Descriptive Essay About Family
Excite: "I want you to be better", those are the words my brother told me after I told him I wanted to
be like him. Despite those words being used in every movie it's something that stuck with me. My
brother has taught me so much over the years, he is the person I look up to the most, I've learned
from his mistakes, and learn from his accomplishments, right or wrong, I've tried to be like him.
Launch: You see, my bother always saw the best in the people around him and would have fun while
at it. It doesn't matter if you failed, he will laugh with you and then help you up. With two younger
siblings, no father, and a mother who worked on the daily, he had to learn the responsibility of
taking care of them.
My brother has always been a serious person, however despite always having a serious face, my
brother is a perfect example of the saying "never judge a book by its cover", as people would look at
him weird because of the way he look they never bothered getting to know him but those who did
never regret it.
Relate: we all have that one person we try to be like, in many occasions it's a celebrity but in my
case it's my older brother. His name is Edgar.
Honor: Early in high school many people considered him as a cholo, a Mexican gang member. He
talked to them, hang out with them, dressed like them but was never one of them. Some of his
friends were and so he tried to be like them, I tried to be like him since I also had cholo friends. But
it was never a fit for for

The War That Led to Love Essay example
It wasn't my fault that England and France decided to go to war. It wasn't me who decided that
stealing King Philippe's cow was a great idea. I didn't declare war; I hadn't even wanted a war. And,
so, why was I sitting in a jail cell with a whole bunch of other innocent British? Why was it that I
was soon to be sold as a slave for the crimes my country committed? Oh, I'm sure England was
doing the same thing, but why me. "Your number is 1–0–6–4–2." A guard with a heavy French
accent told me as he dragged me out of my cell. "Remember it." 1–0–6–2–4. No, 1–0–6–4–2. 1–0–
6–4–2. 1–0–6–4–. I gasped as we emerged into a beautiful city. "Oui, le Paris." The guard said
reverently. He chuckled. "Enjoy your stay." He said in farewell as I was ... Show more content on

"You my slave." The woman said haltingly in English. "I have bakery. You learn French." She then
walked forward dragging me with her. We arrived at a small building from which delicious smells
wafted. I soon learned that the woman and I were the only residents. The bakery was fairly
successful and we led comfortable lives. I didn't feel much like a slave; Darlene, the woman, soon
learned English after I had tried, and failed, to speak French. I was soon an expert at baking and
learned to enjoy it. I was happy with my new life; especially as everyone took the time to speak
English for my sake. That day I was making croissants when somebody called out. "Hello?" "How
may I help you?" I asked as I walked out from the back, but I stopped abruptly when I saw the man
at the door. "Well, what do you know!" The young guard said with a laugh leaning on the counter.
"We meet again." "Oh, um. Do you need anything?" I stammered. "I'll settle for some of your
famous croissants." He said not taking his eyes off me. I handed him the croissants wordlessly and
he tossed a gold coin to me. "I'm afraid I don't know your name?" "Ashley." I answered cautiously.
"I see, much better than 1–0–6–4–2." He had remembered my number? "I'm Kyle Edison, at your
service." I didn't know what to say; so I just stood there. "These croissants are delicious by the way."
He said and then he left. Kyle returned many times after that; he brought me news of the war,

4-H's Impact On My Life
4–H is an organization that has impacted my life in so many different ways, it has truely helped to
shape me into the person that I am today. 4–H has taught me to work hard for what I want, to be
responsible, to be able to speak infront of people comfortably, to be organized, and to be a leader for
myself and other people around me. It has taught me these different things through taking care of
my animals and working on my projects, giving presentations to my club and other 4–H members,
and helping others both in and out of my club with their own projects. 4–H has also helped me
understand the importance of serving others and to truely enjoy doing so. Whether it may be taking

Trainspotting Film Analysis Essay
Trainspotting presents an ostensible image of fractured society. The 1996 film opens, famously, with
a series of postulated choices—variables, essentially, in the delineation of identity and opposition.
Significant here is the tone in which these options are delivered—it might be considered the
rhetorical voice of society, a playful exposition of the pressure placed on individuals to make the
"correct" choices, to conform to expectation.
As such, the introduction might be read as contributing to the formation of two narrative constructs:
that of "normality"—or at least that considered "normality" by prevailing ideology—and that of
"subnormality," the remainder. In its uncompromising rejection of the former, the commentary of

These subcultures operate because the world around them is open to interpretation, and if an
interpretation is justified, it is arguably as valid as one which directly opposes it.
The imposition of a universal set of values, like that of the law, for example, is a product of
power—and, liberally speaking, an injustice. Renton notes that his mother, on tranquillisers, "is, in
her own socially acceptable way, also a drug addict." Because these particular characters' choice of
lifestyle conflict with that of the dominant order, they are marginalised—forced to live in squalor and
filth. This is something signified in the mise–en–scene: theirs is a world of repugnant toilets; of
splattered walls, doors and floors; of soiled bed–sheets; of buckets for "urine," "vomittus" and
"faeces."
Fittingly, there is an equally strong argument to the contrary. Begbie proves an unreliable narrator,
yet appears to act without conscience or consequence; Sick Boy, portrayed early on as a closet
philosopher, is rendered mute after the death of his son. Some things are above and beyond words.
Similarly, despite its apparent emphasis on the relationship between power and subjectivity, the film
does pronounce ultimate ethical judgements, as I will describe in a moment.
Trainspotting essentially refuses to make up its mind. At the film's close, Renton's betrayal of his
friends is completely rationalised away. Were his

