My College Experience Essay examples
My College Experience
Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and
explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior
year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard
people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully
understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at
Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and
obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a

I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the
teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not
the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an
assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These
were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the
most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the
confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time
had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately
began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These
factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I
learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize
myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead
of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my
back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced
them. I believe this experience was the reason for my

Saying Goodbye Essay
I never thought this day would come. I mean, I did know it was coming, but I just never thought
it would be this soon. Since birth, Lina has been my older sister, my companion, my confidant,
and moreover, my best friend. As years passed, I acknowledged that we were getting older, and
that the date of her departure was getting closer, yet, I did not want to believe it. Since last year,
she had been in the exhausting process of applying to universities, and by the end of May, the
University of New Orleans (UNO) granted her with a generous scholarship. With a smile full of
pride and amazement, she accepted the scholarship and reserved her space in the Psychology field
in the UNO. Overshadowed by the great news of her scholarship, we failed to...show more content...
Suddenly, she stood up and a warm smile lightened her face. Her eyes shone with excitement as her
three best friends approached her. They talked and laughed zealously; they joked as if they had
forgotten what was about to happen in less than an hour. I could not help myself from watching
her. Her smile was genuine and her sight deep. Her voice was melodic while she recounted all the
anecdotes the four girls had shared for six long years. She moved her hands while she talked and
showed her perfectly white teeth while she laughed. There was no fear in her face, just a spark of
adventure glistened at the corner of her eyes. She was about to undertake a journey to the small
state of Louisiana, to the beautiful jazz city of New Orleans, and even at the verge of starting a
new life on her own, she showed no signs of anxiety or uneasiness. There were so many reasons
why not to cry: she was happy, she was young, she had a great opportunity to study abroad,
something not everyone has, and many more that would take me a whole day to mention.
However, I only needed one reason why to cry: I would no longer have her by my side. As a
tremendous storm, an urge of crying overwhelmed me, and all I could do was to sit down, hide my
face in my hands and let my emotions overpower me. She looked at me and frowned. I knew it hurt
her to see me that way, but I couldn't stop. She came near me and hugged me, without saying a word.

College Essay : An Ideal College
An Essay on An Ideal College
Everyone has or should have an ideal; something which he can look forward to, of which he may
dream, and for which he may strive. In our colleges we come across many defects or limitations.
We often discuss these among ourselves. And in course of these discussions, and as a result of
them, we come to cherish a vague notion of what would be an ideal college, at last, what we would
regard as an ideal. Here of course I speak mostly for myself.
An ideal college, in my opinion, should consist of a building with well–lighted and spacious rooms,
an extensive playground, well–equipped libraries and laboratories, and learned teachers. These are
essential, and so I will discuss these first.
On the academic side an ideal college should have two kinds of rooms: lecture–rooms and tutorial
rooms. Lecture–rooms should be large enough to accommodate even two to three hundred students
without crowding. In these days of amplifiers, large classes should offer no real difficulty. Only
three must be plenty of light and air to prevent stuffiness. The acoustic arrangements must be such
as to put no undue strain on a lecturer's voice. Tutorial rooms should be spacious enough to
accommodate small classes of ten or fifteen students. Too many lectures are apt to become
monotonous and boring. It would be deal if the ground covered by a lecture broadly is once again
reviewed in the tutorial classes in greater detail and with an eye to individual difficulties of students.

Successful Student Essay
Characteristics of a Successful Student.
Are you a student who wants to be successful? All people can be good successful students, if they
try hard and use self discipline to push them self harder. Being a successful student doesn't mean
you are so smart you get to skip grades, it just means that you get good marks, work well with
others, and don't get held back any grades. If you are a person who wants to keep your life on track,
it takes hard work, determination, and patience.
Being a successful student may involve some of the characteristics such as: organization, time,
studying, and believing you can achieve.
Organization means using your space wisely. Using things like computers to hold lots of information

