1. Literacy Narrative Essay example
At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward
reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure
but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit
discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I
enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in
my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into
the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content...
You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the
same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was
intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing
are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't
personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the
most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and
professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to
write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to.
Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am
assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find
myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this
would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the
majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and
therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume
every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the

Narrative: A memorable event.
I woke to my body jittering with anxiety. It was 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning, and it was the
day that I had been awaiting for. I was almost ready when my Dad shouted '' Ya betta get ya'self
moving Kertesha, we're gonna be late!''.
I paused, and took one last look at myself in the mirror. My hair was scraped back, my polo necked
fleece was suffocating and itchy, my black ribbed jodhpurs were tight around my midriff, but there
was one thing missing. It was one thing which all the girls on the internet, in the movies, and in all
the equestrian magazines had – A gilet. Mine was a pink Abercrombie & Fitch one, with ribbed
salmon trims around the waistband and collar; it was not a real equestrian gilet,...show more content...
Although the smell of the manure was strong, over time I began to appreciate it, and so it became
more of an aroma, than an odour. But this is something my Dad never seemed to get used, to let
alone appreciate. The entire stable had a rather odd smell; it was a mixture of hay, cut grass, dust,
manure, and oddly, a hint of leather. This was a smell which I soon became very fond of.
There were six of us in the group, we were all new to Dulwhich Riding School and filled with
enthusiasm. After being handed our riding hats, we were alphabetically permitted to choose a horse,
and as always, I was last in the alphabet. I was left with a choice of two, one was a blue roan filly.
She was a young slate coloured horse who reminded me of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh), and
was also a lot smaller than the other horses. Then I saw the attractive sorrel coloured gelding, he
stood glaring at me with his head poking out of the barn gate. His mane was dark and silky, and he
had a striking white birthmark on the bridge of his nose. I had an instant connection with him, and
proclaimed his name as Cashmere.
As I lead Cashmere towards the indoor riding arena, my heart raced. The inconsistent sound hoofs
trotting along the cobbled ground were intensifying. As I stroked Cashmere's muzzle and gave him a
mint polo (he's favourites), I began to mentally prepared myself to mount, and ride him.

A literacy narrative is something that a author writes in first–person that has to do with a experience
that the author has had throughout his or her life, with that experience having to do with writing
or reading something. Freshman year in high school I decided to take American Sign Language
which not only involves learning how to move your hands the correct way, or learning how to
shape your hands, it also entailed learning ASL gloss which was kind of tricky. When learning
ASL gloss I had learn how to read the gloss and understand what it actually meant. I also had to

I was officially diagnosed with Anxiety this summer, 2016. Since I was little my parents claim
they knew I had it. My parents would tell you my mood swings would be out of control. When
something would go astray my mood would shift. Shift to almost a three year old having a
meltdown. The crying, creaming, hyperventilating, shaking, the world seemed it was ending in
my eyes. Many times if you were to ask me why I was behaving as such I couldn't tell you. Losing
sight to what the initial issue was. I was go to bed after, my parents telling my I need a nap. I
would crawl into bed, the familiar sent of the linen sheets, calming me down. I would wake up from
my na being completely refreshed. The mood swing would be over, or otherwise known as the

things in life are provided to you, you never truly realize how much everything can mean. As
teenagers most of us are immature and do not realize how easy it is for us to lose everything we

that night I was told of the trip. Next morning I woke up bright and early ate breakfast and we

that was interesting about the travel was the fact that during one of flights I was sat beside a drunk
idiot and then got moved up a few seats and got 3 seats all to myself! When we finally landed in
Pakistan it did not look anything different than in Canada. I thought "oh well maybe it looks the
same, and is the same" because personally I didn't know much about this place other than the fact
I had family here. When we got all our stuff and headed out in a car I noticed nothing different but
that might have been due to the fact I was kind of fatigued and the fact we were in a bigger city.
On the travel to my cousins I fell asleep, and didn't get woken up until we reached their house.
When I got out of the car I was too tired and was way to jetlagged to realize how different things

The lake glistened before me as my mom and I pulled into Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp just outside
Twin Lakes Michigan. I had been accepted into the International Youth SymphonyOrchestra
program where after spending a week at the camp the entire orchestra would be heading off on a
six week European Tour to share our musical talents and American culture with another part of the
world. I knew traveling to a different continent would give me further insight as to who I was a
person, but did not imagine the people I would meet would impact me as much as they did.
His name was Alex Peabody, a 16 year old junior from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Although we weren't
best friends, we were still close with one another throughout the tour. He had messy brown hair
that framed his round face and always wore a big flashy smile. One of my favorite moments with
him was while we were waiting to board the bus to go the the airport. While we sat waiting, I was
practicing my flute in preparation for our first concert in France. Many of the other students were
practicing, talking, giggling, or sharing newly found favorite songs with their friends. The noise
was deafening and created a carnival of sound that grew louder with each passing minute. Out of
the corner of my eye I saw Alex, a cello player, watching me practice, his eyes bright with
fascination.