"It's not important to win, it's important to make the other guy lose!" –Anonymous, To some, life is
boring without winning And competitiveness. This is also the what life is like for my sister, Kendi.
Kendi is my young but competitive little sister. She is seven years old and loves participating in
competition. Competitive is 40 percent of her personality. My little sister Kendi is as competitive as
little girls get. I know this because she loves to challenge me to basketball games, she calls herself
nicknames, and gets really mad when she loses a card game. First, my sister is competitive because
she always challenges me to basketball games. For example, a few weeks ago, she asked me if I
wanted to go to the park and play basketball with her. I agreed and we started walking. When we
started playing she got hit in the face. I asked her if she wanted to keep playing and she said yes. But
I knew that she only wanted to keep playing because she wanted to win the game. Another example
was when she wanted me to literally be her coach. She wanted me to make her do sprints, and help
her "work out". Then at the end of "practice", she wanted to scrimmage! This shows me how
competitive she really is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Security Skills: Questions And Answers
1. You can either make an appointment ( https://apps.ok.gov/dps/exam/scheduler/index.uii ) or go
there yourself. I suggest you make an appointment so you don't have to wait, but if you don't know
what time you're going, then you might as well go in there with your required documentations. The
fastest way to get there is by highway, however, if you can't, then go to the roads.
2. All the documentations you are going to bring––they can't be copied. So when you bring in your
birth certificate, Social Security card, maybe your new papers saying you're a U.S. citizen, and bring
the school letter (the letter expires after 30 days of the day it was filled out), make sure they are all
original. MAKE SURE ONE OF YOUR PARENTS COMES ALONG.

Women Buying Cars Essay
Women Buying Cars
Last spring while trying to buy my first car, I experienced frustration in gaining acknowledgment
from salesmen as well as their respect at several different dealerships. I discovered it was my
attitude and approach to the salesmen that would make the difference in the treatment I received
from the them in buying a car myself. I discovered, by informing the salesman from the beginning
that I was serious and financially capable of buying a car, I was able to get a salesman to take time
in helping me, a high school female, make a car purchase.
Through my experience, I discovered women are at fault for the treatment received from car
salesmen while making an effort to buy a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an article from World Press Review entitled "Car Sexism drives me crazy," author Jojo Moyes
says, " . . . when [women] are interested, we are not taken seriously" (online). But, the salesmen
don't know how serious women are about buying cars. It's in the way women present themselves on
a car lot that lets salesmen know how serious they are. Having a passive attitude in the approach of
buying a car doesn't work. A salesman can hear you say you are interested in buying a car, but he'll
take your word for it if you prove you've done your homework. And by doing your homework,
you'll feel more confident in talking to the salesman and know if you're being taken for a ride
yourself.
In New Choices: Living Even Better After 50, Margo Howard wrote an article titled "Don't Get
Taken for a Ride." She said, "...collect advice and bone up on the facts. Many [women] have found
that organizing a worksheet at home, before hitting the showroom, serves as an anchor. By figuring
out in advance which options you want, there is less chance of being hustled" (online). If we as
women haven't done our homework on the vehicles we want, what kind of service do you think is
expected? Frances Cerra Whittelsey said in an article titled "How women can stop paying more than
men for the same things" in Money, ". . . you'll get taken more seriously – – and probably pay less –

Spartan billing department is a department that processes and bills invoices to customers. In current
process, a supervisor audits around 10% billing account. Commercial accounts with special
contracts will be handled through another process. For other accounts, the department just bills in
regular process and no special process is required. The current process contains necessary steps but
runs inefficiently. As an administrator of Spartan billing department, I will investigate the current
process and modify the process to improve process efficiency. By evaluating the current process, we
can see the wait time for registering AR and financial is as long as 13.3 minutes. The wait time for
the process of verifying bills is also longer than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can see from the table above that under the case of "change resource", the wait time remained
the same compared to case two. The total cost of normal bill and contract bill were increased a little
bit. However, the total cost was much higher than previous cases and reached 27537. The reason for
the total cost increase was that we increased skilled labor cost. The output of the bills was the same
when compared to case two. Compared to base case, case three was more efficient, as it improved
the output of bills and reduces the wait time. However, compared to case two, it seems only
increased the total cost and reduced the efficiency of process. The third one I changed is to increase
the arrival rate. As Spartan billing department will expand businesses to two regions, it will cause
increases in both normal and commercial bills. We have to increase the arrival rate and try to
simulate this demand. I adjusted the normal bills arrival rate to 4 minutes and the contract bills
arrival rate to 12 minutes. There were significant changes in the wait time of registering AR and
financial and number of bills coming out. The wait time of registering AR and financial climbed up
to 20.93 minutes and it was even longer than the base case. The number of output bills was also the
highest in the four cases and reached 10716. It seems that case four is efficient because output bills
are increased. But actually, the increase is due to the increase of arrival rate. This case still had

Reflection Paper On Morals
What you are
Having morals is what defines you as a person. Most morals are based on what you believe in. Some
people live by their personal belief. But as for me, what I live by is that I should always treat people
how they wanted to be treated. I always give my upmost respect to people. I treat everybody the
same.
As I got older I then realized how important it is to have morals. One is you should treat people how
you wanted to be treated, Growing up I was made fun of a lot because of my weight I weighed less
than 100 pounds in the 7th grade, I was just a naturally skinny person. When I was growing up I
went to a Christian school from pre–K to 7th grade, but when I was in 7th grade I wanted to do
something different. So I asked my mom to put me in public school, so she did. I remember my first
day of public school, I was so excited but nervous to, I didn't know what to expect. At first I liked it
because it was different from what I was used to, I was use to sitting in a class room with like 20
other people, everybody knew everybody, and we had to sit in these little grey cubical. I always did
my work out of these packets, you had to do so many packets per week.
When I first started my new school I didn't know anybody, I was considered to be the "new kid" So
of course I was an easy target for people to make fun of me, I didn't really have any body to talk to,
Nobody really was interested in talking to me or getting to know me, for the first couple weeks of

and usually reached its peak in December. The unusual behavior in September 1996 pulls our