Studying skills will help you be more successful as well, there is also to much studying. To much
studying can cause stress, and dense learning habits, also pushing your self to hard may ruin
learning skills and cause your self to feel bad, or not as intelligent. Study skills for tests, quizzes,
and exams is very important. Evenly spreading out study time will increase memory of the
subjects you learn. Taking frequent breaks will make studying less stressful. Using flash cards,
web sites, computers, or just a pencil and paper are all great ways to study. Having an answer sheet
to refer to, and look over when your done will also help study and learning skills because it can help
you see what you did wrong and need to fix. Having a study group or club before big tests, like
exams or diplomas, will help you have more fun with your friends when studying.
Also study at home with adults to help you. Having friends to study with will increase your
enjoyment of learning, and learning to learn. Doing homework right after you get home from school
is good because you might still remember what to do and what you need to study. Doing
homework in the morning can make it less likely for you to sleep or enjoy your day. If you enjoy
writing or reading a job may be based on writing in a future date, but if you dislike reading you
might want a job such as a doctor.

Reflective Essay on College Writing
Reflective Essay on College Writing
This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the
semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up
to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually
demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college
has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a
thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the timerestraints are
not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free

I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all
until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the
endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite
section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the
most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just
how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many
levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery
in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical
with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from
that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place.
The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I
began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and
looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very
useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles
dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and find numerous

Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather
it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in
life. There is a saying, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." You may ask is college
necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus
before and they are doing better than others that have their master's degree. There are many views
from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is because they
were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. Kids are pressured to feel that the

They do not want to be looked down upon in the eyes of society so they do what they think is
best. The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of
college education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a
garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going
to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after
they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so
much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in
a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off
all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of
time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes
that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education
requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel
is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a
good job. College prepares us with academic knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Many
people think that a higher education is essential to prepare a person for their future. As

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the
whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for
navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I
have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in
English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

It provides millions of opportunities to become educated. In many other countries, education is
prohibited, especially to women. It is important to take advantage of these prospects that our country
has given us and make the most of our educational experience, and eventually make the most of our
careers. The United States provides us with scholarships, financial aid, and community colleges to
get around the high cost of education. These benefits are given to us so that more and more educated
Americans can contribute to our society.
In the near future, I expect to gain many important aspects from my college education. The first
and most important thing I hope to gain from this experience is independence. In my opinion,
having a successful career of your own is one of the best things you can accomplish. The best
matter to never have to worry about, is depending on other people. You never know what will
happen to you in the future. You always want something to fall back on something and a college
diploma is the perfect answer. The last component that I hope to gain from college is a great life
experience that I will never forget. This is only my first semester as a freshman, but I can already
predict that college is going to give me all of these gifts.
In Alice Walker's Everyday Use, Walker seems to view a college education as a good thing in
certain situations. If you go to college, you will experience new things, become a better person, but

How will college change my life
"How will college change my life?" Colleges are institutions of higher learning; I would go to
college simply to make more money. College could be described as a rite of passage, where future
working men and women step out from sheltered childhood lives into an independent place of
learning. It is different from the original schooling most children receive as there is a more in–depth
workload that requires more studying. College will change my life as I am open to many fields of
study, expanding my mind and giving a glimpse of what to expect when I step out into the working
world. Flexibility with learning and providing me with the option to choose what interests me, being

As college students, we as students must have a fierce ambition to accomplish a balance between
a healthy, steady social life and a bright academic future. Communication is an important tool in
life, not just inside college that broadens our horizons and makes us more intelligent generally.
The future working men and women who enter college are adults and will be treated as such. An
adult is one who has matured to know what is right and what is wrong. The importance of a rule
is a line between right and wrong that many places including colleges have as a guiding tool.
College students who enter are expected to follow rules as the rules are meant to protect us and set
a guideline. Adults also know how to be self–sufficient, being able to do their work, without anyone's
help or stealing someone else's work: plagiarism. College is where we are expected to perform to the
best of our abilities because as students we have a fierce ambition to get ahead by earning a degree.
College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I'm an adult and
expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to
me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a
chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. College will change my life in the way that I can

