2. What is ozone?
Ozone is a natural gas composed of three atoms
of oxygen. It chemical symbol is O3. It is blue in
color and has a strong odor. Normal oxygen
(O2), which we breathe, has two oxygen atoms
and is colorless and odorless.
3. Ozone’s types
• Good ozone occurs naturally in the upper Stratosphere.
The stratosphere is the layer of space 6 to 30 miles
above the earth's surface.
• Bad ozone is found in the troposphere, the layer that
forms the immediate atmosphere. Bad Ozone does not
exist naturally.
7. Volcanoes and Ozone
produce massive clouds of ashes (stay in atmosphere 2/5
years),chemical reactions destroy the stratospheric ozone molecules
—> high concentration of bromine and chlorine and halogens gas(3
times worst—>human gas)
Volcanoes contribute about 18%-20% of Chlorine entering the
atmosphere, and human activities contribute about 80%-82%.
9. What can we do?
• sun with energy create new good ozone, and if we want to create
new good ozone we need at least double of energy the USA use, so
its impossible!
• The only way to do that is to remove the excess chlorine and
bromine from the stratosphere IS TO STOP ADDING
CHLOROFLUORO CARBONS GAS and several other chemicals.
• This is not enough, but at least it was a good starting point.