Personal Narrative Essay : My Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party
My sweet sixteen birthday party was exactly that: sweet. Every girl wants their sixteenth birthday
party to be spectacular, and while mine did not necessarily have all the bells and whistles it was
fantastic. There were games, singing, dancing, even a Ouija board made an appearance, but by far
my favorite was the photo booth. Small props were on a table while a high–tech camera was situated
in front of a plain canvas backdrop. Several photos were taken in the span of two hours, yet the most
special one was the final photo of the night. Just before being taken down, I forced everyone in
attendance into the frame, resulting in a series of images that hold more memories of sixteen
seconds then I could have had created in two hours. That photo will always hold many significant
memories for me because it includes a majority of my friends, was taken in a chaotic manner, and
captures the mood of the party in four images. A first of its kind, the refrigerator photo contains
nearly all my limited amount friends. Of my total of sixteen companions, fifteen of them were
crammed into the four–foot space to be captured in the picture. I remember thinking how this would
be the first photo I have of all my friends together that was not the yearbook marching band photo.
How excited I was to have a moment where there was no drama, no fighting, and no resentment
captured for me to look back on. We were all happy to be there; among one another having a joyous

We Should Pay College Athletes Essay
Over the years, the debate on whether or not to pay collegiate athletes, specifically Division 1, has
increased greatly. With athletes bringing in millions of dollars to their respective schools, many
believe it's time to make a change. The debate has been ongoing since the 70's, maybe even earlier,
but it really came to the attention of many in the early 90's, specifically 1995. Marcus Camby, a
basketball player for the Toronto Raptors, admitted he took money and jewelry, from somebody who
wanted to be his agent, while he was playing at the University of Massachusetts. This was one of
many incidents that involved a player accepting money and other gifts from an agent and/or booster.

traveling all over the country), when are they going to fit in time to serve fries at Burger King. "I
guess it's a good thing," says Indiana University freshman guard Michael Lewis. "But between class

Personal Essay On Cheerleading
Ever since I was a little girl I always wished I was good at sports, or learned how to do makeup like
the pretty girls. I never quite got how people were so great at doing things like it just came to
them, even academically there was always someone better. This never discouraged me or made me
feel belittled, actually it made me want to find what I was good at. I tried almost everything!
Cheerleading, step team, all the way to the debate team. After trying so hard I by accidentally

The Theme Of Madness In Hamlet And Shakespeare's Hamlet
Shakespeare is known for the many reoccurring themes in his tragedies. One such theme is that of
love causing madness. One prime example of this is Ophelia's downfall in Hamlet. Hamlet has been
transformed into motion pictures any times, and two show the theme of madness in Ophelia in
different ways: the 1990 version of Hamlet created by Zeffirelli and the 1996 version by Branagh.
While both actresses that played Ophelia conveyed the madness well, they took different approaches
in terms of vocal inflections and movements. The directors also took different approaches to portray
madness like costumes and settings. Lastly, while Bonham–Carter's Ophelia in 1990 shows some
ambiguity in the reasons behind her madness, Blanchett's Ophelia in 1996 does not.
The major scene that shows the madness Ophelia has descended into is in act four scene five. The
two portrayals by Helen Bonham– Carter and Kate Blanchett are quite different as shown by their
acting of this scene. First, Bonham–Carter's movements appear much more calculated than
Blanchett's movements, as Blanchett primarily lies on the ground trashing out in a random manner.
Bonham–Carter, on the other hand, walks around the set with a purposeful stride
(witchywoman4u12, 2011). Next, they also speak quite differently. Blanchett screams the majority
of the speech and speaks with an inflection that speaks of unsureness. Bonham–Carter speaks with a
calmer tone like she knows exactly what she is saying. Lastly, when Ophelia has interactions
between herself and another character like her conversations with Gertrude and Claudius,
Blanchett's Ophelia appears to be unaware of her surroundings and other people initiate the
conversations (Aaron Bradford, 2013). Unlike the 1996 version, Bonham–Carter gets up close to
people when she is talking to them, and initiates the conversations between herself and Claudius and
Gertrude. This happens during Ophelia's lines, "Where is the beauteous majesty of Denmark...How
should I your true love know From another one? By his cockle hat and staff, And his sandal
shoon...Say you? nay, pray you, mark. He is dead and gone, lady, He is dead and gone; At his head a
grass–green turf, At his heels a stone," (IV.v, Shakespeare, William). She

Analysis Of Jacqueline Woodson's Brown Girl Dreaming
In Jacqueline Woodson's Brown Girl Dreaming, Jackie finds a sense of comfort in Greenville, South
Carolina, which is her first long time home and where she spends most of her pivotal growing years;
for me my first long time home was on Guido street in Oakland, California, this is where I felt the
comfortable to grow and learn freely.
Greenville, South Carolina gives Jackie the feeling of comfort, safety and protection from the harsh
outside world. On a cold winter night Jackie is sitting on her porch resting her head in her
grandfather's warm arm, she "look[s] up and the earth stops in a blanket of stars...[she doesn't] need
words on a night like this, just warmth [and] the silent promise that the world as [she] know[s] it
will always be here"(58). When her mother comes late in the night to take her to New York she
wants to protest, but "[she] is to sleepy to tell [her mother] that Greenville is home [because] even in
the winter, the crickets sing [them] to sleep"(137). When she is looking at the stars, she is
comfortable and safe. A blanket of stars is like a blanket which warms and comforts you when you
sleep, A blanket can also make someone feel safe, at least for me. When I was little, when I would
get scared I would hide under my blanket. Jackie is under the covers already since she is looking up
to the blanket of stars, growing up in a place like this is essentially like hiding under the covers, safe
and comfortable. Next she talks about how the world will always be

Essay On Coping With Death And Grief
Losing something that is really important to you can be heartbreaking and it even may be hard for
life to go on. If I was in a situation like that, I'm not sure how I would react. I don't wish on anyone
to be in that situation. By losing everyone and everything you love, it can be emotionally
traumatizing. In a situation like the Holocaust, I don't know if I could ever go on. I can't imagine
what Elie Weisel went through during his time in the concentration camps and losing his family
members. He was very strong and got through all of it and he was a noble man. He passed on his
story as a survivor of the Holocaust and we can honor him for that. Being in a situation where you
lose something or someone you love is always a hard time but you can take your experiences and
make a difference in other people's lives.