How to Choose a College Major (Process Essay)
How to Choose a College Major
At some point in the process of choosing a college, you may have to choose a college major, or at
the very least begin to narrow your options. While being undecided for awhile is fine, you
probably want to have some idea of what you want to do when you start the college application
process. You want to make sure you make the right college choice, and there's nothing worse than
finding your dream school only to realize it doesn't offer the major you've ultimately chosen. Even
though you know you can't put it off forever, choosing your major can be tough.
When it's time to starting making solid decisions about enrolling in college, many people have
questions about how to choose a college major. Selecting a...show more content...

what you like and dislike from your past work experience? * Are there in–demand career fields in

Think About Careers
The answers to these questions can help guide your selection of a college major. For example, if
you held part time positions in retail while in high school and you absolutely hated the work, you can
immediately scratch retail management off your list. However, if you enjoyed the part of the job
that involved setting up product displays, you might seriously want to consider a major in visual
merchandising.
The college major that you select impacts the types of jobs you will be qualified for upon graduation.
Don't Panic
Selecting a college major is an important decision, and it is not one that should be made lightly. It is
important to remember, however, that declaring a major is not an irreversible decision. It is not
uncommon for college students to change majors one or more times after they enroll in college.
Sometimes, you need time, research, and reflection before you can choose a college major. Setting
college goals can help you, as can understanding different college majors and how they can move
you closer to your goals. Do your research, keep an open mind, and be honest with yourself, and
you can choose a college major that

My College English Class and What I learned
The course definitely changed the way I approached writing a paper. One day in lecture you quoted
Ernest Hemmingway saying, "The first draft of anything is shit." This changed the way I
approached and wrote papers. I used to start papers the night before, barely look over them and
making few changes. This course encouraged me to outline, write a rough draft and constantly
review then finalization the paper. Peer review before this class I though was pointless because
most student hardly pay attention to the paper and usually wrote "good job." The students in the
class actually read my paper and gave honest feedback and ways to improve it. Also to have a
teacher read your draft and give feedback with what is wrong and ways to help the quality of the
paper helped greatly. This English class was definitely different than high school English.
College English class was very different than high school English class. In high school there was
not much emphasis on proper headings and titles. If we had correct name, date and title, the teacher
would not care about the parts such as page number and margins. In high school we read more
books but mainly paid attention to the sequence of events and put pieces of the story together and
not go into detail about tone, point of view or persuasion in the book. High school papers were
around 2–3 pages, but in college most of them are 6 or longer. Citing after a sentence is much more
stressed in college and plagiarism is taken much more

College Success
What does it mean to be successful? Many people look at the word success from different views.
The dictionary defines success in two ways: the accomplishment of one's goals and then the
attainment of wealth or position. I believe you can be successful in two ways as well: you can be
successful in your career and you can be successful by doing what makes you happy and living a
fulfilling life to your standards. You don't have to have a huge mansion on top of a private hill
looking over the ocean to be defined as successful. When asked what it takes to be successful in
college, that's a different story. To be successful in college is to reach your academic goals in a
productive way. I am in college to obtain a...show more content...
Another vital skill that will help me to succeed in college is to have good communication with
professors. I chose this skill because your instructors are your most important resource through your
college years. Mastering this skill will help me with just about anything; keeping up with grades,
going over questions that I have on the homework assignment so that I don't make the same mistake
on the test. Professors can be your friend if you let them. They really are there to help you succeed.
In "Student Guide to First–Year Composition" Sugie Goen–Salter writes, "When you are a student in
a first–year composition course, your instructor is your most important resource."(50) Goen–Salter is
saying that you have many resources in college but your main one will be your instructor. You
can use them as a learning tool or even as someone to just talk to. I'd much rather my professors
be my friend or at least know me by name and face rather than not know who I am. I will talk to
my professors about anything; the weather, how their day is going, what they had for breakfast,
etc. The purpose of your instructor is to be your guide along this journey of life. If I keep in good
contact with my professors I will never be unsure about what is being asked of me. Sugie
Goen–Salter also writes, "Office hours and your instructor's office location will be listed on your

