Letter from the President
The mission of the Kelley School of Business
Alumni Association (KSBAA) is to foster a
connected alumni community that promotes
professional and personal development among
its members, advances the goals of our business
school, and creates an enduring community of
passionate advocates for Kelley.
We strive to accomplish this mission with
our I3 guiding principles of keeping alumni
Informed, Involved, and Invested. We seek
to build a sense of pride in our alumni by
providing relevant information about the
Kelley School and the Alumni Association. We
provide opportunities for alumni to be involved
and increase the level of alumni engagement
through activities that expand their personal
and professional networks, and interact with
and mentor students. As alumni become more
informed and involved, we also aim to grow the
number of alumni donors to increase personal
philanthropy to Kelley and keep alumni
invested in the future of our school.
Our KSBAA Annual Report provides
us the opportunity to reflect on all the
accomplishments the KSBAA has achieved
in the past year in pursuit of attaining our
mission. It also gives us the opportunity to
say thank you to the passionate Kelley School
advocates who are so generous with their time
and contributions.
We are a generous network. The stories I
hear often about alumni helping each other
fill me with pride. The KSBAA strategy starts
with students and seeks to maintain relevancy
throughout the lives of alumni. My fellow board
members and I know that you get what you
give, and we strive to ensure that students and
alumni are prepared, eager and excited to be
part of this awesome network.
Just three short years ago, the KSBAA
launched its own fund to secure the financial
future of our Association. With a modest
contribution of $25,000 and an ambitious
goal to grow the fund to $2.5 million, I’m
pleased to report our fund has grown to
$350,000 through the generosity of Kelley
alumni. This generosity made this Annual
Report possible.
This year is full of ambitious goals, as
we embark on a journey to position Kelley
as The Most Connected Alumni
Network. To that end, we are hosting
a Guinness World Records®
event to
demonstrate how connected our alumni
really are. See details on page 4. Think about
all the connections you have made through
the Kelley Network. Now think about all the
connections you want to make. We will need
the strength of all 100,000+ living alumni
to accomplish this record, so please register
at gokelley.iu.edu/kelleyone to be part
of this historical, newsworthy and game-
changing event on Thursday, October 13.
On behalf of the Board of Directors for the
Kelley School of Business Alumni Association,
it is with a great sense of pride that I convey
our Annual Report to our members and
donors. Thank you for your continued
support and stay Informed, Involved, and
Invested.
Go Kelley!

teve, BS’09, graduated with a finance
degree in the midst of the financial
crisis. He took a job in banking
but his passion was in consulting.
Recognizing his challenge and
anticipating a year-long search, Steve and
his wife Ashley, also an IU grad, invested in a
Lifetime membership in the Alumni Association.
And that was it. At their first Dean’s
Reception in Chicago, Steve met a fellow alum
who worked for a boutique consulting firm,
which led to an interview which landed Steve
his new job within six weeks. Yes, this actually
happens. When alumni are active, and seek
out the opportunities they want, the chance of
realizing those career goals increase.
This story is not uncommon, but many
alumni are still not aware of the power of this
network. The Kelley School of Business Alumni
NETWORK …
Association’s priorities are to communicate
news and opportunities, facilitate meaningful
connections among alumni, and encourage
financial support to maintain momentum.
Keeping alumni informed, involved and
invested builds pride, builds the network and
builds the future.
Steve remained active with the Kelley
Alumni Association and the Network. He
continued to attend events, he placed a priority
on hiring Kelley grads at his firm and took a
volunteer leadership role. The strength of this
network is dependent on alumni using it, giving
back and paying it forward.
At Kelley, business is personal. Relationships
are not transactional, but offer personal
enrichment for alumni who choose to nurture
them. Another Steve, BS’16, learned this
when he attended a networking event his

freshman year and met Shelley, BS’85. Shelley’s
background in the sports industry aligned with
his future career goals, and he leveraged her
insights and advice over the next four years.
Shelley provided support, encouragement and
friendship. And connections – at one point, a
phone call from Shelley helped Steve land an
interview.
When students receive help from alumni,
their gratitude influences their future behavior,
building up the pipeline of informed, involved
and invested alumni.
The journey from student to alum and the
subsequent decades of managing a career
are full of moments – good, bad, purposeful,
involuntary. From job changes to pivotal career
decisions to partnerships that grow business,
the Kelley Network can turn a moment into
momentum.

Matt, MBA’10, was working on a startup
company involving cutting edge technology
in the medical field. He came to a point where
legal guidance was a necessity. Matt turned
to two fellow alumni, both attorneys, serving
with him on the Kelley Alumni Association
Board of Directors. Trust, friendship and legal
expertise resulted in the successful assignment,
management and licensing of his company’s
patent portfolio.
How’s Your Network Connection?
The Kelley Alumni Association, thanks to
generosity of donors to the Kelley Alumni
Association Fund, recently launched a new
networking platform to facilitate more
connections among more alumni in
more meaningful ways. Recognizing the
barriers of in-person events, this new
platform, called Brazen, is an online event
system that enables alumni to go beyond
accepting a LinkedIn invitation and take
the next step in building a relationship.
Using the acronym O.N.E., which stands
for online networking event but which,
more importantly, demonstrates our
unified network, these online events will
be a game changer for all alumni who
want to be a part of this amazing resource.
As of early September, 1565 connections
have already been made in just 7.5 hours.
The Kelley Alumni Association is
pleased to announce its biggest initiative
yet, to inspire your connection.
A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® EVENT
The pride and loyalty among Kelley alumni
at least matches, if not exceeds, that of any
network of any business school in the world.
All over, all the time, alumni help each
other and the school. Alumni gather to cheer
on the Hoosiers, attend events locally, return
to campus to participate in activities, open
doors at their companies and mentor students.
Alumni build the brand when they refer
prospective students, tout Kelley accolades to
colleagues at work (especially alumni of those
other schools) and wear Kelley and IU gear.
In an effort to show the world the strength
of this network, a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS
event will be held as proof that the Kelley
network is connected, helpful and relevant.
How many Kelleys WILL ittake?
On October 13 at 12:00pm Eastern time, Kelley
alumni will unite for The Largest Brazen Event,
as an official and credible record of bringing
together the most members of a network for
an online networking event on the
Brazen platform.