One part of the article explains what the coping mechanisms are of people who lost loved ones.
Some examples are that people cry a lot or have a lack of sleep. It also explains how to help others
with coping with a loss. I think this is important because if you go through something like that, you
always want someone you can talk to or to lean on for support. It's a hard thing to go through and
you don't ever want to be alone. It's also important to know what to say because you don't want to
say something to make them more upset. Some people can become depressed or be traumatized in
these situations. Some people experience death in different ways, whether you were with the person
when they passed away or you weren't with them. Everyone has a different experience and everyone
handles it differently. Death is a hard thing to cope with but if you have the right support, then you
can become stronger and hopefully help someone that needs you when they lose

Theme Of Storytelling In The Things They Carried
Storytelling is like opening a window to the mind of the listeners. Stories provide the chance to
experience a wide variety of emotions without actually having to go through the situations in which
you would feel them. Tim O'Brien uses himself to show us that storytelling and memory can help
alleviate burdens over time. Through the book, The Things They Carried, we can take a look at
many war stories that Tim tells and how storytelling can get people through the times they never
thought they could. He shows this by retelling many stories about the burdens he carries from the
war throughout this book. Burdens are heavy loads, almost like an invisible back pack we carry with
us on the inside due to intense situations we've experienced in our ... Show more content on

In the text, Tim O'Brien uses, "But this too is true: stories can save us, in a story, miracles can
happen" (O'Brien 213–224). Through this, we can infer that stories can mean nothing to some
people and mean the world to others. In a story, there might be something said that can remind a
person that even though you may have been in a rough situation that you think you'll never be able
to recover from, it is possible. I read an article on how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
became a problem far beyond the battlefield. In the article, there was a section that talked about how
the soldiers come home from war and don't know how to act in the new environment from were
they've been striving for what seemed to be forever. This can cause an unhealthy amount of stress
and uncomfortableness on the soldiers because they are going from being with the same group of
people under the same rough conditions to returning home and having to try and settle back into a
much more relaxed setting than they were used to. This can directly be seen in the article where it
says, "Many soldiers will tell you that the hardest things about coming home is learning to sleep
without the security of a group of heavily armed men around them" (Junger). When the men come
home and tell the memories they have from fighting in the war, it helps them relieve what they've
been carrying

Argumentative Essay: Should Marijuana Be Legalized?
"I wasn't supposed to be smoking weed but it easy to get ahold of and harmless. So it was more of a
'why not?' situation," Daiga said. While Daiga was growing up, her parents and some of their friends
smoked very openly around her. She knew that marijuana was illegal, but she never viewed it as a
bad thing.
By the time Daiga was 12, she started smoking marijuana. She and her best friend found a large
mason jar full of weed in her best friend's older sister's room. They wanted to try it, so they
continued snooping and discovered a pipe and promptly went into her back yard and smoked. "We
were both just waiting to feel something, but I don't think I got high at all that first time. But after
that, we would always try and smoke if we had the chance," Daiga said. Most of the people
interviewed who enjoy marijuana have started smoking at a younger age. According to the National

My Life Of A Bright Star
Fifteen years have passed since the day I was born, and I have three life alternating moments to
represent the most important events I've been through. At the age of eight, life was a bright star. My
younger sister, Aria, was born. During my mother's pregnancy I was a conceited, narcissistic little
brat. The responsibility of being someone's older sibling is huge. The thoughts running through my
mind at the time were all a bit depressing. I was thinking about how hard it'll be and how much
work will be needed to be done. But in the moment I held her, all the negativity disappeared and I
held life in my hands. I couldn't believe all the opposing thoughts I had about an innocent child. The
feeling was purely ecstatic. In that moment I started to think more about life. In its most astonishing
moments life is more a gift than a drag. Its more of a bright star rather than a something pulling you
down. I had a little sister, and looking at that now I realize I could never have hoped for a better one.
At times she seems to live to annoy me to death, while other times she tends to mess my room up
when shes mad at me. I'm okay with that, after all we were born to be real, not perfect.
At the age of twelve, when my aunt died, my life was like an alarm clock. My aunt and I were fairly
close. We used to walk around together often and talk about almost anything. At times I may have
prefered her over my mother. She got me into my obsession of sports. She was there when I scored

How Al Capone's Empire Grew
Al Capone's Whiskey Importation Turns Into Cocaine Hydrochloride Al Capone had been a juvenile
delinquent and gained his "scarface" nickname after he was slashed across the cheek while working
as a night club bouncer. The once small–time thug moved up and up to become the head of a huge
villainous organization, believed to be responsible for at least 300 murders. The St. Valentine's Day
Massacre in which seven members of a rival gang were lined up against a garage wall and gunned
down, is probably the most notorious and bloody killing attributable to Capone's reign of terror in
Chicago's 1920's. However, Capone was more prominent in going against the law of prohibition.

broader ethnic universe allowed Al to escape the solidity of his Italian neighborhood. There is no
question that this exposure would help him in his future role as the head of a criminal empire. A

