Literacy Narrative Essay example
At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward
reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure
but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit
discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I
enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in
my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into
the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content...
You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the
same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was
intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing
are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't
personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the
most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and
professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to
write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to.
Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am
assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find
myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this
would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the
majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and
therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume
every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the

Narrative: a Memorable Event. Essay
Narrative: A memorable event.
I woke to my body jittering with anxiety. It was 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning, and it was the
day that I had been awaiting for. I was almost ready when my Dad shouted '' Ya betta get ya'self
moving Kertesha, we're gonna be late!''.
I paused, and took one last look at myself in the mirror. My hair was scraped back, my polo necked
fleece was suffocating and itchy, my black ribbed jodhpurs were tight around my midriff, but there
was one thing missing. It was one thing which all the girls on the internet, in the movies, and in all
the equestrian magazines had – A gilet. Mine was a pink Abercrombie & Fitch one, with ribbed
salmon trims around the waistband and collar; it was not a real equestrian gilet,...show more content...
Although the smell of the manure was strong, over time I began to appreciate it, and so it became
more of an aroma, than an odour. But this is something my Dad never seemed to get used, to let
alone appreciate. The entire stable had a rather odd smell; it was a mixture of hay, cut grass, dust,
manure, and oddly, a hint of leather. This was a smell which I soon became very fond of.
There were six of us in the group, we were all new to Dulwhich Riding School and filled with
enthusiasm. After being handed our riding hats, we were alphabetically permitted to choose a horse,
and as always, I was last in the alphabet. I was left with a choice of two, one was a blue roan filly.
She was a young slate coloured horse who reminded me of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh), and
was also a lot smaller than the other horses. Then I saw the attractive sorrel coloured gelding, he
stood glaring at me with his head poking out of the barn gate. His mane was dark and silky, and he
had a striking white birthmark on the bridge of his nose. I had an instant connection with him, and
proclaimed his name as Cashmere.
As I lead Cashmere towards the indoor riding arena, my heart raced. The inconsistent sound hoofs
trotting along the cobbled ground were intensifying. As I stroked Cashmere's muzzle and gave him a
mint polo (he's favourites), I began to mentally prepared myself to mount, and ride him.
Cashmere was

Very briefly summarize the narrative in 4–10 sentences. 2) Identify one particular detail (we will call
this a "salient detail") that stood out to you from the text. Quote a portion of that detail here and
explain why you think this detail stuck with you after reading the essay. 3) Explain what you think
was the point or purpose of the essay. In other words, if you had to try to create a thesis for the

Example Of Literacy Narrative
A literacy narrative is something that a author writes in first–person that has to do with a experience
that the author has had throughout his or her life, with that experience having to do with writing
or reading something. Freshman year in high school I decided to take American Sign Language
which not only involves learning how to move your hands the correct way, or learning how to
shape your hands, it also entailed learning ASL gloss which was kind of tricky. When learning
ASL gloss I had learn how to read the gloss and understand what it actually meant. I also had to
learn how to write the gloss, this skill became important junior year when I had to translate song
lyrics to ASL gloss. Many people wouldn't understand ASL gloss if they

Narrative Essay On Anxiety
I was officially diagnosed with Anxiety this summer, 2016. Since I was little my parents claim
they knew I had it. My parents would tell you my mood swings would be out of control. When
something would go astray my mood would shift. Shift to almost a three year old having a
meltdown. The crying, creaming, hyperventilating, shaking, the world seemed it was ending in
my eyes. Many times if you were to ask me why I was behaving as such I couldn't tell you. Losing
sight to what the initial issue was. I was go to bed after, my parents telling my I need a nap. I
would crawl into bed, the familiar sent of the linen sheets, calming me down. I would wake up from
my na being completely refreshed. The mood swing would be over, or otherwise known as the
manic low.

