CAUSE EFFECT
WHAT IS CAUSE EFFECT??
 CAUSE EFFECT is Clause which shows the
relation of cause and effect . There are several
patterns to form this type of clause . Take a good
look .
PUNCTUATION 1
 Because is a subordinating conjunction. It introduces an adverb
clause. It is followed by a subject and a verb.
 Its so the punctuation to use when the dependent clause is placed
first in a sentences, is a comma between the two clauses, but When
the independent clause is placed first and followed by the dependent
clause, don’t separate the two clauses with a comma.
 Example :
Because it is raining, we use an umbrella
dependent clause comma
We use an umbrella because it is raining
Independent clause no comma
PUNCTUATION 2
 Because of is a preposition, it is followed by a noun phrase.
 Its so the punctuation to use a comma is usually if the noun phrase
precedes the independent clause.
 Example:
I stayed at home because of the rain
Because of the rain, I stayed at home
In addition , to reveal the cause and effect relationships
( cause and effect ) can be used another pattern ,
namely :
1. Using Preposition ( preposition ) like Because of ,
due to , due to the fact that , etc.
example :
• Because of the cold weather , we stayed home . ( =
We stayed home Because of the cold weather )
• Due to the cold weather , we stayed home . ( = We
stayed home due to the cold weather )
• Due to the fact that the weather was cold , we
stayed home . ( = We stayed home due to the fact
that the weather was cold )
2 . Using conjunctions ( conjunction ) as Because ,
since , now , that , as , as long as , inasmuch as
example :
• Because he was sleepy , he went to bed .
• Since he is not interested in classical music , he
Decided not to go to the concert .
• As she had nothing in particular to do , she called up
a friend and asked her if she wanted to take in a
movie .
• Inasmuch as the two government leaders could not
reach an agreement , the possibilities for peace are
still remote .
3 . Using transition words such as therefore ,
consequently .
example :
• Alex failed the test Because he did not study .
• Alex did not study . Therefore , he failed the test .
• Alex did not study . Consequently , he failed the test
.