Descriptive Moment
Determination On the first day of summer in 2010, I encountered a life changing event. It was a cool
damp evening after the last day of school, and we were having a barbeque at my neighbors house.
My best friends Tony and Sarah lived there and we had plans to stay the first night of summer in
their aunts tiny old pop–up camper. We all were sitting on their patio on the cold and clammy tile,
laughing, telling stories, and eating. My neighbor, Tom, had grilled hot dogs, and Mary and my
Mother had made baked beans, cut a watermelon, and set out chips. The air smelled of grill smoke
and wet grass. I was wearing my light blue pajamas, and vibrant blue and fuzzy slipper boots. It was
a beautiful evening which celebrated the first day of summer.
Both our families were playing kickball in my neighbors huge back yard, and all I wanted to do was
beat Tony. I was up to kick and I kicked the ball past the outfielders. I sprinted to first base, and
when I saw the ball had not been retrieved yet I rounded first base and started toward second. All of
the sudden I saw Tony running at me with the ball out of the corner of my eye. I had watched my
sister play softball before so I knew that when it was a close call the runner always slid, and using
that logic I decided to go for it. I think it was a combination between the slippers and the wet grass
from the rain earlier that day, but I do know that the next thing I saw was not pretty. I had tripped
over my foot and was flying in the air.

A Short Story : A Story?
It was the smell of smoke that was the reason I awoke on that dreadful night. The smoke was not
from that of a candle nor of a fire, but rather the heavy pungent smoke from a cigarette. The
unmistakable scent sent shivers racing up my spine and memories seeping into my brain. In the 25

and pleaded that I was still dreaming, that the scent was conjured up by my imagination. And when I
finally did sit up in bed I let out a blood–curdling scream.Standing in the doorway of the room
watching me intently was my father.
Illuminated only by the moonlight that leaked through the drapes stood my father. The smoke from
his long cigarette swirled around him like a snake coiling around its prey. There he stood ominously

cigarette, with a head tilted back he blew an opaque cloud blocking the view of his face. Sitting
there within sight of him I felt sick, or perhaps it was the scent of his cigarette, but regardless, he

Essay about Baby Boomers Are Jealous
Baby Boomers are Jealous
Generation X'ers have been described as "fanatically independent individuals pathologically
ambivalent about the future, and brimming with unsatisfied longings for permanence, for love, and
for material possessions."
(Lauren, p.64) This less–than–flattering description of our generation has since been expanded by
the media to the point that myself and my peers are described as a bunch of apathetic slackers
unconcerned with family values, godless cynics resentful of the preceding generations.
Since Douglas Coupland's Book Generation X came out in 1991, many things have been said about
the twentysomethings. Labeled by Coupland and the media as Generation X. Although the name has

play any sports. In today's world we make it seem like there are no other activities a child can
participate in. Despite the chances of your kid enjoying the sport parents should not force their kids
to participate in athletic events because it can cause your child stress, or leave your child overall
unhappy.
Confidence is something that everyone needs. If a child does not have the confidence to play a sport
the answer is not to force the child to keep playing. That crushes a kid's happiness especially if they
are not having fun. "At some point kids have to want to play sports because THEY love to play, not
just because you want them to play"(You) Children shouldn't feel uncomfortable or pressured to
participate in athletic events. If they do their more than likely not going to enjoy what they are
doing.

Sports is not the only thing kids can do to exercise. Going on walks outside everyday is good
exercise, or throwing a frisbee or ball outside for fun, or even playing tag and hide–and–go–seek.
These examples all can be considered exercise. There are numerous of activities kids can do to
exercise that don't include playing a sport. Writer, Janis Merideth expressed how she felt on the
issue of forcing kids to play sports. Merideth states "If your young child does not think playing
sports is fun, then don't force him or her to sign up for the team. If you are concerned about exercise,
there's other ways for that to happen"(Should) Getting exercise is very important but sports isn't the

How To Write A Summary Of Frankenstein Chapter 1
Chapter one was an introduction to his life. His mother went through a traumatizing time and his
father helped her get through it, and they eventually got married. They didn't care that they were so
far apart in age, they thought that it just brought them closer together. Once Frankenstein was born
his mother and father fell in love with him, his mother thought that he was essentially an angel sent
from heaven. For a while, they never had any other child except for him.
Later on in the chapter, it says that his mother wanted a daughter, but for some reason, he still
remained their only child. While he and his mother were off on a walk they passed a cottage for the
poor. She felt like she could relate to the young children since she was once an orphan herself. They
went inside to try and see if they could help, and they found Elizabeth. Frankenstein's mother
thought she was the prettiest girl she'd ever seen. Eventually, they take her home and ... Show more

He had a great childhood growing up and his parents were the nicest people you would ever meet.
They were not tyrants that kept him locked up all the time. They made everything fun for him and
Elizabeth. However, even though he had a great life, he had a bad temper. He wouldn't get mad at
childish issues, he just had a passion for learning. Growing up, he liked to learn about different
scientists. He didn't like the newer scientists or authors very much. He liked the older ones who had
experiments that never succeeded. He followed along with what they were teaching him in school,
but he taught himself everything about his favorite topics. Victor wanted to be the best scientist
known to man, he looked up to Sir Isaac Newton and wanted to be greater than him. When a
thunderstorm hit his hometown, he was intrigued by what he saw, he knew nothing about the laws of
electricity, and thus, creating a little foreshadowing of events in this chapter. How he creates, the

Narrative Essay: Dewey's Loss Of Identity
It was raining hard like no ever on James's 14th birthday, but he celebrated it anyways with his
friend Dewey. The two of them formed a bond last year at freshman orientation and ever since then,
they vowed to be best friends forever. James had brown hair, tan skin color, and was relatively short
for his age. James is normally shy and introverted around school, but he tends to get playful around
those who he is close with, such as Dewey. Dewey was 14–years–old and had blond hair with pale
skin and was quite tall for his age. Dewey had a great sense of humor and seemed to be the
courageous type of guy. Nevertheless, Mike (James's dad) said that he was going to be gone most of
the night because he served night shift for his work. Little did the two ... Show more content on