I did it for fun and loved it, just like nay other college student. But than I discovered "self
medicating" in a sense. I did a ton of research and I started smoking to help with my anxiety. I
discovered a medicine that helped me.
I found the right amount to smoke to help me daily and I found more of my triggers and how to
handle them. I know I need structure. I started smoking every night. Because at night my
thoughts being to race and my anxiety starts to spike. So every night I would smoke after a
month of doing so I learned that my anxiety went way down. After three months, my friends
started noticing that my anxiety "went away". Since than living with anxiety has been doable for
me. I feel I can manage it. I feel I have control over my anxiety. My grades went up because I was
able to focus on school and not anxiety. My friends and I created a closer bond because once
again I was able to focus on us and not the anxiety. Everything was becoming clear to me.
Everyone has their own way of handling anxiety. Medications world for some vs others like me, it
made it worse. However I found my solution for anxiety. I found what worked for

As times goes on you, realize life isn't all it seems to be. You learn life lessons and certain life
events teach you things that can lead to you improving yourself as a person. As you realize most
things in life are provided to you, you never truly realize how much everything can mean. As
teenagers most of us are immature and do not realize how easy it is for us to lose everything we
have. As we could lose everything and anything in a matter of seconds if we are not careful.
It was another typical Monday morning, I had that same feeling I always do when I wake up,

The next week was a breeze and it comes down to the night before I had already packed all my stuff
that night I was told of the trip. Next morning I woke up bright and early ate breakfast and we
headed to the airport. The next few hours were mostly just traveling typical airplane food, only thing
that was interesting about the travel was the fact that during one of flights I was sat beside a drunk
idiot and then got moved up a few seats and got 3 seats all to myself! When we finally landed in
Pakistan it did not look anything different than in Canada. I thought "oh well maybe it looks the
same, and is the same" because personally I didn't know much about this place other than the fact
I had family here. When we got all our stuff and headed out in a car I noticed nothing different but
that might have been due to the fact I was kind of fatigued and the fact we were in a bigger city.
On the travel to my cousins I fell asleep, and didn't get woken up until we reached their house.
When I got out of the car I was too tired and was way to jetlagged to realize how different things
were so I went straight into the house and went back to bed.
I mostly slept for the whole first day. As I woke up by my family, they invited me to go out and try
out some of the local foods as everything here was very fresh down to

Personal Narrative – Rough Draft
The lake glistened before me as my mom and I pulled into Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp just outside
Twin Lakes Michigan. I had been accepted into the International Youth SymphonyOrchestra
program where after spending a week at the camp the entire orchestra would be heading off on a
six week European Tour to share our musical talents and American culture with another part of the
world. I knew traveling to a different continent would give me further insight as to who I was a
person, but did not imagine the people I would meet would impact me as much as they did.
His name was Alex Peabody, a 16 year old junior from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Although we weren't
best friends, we were still close with one another throughout the tour. He had messy brown hair
that framed his round face and always wore a big flashy smile. One of my favorite moments with
him was while we were waiting to board the bus to go the the airport. While we sat waiting, I was
practicing my flute in preparation for our first concert in France. Many of the other students were
practicing, talking, giggling, or sharing newly found favorite songs with their friends. The noise
was deafening and created a carnival of sound that grew louder with each passing minute. Out of
the corner of my eye I saw Alex, a cello player, watching me practice, his eyes bright with
fascination.
"Alex, do you know how to play flute?" I called to

My Fear- Personal Narrative Essay
My Fear– Personal Narrative Every child, teenager and adult has experienced anxiety, fear or
worry at some time in their lives. Everyone has their own phobias. Some are just temporary
whereas others just linger, haunting them forever. Life allows us each of us to experience
challenges in our own way. But when these challenges become almost impossible to complete,
they become long term problems. When faced with fear, one looks for the easiest route out, but
in my case, there were no signposts. There is one part of my life that I vividly recall. I don't really
know when or how it started. Maybe I'd had it all my life or maybe it developed at a certain age.
Perhaps, that will remain an unsolved...show more content...
I didn't know why this was happening and felt that I had no control over my thoughts or fears. By
this stage, I would have persistent nightmares of my house burning down where everyone in the
building would escape, with the exception of me. I remember how I felt after being awoken by
the fear of death. It was a feeling of confusion and I didn't know why this was happening. My
phobia totally disabled me and at the time I found it difficult to relax. I live alone with my mum
and she was unaware of what I was secretly going through. At the time, I never really opened my
eyes to the fact that I had a problem. I told myself that it was just a phase and that I was fine but
deep down I think I always knew that this was untrue. Another habit of mine was counting
syllables of words. Whenever I would see a shop sign I would count the syllables of the words
written and would ensure that the number of syllables did not exceed sixteen (my favourite
number). One evening, a friend of mine had visited my home for dinner and I could do nothing
but worry about the food overcooking and causing a fire. It would not leave my mind and was all
that I could think of. That is when I noticed that my actions were odd. I almost immediately logged
on to the internet and searched for fire related obsessions.

