Brian Fahrer - Student, Thrill Seeker, Aspiring Entrepreneur. Brian lives by the notion: Life is
what you make of it. He is currently finishing his last semester at Sussex County Community College in
pursuit of a Business Management Degree. Drawn to a variety of disciplines, Brian is always on a quest
for self-understanding. “In college I switched my major numerous times in search of my niche.”
As an undergrad, Brian has achieved much more than merely surviving each semester. To
enhance his education outside of the classroom, Brian enrolled in the schools business club.
“When I was first introduced to the program, I had just passed my Insurance exam and was eager
to network and share my services with others. During my sophomore year I was able to balance
two jobs, business club and school.” For his academic achievements, Brian earned a place on the
dean’s list nearly every semester. He remains focused on his educational goals and the
completion of his Business Management degree this May.
In addition to his academic studies, Brian finds success in what interests him. In late 2011,
his love for snowboarding, lead him to Mountain Creek’s Ski and Snowboard school (SASS).
“The best part of SASS is it benefits both the student and teacher. “As a snowboard instructor I
help aspiring shedders build confidence and progress. Working with SASS also gives me the
opportunity to improve my own abilities and teaching techniques. I’ve always jumped at the
opportunity to benefit others and find I excel in an environment that appreciates enthusiasm,
ingenuity, and imagination.” When the snow melts, Brian finds excitement in: mountain biking,
rock-climbing, motorcycle riding, skydiving, and wakeboarding, the seasons change but his spirit
stays the same.
Always searching for ways to turn a smile, Brian has a profound desire to make people
happy. In 2012, he welcomed the opportunity to become a sales agent with New York Life
Insurance. After several months of study, Brian was licensed to sell insurance and other financial
instruments. But after two years, he decided that the corporate environment was not the proper
platform to express his interests and opted not to renew his contract.
Not long after leaving New York Life, Brian was introduced to the sport of hyro-
jetpacking by a long time friend, Chase Hookway. A certified Life Coach, martial artist and
fitness guru, he has always been the guy to hang around with if you're looking for an adrenaline
rush. Chase would often update Brian on his sister Amber, who was already at the forefront of
the jetpacking world. As a certified Master Instructor and hydro jetpack expert, she was traveling
the globe transforming aspiring pilots into skilled instructors. The news of Amber’s success
inspired Brian to bring the sport home to New Jersey. With Amber’s guidance, he turned a vision
into a strategic plan and Rev Up Watersports was born.
Alice’s Restaurant is an intricate part of why Brian decided to pursue hyro-jetpacking.
Alice’s opened in the spring of 2009 and was the second phase of the Szigethy’s (owners Alice
& Béla) development plan for New Jersey’s largest lake. The first was the Main Lake Market,
followed by the Lake Hopatcong Golf Club, the Miss Lotta dinner cruise boat, and now the
Windlass. Brian is beginning his seventh season as a server at Alice’s and is one, of only two,
original employees who remain at the restaurant.
Though appreciative of his experience at Alice’s, the urge to hang up his apron and move
on is always nearby; but a vision for the future motivates Brian to stay. “There’s a feeling of
2
accomplishment and sense of purpose that stems from being committed to a project that
continues to expand and evolve. Transforming an idea into a functioning business has taught me
lessons I never found in a college textbook.” Being a server not only fulfils Brian’s need for
frequent, spontaneous interaction, it also allows him to network and create a lasting impression
with the restaurant’s guests. The experience, though arduous at times, has gained him a strong
reputation in the community. Not only has Brian helped develop one of the most popular
attractions on the lake, he’s also built strong profitable relationships that will benefit the entire
resort moving forward.
