded by the BFI.