in a girls organization. This experience taught me many things. We were actively involved in
community service activities, for which I received the Silver Award. ( The second highest award

organization first introduced me to my future career. I was also involved for three and a half years
in a student government club on campus. In this club I learned many life lessons. One of which
was the value of hard work. I was one of the few people that organized the Junior/Senior Prom of
2000. My responsibilities included planning corranation, buying and organizing decorations,
planning the busing schedule, booking the photographers, fundraising, ect. This taught me about
hard work. But the best part of it was going to Prom knowing I was one of the only reasons that it
happened. As far as school goes, my schedule is very diverse. I am taking child development lab,
which is a class where students from my high school can go to the local elementary schools and
work one on one with the students. I have work in the elementary school for two and a half years. I

Achieving A Personal Goal
In the beginning of the semester, I felt a little annoyed that I had to plan a personal goal. I was
afraid that I was going to fail once again during the journey of losing weight. My personal goal
was to lose five pounds by April 1, 2016. I had planned to achieve this goal by eating healthier
snacks, exercising, and meal prepping. Trying to achieve this goal was not easy. I had a constant
temptation of breaking my diet and I kept trying to buy fast food whenever I saw myself tight with
my school and work schedule. However, I was able to achieve my goal because I was meal prepping

Relationship Narrative: Personal Narrative Essay
The fairy tales say that once upon a time a girl met a boy; they fell in love, and lived happily ever
after. Reality is not that simple. Long–term relationships force couples to get to know each other,
involve themselves in each others' worlds, fight through the hard times, and eventually develop
deeper connections through distinctive stages of Knapp's relationship model. Although I have dated
the same person for over two years, the stages of our communication make it seem as though I am
now dating a different person following dissolution and subsequent repair. However, even the most
exhilarating of roller coaster rides develop through a combination of ups and downs, much like the
stages of a relationship. Initial contact came the...show more content...
After our relationship moved beyond involvement, his protective instincts overpowered
everything. I actually welcomed this protection as a sign of his caring for me since I always
wanted a guy to protect me from conflict, just like in the movies. However, this overprotection
stifled me and made me feel guilty whenever my communications with another guy made John
jealous and angry. He tested my feelings for him by making me feel guilty about even looking in
the direction of other guys. At the time, I ignored his jealousy because my strong feelings for him
overshadowed my own needs as an individual. Looking back, I realize our involvement actually
intensified, for the better and the worse. John evolved into my best friend and, wrapping myself
in his world, I lost my core group of friends. We had reached interpersonal commitment. All of my
time belonged to John. We went to events and hung out according to his time frame, with little
consideration for my time. All John needed to say was "no, I don't want to do that," and I
respected his decision. Looking back, I realize how little John respected me. Our relationship grew
in predictability as we learned each other's schedules, emotions, and family habits. Dates always
went the same way, involving dinner with his family followed by a rented movie. Our interactions
never involved social bonding beyond our families. Instead, moments of novelty, like rock

hard work just for this one little moment when the game was on the line. Back to reality our
quarterback had started the play and it looked like it was going nowhere and we might have to got

Essay about My Birth Story
My Birth Story
A baby's life helps to form and shape the future for that child; this goes the same for me. My birth,
my sign, and my name, all relate to the way I live and act today. Many people may not see this
connection for themselves, but it takes a little bit of research and thinking to come to realize why
people are the way they are. Every day and every action that a child experiences can influence their
actions as an adult.
I was born on a Monday morning at 5:33. Although my mother was not in labor for long, she did
take her time getting to the hospital to give birth. I was born on April 23, 1984, the day after Easter

I am adjusting like any child would to their new surroundings, and getting used to daily life as a

year, I know I will make friends and meet people to enjoy college life with, much like when my
brother was born, I had a new playmate and someone to grow with.
Taureans are also known to have very strong opinions and a strong voice. All through middle
school, my voice wasn't always used for academics; all my report cards said: "...She's a good
student, but has a tendency to socialize too much during class". Throughout high school, my
teachers have been able to tell when I haven't done my homework because I didn't have anything
to say about the book or the article we read. I was known to be social occasionally and a strong
voice in every debate or discussion that took part during the class. My Bioethics teacher once told
me "...Cammy, give someone else a chance, you're monopolizing the class" I was a little shocked,
but I knew she was right and shut up.
As a Taurus, I also have an inclination to make sure people are taken care of, especially in my own
home or my "territory." Although I don't host many parties, when I do haveguests, I like to be sure
that they are comfortable and have everything they need. For example, about a week ago, my