My Fear– Personal Narrative Every child, teenager and adult has experienced anxiety, fear or
worry at some time in their lives. Everyone has their own phobias. Some are just temporary
whereas others just linger, haunting them forever. Life allows us each of us to experience
challenges in our own way. But when these challenges become almost impossible to complete,
they become long term problems. When faced with fear, one looks for the easiest route out, but
in my case, there were no signposts. There is one part of my life that I vividly recall. I don't really

I didn't know why this was happening and felt that I had no control over my thoughts or fears. By
this stage, I would have persistent nightmares of my house burning down where everyone in the
building would escape, with the exception of me. I remember how I felt after being awoken by
the fear of death. It was a feeling of confusion and I didn't know why this was happening. My
phobia totally disabled me and at the time I found it difficult to relax. I live alone with my mum
and she was unaware of what I was secretly going through. At the time, I never really opened my
eyes to the fact that I had a problem. I told myself that it was just a phase and that I was fine but
deep down I think I always knew that this was untrue. Another habit of mine was counting
syllables of words. Whenever I would see a shop sign I would count the syllables of the words
written and would ensure that the number of syllables did not exceed sixteen (my favourite
number). One evening, a friend of mine had visited my home for dinner and I could do nothing
but worry about the food overcooking and causing a fire. It would not leave my mind and was all
that I could think of. That is when I noticed that my actions were odd. I almost immediately logged
on to the internet and searched for fire related obsessions.

The fairy tales say that once upon a time a girl met a boy; they fell in love, and lived happily ever
after. Reality is not that simple. Long–term relationships force couples to get to know each other,
involve themselves in each others' worlds, fight through the hard times, and eventually develop
deeper connections through distinctive stages of Knapp's relationship model. Although I have dated
the same person for over two years, the stages of our communication make it seem as though I am

jealous and angry. He tested my feelings for him by making me feel guilty about even looking in
the direction of other guys. At the time, I ignored his jealousy because my strong feelings for him
overshadowed my own needs as an individual. Looking back, I realize our involvement actually
intensified, for the better and the worse. John evolved into my best friend and, wrapping myself
in his world, I lost my core group of friends. We had reached interpersonal commitment. All of my
time belonged to John. We went to events and hung out according to his time frame, with little
consideration for my time. All John needed to say was "no, I don't want to do that," and I
respected his decision. Looking back, I realize how little John respected me. Our relationship grew
in predictability as we learned each other's schedules, emotions, and family habits. Dates always

never involved social bonding beyond our families. Instead, moments of novelty, like rock

My Birth Story
A baby's life helps to form and shape the future for that child; this goes the same for me. My birth,
my sign, and my name, all relate to the way I live and act today. Many people may not see this
connection for themselves, but it takes a little bit of research and thinking to come to realize why
people are the way they are. Every day and every action that a child experiences can influence their
actions as an adult.
I was born on a Monday morning at 5:33. Although my mother was not in labor for long, she did
take her time getting to the hospital to give birth. I was born on April 23, 1984, the day after Easter

brother was born, I had a new playmate and someone to grow with.
Taureans are also known to have very strong opinions and a strong voice. All through middle
school, my voice wasn't always used for academics; all my report cards said: "...She's a good
student, but has a tendency to socialize too much during class". Throughout high school, my
teachers have been able to tell when I haven't done my homework because I didn't have anything

voice in every debate or discussion that took part during the class. My Bioethics teacher once told
me "...Cammy, give someone else a chance, you're monopolizing the class" I was a little shocked,
but I knew she was right and shut up.

shame that I think this way. It's a shame because I love my mother, and my father ruins that for me.
In a perfect world I would go home to just my mother, and wouldn 't have to worry about the hatred
that my father endures towards my family, and for no reason at that.
With all these thoughts rushing through my head, I finally realize that I have been daydreaming so

I say to myself aloud, "If I go in that means I am roughly eight hours from being back at home."
Instead of entering the school I immediately turn around to walk back to my house. Nobody is