However, without the mask, Mike was tall and had black hair. And, corresponding with what he
planned with, he had that outgoing and daring personality. It was only a matter of time the two boys
would experience the scariest prank. The moon shone bright, but the dark long clouds blocked all
light coming from above. Instead of the moon's light shining on the Earth's surface, lightning began
to take its course and began to light up the sky. As the rain poured hard onto the roof of James's
house, lightning constantly struck along with the sound of thunder shortly following the flash.
James's room was very bright and it shone almost as bright as the lightning when Mike crept up
along the side of the house. Picking up small pebbles and other objects, Mike tried to throw them at
James's window. He had a set of plans to scare the boys and this was only the first step. It took Mike
several tries to try to scare the boys. It wasn't until he saw them peek outside to see what was hitting
the window thinking the thumps were just the rain. On James's perspective, his room was filled with
the music that was playing very loudly along with the squeaks the bed. The two boys were actually

The Visualization Practice Of Visualization
Visualization Practice
I wanted to this a practice of visualization together.
First I want to try a practice of visualization as a way to calm our thoughts and feelings.
Close your eyes. You are now in a calm, relaxed state of being. To deepen this state you can imagine
yourself travelling into space. Visualize yourself drifting weightlessly and effortlessly through
space. See the deep blue–black color of space all around you. Watch the stars and planets slowly
recede as you move past them further and further into space. As you see each star recede, you will
become more and more relaxed...Stay in this space as long as you wish. To return to your everyday
state of mind simply visualize yourself moving back through space to the place where you started.
Now open your eyes.
How do you feel? Now I want us to try practice visualizing something we each want in our lives and
picturing ourselves us achieving that.
Close your eyes. Think of what it is you really want. Take a moment to picture that object, that
place, that event, or that state of being. Really picture yourself in that moment. Trace your mind to
how you came to achieve it. Think of yourself achieving it and holding on it, and reaching it. Stay in
that moment. Make that moment real. Really picture how you would feel in the moment. Are you
happy, are you excited? Feel those joyful feelings. Embrace that moment. Make it real. Now open
your eyes.
How do you feel?
So what The Secret states about this practice of

Vacation Bible School
I grew up in the St. Louis suburb of Eureka, where I still live today. If you ever look at me and
wonder where that scar on my forehead came from, well it happened when I was roughly 12 months
old when I fell out of a moving car. My parents raised me as a Methodist at the Eureka United
Methodist Church. During my years attending Geggie Elementary School, every Sunday my parents
would force me to get out of bed and go to Church with them. During church, all the children would
go to Sunday school while the parents were listening to the sermon. In Sunday school, we had a
teacher, sometimes my mom, who would give out fun church related activities. However, I did not
enjoy doing that mostly because it involved getting out of bed early and since I did not like the
subject matter either, but at that age, children do not fully grasp the importance of attending church
and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here I interacted with similarly aged Christians and did learning activities together with instructors.
As I got older, when I attended LaSalle Springs Middle School, I began to participate in Vacation
Bible School as a teacher and would give out activities for the younger children to do. Shortly after,
I went through conformation to officially become a member of the Church. During this time, I was
also baptized because I wasn't at birth. After middle school, I attended Eureka High School. In my
early high school years my family, including myself, became disconnected from the church because
we got busier with academics and sports, which left less time for Church. However, I did go on
mission trips with the church, one to Virginia Beach in Virginia and the other to Joplin in Missouri.
In Virginia Beach, we helped fix up a nursing home and interacted with less fortunate children. In
Joplin, we helped to rebuild homes due to the devastating