This morning I woke up, the same as everyday stretching my legs off my bed and onto the floor, my

I walk to school alone everyday, and that is okay with me because I enjoy the peace, and quite. As
I walk I think about how I can't wait to get to school, but I also think about how when I get to

shame that I think this way. It's a shame because I love my mother, and my father ruins that for me.
In a perfect world I would go home to just my mother, and wouldn 't have to worry about the hatred
that my father endures towards my family, and for no reason at that.
With all these thoughts rushing through my head, I finally realize that I have been daydreaming so
long that I am no longer walking, but I am at a halt in front of the main entrance of my high school.
I say to myself aloud, "If I go in that means I am roughly eight hours from being back at home."
Instead of entering the school I immediately turn around to walk back to my house. Nobody is
there during the day so that means I can actually enjoy being home without the worry of anyone
belittling myself or my mother. My walking now turns into a light jog, as for once I am excited
about the idea of being home. Finally I am approaching the driveway to my house where I see a

My Literacy Narrative
My literacy narrative focused on an event, which changed my perspective towards reading. This
event revolved around my life and later resulted in a better version of myself. It was about a
competition for which I appeared during my freshman year in high school. There were some key
points, which I noticed while working on my literacy narrative. Throughout my work, I enjoyed the
ways of employing the five authentic skills that enriched my narrative with not just my words, but
also with my emotions that are associated to it.
While working on my narrative, I observed several factors including obstacles, thereby making it
harder to produce a unique, quality work. The first one was the incompetence to choose a topic.

were all still really tired, but we were also really excited. We packed everything in our GMC van
and headed for my grandmother's house. We had made arrangements to leave our van at her house
so that we would not have to pay for parking at the airport. The limo would pick us up at my
grandmother's house in Saint John and drive us to Gary Regional Airport so that

