Apple may shed 2,000 jobs
after warning of loss

Apple Computer of the US warned yesterday it
was heading for a loss in the current quarter,
traditionally one in which it is buoyed by big
pre- Christmas sales.
The news fuelled speculation the Cupertino-
based group may axe as many as 2,000 US jobs in
a shake-out to be announced early next year.
The company blamed price competition in
important US and Japanese markets for shrinking
margins and missed revenue targets.
