The document provides an interview summary of the band Days and Days backstage at one of their concerts. It describes how, despite their recent success, the band members remain down-to-earth, joking around in casual clothes. The interview discusses how the band formed in school out of a shared love of music and dislike of math, and how seeing bands like Brand New and Green Day inspired their musical style. It also touches on the emotional themes and experiences behind some of the songs on their new top 10 album, and how the band members are incredibly supportive of one another both personally and professionally.
1. The lastDays and Days albumwas released a month ago, and here at LOUD we’ve been dieingto talk to these
Birminghamteens ever since. These guys aretaking the industry by storm at the moment with their edgy riffs,
intense vocals and relatablelyrics. Our interview begins backstageat the O2 Academy Brixton, and reveals
their dreams, biggest inspirations and lovelifesecrets.
After playingReadingmain stageand justreleasinga top 10 album, you would expect Days and Da ys to be
cocky, full of their own success and in top name brands.Instead, they enter the dressingroomin typical jeans,
hoodies and a pair of Vans jokingabout something Hannah justsaid. As Alex slumps in to the sofa with Hannah
next to her and James gets a drink,I am overwhelmed by how down to earth they all seem, whilstalso being
fully awareof their phenomenal talent. Introductions done, it’s time to get down to the real reason we’re all
here: to watch James spill hisDietCoke all over his new jeans.“The REAL lifestyleof the rich and the famous”
Alex laughs,as shegoes on to answer my original question on how the band were formed.
“In school, with an old guitar, empty music room and a mutual hate for maths” Hannah and James agree, when
Hannah adds that she “hated that dead guitar”.“We’ve been at this for so long now, it’s amazingto be ableto
show what we’ve got and be recognised for the amount of hard work it took to get this point”James sincerely
contributes as he finally gets settled in to the arm of the sofa, definitely not largeenough for all three
members. Anyone with eyes can tell that these three form a tight knight, unbreakableunit who are blatantly a
force to be reckoned with.
“Yeah, I think some of our greatest inspirationsof thattime were definitely Brand New and Green Day, likethe
true emo’s we were” Hannah replied, quickly followed by a “so embarrassing”comment by Alex. “I think that
seeing Brand New perform and being ableto ask JesseLacey himself for music advicewas a great deal for me,
he inspires meevery day” James adds.“I think that their albumDeja Entendu definitely had a huge influence
on us growing up, you can tell through the rawemotion and excessiveamount of low whispers on our original
EP’s” Alex cringes.I get the impression thatsheholds this group together and definitely keeps moral high,
which is definitely needed in a band of such high status.
We eventually move on to the topic of the new album, with releases such as ‘Home’ and ‘Blessed’. “This was a
really emotional one for me” Alex confirms,as shewrites the lyrics“ithas a lotto do with break ups and hard
times in my life, which I think is why I’m so pleased ithas done so well, I can sharethese experiences with the
world, hopefully inspireyounger listeners, and say a public ‘screwyou’ to anyone who ever hurt me, which I
think is quitecool.”. You can see that she is quiteuncomfortable talkingof some subjects, especially when
James says “I love that lyric on Home, ‘If love was religion,I’d be the biggest atheistyou know” so much, I think
you can really hear the emotion in that song, especially when we play itlive” Alex looks upset at the thought of
this song, but he carries on with “Obviously we all knowit’s a song aboutthe bigbreak up, but I love the
difference and change of emotions between ‘you are my home’ atthe beginningto you claimingyou will never
love again atthe end, it’s such a pleasureto be ableto play this livewith you two and contribute to that
emotion, I am constantly in awe of your lyrical talent.”From the outside lookingin,I get the impression that
one of the main reasons people lovethis band is thatthey are entirely there for each other all the time, they
are constantly thankingthe others for existingand you can tell they have never taken this fame for granted. I
love how closethey are and how everyone knows they arein this for life, not justfor this album.
With a top 10 albumunder their belt and so much more to come, it is obviously notthe lasttime I wil l be
talkingto this band, and I can’t wait to see how they change the industry some more.