How To Write A Narrative Essay Examples

  • 1. Literacy Narrative Essay example At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content... You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 3. Narrative: a Memorable Event. Essay Narrative: A memorable event. I woke to my body jittering with anxiety. It was 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning, and it was the day that I had been awaiting for. I was almost ready when my Dad shouted '' Ya betta get ya'self moving Kertesha, we're gonna be late!''. I paused, and took one last look at myself in the mirror. My hair was scraped back, my polo necked fleece was suffocating and itchy, my black ribbed jodhpurs were tight around my midriff, but there was one thing missing. It was one thing which all the girls on the internet, in the movies, and in all the equestrian magazines had – A gilet. Mine was a pink Abercrombie & Fitch one, with ribbed salmon trims around the waistband and collar; it was not a real equestrian gilet,...show more content... Although the smell of the manure was strong, over time I began to appreciate it, and so it became more of an aroma, than an odour. But this is something my Dad never seemed to get used, to let alone appreciate. The entire stable had a rather odd smell; it was a mixture of hay, cut grass, dust, manure, and oddly, a hint of leather. This was a smell which I soon became very fond of. There were six of us in the group, we were all new to Dulwhich Riding School and filled with enthusiasm. After being handed our riding hats, we were alphabetically permitted to choose a horse, and as always, I was last in the alphabet. I was left with a choice of two, one was a blue roan filly. She was a young slate coloured horse who reminded me of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh), and was also a lot smaller than the other horses. Then I saw the attractive sorrel coloured gelding, he stood glaring at me with his head poking out of the barn gate. His mane was dark and silky, and he had a striking white birthmark on the bridge of his nose. I had an instant connection with him, and proclaimed his name as Cashmere. As I lead Cashmere towards the indoor riding arena, my heart raced. The inconsistent sound hoofs trotting along the cobbled ground were intensifying. As I stroked Cashmere's muzzle and gave him a mint polo (he's favourites), I began to mentally prepared myself to mount, and ride him. Cashmere was Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Narrative In 4-10 Paragraphs Very briefly summarize the narrative in 4–10 sentences. 2) Identify one particular detail (we will call this a "salient detail") that stood out to you from the text. • 5. Example Of Literacy Narrative A literacy narrative is something that a author writes in first–person that has to do with a experience that the author has had throughout his or her life, with that experience having to do with writing or reading something. Freshman year in high school I decided to take American Sign Language which not only involves learning how to move your hands the correct way, or learning how to shape your hands, it also entailed learning ASL gloss which was kind of tricky. When learning ASL gloss I had learn how to read the gloss and understand what it actually meant. I also had to learn how to write the gloss, this skill became important junior year when I had to translate song lyrics to ASL gloss. Many people wouldn't understand ASL gloss if they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Narrative Essay On Anxiety I was officially diagnosed with Anxiety this summer, 2016. Since I was little my parents claim they knew I had it. My parents would tell you my mood swings would be out of control. When something would go astray my mood would shift. Shift to almost a three year old having a meltdown. The crying, creaming, hyperventilating, shaking, the world seemed it was ending in my eyes. Many times if you were to ask me why I was behaving as such I couldn't tell you. Losing sight to what the initial issue was. I was go to bed after, my parents telling my I need a nap. I would crawl into bed, the familiar sent of the linen sheets, calming me down. I would wake up from my na being completely refreshed. The mood swing would be over, or otherwise known as the manic low. Having anxiety...show more content... I did it for fun and loved it, just like nay other college student. But than I discovered "self medicating" in a sense. I did a ton of research and I started smoking to help with my anxiety. I discovered a medicine that helped me. I found the right amount to smoke to help me daily and I found more of my triggers and how to handle them. I know I need structure. I started smoking every night. Because at night my thoughts being to race and my anxiety starts to spike. So every night I would smoke after a month of doing so I learned that my anxiety went way down. After three months, my friends started noticing that my anxiety "went away". Since than living with anxiety has been doable for me. I feel I can manage it. I feel I have control over my anxiety. My grades went up because I was able to focus on school and not anxiety. My friends and I created a closer bond because once again I was able to focus on us and not the anxiety. Everything was becoming clear to me. Everyone has their own way of handling anxiety. • 7. Narrative Essay Examples Narrative Essay As times goes on you, realize life isn't all it seems to be. You learn life lessons and certain life events teach you things that can lead to you improving yourself as a person. As you realize most things in life are provided to you, you never truly realize how much everything can mean. As teenagers most of us are immature and do not realize how easy it is for us to lose everything we have. As we could lose everything and anything in a matter of seconds if we are not careful. It was another typical Monday morning, I had that same feeling I always do when I wake up, dreadly having to get up, use the bathroom, and brush my teeth and get ready for school. It is the same process throughout the whole week until Friday....show more content... The next week was a breeze and it comes down to the night before I had already packed all my stuff that night I was told of the trip. Next morning I woke up bright and early ate breakfast and we headed to the airport. The next few hours were mostly just traveling typical airplane food, only thing that was interesting about the travel was the fact that during one of flights I was sat beside a drunk idiot and then got moved up a few seats and got 3 seats all to myself! When we finally landed in Pakistan it did not look anything different than in Canada. I thought "oh