Persuasive Essay On College Education
College education will serve as a basis for someone's lifestyle if they work for it. This will open up
doors and release opportunities for individuals that want it. College graduates will gain more
intelligence than those that have only graduated high school. This type of constructionism will only
work if students have a motive to be successful. The price of a four–year degree is quite valuable.
College graduates have been proven to gain more money, learn an abundance of skills, and embrace
diversity.
To begin, college education has benefits that could go on forever. One of those advantages is the
amount of money college graduates earn. In the article called "Is College Worth It? Clearly, New
Data Say," by David Leonhardt, it describes the outcomes of having a degree and the assistance
behind that. The future of a human being depends on the financial support. As mentioned in the
text, "The pay gap between college graduates and everyone else reached a record high last year,"
(1). When jobs look at someone, it will become dependent upon past achievements or downfalls.
People will accept a person with a four–year degree over someone without college experience.
Individuals that gain more money, were most likely taught in college.
In opposition, student debt from college can create long years of struggling issues. Students may feel
like this is a disadvantage. According to the article, it mentions, "Among four–year college graduates
who took out loans, average debt is about

Campus Descriptive Essay
West Virginia University has hands down the most gorgeous campus I have ever seen. Every

classmates walking to class and going about their days. Stretching and yawning I prepare myself for

my surroundings. A strong breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass to my nose and embraced
me as I continued my journey to class. Passing several students on my way, nodding my head in

The Pros And Cons Of College Writing
Why do some college freshmen find it harder to write an essay in college than in high school?"
College freshmen usually struggle with the transition from high school writing to college writing.

the difficulties they face to write an essay are grammatic errors, punctuations, sentence structure, and

So far, the college experience has made me a changed person. College changed me into a better

First off, the college life has changed me for the better. I am much more responsible in many

it has to deal with getting up early in the morning to go to class, you have your parents or anyone to
wake you up, it's a big step, you just have to stay focus.
Third of all, you have to change your attitude toward school. You have to want to finish school;
you have to think about the money you are spending to go to school. For example you are paying
for every class you take and if you fail a class then you are paying for the same class again. College

My Experience In A College Class
"Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs.
Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college
course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills
was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but
this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences,
but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The
reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about
how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the firstessay
approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing
insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make
myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the
yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to
improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to
dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I
took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and
realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I

How to be a Good College Student Essay
How to be a Good College Student
College is a competitive environment; in order to succeed in it a student needs certain skills. Those
skills can only be learned. A college professor mentioned that there five basic rules that need to be
followed in order to become a good student: study, do all the homework and the assigned reading,
attend class, and, most importantly, develop self–discipline and time management 1. In the following
lines, a detailed analysis of those different steps will be done. So, let's get started. First, we
mentioned study. A good student has to do study everyday. Study involves reading thetextbooks,
understand them, be able to explain it to others and sometimes memorize the most important
concepts. As a...show more content...
The textbooks are usually large. The lecture giving by the teacher usually is a summary of the
textbook. When revising for the exam, it will be a lot easier for the student to cover the material.
Finally, we also mentioned the importance of time management and self–discipline. A student will
manage very well his/her time by identifying best time for studying, using distributed learning and
practice means study in shorter time blocks with shorts breaks between, reducing distractions which
can waste time, making room for entertainment and relaxation, making sure there is time to sleep
and eat properly and try to combine activities. For example, if a student is spending time in the
Laundromat, he/she can bring his psychology book to read. Managing time takes self discipline.
The same professor cited before said that "people who seem to have less difficulty with
self–discipline probably have simply had more practice at it". So, practice is what it takes to have
self–discipline.
In conclusion, it is clear that being a good college student is not an easy task. It required good study
habit, class attendance, time management and self–discipline. It is not easy but it worth the hard
work. Because, as Jerome R. Breitenbach wrote, "the education you receive in college, and the
attitude you develop, will guide you for the rest of your life. Your grades will be especially
important in landing your first job, or when applying to graduate