Descriptive Essay About Family

  • 1. Descriptive Essay About Family Excite: "I want you to be better", those are the words my brother told me after I told him I wanted to be like him. Despite those words being used in every movie it's something that stuck with me. My brother has taught me so much over the years, he is the person I look up to the most, I've learned from his mistakes, and learn from his accomplishments, right or wrong, I've tried to be like him. Launch: You see, my bother always saw the best in the people around him and would have fun while at it. It doesn't matter if you failed, he will laugh with you and then help you up. With two younger siblings, no father, and a mother who worked on the daily, he had to learn the responsibility of taking care of them. My brother has always been a serious person, however despite always having a serious face, my brother is a perfect example of the saying "never judge a book by its cover", as people would look at him weird because of the way he look they never bothered getting to know him but those who did never regret it. Relate: we all have that one person we try to be like, in many occasions it's a celebrity but in my case it's my older brother. His name is Edgar. Honor: Early in high school many people considered him as a cholo, a Mexican gang member. He talked to them, hang out with them, dressed like them but was never one of them. Some of his friends were and so he tried to be like them, I tried to be like him since I also had cholo friends. But it was never a fit for for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The War That Led to Love Essay example It wasn't my fault that England and France decided to go to war. It wasn't me who decided that stealing King Philippe's cow was a great idea. I didn't declare war; I hadn't even wanted a war. And, so, why was I sitting in a jail cell with a whole bunch of other innocent British? Why was it that I was soon to be sold as a slave for the crimes my country committed? Oh, I'm sure England was doing the same thing, but why me. "Your number is 1–0–6–4–2." A guard with a heavy French accent told me as he dragged me out of my cell. "Remember it." 1–0–6–2–4. No, 1–0–6–4–2. 1–0– 6–4–2. 1–0–6–4–. I gasped as we emerged into a beautiful city. "Oui, le Paris." The guard said reverently. He chuckled. "Enjoy your stay." He said in farewell as I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "You my slave." The woman said haltingly in English. "I have bakery. You learn French." She then walked forward dragging me with her. We arrived at a small building from which delicious smells wafted. I soon learned that the woman and I were the only residents. The bakery was fairly successful and we led comfortable lives. I didn't feel much like a slave; Darlene, the woman, soon learned English after I had tried, and failed, to speak French. I was soon an expert at baking and learned to enjoy it. I was happy with my new life; especially as everyone took the time to speak English for my sake. That day I was making croissants when somebody called out. "Hello?" "How may I help you?" I asked as I walked out from the back, but I stopped abruptly when I saw the man at the door. "Well, what do you know!" The young guard said with a laugh leaning on the counter. "We meet again." "Oh, um. Do you need anything?" I stammered. "I'll settle for some of your famous croissants." He said not taking his eyes off me. I handed him the croissants wordlessly and he tossed a gold coin to me. "I'm afraid I don't know your name?" "Ashley." I answered cautiously. "I see, much better than 1–0–6–4–2." He had remembered my number? "I'm Kyle Edison, at your service." I didn't know what to say; so I just stood there. "These croissants are delicious by the way." He said and then he left. • 4. Trainspotting Film Analysis Essay Trainspotting presents an ostensible image of fractured society. The 1996 film opens, famously, with a series of postulated choices—variables, essentially, in the delineation of identity and opposition. Significant here is the tone in which these options are delivered—it might be considered the rhetorical voice of society, a playful exposition of the pressure placed on individuals to make the "correct" choices, to conform to expectation. As such, the introduction might be read as contributing to the formation of two narrative constructs: that of "normality"—or at least that considered "normality" by prevailing ideology—and that of "subnormality," the remainder. In its uncompromising rejection of the former, the commentary of Ewan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These subcultures operate because the world around them is open to interpretation, and if an interpretation is justified, it is arguably as valid as one which directly opposes it. The imposition of a universal set of values, like that of the law, for example, is a product of power—and, liberally speaking, an injustice. Renton notes that his mother, on tranquillisers, "is, in her own socially acceptable way, also a drug addict." Because these particular characters' choice of lifestyle conflict with that of the dominant order, they are marginalised—forced to live in squalor and filth. This is something signified in the mise–en–scene: theirs is a world of repugnant toilets; of splattered walls, doors and floors; of soiled bed–sheets; of buckets for "urine," "vomittus" and "faeces." Fittingly, there is an equally strong argument to the contrary. Begbie proves an unreliable narrator, yet appears to act without conscience or consequence; Sick Boy, portrayed early on as a closet philosopher, is rendered mute after the death of his son. Some things are above and beyond words. Similarly, despite its apparent emphasis on the relationship between power and subjectivity, the film does pronounce ultimate ethical judgements, as I will describe in a moment. Trainspotting essentially refuses to make up its mind. At the film's close, Renton's betrayal of his friends is completely rationalised away. Were his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Kendi Research Paper "It's not important to win, it's important to make the other guy lose!" –Anonymous, To some, life is boring without winning And competitiveness. This is also the what life is like for my sister, Kendi. Kendi is my young but competitive little sister. She is seven years old and loves participating in competition. Competitive is 40 percent of her personality. My little sister Kendi is as competitive as little girls get. I know this because she loves to challenge me to basketball games, she calls herself nicknames, and gets really mad when she loses a card game. First, my sister is competitive because she always challenges me to basketball games. For example, a few weeks ago, she asked me if I wanted to go to the park and play basketball with her. Women Buying Cars Essay Women Buying Cars Last spring while trying to buy my first car, I experienced frustration in gaining acknowledgment from salesmen as well as their respect at several different dealerships. I discovered it was my attitude and approach to the salesmen that would make the difference in the treatment I received from the them in buying a car myself. I discovered, by informing the salesman from the beginning that I was serious and financially capable of buying a car, I was able to get a salesman to take time in helping me, a high school female, make a car purchase. In an article from World Press Review entitled "Car Sexism drives me crazy," author Jojo Moyes says, " . . . when [women] are interested, we are not taken seriously" (online). But, the salesmen don't know how serious women are about buying cars. It's in the way women present themselves on a car lot that lets salesmen know how serious they are. Having a passive attitude in the approach of buying a car doesn't work. A salesman can hear you say you are interested in buying a car, but he'll take your word for it if you prove you've done your homework. And by doing your homework, you'll feel more confident in talking to the salesman and know if you're being taken for a ride yourself. In New Choices: Living Even Better After 50, Margo Howard wrote an article titled "Don't Get Taken for a Ride." She said, "...collect advice and bone up on the facts. Commercial accounts with special contracts will be handled through another process. For other accounts, the department just bills in regular process and no special process is required. The current process contains necessary steps but runs inefficiently. As an administrator of Spartan billing department, I will investigate the current process and modify the process to improve process efficiency. The total cost of normal bill and contract bill were increased