well maybe it looks the same, and is the same" because personally I didn't know much about this place other than the fact I had family here. When we got all our stuff and headed out in a car I noticed nothing different but that might have been due to the fact I was kind of fatigued and the fact we were in a bigger city. On the travel to my cousins I fell asleep, and didn't get woken up until we reached their house. When I got out of the car I was too tired and was way to jetlagged to realize how different things were so I went straight into the house and went back to bed. I mostly slept for the whole first day. As I woke up by my family, they invited me to go out and try out some of the local foods as everything here was very fresh down to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Personal Narrative Carleigh Grupe Professor Schnell English 1301 9 September 2015 Personal Narrative – Rough Draft The lake glistened before me as my mom and I pulled into Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp just outside Twin Lakes Michigan. I had been accepted into the International Youth SymphonyOrchestra program where after spending a week at the camp the entire orchestra would be heading off on a six week European Tour to share our musical talents and American culture with another part of the world. I knew traveling to a different continent would give me further insight as to who I was a person, but did not imagine the people I would meet would impact me as much as they did. His name was Alex Peabody, a 16 year old junior from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Although we weren't best friends, we were still close with one another throughout the tour. He had messy brown hair that framed his round face and always wore a big flashy smile. One of my favorite moments with him was while we were waiting to board the bus to go the the airport. While we sat waiting, I was practicing my flute in preparation for our first concert in France. Many of the other students were practicing, talking, giggling, or sharing newly found favorite songs with their friends. The noise was deafening and created a carnival of sound that grew louder with each passing minute. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Alex, a cello player, watching me practice, his eyes bright with fascination. "Alex, do you know how to play flute?" I called to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. My Fear- Personal Narrative Essay My Fear– Personal Narrative Every child, teenager and adult has experienced anxiety, fear or worry at some time in their lives. Everyone has their own phobias. Some are just temporary whereas others just linger, haunting them forever. Life allows us each of us to experience challenges in our own way. But when these challenges become almost impossible to complete, they become long term problems. When faced with fear, one looks for the easiest route out, but in my case, there were no signposts. There is one part of my life that I vividly recall. I don't really know when or how it started. Maybe I'd had it all my life or maybe it developed at a certain age. Perhaps, that will remain an unsolved...show more content... I didn't know why this was happening and felt that I had no control over my thoughts or fears. By this stage, I would have persistent nightmares of my house burning down where everyone in the building would escape, with the exception of me. I remember how I felt after being awoken by the fear of death. It was a feeling of confusion and I didn't know why this was happening. My phobia totally disabled me and at the time I found it difficult to relax. I live alone with my mum and she was unaware of what I was secretly going through. At the time, I never really opened my eyes to the fact that I had a problem. I told myself that it was just a phase and that I was fine but deep down I think I always knew that this was untrue. Another habit of mine was counting syllables of words. Whenever I would see a shop sign I would count the syllables of the words written and would ensure that the number of syllables did not exceed sixteen (my favourite number). One evening, a friend of mine had visited my home for dinner and I could do nothing but worry about the food overcooking and causing a fire. It would not leave my mind and was all that I could think of. That is when I noticed that my actions were odd. I almost immediately logged on to the internet and searched for fire related obsessions. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me. I want to be a positive influence in the lives of children. I want to be able to stand up and show the children that it is okay to be yourself and stand up for what you believe in. I am a well round student. For nine years I was actively involved in a girls organization. This experience taught me many things. We were actively involved in community service activities, for which I received the Silver Award. ( The second highest award in the organization.) I learned about the value of friendship and patients with others. This organization first introduced me to my future career. I was also involved for three and a half years in a student government club on campus. In this club I learned many life lessons. One of which was the value of hard work. I was one of the few people that organized the Junior/Senior Prom of 2000. My responsibilities included planning corranation, buying and organizing decorations, planning the busing schedule, booking the photographers, fundraising, ect. This taught me about hard work. But the best part of it was going to Prom knowing I was one of the only reasons that it happened. As far as school goes, my schedule is very diverse. I am taking child development lab, which is a class where students from my high school can go to the local elementary schools and work one on one with the students. I have work in the elementary school for two and a half years. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Achieving A Personal Goal In the beginning of the semester, I felt a little annoyed that I had to plan a personal goal. I was afraid that I was going to fail once again during the journey of losing weight. My personal goal was to lose five pounds by April 1, 2016. I had planned to achieve this goal by eating healthier snacks, exercising, and meal prepping. Trying to achieve this goal was not easy. I had a constant temptation of breaking my diet and I kept trying to buy fast food whenever I saw myself tight with my school and work schedule. However, I was able to achieve my goal because I was meal prepping every night, I kept an alarm on my phone to remind me when I should be exercising, I read articles that provided me with a list of healthy foods, I carried a picture...show more content... Prior to my freshman year, I was homeschooled. The school feels really big at the time and it's very overwhelming. As I walk around I see people hugging, reuniting, and saying, "oh my gosh I have missed you!" All I am worrying about is what people are thinking of me like, does she have any friends, or she looks like a loner. I am getting nervous and more nervous every second that passes. I didn't have to worry where I was going to sit that period, or who I was going to talk to. I probably looked like the happiest person in the world with a big smile on my face. As I am smiling as I say, "hello, Claire right?" She says, "Yes!" We sit together, exchange social media usernames, and numbers. Later, I go to 6th period, my science class. When we come in the teacher says to talk with people to sit in alphabetical order. I am placed next to a kid named Dominic Thomas, and his buddy is sitting on the other side of me. They were acting like I didn't exist, and getting in my personal space. Later, the teacher says, "The person sitting at your table will be your lab partner." That's when I found out Dominic Thomas will be my lab partner for the quarter. I did not know what was coming for me. Finally, 7th period here I come. Now this class was one crazy class, with some crazy people, but it was all good because I get to leave after this period. The bell rings and I am out of there. I knew I was in for a dark journey home. I had decided that by traveling through the forest would be the quickest way home. Minutes passed, yet it seemed like hours and days. The farther I traveled into the forest, the darker it seemed to get. I was very had to even take a breath due to the stifling air. The only sound familiar to me was the quickening beat of my own heart, which felt as though it was about to come through my chest. I would never get home at this rate. The same moment I decided to quicken my speed, a deer burst through the night. I screamed, stumbled and hit the ground with a loud thump. I sat on the moist ground for a moment to try to recover but my heart began to throb as if it was beating within my throat. It was just a deer I told myself, I had to be brave. Trying to get myself together I began to feel this hot puffs of air on the back of my neck. "It's the goblin!" I screamed as I rapidly rose to my feet. My head spun like an owl as I went to look for what was behind me. I looked to the ground and discovered a little white dog. "You scared me to death little guy. What is a cute little puppy like you doing in a dense forest like this?" I said to him. I was relieved it was only a dog instead of the ghastly goblin, but I only made it half–way home by then. As I proceeded on the white little dog followed me. I felt more at ease now that I had him following me but he would not be considered much of a watch dog to most Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Relationship Narrative: Personal Narrative Essay The fairy tales say that once upon a time a girl met a boy; they fell in love, and lived happily ever after. Reality is not that simple. Long–term relationships force couples to get to know each other, involve themselves in each others' worlds, fight through the hard times, and eventually develop deeper connections through distinctive stages of Knapp's relationship model. Although I have dated the same person for over two years, the stages of our communication make it seem as though I am now dating a different person following dissolution and subsequent repair. However, even the most exhilarating of roller coaster rides develop through a combination of ups and downs, much like the stages of a relationship. Initial contact came the...show more content... After our relationship moved beyond involvement, his protective instincts overpowered everything. I actually welcomed this protection as a sign of his caring for me since I always wanted a guy to protect me from conflict, just like in the movies. However, this overprotection stifled me and made me feel guilty whenever my communications with another guy made John jealous and angry. He tested my feelings for him by making me feel guilty about even looking in the direction of other guys. At the time, I ignored his jealousy because my strong feelings for him overshadowed my own needs as an individual. Looking back, I realize our involvement actually intensified, for the better and the worse. John evolved into my best friend and, wrapping myself in his world, I lost my core group of friends. We had reached interpersonal commitment. All of my time belonged to John. We went to events and hung out according to his time frame, with little consideration for my time. All John needed to say was "no, I don't want to do that," and I respected his decision. Looking back, I realize how little John respected me. Our relationship grew in predictability as we learned each other's schedules, emotions, and family habits. Dates always went the same way, involving dinner with his family followed by a rented movie. Our interactions never involved social bonding beyond our families. Instead, moments of novelty, like rock Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Essay on Sports Narrative Tyler Douglas Professor Thamm Eng 101–10:00 a.m. Due: Sep. 29, 2008 Essay #1 Narrative A major role in my life would definitely be sports. It is almost as if I look up to sports because I could not live without them. Sports pretty much define me as me. I love to play sports as well as watch all kinds of sports on T.V. and if I could ever go to a game and watch the players play live I would be thrilled. Basically sports define me because I am ambitious, I finish what I start, I set goals for myself, and I am a fierce competitor in which I love to win and I hate to lose. The greatest part about sports to me is living for the moment when the game is on the line and the pressure is on can you come through and make a play for your...show more content... With the game tied 6–6 that is when I went into my own little zone and was in my moment. The crowed was electrified and cheering us on. I thought about all the hard work the coaches put us through doing two a days and keeping us late after a hard practice, spending all of that time and hard work just for this one little moment when the game was on the line. Back to reality our quarterback had started the play and it looked like it was going nowhere and we might have to got into overtime. Then after about 6 crazy seconds he threw the ball to our halfback and he broke a couple tackles and the somehow stretched across the goal line by about 2 inches and we had taken the lead 8–6 with 52 seconds to go. When the game clock hit 