How to Succeed in College Essay
How to Succeed in College
College 101 has been a very informative class. It has taught me a lot about college and the changes
you have to make while attending college. I learned a lot about certain programs that the school
offers, I knew nothing about these programs before I took this class and I probably never would
have known anything about them if I never would have taken this class. In this class I have learned
about three important concepts that can be very useful throughout my college years to come. I think
time management, determining values and balancing lifestyles are the three most important concepts
you need to help you succeed in college.
I think planning a day to day schedule of the things you have to do is very...show more content...
Some people value education and material things while others value religion and spirituality. You
have to identify the values that are going to make you happy because if you don't you may try to
accomplish things to make other people happy. Having values helps you to determine where you
want to go in life and the decisions you make. If you value something you are pretty much going
to base every thing you do around that. Having values makes you a unique person because it has a
big impact on the choices you make and the lifestyle you live. One thing you have to value is
college because if you don't value it you won't succeed in it because you don't care what you do and
you won't achieve anything.
Balancing your lifestyle while in college is very difficult because if you have a lot on your plate
like children or other important responsibilities it's hard to balance them all and attend college. I
think this has a lot to do with time management because when making a schedule you have to put
your family or other responsibilities in that schedule and make time for everything. Some people
work full time and go to school full time and if you have a lot of things to deal with you will burn
out from the stress that such a pace imposes on your mind and body. If you work less and eliminate
some things than you will have more time while in college.
In conclusion I really have learned a lot in this class and really has helped me to manage my time
better

How to Be A Good Student Essay
How to Be A Good Student
To become a success in life, we all need to learn to become a good student in every aspect of life.
Becoming a good student takes much work and self–discipline. There are many ways that a student
can stand out from the rest of the class. These good students are distinguished by their attitude,
intellectual skills, consciousness, and achievement.
Attitude is primarily a genuine desire to learn and the will to do hard academic work to achieve
understanding. It is also shown by how well you apply yourself even to subjects in which you have
little interest and how much you can achieve even when a teacher's style is not what you are used to.
Also attitude can change the way you percieveperceive things...show more content...
No one else can help you to attain a good attitude, you must decide and make it a goal to have a
good attitude in your student life. (CS)
Intellectual skills is (S–V Agr) another important aspect of becoming a good student. This skill
includes the ability to read and understand, intelligent use of resources, mathematical and logical
skills, efficient study habits, and the ability to communicate clearly and fluently. Intellectual skills
include time management, exam strategies, study strategies, and goal setting.
Consciousness, or awareness, is another helpful aspect of becoming a good student. The good
student must be aware of their (agr) surroundings and know what is going on in the world around
them. We must strive to relate what is happening around us to what we are learning. This should be
important to us because we should care about what is going on politically, academically, socially,
and spiritually. Being aware and paying attention is a good trait to continually learn and apply.
Achievement is demonstrated by successful application of understanding. This aspect includes using
correct and confident knowledge, effective communication, and continuanceing of education through
out your life. Achievement gives you a sense of accomplishment and meaning. To become a good
student, this must be a goal that you wish to accomplish.
Becoming a good student can be time consuming but well worth