a little bit. However, the total cost was much higher than previous cases and reached 27537. The reason for the total cost increase was that we increased skilled labor cost. The output of the bills was the same when compared to case two. Compared to base case, case three was more efficient, as it improved the output of bills and reduces the wait time. However, compared to case two, it seems only increased the total cost and reduced the efficiency of process. The third one I changed is to increase the arrival rate. As Spartan billing department will expand businesses to two regions, it will cause increases in both normal and commercial bills. We have to increase the arrival rate and try to simulate this demand. I adjusted the normal bills arrival rate to 4 minutes and the contract bills arrival rate to 12 minutes. There were significant changes in the wait time of registering AR and financial and number of bills coming out. The wait time of registering AR and financial climbed up to 20.93 minutes and it was even longer than the base case. • 20. The Theme Of Madness In Hamlet And Shakespeare's Hamlet Shakespeare is known for the many reoccurring themes in his tragedies. One such theme is that of love causing madness. One prime example of this is Ophelia's downfall in Hamlet. Hamlet has been transformed into motion pictures any times, and two show the theme of madness in Ophelia in different ways: the 1990 version of Hamlet created by Zeffirelli and the 1996 version by Branagh. While both actresses that played Ophelia conveyed the madness well, they took different approaches in terms of vocal inflections and movements. The directors also took different approaches to portray madness like costumes and settings. Lastly, while Bonham–Carter's Ophelia in 1990 shows some ambiguity in the reasons behind her madness, Blanchett's Ophelia in 1996 does not. The major scene that shows the madness Ophelia has descended into is in act four scene five. The two portrayals by Helen Bonham– Carter and Kate Blanchett are quite different as shown by their acting of this scene. First, Bonham–Carter's movements appear much more calculated than Blanchett's movements, as Blanchett primarily lies on the ground trashing out in a random manner. Bonham–Carter, on the other hand, walks around the set with a purposeful stride (witchywoman4u12, 2011). Next, they also speak quite differently. Blanchett screams the majority of the speech and speaks with an inflection that speaks of unsureness. Bonham–Carter speaks with a calmer tone like she knows exactly what she is saying. Lastly, when Ophelia has interactions between herself and another character like her conversations with Gertrude and Claudius, Blanchett's Ophelia appears to be unaware of her surroundings and other people initiate the conversations (Aaron Bradford, 2013). Unlike the 1996 version, Bonham–Carter gets up close to people when she is talking to them, and initiates the conversations between herself and Claudius and Gertrude. This happens during Ophelia's lines, "Where is the beauteous majesty of Denmark...How should I your true love know From another one? By his cockle hat and staff, And his sandal shoon...Say you? nay, pray you, mark. In the text, Tim O'Brien uses, "But this too is true: stories can save us, in a story, miracles can happen" (O'Brien 213–224). Through this, we can infer that stories can mean nothing to some people and mean the world to others. In a story, there might be something said that can remind a person that even though you may have been in a rough situation that you think you'll never be able to recover from, it is possible. I read an article on how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) became a problem far beyond the battlefield. In the article, there was a section that talked about how the soldiers come home from war and don't know how to act in the new environment from were they've been striving for what seemed to be forever. This can cause an unhealthy amount of stress and uncomfortableness on the soldiers because they are going from being with the same group of people under the same rough conditions to returning home and having to try and settle back into a much more relaxed setting than they were used to. This can directly be seen in the article where it says, "Many soldiers will tell you that the hardest things about coming home is learning to sleep without the security of a group of heavily armed men around them" (Junger). While Daiga was growing up, her parents and some of their friends smoked very openly around her. She knew that marijuana was illegal, but she never viewed it as a bad thing. By the time Daiga was 12, she started smoking marijuana. She and her best friend found a large mason jar full of weed in her best friend's older sister's room. They wanted to try it, so they continued snooping and discovered a pipe and promptly went into her back yard and smoked. "We were both just waiting to feel something, but I don't think I got high at all that first time. But after that, we would always try and smoke if we had the chance," Daiga said. • 27. My Life Of A Bright Star Fifteen years have passed since the day I was born, and I have three life alternating moments to represent the most important events I've been through. At the age of eight, life was a bright star. My younger sister, Aria, was born. During my mother's pregnancy I was a conceited, narcissistic little brat. The responsibility of being someone's older sibling is huge. The thoughts running through my mind at the time were all a bit depressing. I was thinking about how hard it'll be and how much work will be needed to be done. But in the moment I held her, all the negativity disappeared and I held life in my hands. I couldn't believe all the opposing thoughts I had about an innocent child. The feeling was purely ecstatic. In that moment I started to think more about life. In its most astonishing moments life is more a gift than a drag. Its more of a bright star rather than a something pulling you down. I had a little sister, and looking at that now I realize I could never have hoped for a better one. At times she seems to live to annoy me to death, while other times she tends to mess my room up when shes mad at me. I'm okay with that, after all we were born to be real, not perfect. At the age of twelve, when my aunt died, my life was like an alarm clock. My aunt and I were fairly close. We used to walk around together often and talk about almost anything. At times I may have prefered her over my mother. She got me into my obsession of sports. She was there when I scored my first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Descriptive Moment Determination On the first day of summer in 2010, I encountered a life changing event. It was a cool damp evening after the last day of school, and we were having a barbeque at my neighbors house. My best friends Tony and Sarah lived there and we had plans to stay the first night of summer in their aunts tiny old pop–up camper. We all were sitting on their patio on the cold and clammy tile, laughing, telling stories, and eating. My neighbor, Tom, had grilled hot dogs, and Mary and my Mother had made baked beans, cut a watermelon, and set out chips. The air smelled of grill smoke and wet grass. I was wearing my light blue pajamas, and vibrant blue and fuzzy slipper boots. It was a beautiful evening which celebrated the first day of summer. Both our families were playing kickball in my neighbors huge back yard, and all I wanted to do was beat Tony. I was up to kick and I kicked the ball past the outfielders. I sprinted to first base, and when I saw the ball had not been retrieved yet I rounded first base and started toward second. All of the sudden I saw Tony running at me with the ball out of the corner of my eye. I had watched my sister play softball before so I knew that when it was a close call the runner always slid, and using that logic I decided to go for it. I think it was a combination between the slippers and the wet grass from the rain earlier that day, but I do know that the next thing I saw was not pretty. Illuminated only by the moonlight that leaked through the drapes stood my father. The smoke from his long cigarette swirled around him like a snake coiling around its prey. There he stood ominously in a spotless black trench coat that seemed perfectly tailored to him.He took another long drag of his cigarette, with a head tilted back he blew an opaque cloud blocking the view of his face. Sitting there within sight of him I felt sick, or perhaps it was the scent of his cigarette, but regardless, he had always been one to bask in the discomfort of others so despite my obvious discomfiture he stood unwavering, in utter silence.
