Lee Rainie, director of Internet and Technology research at the Pew Research Center, gave the Holmes Distinguished Lecture at Colorado State University on April 13, 2018. He discussed the research the Center conducted with Elon University’s Imagining the Internet Center about the future of the internet and the way digital technologies will spread to become the “internet of everywhere” and “artificial intelligence” everywhere. He also explored the ways in which experts say this will create improvements in people’s lives and the new challenges – including privacy, digital divides, anti-social behavior and stress tests for how human social and political systems adapt.

Dr. Marcus M. Dapp promovierte an der ETH Zürich zum “Einfluß von Software-Patentierung auf die Motivation und Innovation von Entwicklern von Freier/Open Source Software” und ist seitdem dort als Lehrbeauftragter tätig. Er beschäftigt sich in der Lehre mit der Frage des nachhaltigen Umgangs mit digitalen Gütern. Seit Sommer 2009 arbeite er als IT-Stratege bei der Landeshauptstadt München, wo er sich in Fortsetzung dieses Themas auch mit “Open Government” beschäftigt. Der Vortrag beschreibt, wie verschiedene Interessen die Produktion, Verteilung und Nutzung digitaler Ressourcen (Code & Content) beeinflussen. Gängige Ansätze mit starker Betonung Geistigen Eigentums werden mit offenen Ansätze (Linux, Wikipedia und YouTube) verglichen. Der Fokus liegt auf den Auswirkungen dieser Ansätze und »digitaler Nachhaltigkeit« als möglicher Vision für die Gesellschaft.
