2. We
are proposing to open a wellness center
that not only focuses on the physical body,
but also the social emotional spirit.
3. Through
this center, members will
participate in classes that focus on a
combination of physical activity and building
relationships.
4. There
are a wide variety of fitness programs
in Jacksonville. These programs cost money
and for many residents, a gym membership is
not a vital part of the family budget. And in
many cases, the programs like the YMCA, are
not conveniently located.
5. Fusion
Fitness will charge each family and/or
individual on a sliding scale, based on income
and circumstances. We will not say “No!” to
anyone. Health shouldn’t be costprohibited. Everyone is a part of everyone
else.
6. This
wellness center will provide classes that
build a sense of teamwork, forge
relationships and encourage a community of
support.
7. The
classes will include, but not be limited
to, Zumba, Capoeira, Yoga (variety), Dance,
Gymnastics, Tumbling, Cheer, Barre, and
Pilates. There will be classes for all age
groups and a chance for adults to learn the
same fun skills as their children.
8. In
2010, according to the Center for Disease
Control, 35.9% of adults over the age of 20
were obese and 69.2% were overweight.
18.4% of adolescents (12-19) were obese, 18%
of children (6-11) and 12.1% of children (2-5)
were obese.
9. Weight
issues can cause a variety of health
conditions such as heart disease, type 2
diabetes, and certain types of cancers.
In 2008, the estimated annual cost of obesity
in the US was $147 billion.
10. From
1990 to 2010, there was a dramatic
increase in obesity.
Florida’s obesity rate was 26.6%.
11. Our
program will not only support physical
health, but also mental and emotional
health. Mental and emotional health is
essential to the overall health of each
person.
12. The
Surgeon General’s office makes
recommendations for the community, nonprofit and faith-based organizations such as:
Space and organized activities that encourage
social participation
Support child and youth development programs
13. To
be completely healthy, you must take care
of not only your physical health, but your
emotional health as well. There is a physical
connection between what the mind is
thinking and the parts of the brain that
control bodily functions.
14. Former
Surgeon General said, “Because of
increasing rates of obesity, unhealthy eating
habits, and physical inactivity, we may see
the first generation that will be less healthy
and have a shorter life expectancy than their
parents.”
We don’t want this to be true!
15. We want to help everyone feel good and look
good.