How To Write A Good Essay In College

  • 1. My College Experience Essay examples My College Experience Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a sudden there was no one to get me out of...show more content... I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced them. I believe this experience was the reason for my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Saying Goodbye Essay I never thought this day would come. I mean, I did know it was coming, but I just never thought it would be this soon. Since birth, Lina has been my older sister, my companion, my confidant, and moreover, my best friend. As years passed, I acknowledged that we were getting older, and that the date of her departure was getting closer, yet, I did not want to believe it. Since last year, she had been in the exhausting process of applying to universities, and by the end of May, the University of New Orleans (UNO) granted her with a generous scholarship. With a smile full of pride and amazement, she accepted the scholarship and reserved her space in the Psychology field in the UNO. Overshadowed by the great news of her scholarship, we failed to...show more content... Suddenly, she stood up and a warm smile lightened her face. Her eyes shone with excitement as her three best friends approached her. They talked and laughed zealously; they joked as if they had forgotten what was about to happen in less than an hour. I could not help myself from watching her. Her smile was genuine and her sight deep. Her voice was melodic while she recounted all the anecdotes the four girls had shared for six long years. She moved her hands while she talked and showed her perfectly white teeth while she laughed. There was no fear in her face, just a spark of adventure glistened at the corner of her eyes. She was about to undertake a journey to the small state of Louisiana, to the beautiful jazz city of New Orleans, and even at the verge of starting a new life on her own, she showed no signs of anxiety or uneasiness. There were so many reasons why not to cry: she was happy, she was young, she had a great opportunity to study abroad, something not everyone has, and many more that would take me a whole day to mention. However, I only needed one reason why to cry: I would no longer have her by my side. As a tremendous storm, an urge of crying overwhelmed me, and all I could do was to sit down, hide my face in my hands and let my emotions overpower me. She looked at me and frowned. I knew it hurt her to see me that way, but I couldn't stop. She came near me and hugged me, without saying a word. What Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. College Essay : An Ideal College An Essay on An Ideal College Everyone has or should have an ideal; something which he can look forward to, of which he may dream, and for which he may strive. In our colleges we come across many defects or limitations. We often discuss these among ourselves. And in course of these discussions, and as a result of them, we come to cherish a vague notion of what would be an ideal college, at last, what we would regard as an ideal. Here of course I speak mostly for myself. An ideal college, in my opinion, should consist of a building with well–lighted and spacious rooms, an extensive playground, well–equipped libraries and laboratories, and learned teachers. These are essential, and so I will discuss these first. On the academic side an ideal college should have two kinds of rooms: lecture–rooms and tutorial rooms. Lecture–rooms should be large enough to accommodate even two to three hundred students without crowding. In these days of amplifiers, large classes should offer no real difficulty. Only three must be plenty of light and air to prevent stuffiness. The acoustic arrangements must be such as to put no undue strain on a lecturer's voice. Tutorial rooms should be spacious enough to accommodate small classes of ten or fifteen students. Too many lectures are apt to become monotonous and boring. It would be deal if the ground covered by a lecture broadly is once again reviewed in the tutorial classes in greater detail and with an eye to individual difficulties of students. All people can be good successful students, if they try hard and use self discipline to push them self harder. Being a successful student doesn't mean you are so smart you get to skip grades, it just means that you get good marks, work well with others, and don't get held back any grades. If you are a person who wants to keep your life on track, it takes hard work, determination, and patience. To much studying can cause stress, and dense learning habits, also pushing your self to hard may ruin learning skills and cause your self to feel bad, or not as intelligent. Study skills for tests, quizzes, and exams is very important. Evenly spreading out study time will increase memory of the subjects you learn. Taking frequent breaks will make studying less stressful. Using flash cards, web sites, computers, or just a pencil and paper are all great ways to study. Having an answer sheet to refer to, and look over when your done will also help study and learning skills because it can help you see what you did wrong and need to fix. Having a study group or club before big tests, like exams or diplomas, will help you have more fun with your friends when studying. Also study at home with adults to help you. Having friends to study with will increase your enjoyment of learning, and learning to learn. Doing homework right after you get home from school is good because you might still remember what to do and what you need to study. Doing homework in the morning can make it less likely for you to sleep or enjoy your day. • 5. Reflective Essay on College Writing Reflective Essay on College Writing This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the timerestraints are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I...show more content... I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place. The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles dealing with my topic. • 6. Pros and Cons of Attending College Essay examples Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in life. There is a saying, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." You may ask is college necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus before and they are doing better than others that have their master's degree. There are many views from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is