•Perfect Continuous Tense
•Perfect Tense
Thus, there are total12 English Tenses.
4. Present Simple Tense
Usage:
to talk about routines, things that are always true, general facts, habits
Syntax:
Positive
I/You/We/They + verb or He/ She/It/3rd person name + Verb(-s/-es/-ies)
Negative:
I/You/We/They + don’t + Verb or He/ She/ It/ 3rd person name + doesn’t + Verb
5. Present Continuous/Progressive Tense
Usage:
to talk about actions which are happening at the present moment, but will soon
finish.
Syntax:
Positive
Subject + to be verb + main verb(ing)
Negative:
Subject + to be verb + not + main verb(ing)
6. Present Perfect Continuous Tense
Usage:
To talk about an action which started in the past and it is still going on and will
continue for some more time. The finished action influence the present situation.
Syntax:
Positive
Subject + has/have been + verb(ing)
Negative:
Subject + has/have not been + verb(ing)
7. Present Perfect Tense
Usage:
Usage 1: To talk about an event which started in the past and finished recently.
Usage 2: A repeated action in an unspecified period between the past and now.
Syntax:
Positive: Subject + has/have+ verb (past participle)
Negative: Subject + has/have+ not + verb (past participle)
8. Past Simple Tense
Usage:
•To talk about a completed action in a time before now (in past).
Syntax:
Positive
Subject + verb(ed)/Past tense form of irregular verbs
Negative:
Subject + did not + verb
9. Past Continuous Tense
Usage:
Usage 1: To talk about action in progress in the past at a specific time.
Usage 2: To talk about an action happening in the past when an interruption
occurred. In other words, a small action in progress before interruption or next
action/event occurrence.
Syntax:
Positive: Subject + was/were + verb(ing)
Negative: Subject + was/were + not + verb(ing)
10. Past Perfect Continuous Tense
Usage:
To talk about an event which started in the past and continued for some specific
time in the past. However, not continued till present moment.
Syntax:
Positive: Subject + had been + verb(ing)
Negative: Subject + had not been + verb(ing)
11. Past Perfect Tense
Usage:
To talk about an event which happened in the past. It ended with another past
action.
Syntax:
Positive: Subject + had + Verb Past Participle
Negative: Subject + had +not + Verb Past Participle or
Subject + had +never+ Verb Past Participle
12. Future Simple Tense
Usage 1: When you are expressing possibility in future
Usage 2: When you are taking spontaneous decision.
Syntax:
Positive
Subject + will + verb
Negative:
Subject + will not + verb
13. Future Continuous Tense
Usage: To talk about an action in progress at some time in future
Syntax:
Positive
Subject + will be + verb(ing)
Negative:
Subject + will not be + verb(ing)
14. Future Perfect Continuous Tense
Usage: To talk about an action which will start in future, stay in momentum until A
specific time or Another action happens
Syntax:
Positive
Subject + will + have been + verb(ing)
Negative:
Subject + will not + have been + verb(ing)
15. Future Perfect Tense
Usage: To talk about an action which will be completed in the future Before a
specific time or a specific action happens.
Syntax:
Positive
Subject + will have + Verb Past Participle
Negative:
Subject + will not have +Verb Past Participle