00:00 for the first time in our schools history the football team had beaten Aberdeen and none of us could believe it. This was a special moment. Now, it was in this moment when I had realized that sports define me as me because we never gave up, none of us wanted to lose, we set a goal and completed it, but most important we kept our eye on the prize and came through in the moment when the game was on the line. Nobody is going to remember how many games we won or who the best player on the team was that season, but I guarantee what people will remember is when we had beaten Aberdeen for the first time in school Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Essay about My Birth Story My Birth Story A baby's life helps to form and shape the future for that child; this goes the same for me. My birth, my sign, and my name, all relate to the way I live and act today. Many people may not see this connection for themselves, but it takes a little bit of research and thinking to come to realize why people are the way they are. Every day and every action that a child experiences can influence their actions as an adult. I was born on a Monday morning at 5:33. Although my mother was not in labor for long, she did take her time getting to the hospital to give birth. I was born on April 23, 1984, the day after Easter as a Taurus. In general, Taurus' are stubborn people and can bring harmony from chaos. Taurean women...show more content... I am adjusting like any child would to their new surroundings, and getting used to daily life as a college student. I came to NAU alone, much like I was born an only child. However, in the next year, I know I will make friends and meet people to enjoy college life with, much like when my brother was born, I had a new playmate and someone to grow with. Taureans are also known to have very strong opinions and a strong voice. All through middle school, my voice wasn't always used for academics; all my report cards said: "...She's a good student, but has a tendency to socialize too much during class". Throughout high school, my teachers have been able to tell when I haven't done my homework because I didn't have anything to say about the book or the article we read. I was known to be social occasionally and a strong voice in every debate or discussion that took part during the class. My Bioethics teacher once told me "...Cammy, give someone else a chance, you're monopolizing the class" I was a little shocked, but I knew she was right and shut up. As a Taurus, I also have an inclination to make sure people are taken care of, especially in my own home or my "territory." Although I don't host many parties, when I do haveguests, I like to be sure that they are comfortable and have everything they need. For example, about a week ago, my roommate and I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Descriptive Essay About My Morning This morning I woke up, the same as everyday stretching my legs off my bed and onto the floor, my arms raised up grazing the ceiling. As any other day, I got out of bed and waltzed into the kitchen where I could smell the aroma of coffee being freshly brewed. My mother was up, bright and early fixing breakfast for my father who leaves everyday for work promptly at 7:00am. I am not a morning person, but today the smell of that coffee woke me with ease. If this were any other day, I wouldn 't have woken so easily. For some reason this day didn 't really feel like every other day. My mother, and I have a decent relationship. You could say we have a normal mother daughter relationship comparable to anyone else. We go shopping, to...show more content... I walk to school alone everyday, and that is okay with me because I enjoy the peace, and quite. As I walk I think about how I can't wait to get to school, but I also think about how when I get to school I know that every minute that passes is a minute closer to me being back at home. It is a shame that I think this way. It's a shame because I love my mother, and my father ruins that for me. In a perfect world I would go home to just my mother, and wouldn 't have to worry about the hatred that my father endures towards my family, and for no reason at that. With all these thoughts rushing through my head, I finally realize that I have been daydreaming so long that I am no longer walking, but I am at a halt in front of the main entrance of my high school. I say to myself aloud, "If I go in that means I am roughly eight hours from being back at home." Instead of entering the school I immediately turn around to walk back to my house. Nobody is there during the day so that means I can actually enjoy being home without the worry of anyone belittling myself or my mother. My walking now turns into a light jog, as for once I am excited about the idea of being home. Finally I am approaching the driveway to my house where I see a strange car parked in front of the garage door. The car appeared to be an old van painted in a dark matte greenish color. The wheels looked worn as if they have maybe been changed once in the cars lifetime, and the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. My Literacy Narrative My literacy narrative focused on an event, which changed my perspective towards reading. This event revolved around my life and later resulted in a better version of myself. It was about a competition for which I appeared during my freshman year in high school. There were some key points, which I noticed while working on my literacy narrative. Throughout my work, I enjoyed the ways of employing the five authentic skills that enriched my narrative with not just my words, but also with my emotions that are associated to it. While working on my narrative, I observed several factors including obstacles, thereby making it harder to produce a unique, quality work. The first one was the incompetence to choose a topic. • 20. Examples Of Narrative Writing Exemplar Narrative Writing Exemplar Our family had been meeting together every Wednesday night for the last two months. We had picked out a hotel, booked our flight, and ordered our tickets for the parks. We scheduled care takers for our pets and packed our belongings. We were ready! Now, we were off to our dream vacation in Orlando, Florida. It was three o'clock in the morning, and we were all still really tired, but we were also really excited. We packed everything in our GMC van and headed for my grandmother's house. We had made arrangements to leave our van at her house so that we would not have to pay for parking at the airport. The limo would pick us up at my grandmother's house in Saint John and drive us to Gary Regional Airport so that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