because they were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. Kids are pressured to feel that the have to go to college because, "it...show more content... They do not want to be looked down upon in the eyes of society so they do what they think is best. The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of college education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a good job. College prepares us with academic knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Many people think that a higher education is essential to prepare a person for their future. • 7. Reflection On My English 101 Experience Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. It provides millions of opportunities to become educated. In many other countries, education is prohibited, especially to women. It is important to take advantage of these prospects that our country has given us and make the most of our educational experience, and eventually make the most of our careers. The United States provides us with scholarships, financial aid, and community colleges to get around the high cost of education. These benefits are given to us so that more and more educated Americans can contribute to our society. In the near future, I expect to gain many important aspects from my college education. The first and most important thing I hope to gain from this experience is independence. In my opinion, having a successful career of your own is one of the best things you can accomplish. The best matter to never have to worry about, is depending on other people. You never know what will happen to you in the future. You always want something to fall back on something and a college diploma is the perfect answer. The last component that I hope to gain from college is a great life experience that I will never forget. This is only my first semester as a freshman, but I can already predict that college is going to give me all of these gifts. In Alice Walker's Everyday Use, Walker seems to view a college education as a good thing in certain situations. College could be described as a rite of passage, where future working men and women step out from sheltered childhood lives into an independent place of learning. It is different from the original schooling most children receive as there is a more in–depth workload that requires more studying. College will change my life as I am open to many fields of study, expanding my mind and giving a glimpse of what to expect when I step out into the working world. Communication is an important tool in life, not just inside college that broadens our horizons and makes us more intelligent generally. The future working men and women who enter college are adults and will be treated as such. An adult is one who has matured to know what is right and what is wrong. The importance of a rule is a line between right and wrong that many places including colleges have as a guiding tool. College students who enter are expected to follow rules as the rules are meant to protect us and set a guideline. While being undecided for awhile is fine, you probably want to have some idea of what you want to do when you start the college application process. You want to make sure you make the right college choice, and there's nothing worse than finding your dream school only to realize it doesn't offer the major you've ultimately chosen. However, if you enjoyed the part of the job that involved setting up product displays, you might seriously want to consider a major in visual merchandising. The college major that you select impacts the types of jobs you will be qualified for upon graduation. Don't Panic Selecting a college major is an important decision, and it is not one that should be made lightly. It is important to remember, however, that declaring a major is not an irreversible decision. It is not uncommon for college students to change majors one or more times after they enroll in college. Sometimes, you need time, research, and reflection before you can choose a college major. Setting college goals can help you, as can understanding different college majors and how they can move you closer to your goals. • 11. My College English Class and What I learned The course definitely changed the way I approached writing a paper. One day in lecture you quoted Ernest Hemmingway saying, "The first draft of anything is shit." This changed the way I approached and wrote papers. I used to start papers the night before, barely look over them and making few changes. This course encouraged me to outline, write a rough draft and constantly review then finalization the paper. Peer review before this class I though was pointless because most student hardly pay attention to the paper and usually wrote "good job." The students in the class actually read my paper and gave honest feedback and ways to improve it. Also to have a teacher read your draft and give feedback with what is wrong and ways to help the quality of the paper helped greatly. This English class was definitely different than high school English. College English class was very different than high school English class. In high school there was not much emphasis on proper headings and titles. If we had correct name, date and title, the teacher would not care about the parts such as page number and margins. In high school we read more books but mainly paid attention to the sequence of events and put pieces of the story together and not go into detail about tone, point of view or persuasion in the book. High school papers were around 2–3 pages, but in college most of them are 6 or longer. Citing after a sentence is much more stressed in college and plagiarism is taken much more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. College Success Essays College Success What does it mean to be successful? Many people look at the word success from different views. The dictionary defines success in two ways: the accomplishment of one's goals and then the attainment of wealth or position. I believe you can be successful in two ways as well: you can be successful in your career and you can be successful by doing what makes you happy and living a fulfilling life to your standards. You don't have to have a huge mansion on top of a private hill looking over the ocean to be defined as successful. When asked what it takes to be successful in college, that's a different story. Another vital skill that will help me to succeed in college is to have good communication with professors. I chose this skill because your instructors are your most important resource through your college years. Mastering this skill will help me with just about anything; keeping up with grades, going over questions that I have on the homework assignment so that I don't make the same mistake on the test. Professors can be your friend if you let them. They really are there to help you succeed. In "Student Guide to First–Year Composition" Sugie Goen–Salter writes, "When you are a student in a first–year composition course, your instructor is your most important resource."(50) Goen–Salter is saying that you have many resources in college but your main one will be your instructor. You can use them as a learning tool or even as someone to just talk to. I'd much rather my professors be my friend or at least know me by name and face rather than not know who I am. I will talk to my professors about anything; the weather, how their day is going, what they had for breakfast, etc. The purpose of your instructor is to be your guide along this journey of life. If I keep in good contact with my professors I will never be unsure about what is being asked of me. • 14. Campus Descriptive Essay West Virginia University has hands down the most gorgeous campus I have ever seen. Every morning I would wake up knowing that I have the privilege of attending a good school with a breathtakingly beautiful campus. I was gradually awoken by the warm rays of sunlight filtering into my room like a gentle wake up call. I got up to look out the window and I saw my fellow classmates walking to class and going about their days. Stretching and yawning I prepare myself for the day. I cannot help but to think that today is going to be a good day. As I stepped outside for the first time I felt the cool breeze gently blowing between the buildings, giving everyone it touches a breath of fresh air. Strolling through campus, I stopped for a minute to admire how the sun was shining down on like a spotlight on all the beautiful blue and gold flowers. The landscapers worked hard planting the flowers of the most royal of blues and the perfect shade of golden yellow. Walking further down the hill I saw the familiar "flying dub v" on every passing persons clothing. Most of my classmates were in a rush to get to class, but I took my time just absorbing my surroundings. • 17. My Experience In A College Class "Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs. Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences, but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the firstessay approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. How to be a Good College Student Essay How to be a Good College Student College is a competitive environment; in order to succeed in it a student needs certain skills. Those skills can only be learned. A college professor mentioned that there five basic rules that need to be followed in order to become a good student: study, do all the homework and the assigned reading, attend class, and, most importantly, develop self–discipline and time management 1. In the following lines, a detailed analysis of those different steps will be done. So, let's get started. First, we mentioned study. A good student has to do study everyday. Study involves reading thetextbooks, understand them, be able to explain it to others and sometimes memorize the most important concepts. As a...show more content... The textbooks are usually large. The lecture giving by the teacher usually is a summary of the textbook. When revising for the exam, it will be a lot easier for the student to cover the material. Finally, we also mentioned the importance of time management and self–discipline. A student will manage very well his/her time by identifying best time for studying, using distributed learning and practice means study in shorter time blocks with shorts breaks between, reducing distractions which can waste time, making room for entertainment and relaxation, making sure there is time to sleep and eat properly and try to combine activities. For example, if a student is spending time in the Laundromat, he/she can bring his psychology book to read. Managing time takes self discipline. The same professor cited before said that "people who seem to have less difficulty with self–discipline probably have simply had more practice at it". So, practice is what it takes to have self–discipline. In conclusion, it is clear that being a good college student is not an easy task. It required good study habit, class attendance, time management and self–discipline. It is not easy but it worth the hard work. Because, as Jerome R. Breitenbach wrote, "the education you receive in college, and the attitude you develop, will guide you for the rest of your life. Your grades will be especially important in landing your first job, or when applying to graduate Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In this class I have learned about three important concepts that can be very useful throughout my college years to come. You have to identify the values that are going to make you happy because if you don't you may try to accomplish things to make other people happy. Having values helps you to determine where you want to go in life and the decisions you make. If you value something you are pretty much going to base every thing you do around that. Having values makes you a unique person because it has a big impact on the choices you make and the lifestyle you live. One thing you have to value is college because if you don't value it you won't succeed in it because you don't care what you do and you won't achieve anything. Balancing your lifestyle while in college is very difficult because if you have a lot on your plate like children or other important responsibilities it's hard to balance them all and attend college. I think this has a lot to do with time management because when making a schedule you have to put your family or other responsibilities in that schedule and make time for everything. Some people work full time and go to school full time and if you have a lot of things to deal with you will burn out from the stress that such a pace imposes on your mind and body. If you work less and eliminate some things than you will have more time while in college. In conclusion I really have learned a lot in this class and really has helped me to manage my time better Get more content on HelpWriting.net
